I can't actually remember why we decided to do this project other than ask ourself, why had it not been done years ago? let's do it! Linkwood and Other Lands are well known from their various outings on Firecracker, Night Theatre, The Nuclear Family, Rush Hour, Dekmantel, AOTN and many other labels, both talented musicians and fierce producers. The plan was simple, drop them into the mostly finished Athens of the North studio and cross the streams….

The results are nothing short of spectacular but putting them into words or genres on paper is somewhat of a challenge. Folding modular textures, post-punk, Electro, House and Techno even ending in some lush Balearic business, they have moulded their years of experience and translated it into something new.

What strikes me when listening to the LP is both their voices have come through in this production. Other Lands guitar work and Vocal and Linkwood deep sense of Rhythm and structure. The recording of this LP was just pre-covid which seems strange as it fits now so well. Like a dream of what it would be like to be out In the city night in all its different factions.

The planet is a wasteland ruled by self-contained, country-sized megacities, each with their own culture and climate, separated by vast, barely-inhabitable spaces. Long reliant on cyberspace as their means of communication, humanity relies on cybernetics to survive in their new environment. Advanced AI competes or conspires with these enhanced beings for control of resources and economy. Within these many-layered Sprawls, ordered chaos reigns, inhabited by many, understood by factions, and controlled by the very few…

* These recordings stretch back to the tail end of the late 1980's, with the original line up of Dub The Earth, who were one of a few dub reggae-inspired groups sprouting up in the west of England in those times, such as Military Surplus (who morphed into Radical Dance Faction), Rhythmites and Revolutionary Dub Warriors who all had a strong presence in the free festival scene in the UK at that time.* Featuring the late Steve Swann (Revolutionary Dub Warriors, On-U Sound) on vccals and mixed & produced by Rej Forte from Jah Works.
* The 10" features a vocal, dub and a violin cut.
* The vocal and violin cut have only previously appeared on the cassette only various artists release `One Foundation' from 1990.

Here we are with Cryovac's 21st offering: a thumping, machine funk EP that is sure to snap your set into overdrive. This four tracker throws back to the minimal feels, yet is still futuristic, mildly quirky (in the best ways) and slamming at the same time. The tracks all have that bounce, glitch and experimentation that you come to expect from label founder Andy Garcia and friends. The mighty Casey is up to bat once again for Love Notes from Brooklyn. This time, though, it's a more complete three track artist EP on offer. The music, of course, encapsulates everything that's great about Casey's sound: the lush pads, the crispy percussion, the emotional strings, and the dance-floor destroying basslines. Alternative Faction utilizes one such dancefloor destroying bassline to create a real fist pumping moment in the title track; That Time of Year uses a wriggly acid synth line over the aforementioned emotional strings, and to great effect; and New Mission ends the EP in a unwavering fashion; with heartstring-tugging, terk jerking, emotional pads over an acid line in signature Casey Tucker fashion. Oktave Records returns for the third installment from the label, once again featuring owner and proprietor Jeff Derringer at the helm. The 'Factions' EP shows Jeff at his most direct and robust, with three tracks of meticulously constructed techno.

'Factions' starts the EP and goes straight for the heart of the dance floor, with a tunneling groove that lures the listener into hypnosis before a devastating break takes the track to a whole new level of intensity. This one is for the ravers, no doubt.

The flip side starts with 'Penalty Phase', another floor-focused stunner that features Jeff's signature kick drum and drive, coupled with evolving synth arpeggios and melancholy vibes for those early club mornings as the sun comes up. Finally, 'The Second Plane' slows the tempo down a bit and ends the record with a thoughtful broken beat arrangement reminiscent of early Warp.

'Factions' was written during the winter of 2018 and mastered by Tim Xavier at Manmade Mastering.

As we move forward, Corseque Records introduces a concept which we simply call Faction. A series of joint releases between artists from different corners of our beloved scene and label head Ascorbite. For the third vinyl we are pleased to have with us Berlin based producer Mike Wall (Wall Music/Wall Music Limited).

An intriguing project by singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist G.T. Moore, he of G.T Moore and the Reggae Guitars (first album 1974) fame, he of the folk group Heron who recorded their first album in a field by the Thames in 1970, he who recorded on Lee Perry's final album at the Black Ark studio 1980, also was a part time member of Radical Dance Faction and who's done session work with the likes of Johnny Nash, Joan Baez, Poly Styrene and more.
*Fast forward to now: G.T. collaborates with the Lost Ark Band creating some beautiful shimmering, dreamy, deep phaser-laden sounds giving more than a nod the aforementioned Perry's studio from way back then.
*Features two compositions - `Be True' and `One Two Three' - the latter originally recorded with Heron - with respective dub versions playing at 33 and weighing in at 25 minutes.
