Platipus 30 Years – Volume 7 is finally set to drop, continuing the acclaimed anniversary vinyl series that celebrates the legacy of one of the UK’s most iconic electronic music labels. This latest edition brings together a collection of timeless and highly sought-after tracks from the legendary Platipus catalogue, including Union Jack’s unforgettable “Red Herring” (Original Mix), Art of Trance’s hypnotic “Kaleidoscope” (Oliver Lieb Remix), Simon Berry’s powerful “Maelström” (Torsten Fassbender Remix), and Moogwai’s classic “5 Wishes” (Original Mix). A must-have for collectors and fans alike, Volume 7 delivers a perfect blend of history and timeless trance energy.

The begena is a large ten-stringed lyre which is part of the traditional Amharic heritage of Ethiopia. The Amharas, who have long formed the politically and culturally dominant people of Ethiopia, mainly inhabit the central and northern part of the country. In the majority, they follow the monophysite Orthodox Tewahido Church established in the early fourth century AD.

Music plays a very important part in the life of the church. Most of the liturgy is sung and, contrary to secular music, it is accompanied by percussion instruments only. The begena occupies a special place because it is the one melodic instrument exclusively dedicated to the spiritual repertory. Because of its mythical origin, it is highly respected. Tradition holds that the begena was given to king David by God, and brought to Ethiopia by Menelik I, together with the Ark of the Covenant. It has always been the instrument of kings and nobles. Played by pious men and women of letters, it never became widespread. But it never disappeared either, not even under the Derg regime (1974-1991) which had banned the instrument.

Among Amhara string instruments, the begena is the most carefully crafted, especially with regard to the ornately sculpted crossbar. Its ten gut strings are cleaned and twisted several times. The characteristic buzzing timbre equalled by no other Amhara instrument is due to the enzirotch, that is, small bits of leather placed between each string and the bridge. This plays an important part in the sound production by creating a brief contact between the string and the upper rim of the bridge, thus modifying the vibrating properties of the string. In this manner, the spectrum of the sound is considerably enhanced (up to over 10 kHz).

The begena is a very powerful instrument, it keeps the devil thirty steps away, and its presence in the home wards off malicious spirits. Priests and preachers recommend its presence, especially during Lent (Fassika Tsom) when the Orthodox Amharas ponder their sins and repent. Because of its spiritual import, the begena generates intense emotion. According to some musicians, playing the begena brings them into direct contact with God or the Virgin Mary. The religious role of the begena is underscored by the shape of the instrument, each part symbolises an important element of the faith. The crossbar for instance, which reaches across the entire width of the instrument, represents God who is above all things. The belly which "gives birth" to the sound represents the Virgin Mary, and the ten strings recall the Ten Commandments.

Since the 1940s, Library Music has lurked in the shadows, peripherally touching our lives through TV and film. Among the stalwarts of the industry was UK's Studio G, with cues heard on Doctor Who, and sampled by the likes of The Chemical Brothers, and Tyler, the Creator. Jazz Dispensary's Dream a Dream with Studio G: Cratedigger's Archive (1970–2009) culls some of their most sought-after cuts, with liner note commentary from Saint Etienne’s Bob Stanley, and illustrations by Ivan Minsloff.

The latest boy band in town, POP VAMPIRES COLOGNE, opens the party with the enigmatic ‘Karianne’. SUPERPITCHER knows how to make a grand appearance, accompanied by high-calibre guests. His electro-pop treat ‘Pandora’s Box’ features Hot Chip’s ALEXIS TAYLOR​ on vocals.​ JÜRGEN PAAPE isn’t coming alone either, but with newcomer HELLA in tow. ‘Grace (A Tale)‘ once again shows our resident hit maker at his best. JÖRG BURGER also has a table companion, the extremely talented Irene Kalisvaart, and remixes himself on top of that. REINHARD VOIGT points out that money never sleeps and proceeds according to the motto: ’​Zahl an einem anderen Tag (Pay another day​)’. Our Brazilian whirlwind GUI BORATTO returns after a long absence with the banger ‘Panorama X-Press’. After careful consideration, ROBAG WRUHME has named his new track ‘Total’ and sings in the chorus with his family for the first time. Nu Groove spotlights the artists that made the legendary NYC label a firm favourite of crate diggers then and now with this special vinyl release of their vital tracks revisited by leading selectors of today. The label, born in 1988 by Frank and Karen Mendez as an outlet for the experimental works of the Burrell Brothers, quickly became a home for up-and-coming genre pioneers. Nu Groove Edits, Vol. 7 opens with the NiCe7 Edit of ‘Feel It’ by NYC favourites The Sound Vandals. More monikers of Rheji Burrell appear in the collection too, as the seminal ‘APT. 2B’ by N.Y. House’n Authority is reworked by Steve Bug, followed by Darius Syrossian’s edit of ‘C’Mon’ by Rheji’s Avant Garde moniker. Make A Dance’s edit of the Rhano Burrell classic ‘I’ve Fallen And I Can’t Get Up’, under his You Know Who! alias, closes out this vinyl collection of future record box staples.

Solid Snake Series is the new VA line showcasing the next generation of cutting-edge electronic music, combining dancefloor functionality with multifarious layered sonic exploration. It debuts the collaboration of label boss Phase Fatale with Falling Ethics owner P.E.A.R.L., as well as fellow KHIDI resident Yanamaste, with a rare outing. Label mainstay Unhuman brings his sound directly into the techno realm alongside Nørbak and the first track together by Ne/Re/A and Clarisa Kimskii from New York City.

For our double-O-seven release we went deep into the forest and dug up some real nice gems. On the A-side we find Simon Hinter a very talented and prolific producer from Germany who keeps on delivering refined masterpieces. And Ale Castro with some South-American salsa and heat, a classic House banger ready to bring some spice to the dancefloor.

On the B-side yours truly, Rawdio, appears with a smoother deep house vibe and to finish the VA we invited Moodtrax from the UK because we are big fans of his classic House touch. A varied but delicious platter of pure House Cookin' music!

Mélange is a new community and online platform for young emerging artists based between Europe and Australasia.

The first of the label’s VA compilation album, just released,spans corners of electronic and world music and weavesbetween classical/ambient sounds and UKG, Jungle & Disco. It’s a commitment to multi-genre discographies and the need for more established career paths for young, gifted artists.

With early support on the vinyl from Four Tet and Haai, our goal is to help share and further establish European and Oceanic sounds with music lovers everywhere.

DMA debuts its new series with a vision to showcase the music that shaped their path while fostering a sense of community around the label. More Rice and Jugaar Records – Two Bangkok-affiliated labels – bring together an assemblage of their mutual friends for a heady, floor-focused VA with moods to soundtrack peak flow, after-hours rabbit holes, and just about everything in between.

Rudoh of Jugaar Records fame kicks us off with ‘Madoh’, a bendy groove that initially bares flex of early 2000s Minimal with its trimmed, rubbery percussion and obscured vocal snippets. As the track progresses, a hefty break and a catchy synth line bolster things before breakdowns unfold like little trippy slumbers rudely interrupted by bold, punchy drops.

Next up is Tokyo legend Gonno who follows up with ‘Rad’, a broad-shouldered banger propelled by a heaving kick and clap combo. A wrought synth is paired with odd shocks of acid and a sequence that flickers like a strobe. All the while a thick, gnarled bass line rumbles underneath, keeping vibes at boiling point throughout.

More Rice’s DOTT follows up with a swampy excursion propelled by a potent kick and nimble submarine tones. Drums are neatly stacked in polyrhythms as an infectious swing unfolds, one that’s decorated with ghostly synths and a generous dose of psychedelic synthesis.

Sarayu – also of More Rice fame, closes things up with ‘Fuijan Groove’, a brilliantly lean cut that lets the subs do the talking. On this first one, 13130 offers: Steve Redhead, Not A Headliner, RUIZ OSC1, William Arist and label head Elyas.

This transcontinental techno VA gathers five forward-thinking artists from across the globe.

Icelandic techno forward Exos opens the release with "Tunis" - a no-compromise, fast-paced track that pulses with distant echoes of African tunes. This piece that moves you forward, propels through time and textures.

Hailing from Paraguay, Victoria Mussi brings "Imaginary Rush", a track that shifts the grid: behind the steady four-to-the-floor pulse hides a maze of unexpected sound accents. This is techno that demands both dancing and deep listening.

Latvian producer Ksenia Kamikaza follows with "34 hours of C" - a cinematic narrative shaped by futuristic sound design. Taking you to the sci-fi movie scene with echoing synths - it's a sonic adventure drifting across an obscure dancefloor.

Chilean artist Andrea Riffo offers "Fissure State", a fragile yet deeply intentional track that blends minimal structure with immersive depth. Thoughtful and hypnotic, it carries a subtle intensity that fits perfectly into both opening and prime time sets.

Catalan non-binary artist Basso Mata closes the record with "Open Close" - a departure from strict techno into mid-90s-influenced electro. Combining distorted guitar-like basslines with synthetic groove, it's both unexpected and irresistibly danceable.

Together, these five pieces form a cohesive yet diverse vision of modern techno - experimental, emotional, and deeply rooted in each artist's local context. This record is built for DJs who play with narrative, contrast, and surprise. A secret weapon for those who mix stories, not just beats.

For its fifth vinyl release and first-ever VA, Aurore 404 steps slightlyoff its beaten path, leaning into more club-centric contours.Six tracks trace a shared pulse across borders — from France to the UK toGeorgia — weaving together stripped-back rhythms, textured grooves, and aneclectic spirit.

The idea of the project is to reconstruct a different perspective of Tribal Italia, an imprint set in 1995 in Riccione.

The label recollected the attitude of the Afro/Cosmic djs of the region like Meo, Fary, Fattori and Brahms that created a distinctive "world-sound trademark" in whole Italy and Europe (as seen lately in the Austrian experiments of Stefan Egger).

There was a side of the label that was clearly influenced by the "heavy-sample" culture of Hip-Hop and, especially, by what was going on in the UK where groups like Transglobal Underground and Loop Guru were creating a new identitarian imagination.

These influences gave birth to a suggestive selection of the best breaks of the Tribal Italia catalogue

The EP opens with Bajo Tierra – Mis Juguetes, a ten-minute drift of slow-burning minimalism where Villalobos’ elastic modular textures and patient rhythmic detail entwine with Miranda’s hypnotic vocal, processed and stretched into new shapes and forms — a continuation of the deep, organic dialogues the pair first explored on De Cada Uno in 2022. On the flip, Siddhartha – Poema 4 slides into minimal electro and broken beat territory, sparse yet restless. Razor-sharp drums and pulsing bass unfold through dynamic structures that thrives on tension and space where a menacing voice cuts through with insistence. Closing the record, Wata – El Soul de Los Que Sobran (feat. Jorge González) brings González’s unmistakable voice into Wata’s playful framework, a looser, rather light-hearted cut where percussion and gentle melodies expand the palette and connect the EP back to Chile’s rich electronic lineage.

10 years ago in 2015, The Golden Lion in Todmorden opened its doors under the guidance of Gig & Waka, Cloudwater brewed their first ever beers, the dance floors of Manchester got introduced to the world of Supernature Disco and from his spare room at home in Bolton Chris Massey started Sprechen.

What followed over the next decade has been a wild ride of amazing people, memorable (though fuzzy!) parties, creativity, art, expression, performance and at the centre of it all of course, the music.
Sprechen has never been one style or sound. A reflection of varied musical tastes without any limitations of style or genres, just a passion to share good music.
Over the last decade, Sprechen has been lucky enough to both work with and meet many like-minded cosmic creatives that share this mindset and that have all played a major role in the story.
