Dass in den späten 60ern und frühen 70ern des vergangenen Jahrhunderts sich in der deutschen Popmusik extrem viel bewegte und viel Neues entstand, pfeifen die Spatzen mittlerweile vom Dach. Zahllose Bücher sind bereits zum Thema 'Krautrock" erschienen, und viele LPs aus dem genannten Zeitraum sind wiederveröffentlicht worden. Günter Schickert hat in den 70ern nur zwei LPs veröffentlicht: "Überfällig" (Sky Records, 1979 / Bureau B, 2012) und "Samtvogel" (Brain, 1976). Exakt 50 Jahre nach Erscheinen der LP kommt der "Samtvogel" nun zurückgeflogen. Günter Schickert benutzte für "Samtvogel" ausschließlich Gitarren, Echogeräte und eine bescheidene Aufnahmetechnik. Das Album ist eine waschechte DIY-Produktion - in jeder Hinsicht radikal und dem damaligen Zeitgeist überhaupt nicht verpflichtet Diese Radikalität war es vielleicht, die es schwierig machte, ein geeignetes Plattenlabel für eine Veröffentlichung zu interessieren. Jedenfalls brachte Schickert "Samtvogel" 1974 zunächst einmal in einer Auflage von 500 Stück selbst heraus. Erst zwei Jahre später erschien das Album in einer weitaus höheren Auflage auf Brain. "Samtvogel" ist ein besonders wichtiges Album, weil es deutlich macht, was musikalisch in den 70ern alles möglich war Kein Zweifel: Das Album ist extrem, obwohl es musikalisch und spieltechnisch von hoher Qualität ist. Aber es entspricht eben keinem der damaligen krautigen Trends; und das ist wohl auch der Grund, weshalb es im kommerziellen Sinn nie erfolgreich war. Günter Schickert war mit seinen beiden, damals zu Unrecht unterbewerteten Alben "Samtvogel" und "Überfällig" im Gesamtkonzert der experimentellen deutschen Popmusik der 70er Jahre eine bemerkenswerte Ausnahmeerscheinung. Municipal Dreams plays out as a semi-autobiographical tour through the Blackbird Leys estate that the Activist grew up on. It’s a lived reflection on inequality and the ripple effect it has in working class communities, using the sonic palette to set the mood and scattering pointed samples throughout to spell out the story.

In sampling the exhaust of a stolen Subaru Impreza, ‘TWOC’ looks back to the recreational car theft which was standard entertainment for the kids in his community. There’s an underlying idea that this ‘council estate sport’ wouldn’t have been so prevalent if there were public services and opportunities presented to the scores of disaffected youth looking for somewhere to direct their energy and frustration.

In ‘Just A Number (Institutionalised)’ LEA alludes to the shattered juvenile detention system, growing up seeing friends and family members locked up at ease with little to no support on being released back into society, just meant that the same cycles of behaviour would play out over and over.

‘Violence’ samples from a short film shot by the drama division of the Blackbird Leys Youth Club to evoke the physical threat which formed a background hum to life on the estate. The industrial mechanics of the local car factory, which served an integral role as a workplace for many in the community, gets sampled in ‘They Only Come Out At Night’ while the ‘Everyone I look up to are either junkies or criminals’ sample in ‘Broke’ looks to a lack of positive role models.

Municipal Dreams isn’t a one-note indictment of life on the estate, ‘Innocence’ captures the simplicity of a child at birth before their environment has time to shape them. The Hope interludes cut through the grim honesty of the longer tracks while a subtle thread of wry humour finds its way into some of the talking heads cutting through the signature LEA murk.

But honesty is the operative word here, and the message feels all the more meaningful at a time when the UK’s social divisions are laid bare in the wake of a devastating stretch of austerity. Returning to Blackbird Leys to shoot images for the photo-zine and album cover, the Activist found the local community centre being demolished. The local pub stands derelict, its faded Welcome sign a grimly ironic portent of the options facing children of the estate in the wider world.

Funnelling his memories, hopes and fears into a singular twist on the bass weight tradition, LEA captures evocative scenes that land somewhere between kitchen sink realism and rave futurism.

Rolling out an album under normal circumstances is a huge, and all consuming job. Then figuring out how to compassionately, respectfully, and successfully roll out an album during a world wide catastrophe, and especially an album about spells, and incantations for joy, was a real head scratcher! Getting to work on this live recording during that period allowed us to focus on a way we could be most helpful in a world of sorrow, and forced us to be creative. We were desperate to be of service. We realized astral projection - and concepts around leaving the 3D experience was an exciting idea. If we could connect people on the astral plane, we wouldn’t have to feel so alone! So we decided to start the session with an introduction on how to astral project! Gotho is an experimental instrumental duo formed in 2020.

Their debut track, "Gatta De Blanc," was a 25-minute composition, showcasing their signature mix of synthesizers, electric piano, and drums, with no backing tracks or overdubs. Blending elements of progressive rock, metal, jazz, disco, psychedelia, post-rock, and classical, their sound defies categorization.

After gaining acclaim for their live performances, they released their first album, *MindBowling*, in October 2022 through Controcanti Produzioni and Black Widow Records, receiving strong reviews.

In November 2024, Gotho will release *Gothron Versus Fartark* with Supernatural Cat. Set in a sci-fi world, the album tells the story of two robotic enemies battling for their world's survival, using synthesizers, electric piano, vocoder, trumpet, and drums to narrate Gothron’s victory over Fartark. Like their previous work, the album spans multiple genres, resisting any single classification.

Exquisitely compiled by Discrepant head honcho Gonçalo F. Cardoso from three tapes released earlier this year by the tireless mind-body of Spencer Clark through his own Pacific City Sound Visions, 'This Year In Coconuts Vol. 2' is another revelation into the deeply personal soundworld of this true voyager of both ancient, present and forthcoming times. Coming from a truly singular artist, capable of conveying multiple visions into a labyrinthine-esque mythology all of his own, these seven tracks feel as much part of their original setting as connected pieces from this never ending and puzzling netherworld.

Dedicated to the Temple of Isis in Pompei and opening sides A and B, the two tracks from 'Tempio d'Iside' set up a scenario not far from a dream version of the Temple itself, made from crystal clear synth-lines and levitating ambiences, like drifting into ancient memories from days to come. Making up about half of the compilation, the four tracks from 'Kowloon Spider Temple' drip into a feverish mosaic of Clark's by now trademarked cascading rhythms, unhinged alien-vocal samples, phantasmic textures and sparkling synth harmonies projecting a catchy hypnotic oblivion filled with intrigue. The sole title track from 'From the Caves and Jungles of Apulia' tangentially reports back to some lower-fi recordings of the past, with its murkier sound inducing the feeling of willing confinement within such caves and jungles. A brilliant Year in Coconuts, indeed.

Founded in 1961 by George Kooymans and Rinus Gerritsen, Dutch rock band Golden Earring (or Golden Earrings, until 1969) started off as a beat band, experimented as a psychedelic quartet and finally became a heavy rock group in the early 70s. Their ninth album ‘Moontan’ (1973) hit the international album charts and is the band's most successful album in the United States, while the single ‘Radar Love’ reached #10 on the Cash Box Top 100 and #13 in Billboard in the United States and became a bonafide international classic rock song. Their current line-up has been constant since 1970. They have had over 40 hits and released about 30 albums, many achieving either gold or platinum status in their home country, The Netherlands.

In 1984 the band released the album N.E.W.S. (North, East, West, South). It features the song ‘When The Lady Smiles’ which became an international hit in 1984, reaching #3 in Canada and becoming the band's fifth #1 hit in The Netherlands.

Music On Vinyl celebrates the 40th anniversary of this landmark album with fully restored and remastered audio from the original master tapes.

Ringo Starr achieved international fame as the drummer for THE BEATLES. ShitKid's self-titled debut EP immediately cut through the haze on its release in 2016, pushing the home-recording lo-fi pop artist into the spotlight with praise from the likes of The FADER, Pigeons & Planes, i-D, SPIN, The Line of Best Fit and many more. Home-recorded lo-fi recordings ranging from the alternative pop of debut single "Oh Please Be A Cocky Cool Kid" to the White Stripes-y garage rock of "Rnr Sally" to the just plain weird, the ShitKid EP is an essential release from ShitKid - now available on vinyl again, on limited edition galaxy vinyl.

How wild did things get in 1967? So wild that a label (Audio Fidelity) not particularly known for its hipness put out a record with an insert to send away for “psychedelic ornaments” so you, too, could throw an acid party! And the back cover offered “instructions” referencing everybody from Emmett Grogan of the Diggers to Albert Hofmann, the discoverer of LSD. But perhaps the most amazing thing about this album was that, despite its almost comical (though well- informed) attempt to cash in on the psychedelic craze, How to Blow Your Mind and Have a Freak-Out Party wound up being a charming and even entrancing psych-pop gem of a record, albeit one with its requisite share of Eastern-influenced mumbo-jumbo. For its first-ever American vinyl reissue, we’re pressing up just 500 copies in “orange sunshine” vinyl, complete with the insert (you can try sending it in, but don’t get your hopes up). Groovy, man!

"The Affectionate Punch is the debut studio album by the Scottish post-punk and new wave band the Associates. The album was released on 1 August 1980. From the album ""The Affectionate Punch"" and ""A"" were released as singles. Upon its release, The Affectionate Punch was declared ""a kind of masterpiece"" by Paul Morley of the NME, who described it as ""a passionate cabaret soul music, a fulfilment of the European white dance music Bowie was flirting with back then."" None other than Robert Smith (the Cure) can be heard doing backing vocals on ""The Affectionate Punch"" and ""Even Dogs in the Wild"". Nigel Glockler (Saxon) is the drummer on this album. The Affectionate Punch is available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on turquoise coloured vinyl and includes an insert."

Recorded at the same Feb. 12, 1964 New York concert that yielded the more balladic album My Funny Valentine, Four & More
showcases the Miles Davis quintet at their blistering best. The great trumpeter and bandleader (1926-1991), and his stellar group, which was less than a year old at the time of this recording, mostly essayed tempos that ranged from Indianapolis 500 to Bonneville Salt Flats.

Offering a well-balanced, albeit reconfigured, repertoire featuring the familiar hard-bop strains of “Four” and “Walkin’,” newer, original free bop compositions like “Joshua” and “Seven Steps To Heaven,” and the standard “There Is No Greater Love,” which the ensemble
performed relatively infrequently and is the only tune herein not taken at a supersonic pace, the quintet electrified a sold out Philharmonic Hall.

Spurred on consistently by the mercurial rhythm section of pianist Herbie Hancock (23 years old at the time), bassist Ron Carter (then 26), and especially by the cross rhythms of 18-year old genius drummer Tony Williams, Davis’ work, particularly in the upper register, was seldom more commanding. As for his front line partner, tenor saxophonist George Coleman, Davis would write in his autobiography that he “played better that night than I ever heard him play.”

Jonas Munk closes his ambient trilogy with mammoth drone pieces, multi-layered guitars and hymnal krautrock. "Mirror Phase" concludes a trilogy of minimal ambient albums in Munk's (Causa Sui) own name. These eight compositions, based on guitar and synthesizer loops, marks a return to the warmer sounds Munk is often associated with. Sonic structures that slowly and gradually evolves and changes, like cloud formations in the sky. The title track, "Mirror Phase", is Munk's most expansive drone opus so far. It's a carefully arranged piece where sounds that oscillates with the same interval, but at different phases, are continuously added, hence creating shifting patterns throughout the track's nearly 18 minute duration. Elsewhere, in "Transition", multi-layered guitars creates the sonic equivalent of waves gently splashing on the shore. "At a Distance" creates a haunting, and hypnotic, soundscape by using slightly out-of-tune analog synthesizers, summoning the transcendent krautrock of Popol Vuh. And "Rise", as well as the closing track, "Return to Nowhere", recalls the glistening sounds of his Manual releases. "Mirror Phase" might just be Munk's ambient oeuvre reaching its zenith. The CD edition comes with an extra CD with Jonas Munk's 2021 album, "Altered Light", which has previously only been released on digital download and streaming.

This soundtrack LP features songs that were all included in the 1986
coming-of-age film "Stand By Me", which was directed by Rob
Reiner. The film is based on Stephen King's novella The Body, with
the title deriving from the song of the same name by Ben E. King.
The film is set in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Oregon, in 1959,
and stars Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, and Jerry
O'Connell, as four boys who go on a hike to find the dead body of a
missing boy. The movie's success sparked a renewed interest in
Ben E. King's song "Stand by Me", with the song re-entering the US
Billboard Top 10 chart in 1986. The soundtrack is crammed with
great, early rock & roll hits. The movie may have been nostalgic, but
the music on this soundtrack still sounds alive, decades after it was
originally recorded.

The songs that grace this comprehensive double vinyl package all come from the golden age of country music. For nearly a century now, country music has been captured on cylinder, vinyl, tape and compact disc. In America during the 1950s, while rock & roll battled calypso as the nation’s favourite sound, meanwhile in the background, these classic country songs could be heard across the land - all the way from the Gulf of Mexico, right up to the frozen wastes of Minnesota. Die Schachtel Records is proud to present Ifigenia/Oreste, a new vinyl LP by celebrated Italian composer Paolo Spaccamonti. This album marks the seventh installment in the label's renowned Decay Music series, which has become synonymous with deeply emotive, abstract, and electronic/ambient music, which has so fare featured works of such names as Stefano Pilia, Giovanni di Domenico, Sandro Mussida, Vértice, Damavand and Claudio Rocchetti. Aim of the series is composing a fascinating scenario of the most interesting names of experimental musicians – mainly of Italian origins - working at the intersection of sound and music, abstract and visual, storytelling and abstract composition.

Paolo Spaccamonti has long been a significant figure in the contemporary music scene, known for his ability to bridge the worlds of instrumental, electronic, and experimental music. His most recent release, Nel Torbido (2023), is a testament to his ever-evolving artistry. With Nel Torbido, Spaccamonti delivered a haunting and immersive sonic experience that oscillates between tension and release, bringing together moody soundscapes, unsettling textures, and his signature understated guitar work. His exploration of silence, noise, and melodic tension has earned him recognition as one of the most unique voices in modern composition.

Composed by Spaccamonti, Ifigenia/Oreste is the original score for the theatrical production IFIGENIA / ORESTE, directed by Valerio Binasco and produced by Teatro Stabile di Torino. The music, both haunting and subtle, mirrors the play's minimalist and intense staging, immersing listeners in an evocative soundscape that blends ambient textures with guitar-driven melodies. The music was recorded and processed by Filippo Conti, with additional production and mixing by Stefano Pilia. The vinyl’s design has been crafted by Bruno Stucchi of Dinamomilano, making this release a fusion of sound, visual, staging and cultural reference.

In reflecting on his collaboration with director Valerio Binasco, Spaccamonti said: "From the first meeting with Valerio, it was clear that we aimed to create a production stripped of any unnecessary stylistic embellishments. Ifigenia and Oreste had to be severe, devoid of visual distractions, simple yet extreme in its own way. I sought to follow the same path with the music. The foundation is always the guitar, but I wanted to avoid overloading it, either harmonically or sonically. Sometimes, I treated it like a fragmented background noise; other times, I ventured into more aggressive, melancholic, or even melodic terrains, but always in a very human way. The text demanded an atmosphere that lived in the alternation of silence and rarefaction, like in the films of Bresson and Lanthimos. Short scenes interrupted by moments of darkness. In a marked rhythm, a suspense constantly suggesting the advance toward death, announced from the very first scene.
