Minecraft is a tool, a means of bringing the imagination to life. Minecraft is a community, a platform on which inventive minds of all ages can share their creations and ideas. Minecraft, of course, is also a game, the most popular and best-selling video game of all time. Created in 2009 by Swedish programmer Markus "Notch" Persson, this cultural phenomenon speaks volumes of our current zeitgeist's love for virtual spaces, but its unprecedented success couldn't be pinned on one factor alone. Countless layers of thoughtful artistry flow through Minecraft's singular experience, not the least of which is its transportive soundtrack by C418, the project of German composer and musician Daniel Rosenfeld. Minecraft Volume Alpha, the first installment of a two-part OST, helped breathe life into the game's voxel-based universe. Upon release, fans and critics were universally enamored with C418's beatless, nuanced electronic pieces. Popular gaming site Kotaku named it among The Best Game Music of 2011, calling the music "remarkably soothing." The Guardian compared Rosenfeld's delicate piano and sparse ambient motifs to legendary artists Erik Satie and Brian Eno. Polygon distilled Volume Alpha to its essence: "It's not bound by the retro aesthetic of Minecraft's graphics. It transcends them. Félicité Thösz is the eleventh studio album by French band Magma, and was originally released on the 3th of July 2012.

The album was Magma’s first studio release in 27 years to contain new material written after the band’s reformation in 1996.

“Félicité Thösz” was written during 2001-02 by Christian Vander, but only played live by the band from 2009. “Les hommes sont venus”

was written and performed in 1992 by Les Voix De Magma, and again in 1995 for the band’s 25th anniversary, then called “Tous Ensemble”.

Félicité Thösz is sung almost entirely in Magma’s constructed language Kobaïan, apart from a passage in

French named “Seule une fleur est venue au fond des bois en mon cœur (âme)”.

Félicité Thösz is now available as a remastered LP in a 3mm sleeve and contains an insert.

The record is cut at 45rpm for the ultimate audio experience.

Trotzdem ist der schweißtreibende Indie Funk-Rock besonders der ersten paar Tracks auf 'California Salzburg' keineswegs doppelbödig, sie sind ernsthaft bei der Sache, nehmen sich dabei aber selbst mit ihrer unberechenbaren Mischung aus Indie Rock, Funk, Dada Pop und was immer ihnen im Proberaum gerade in den Sinn gekommen ist nicht zu ernst. Wie es sich für kalifornische Verhältnisse gehört gibt's dann noch ein paar Skateboard-Referenzen, bis man schließlich mit Skating to the ocean (Exit) dem Pazifik oder auch nur dem Fuschlsee entgegenbrettert.

That’s how Activity’s Travis Johnson described their third album, A Thousand Years In Another Way. A friend had asked why these songs seemed to capture the strange, heavy feeling of being alive right now better than anything else—and that was his answer. The album doesn’t try to explain this time we’re living in; it simply feels like it. It’s a mix of violence, alienation, and tenderness—reflecting the surreal, dreamlike (or nightmarish) rhythm of daily life.
Across ten songs, Activity blends experimental rock, electronics, and found sounds with a sense of paranoia, flickers of hope, and a warped reality. Working with producer Jeff Berner (of Psychic TV), the band manipulated sounds and played with room acoustics to create a feeling that’s disorienting—like the air is thick and the walls are listening.
Coming out of a period of uncertainty, the Brooklyn-based quartet—Travis Johnson, Jess Rees, Bri DiGioia, and Steven Levine—pieced the album together from fragments: clipped samples, looping guitar lines, ghostly melodies. Rees, DiGioia, and Johnson share vocal and writing duties, shaping a record that feels both deeply personal and strangely alien. There’s a constant sense that things could shift or fall apart at any second—nothing stays one thing for long.
A Thousand Years In Another Way might not offer answers, but it captures the feeling of right now better than most. And maybe, it sounds a bit like your world too.

»Mother Nature« is the debut solo album by Berend Intelmann, a key figure in the German indie music scene since the late 1980s. Having made his name as a member of groups such as Hallelujah Ding Dong Happy Happy, Guther, and Paula, Intelmann most recently focussed on his work as a producer for artists such as Jens Friebe, MissinCat, or Fotos. »Mother Nature« sees the multi-instrumentalist and singer navigate between pop sentiment and his penchant for classical music on these eight pieces, three of which feature additional contributions by Karaoke Kalk label mate Marla Hansen, synth pop iconoclast Der Assistent, and the versatile Mieke Miami, respectively. »Mother Nature« combines a sense of playfulness with cunning compositional rigour to stunning effect.

Intelmann took full creative licence and worked with the instruments that he feels most comfortable using: the drums, synthesizers, and his voice. While inspired by his life-long passion for pop music in all shades, he also took some cues from his more recent passion for classical music. »The synthesizer melodies are arranged like string quartets, while the songs are presented as musical themes strung together so that they form a coherent story,« he explains. The resulting sound isn’t quite as »krauty« as someone called it, instead the artist prefers to call it »slow-kraut—1980s synth sound with 1970s George Duke-style beats,« though of course he never attempted to fit in one specific genre or replicate a certain sound: This is simply the essence of Berend Intelmann as a composer and storyteller.

The lyrical matter of »Mother Nature« is inspired by life and death. This informs an album that masterfully creates contrasts and utilises the friction generated between them to tell its stories. The album opener and second single »All Gone« greets its audience with the couplet »In the long run / We’re all gone,« but sets this to soothing sounds that form a joyful counterpoint to the fatalism of the words. Also the slowly-unfolding first single »Life Of Another One« sets the stage for a reflection on memories that have become so distant that they feel like belonging to another person altogether with sombre, intertwined melodies. However, these darker tones slowly give way to laid-back grooves, Intelmann’s smooth vocalisations and whirling synthesizer sequences.

The collaborations—a vocal duet with Marla Hansen on »A Focused Mind,« Der Assistent’s subtle theremin contributions to »The Less We Cared« and Mieke Miami flute and saxophone playing on »Mother Nature«—further enrich this album that the artist claims has been »co-produced by friends and family.« Indeed, »Mother Nature« might be Intelmann’s solo debut proper, but he remains a teamplayer at heart.

'Cumbias Imaquinarias' is an EP that flows full circle with one of El Búho’s earliest inspirations for making electronic music; digital Cumbia. It was a scene that exploded out of Buenos Aires around 2008 and went global. The scene soon saturated and fell out of fashion, but gave birth to artists like Chancha Via Circuito, Frikstailers, El Remolon and was a big inspiration for him as a young producer.

For El Búho there was always something there; the entrancing magic of the Cumbia rhythm reimagined for the electronic dancefloor. Cumbia is a music that is globally connected but also so diverse, evolving and growing into many subshoots of this one simple rhythm. This EP presents three Cumbia’s and one Porro rhythm (a derivation of the Cumbia rhythm from the Colombian Caribbean which evolved into its own style).

Joining El Búho on remix duties for this release are ARN4L2, Lagartijeando, Auntie Flo, La Jungla, Earthly Measures x Dreems, La Forasteria and Sun Sone. Each artist offering a completely unique approach and their own magic touch to this El Búho masterpiece.

Pawel Pruski is an electronic music producer and composer, known for blending organic elements, subtle synthetic layers, and field recordings to create immersive ambient and experimental soundscapes. In his sound creation process, he experiments with various modular systems and logical-mathematical concepts, such as the implementation of probability theory. His work spans concerts, gallery exhibitions, film soundtracks, and producer albums. He has presented his music in various parts of the world, including China, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and more. Additionally, Pruski creates unique sound installations based on the creative processing of various stimuli using sensors and detectors, forming interactive installations where the audience often becomes an integral part of the experience.

Die norwegische Musikerin, Künstlerin und Autorin Jenny Hval kündigt mit Veröffentlichung der Single "To Be A Rose" ihr neues Album "Iris Silver Mist" und europäische Livedates an. Benannt ist das Album nach einem Duft des Parfümeurs Maurice Roucel, über das man sagt, es rieche mehr noch als nach Silber nach Stahl, sei kalt und stechend, zugleich aber sanft und schimmernd - so als trete man früh an einem nebligen morgen aus dem Haus, der Körper noch warm vom Schlaf. Ein Parfüm mit seinen Herznoten und Akkorden teilt sich die Sprache mit der Musik. Beide reisen durch die Luft, unverkennbar und doch unsichtbar. Die Geschichte von "Iris Silver Mist" beginnt aber nicht mit Musik, sondern mit ihrer Abwesenheit. Als die Pandemie dazu führte, dass es keine Orte mehr für Livemusik gab, wurden die Gerüche von Zigaretten und Seife, der des warmen Schweißes unterm Bühnenlicht und der geteilten WCs ersetzt: durch körperloses, algorithmisches Hören zuhause. Für Hval führte das zu einem plötzlichen, seit Teenager-Zeiten eingeschlafenen Interesse an Parfum. Riechen, lesen, sammeln, schreiben - sie tauchte ab in die Welt der Düfte, während sie ihre Musik vorerst auf Eis legte. Es brauchte ein Jahr, um zu verstehen, was passiert war: Hval war auf der Suche nach einem anderen Weg, physische Nähe zu empfinden. Die Leerstelle, die die Musik hinterlassen hatte, hatte sie mit Düften gefüllt. "Iris Silver Mist" ist vielleicht auch deshalb so sinnlich, greifbar und intim - berührend wie Gerüche, Klänge und Bilder, wenn sie zusammen wirken. In einer Reihe von Performances, die Hval im letzten Jahr unter dem Titel "I want to be a machine" auf die Bühne brachte, spielte sie erstmals Songs vom kommenden Album. The Forced Down mission statement reads: “As the social values in our society become more set in stone, the individual is forgotten. When what the individual stands for goes against the ideas of the masses, and is considered a threat to order, be it right or wrong—they are forced down— disciplined to maintain "the order" Some conform, some resist, some fall, and they are forgotten”…. 2024’s listening party, Tim is back with a further 24 eclectic cuts. This 2LP collection is pressed on blue translucent
vinyl, bringing together 24 further highlights from the 1,278 Listening Parties that took place.
The parties themselves were an eclectic mix of genres and eras, and the compilation reflects that with track from Paul
McCartney, The Magic Numbers, Ibibio Sound Machine, Róisín Murphy, Iron Maiden, Laurie Anderson and Norah
Jones.
“I’d done Charlatans listening parties and some solo album listening parties, and as the Twitter followers grew, I’d
repeat it and do it again and again. It was maybe about a week before being told that we were going to go into a
lockdown before we actually did something. I saw all the TV stuff, all the kind of crazy things that were happening and
thought if there’s going to be a lockdown, there’s going to be something that I can do.”

This re-issue of World Machine, Level 42's 1985 breakthrough album, is presented with scrupulous attention to the detail of the original UK first pressings and available in audiophile 180g pink vinyl in celebration of the album's 40th anniversary.

By 1985, Level 42 – bassist and vocalist Mark King, keyboard player/vocalist Mike Lindup, guitarist Boon Gould, drummer/lyricist Phil Gould and studio-only keyboard player Wally Badarou – were on the verge of breaking big - After a string of well-received albums, such as their pioneering jazz-funk 1981 debut or the Ken-Scott produced True Colours, the group decided, rather than work up material through jamming, to sit and write some songs for their forthcoming album.

Producing themselves, with assistance from engineer Julian Mendelsohn, this new approach meant that World Machine was the quantum commercial leap they craved. And most of that was due to the album's towering lead single, the pop-funk of "Something About You". With its expensive video seeing the group styled for the 80s, it set radio alight, becoming a Top 10 hit and charting around the world, importantly in the US. Following up with the tender ballad "Leaving Me Now" and then the bouncy funk of the album's title track as singles, the album's success was guaranteed; it reached No 3 in the UK charts and spent an amazing 72 weeks on the listings.

To speak to Luca Daniel Schwarz aka LDS about his music is to be enthusiastically guided into a complex world of his own creation: clean and powerful techno which pulses with life from the textured patterns and drum sequences that have fills and accents that would make anyone who’s picked up a set of drumsticks envious. Yet this ecosystem of noise is deceptive; Schwarz’s process for making music is very different to how a live drummer would create the same subtlety of performance. Forever researching new technology, Luca got deeply interested in different programming languages, and created a series of probability-based music tools for manoeuvring sounds and sequencing.
Manipulating those probabilities takes a skilful alchemy, needing understanding of both musical structure and how the tools he devised work. To return to the drummer analogy, if the drummer is focussed and intentional in the moment of playing, then the method used in LDS tracks is almost diametrically opposed, with all of the intention coming in the assembly of the instruments, potential paths, and gateways; once play is pressed the music flows, following all the rules that were set in advance, not unlike a domino run or Rube Goldberg machine. And like a domino run, the results are fascinating and, ultimately, fun: staccato vocals pop in and out in ‘zipp prompt’; laser-like synths pulse; background noises sweep across the aural plane of the dub techno of ‘diff, blockmix’ and ‘pow’ adding texture that brings vitality all-too-easily missed out when complex mathematical
processes become entwined with music creation. The high sensitivity to texture and rhythmic detail in Stadion Progg is multiplied further on Jean Redondo's remix - whose track, Hypersonic, was the backbone of 2023’s ‘yet’ compilation on Tresor.
The balance between technology and a sense of fun might also come from the maker; it’s not easy to overstate Schwarz’s passion for what is now his favourite way to make music, “it never gets boring. There’s always a moment of anticipation to see what actually emerges.” And the true “power of 2” comes into play when the resulting music can be fed back through the system again and again, potentiating the music in exponential ways.

Born of a chance encounter, Alberto Novello and Rob Mazurek's improvised collaboration, Sun Eaters, was recorded in a single afternoon at Dobialab, an experimental artist run space in Northern Italy. Alberto provided a loose rythmic and timbral bedrock over which Rob Mazurek sketched and weaved delicate harmonies with trumpets, adding atmosphere with bells and sampler.

Kaum hatte Stella Chronopoulou mit dem Schreiben von Adagio, ihrem fünften Album als Σtella, begonnen, wusste sie, dass die Zeit endlich gekommen war, um in ihrer Muttersprache Griechisch zu singen. Es wäre eine Premiere. Sie begann mit dem Album fast zufällig im Jahr 2019, während einer 11-stündigen Bootsfahrt zur Insel Anafi. Σtella hatte kürzlich eine persönliche Krise durchgemacht und brauchte eine Pause von zu Hause. Auf der Fähre zückte sie ihr Handy, während das Boot durch das Mittelmeer glitt, und begann mit einer einfachen Melodie, aus der sie nach und nach ein grobes Instrumentalstück zusammensetzte.

Obwohl der Großteil des Albums auf Englisch gesungen ist, wie alle ihre Alben, wartet Σtella auch mit ihren ersten beiden Songs auf Griechisch auf: „Omorfo Mou“ und eine Coverversion eines griechischen Kultklassikers von 1969, „Ta Vimata“ von Litsa Sakellariou. Es ist ein Zeichen des Selbstbewusstseins, das diese zarten und verliebten kleinen Stücke ausstrahlen. Von Anfang bis Ende klingt Σtella auf Adagio entspannter und wohler als je zuvor. Almost as soon as Σtella Chronopoulou began writing Adagio, her fifth album as Σtella, she knew the time had finally come to sing in Greek, her native tongue. It would be a first. She started the record almost by accident in 2019, during an 11-hour boat ride to the island of Anafi. Σtella had recently gone through a patch of personal turmoil and needed a break from home. On the ferry, she pulled out her cell phone as the boat clipped through the Mediterranean and began with a simple melody, steadily piecing together a rough instrumental. As psychedelic keyboards twinkled and swayed above staccato drums, the track suggested some deep exhalation, as if Σtella were letting go of long-unnecessary baggage. For a spell, she set the instrumental aside. She wasn’t ready yet, or in a rush. Σtella, after all, grew up in a slow place. During her youth in a relatively rural suburb of Athens, Greece, she and her friends played unfettered in empty streets, not worried about cars or permission, and living felt easy. But in the last decade life has steadily become busier for Σtella, now based in the heart of Athens. She has become one of modern Greece’s most popular musical exports, with three sophisticated, playful pop albums rendered with international élan. After her Sub Pop debut, Up and Away, in 2022, she catapulted beyond three million monthly Spotify listeners. That success was a blessing, but Σtella sometimes found herself pining for the slower pace of her youth. That longing is the thread that loosely binds together her fifth album, the entrancing Adagio. Borrowing its name from the term for music that’s meant to be played slowly, Adagio is a pop record that feels like a very warm blanket, its nylon-string guitars and featherlight percussion swaddling its listeners for three minutes at a time. Written and recorded over the span of five years, with a consortium of international collaborators including !!!’s Rafael Cohen and British songwriter Gabriel Stebbing, Adagio is a 27-minute meditation on love and desire, rest and time. urgent and vital at every turn.
‘Swimming’ is a confluence of rabble-rousing stadium rock, sleazy
garage rock and Sonic Youth experimentation. Lyrically, there’s a lot
to hang on to too, which is unsurprising given how topical the band
are: ‘Drones’ took on imposter syndrome; ‘Manifesto’ tackled
homophobia.
‘Swimming’ scorns on the increasing lack of opportunity after
following prescribed paths to become society’s idea of a ‘success’.
Sprints singer Karla Chubb explains: “While the homeless crisis
worsens, the city is sinking in debt and everyone can barely keep
their heads above water, you see an article stating that a new €25
million white water rafting centre is being developed after approval
by Dublin City Council. Sometimes you’d just rather drown.”
Sprints have hit a nerve. The velocity of this argument comes from
personal anguish but will chime with a generation. And with such
honesty running through their core it’s no wonder The Guardian,
NME and BBC Radio 1 and 6Music have tipped them for big things.

Long and intermittent running duo of Discrepant head honcho Gonçalo F Cardoso and Angela Valid's Alex Jones, with sometime collaborator Phil Laney aka Kenny Hosepipe joining in somewhere along the way, Hair & Treasure crossover from Sucata Tapes to Discrepant wax via 'Disc Rot'. Described by the duo, in their cryptic and scatological fashion, as "a fetid spread from the buttery catacombs of Hair & Treasure", one can only speculate on the mindset, if not for the scenario, for these file swap recording sessions. As if decaying throughout this back & forth process, the synthscapes, field recordings, voices from who knows where? and subliminal pulses assembled in these 11 pieces all coalesce into this out-there murk where invocations of "a" real are mangled into unhinged, squinting eyes moments of near- consciousness.

Compared to previous Hair & Treasure ventures like 'Two Fucking Tapes' or 'Forked Piss Blues', 'Disc Rot' forgoes side-long tapestries by focusing on shorter and clearer transmissions from the netherworld. Still, the feeling of pieces of discarded hardware and sound hubris lying around and turned music of the duo remains unscathed, filtered through a newfound precision. After the opening feverish threat of 'Warm Night', the suspended synth pads and working machinery of 'Byzantine Turd Skirt' actually comes as a relief, pulling away (a bit) of the dread to resurface with the Texas Chainsaw Massacre OST ambience of 'Amateur Depravity' and 2004-ish Midwest noise stylings of 'Busy Hubby's Flight to Gstaad' and 'Tit Ale'. 'Roads Gonad Today' and 'Just Jerkers' are not that far removed from a lower fidelity take on Black Dice circa 'Creature Comforts', while -'Professional Babies' goes back a couple of years to their collabs with Wolf Eyes, bust mostly, all of this sounds like nothing but Hair & Treasure themselves. "Hydroplane reinstate their formidable 1997 debut of sublime guitar atmospherics, fragile lyricism and droning incidentals with an overdue vinyl and digital reissue.

An offshoot of the now-féted The Cat’s Miaow, the trio formed after drummer Cameron Smith decamped to London, charting new territory with tape loops, manipulated samples and a borrowed Jupiter 4 in the wake of Endtroducing. Adopting a handle that Dean Wareham once considered calling Luna, Hydroplane intended to only ever release Excerpts From Forthcoming LP, a single-sided 7” sonic collage, before imploding in mystery. Their label however insisted they deliver their taunted album. From the comfort of a Brunswick flat, they continued to record soaring melodies and restrained song structures to 4-track, sculpting dramatic Radiophonic Workshop cues weighted in reverb and near-perfect dream pop lead by Kerrie Bolton’s empyrean vocals.

Bored of industry expectation and largely ignored by local audiences, the reluctant performers followed the way of The Cannanes and formed meaningful overseas alliances by mail and phone, securing releases on Michigan outpost Drive-In and Broadcast launching pad Wurlitzer Jukebox. Championed by John Peel with twenty spins on his converted Radio One slot and even polling in Festive Fifty of 1997, the humble three-piece still walked to their neighbourhood shops undetected.

Inaugurating the New Year as he means to go on, German record producer and live act Monolink returns with his brand new single, Mesmerized.
