Space Is The Place channels the weightless gravity of dub techno at its purest — all echo chambers and endless delay, a direct line to the Berlin school of Basic Channel, Maurizio, and Deepchord. B2. Beyond Current Biological Constraints closes the chapter in deep space — an electro masterwork evoking Drexciya, full of aquatic melancholy and cybernetic funk. It’s not retro — it’s timeless. With this last installment, the puzzle is complete. The meaning is revealed: R.A.V.E. — four records forming one powerful word. One timeless idea. A tribute to everything this culture stands for: raw energy, emotional truth, sonic innovation, and spiritual depth. It’s been exactly a year since the 6th Borough boys emerged from their hiatus to bring us the Rhythm & Truth EP. This killer three tracker picked up where they left off and showed us that fans of deep, dusty, dubbed-out disco were as hungry as ever for new 6BP material and went on to garner praise from the likes of Jamie 3:26, Luke Solomun, Dam Swindle, Young Pulse and the Faith crew to name a few. Here on their follow up we’re treated to more of the good stuff and sees Craig Smith and Graeme ‘Revenge’ Clark whipping up four new cuts spanning speaker- wobbling sub-aquatic grooves and stripped back deep house.

One Way sets the tone with a subtle yet infectious percussive workout which is one of those mood setting tools which looks set to become a lot of DJ’s secret weapons this summer. Filtering strings and tweaked synths add that classic Chicago energy which won’t fail to get you locked into it’s groove. Spare Change treads a similar path but goes heavier on the echoing synth stabs and deep string pads proving that when the rhythm is rolling this nicely just let it roll.

Flip over for Backlash which takes us deeper still with lush chords and driving square wave bassline taking centre stage supported by an unrelent ing kick drum which helps to keep an intensity throughout the arrangement. Closing out the EP we have The Other, which sees 6BP dropping the BPM’s to create a low-slung slice of deep, underground house perfection.

»Shell I« is the second edition on Edições CN by Brussels sound artist Florence Cats. It is a magical collection of 23 edits for voice, field recordings, theremin, and piano. Cats’ recorded piano rehearsals and singing sketches reminds us of Cornelius Cardew works. They are at the heart of Edições CN, where a sketch or rehearsal holds as much, if not more, truth than a definitive composition.

A melody line from Debussy passes by. Waves crash in the distance. Sails and flagpoles are sounding by the winds. Florence singing a stream of consciousness poem next to a water stream. Track by track you dream deeper in this generous collection. While the album’s A Side is an aquatic storyboard, the B Side is the essence of storms and days spent in the forest.

Cats holds a singular position at the firmament of Belgian sound explorers. Her art, almost unspectacular, is an important voice in these algorithmic times.

Florence Cats (Be, 1985) is an experimental artist working somewhere between music, sound, visual art and acupuncture. In 2023, she was selected as an emerging sound artist by Stuk, Q-O2 and Musica. Her work is a needle or antenna, inspired by the vibrations of sound and light in nature, travel, telepathy and dreams. She plays the theremin in experimental ways, interacting with her body, voice, water, radio and various.

This summer, Samuel van Dijk (also known as Mohlao and VC-118A) takes up his Multicast Dynamics alias for his fifth album on Denovali. Once again this storytelling artist sets out to remove you from reality and sink you deep into his Lost World. You arrive long after humans have left, but why? That is for you to find out. Multicast Dynamics albums are always absorbing and journeying affairs that are as immersive as a film or evocative as an audio book. Since 2015, long players like Aquatic System, Outer Envelopes and Continental Ruins have explored forgotten utopias and unexplored oceanic abysses with a documentary maker’s attention to detail and narrative, and Lost World continues in this fine tradition. This is a mysterious album that wants you to engage not only with the music, but with what it means. Where it takes you. What happened before it started and what will happen long after it ends. How did you get here? Where will you go? Listening to it is like tuning into a world that already exists, somewhere, like some distant sci-fi reality turned underwater ruin that has a million stories to tell if only you can find them. It’s an isolated world that is somehow alive with microbial life, crumbling architecture and radioactive energy that leaves you with a thousand questions as you descend ever deeper in search of some form of truth. Track titles are subtle signposts along the way, while the music is like sonic poetry: expressive and beautiful, yet open to wide interpretation and always rather mysterious. It is music that fits perfectly with our visual world in the way the artist places sounds in specific places in the sonic field. You are the central character as the action moves, pans and unfolds around you in a 360 degree spatial field rather than on a linear plane. Lost World, then, is a voyage to a distant reality that awaits your own endless exploration.
