Nala Sinephro veröffentlicht ihren ersten Original-Soundtrack für Benny Safdies Film "The Smashing Machine", der vor dem offiziellen Kinostart am 3. Oktober bei den 82. Internationalen Filmfestspielen von Venedig (mit 15-minütigen Standing Ovations!) Premiere feierte. Der Film erzählt die Geschichte des legendären Mixed-Martial-Arts- und UFC-Kämpfers Mark Kerr. Die Hauptrollen spielen Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson und die Oscar-nominierte Emily Blunt. Die Filmmusik wurde von Nala Sinephro komponiert, produziert, arrangiert, gemischt und gemastert. Mit dabei sind auch ihre langjährigen Weggefährten James Mollison, Nubya Garcia, Lyle Barton, Dwayne "Wonky Logic" Kilvington, Morgan Simpson, Natcyet Wakili, Mark Mollison und Sheila Maurice-Grey. Außerdem wirkt das Londoner Orchester Orchestrate mit, das bereits 2024 die Streicher für Sinephros hochgelobtes Album "Endlessness" lieferte.

Obwohl Sinephros Musik – meditativ, ätherisch und gewaltig – für eine Wrestlergeschichte paradox erscheinen mag, fand Marks Geschichte bei Sinephro Anklang, der die verborgenen Sanftheiten und Emotionen der Geschichte aufgriff. ‘Call To Arms & Angels’ is the title of the twelfth studio album from South London collective Archive.

 Deluxe editions of the album also include a bonus ‘Super8’ album of new and exclusive instrumentals, as featured in the band’s ‘Super8’ documentary that will accompany the release of the album.

 Produced by Archive and long-time collaborator Jérome Devoise, ‘Call To Arms & Angels’ is the band’s first studio set since 2016’s ‘The False Foundation’.

 Talking about the new album, Darius Keeler says, “Writing our twelfth studio album was an extraordinary time for the band. The song writing became an unfolding narrative as the world got stranger and more disturbing every day. With people’s freedoms being pushed to the brink, the suffering Covid caused and the terrible events in the US lead by Trump and the rise of the Right, anything seemed possible.

 “To reflect on these times as artists brought up a darkness and an anger, but also a strange kind of inspiration that was at times unsettling. It really made us appreciate the power of music and how lucky we are to be able to express our feelings in this way.

 “It seems there is light at the end of the tunnel, but there are always shadows within that light.”

Long Ryder guitarist/mandolinist Sid Griffin states 'High Noon Hymns' is “two thirds the distilled altcountry genre we helped found back in the 1980s, one third Paisley Underground adventurism yet with a dash of our own crazed soulfulness thrown in." Due to the unexpected passing of Long Ryders' bassist Tom Stevens, bass duties on the new album were shared by Murry Hammond of Americana stalwarts The Old 97s and The Long Ryders’ own Stephen McCarthy. McCarthy also performs live with The Jayhawks and occasionally records with the Dream Syndicate. Guests appearing in the album include DJ Bonebrake of X on vibes and young bluegrass wunderkind Wyatt Ellis on mandolin. The album was recorded at Kozy Tone Studios in sunny Poway, California.

REVNOIR is one of the most exciting new forces to emerge in the rock and metal world. A strange, unpredictable, sardonic and yet deeply personal record inspired by all from Fever Ray to The Flaming Lips, Liars, Mercury Rev and Beck, Island Family is Pictish Trail's contrarian view of arcadia; a search for the euphoric in the bucolic, bound up in sometimes conflicting ideas and feelings around nature and environment, sincerity and artifice, escapism and belonging. It's an album about how no man can remain an island, however hard he might try. Released by Fire Records, with support from Johnny's own label Lost Map, and produced by long-term collaborator Rob Jones (The Voluntary Butler Scheme, The Gene Dudley Group), 'Island Family' opens with its title track, a song of death, ghosts and the ties that bind, fusing abrasive electronic beats with a tongue-in-cheek fireside folk refrain and the haunted ice cream van melody of a digitally reincarnated traditional Scottish jig. It's followed by the epic 'It Came Back', the understated verses and arms-aloft falsetto chorus of which are accompanied by a tense, foreboding bass-driven electro hip hop instrumental with (spoiler) a brain-shattering industrial-metal meltdown. 'Melody Something' is the album's purest moment, a cautiously uplifting solar-powered-ballad about losing track of time in the cycle of the seasons, and the gap between memory and reality. With »News from Planet Zombie«, The Notwist return to view after years of exploration and experiment with an album rich in both melancholy and positivity, sketched across a suite of thrilling, fiercely committed pop songs. It’s an album reflecting a chaotic world, but responding with warmth and generosity, to achieve creative and spiritual consolidation. Recorded in their home base of Munich, it reconnects with the security of the local to explore the troubles of the global: a guiding impulse writ large across this album’s eleven songs. It’s also the first studio album since 1995’s »12« that the entire band recorded together in the studio in its expanded live formation.

A new album by The Notwist is always a curious endeavour; their musical language is as consistent and resilient as the contexts for creativity are unpredictable and ever shifting. For »News from Planet Zombie«, the core trio of Markus and Micha Acher and Cico Beck embraced the plural possibilities of writing together, bringing songs to the collective and then arranging, rehearsing and recording that material live, in the studio.

The result is an album that’s energised, fully in ›the now‹, with spectacular moments where you can hear the magic bubbling up in the dynamic between the Achers, Beck, and fellow members Theresa Loibl, Max Punktezahl, Karl Ivar Refseth, and Andi Haberl. If »Teeth« begins »News from Planet Zombie« quietly and reflectively, by »X-Ray« everyone’s supercharged, blasting out future anthems with the collective energy cranked up high. The chiming keys of »Propeller« skim the instrumental’s surface like stones across burbling water; »The Turning« clangs its way into one of the album’s most heartwarming melodies.

»News from Planet Zombie« was recorded over one week at Import Export, a non-profit space for arts and music. You can tell, too; there are some pleasingly rough edges here, as though The Notwist’s striving for hazy perfection means they’re also confident enough to let the songs breathe and mutate between our ears. That openness to chance also takes in guest turns from friends both local and international, reflective of a cosmopolitan Munich: Enid Valu joins in on vocals, while Haruka Yoshizawa guests on taishōgoto and harmonium, Tianping Christoph Xiao on clarinet, and Mathias Götz on trombone.

The Notwist aren’t best known for cover versions, but »News from Planet Zombie« features two: a gorgeous version of Neil Young’s »Red Sun« (from 2000’s »Silver & Gold«), which the group originally developed for a theatre play directed by Jette Steckel, and a take on Athens, Georgia folk-pop gang Lovers’ »How the Story Ends«. They slot into the album’s narrative perfectly, nestling in like old friends, revealing The Notwist as poetic interpreters. Played well, the cover version is both acknowledgement of fellow travellers and act of generosity, and The Notwist nail both aspects here.

And that narrative, the way the album plays out? »News from Planet Zombie« acknowledges the distress of our current geopolitical impasse, while reminding us there are collective ways forward. Fed through the figure of the zombie, Markus Acher explores our anxieties: »In the title and some lyrics I reference B- and horror-movies, which is a reference to the crazy world at the moment, which seems to be like a really bad and unrealistic B-movie.« But there’s a reminder here not to lose the thread entirely, that these things, too, will pass.

»The river here in Munich I often go to has been there forever and will be there long after us,« Acher reflects, pinpointing an important source of succour for him, »always the same but always changing. Very calming, but also always reminding me that like this river time only flows into one direction and you can’t go back. Every moment is very precious.«

Spectral Bounce’s latest offering comes direct from Norway, courtesy of Anders Hajem — co-founder of Boring Crew Records. To date, the Oslo producer’s previous releases have been vessels for the exploration of myriad dance musics, seeing the artist fluently turn his hand to soulful house, dub techno and 2-step.

SPEC07 — the Myr EP — is a much more focused affair, finding Hajem in techno mode across 4 potent cuts typified by undulating drums and swelling echoes. Despite its emphasis on percussion, atmosphere has not been sacrificed for rhythm: vivid FX and meticulous attention to detail bring these tracks to life beyond the context of the dancefloor. This is music that can be stepped into and explored, productions that reward repeat listens.

Opening at full throttle, “Myr” is a jackin’ percussive workout, harnessing punchy drums for maximum effect. Its pulsating low-end runs in tandem with trembling synths that perpetually reflect and refract in the stereo field. Atop its rolling drums, hardgroove-inflected “Sprett” utilizes timestretched vocals, cavernous reverb and ecstatically quivering tones, elevating this 2000s-era framework to new heights. “Existence” brings things to a deeper and more hypnotic place: delays are turned up, siren calls reverberate and timbres ebb and flow. Hajem goes more chasmic still on “Concussion”, hitting the brakes for a much slower cadence and allowing space for a truly expansive listening experience. Heady and mystical, entrancing and otherworldly — listen close enough; beneath the dizzyingly shifting pulses and rattling drums you’ll hear incantations, while bass tones pulse in the depths.

Belgian producer Gratts finally drops six in-demand reinterpretations from his Be Strong Be Free imprint to vinyl while showing off the label's collaborative, open-hearted spirit. Alex Kassian sets the tone with a lush, chugging instrumental of 'Sun Circles', followed by Terry Farley & Wade Teo's classic 90s Sound Factory-style overhaul of 'Off My Feet.' 'Submerge Me' dives into raw, hypnotic percussion before the flip delivers Fennec's rolling, floor-ready re-chug of 'Better Days'. Conrad McDonnell of Idjut Boys fame adds heavyweight dub depth to 'Jour De Fete', while Southpaw closes the EP by flipping 'Euphori' into tender, emotive trip-hop.

Constellation Tatsu welcomes US artist Brendan Principato aka Saapato for what is a hugely conceptual new album based around decomposition. It was sparked when Saapato saw a dead fox lying by the side of the road on his way home from a job in a local warehouse. He used that as a jumping-off point to interrogate "transformation, interconnectedness, and renewal" and the five stages of decomposition, namely fresh, bloat, active decay, advanced decay and dry/remains. Several collaborators help him on his way as he sketches out various instrumental textures which variously have occasional shards of light, lingering melancholy and a subtle sense of hope.

The king of cheeky edits of timeless disco and funk is back with a wicked trip through obscure French grooves, flipped, filtered, and fired up for contemporary dancefloors. These three edits from Monsieur Van Pratt on Illegal Disco 008 don't just nod to the past, they grab it by the collar and drag it under the mirrorball. The opener 'Danse Danse' struts in a sunny groove built for open-air euphoria, 'Pas Chez Toi' slides deeper, a go-go-soaked funk jam with razor-sharp percussion then 'Ombre De Plaisir' detonates with horns blaring, rhythm pumping and pure disco adrenaline. Another gem from Mr Pratt.

Turma da Bênção – A Semba Gathering Across Generations

Conjunto Angola 70 & Paulo Flores

The Turma da Bênção project brings together Conjunto Angola 70, a collective dedicated to recreating and preserving the golden-era sound of Angolan music from the 1970s, and Paulo Flores, one of the most important ambassadors of semba worldwide and one of the creators of kizomba. Throughout his career, Flores has built bridges between tradition and modernity, helping shape the global understanding of contemporary Angolan music.

Recorded in Lisbon in 2018 in an intimate “roda de semba” setting, informal jam sessions rooted in collective rhythm and storytelling, Turma da Bênção gathers legendary musicians such as Botto Trindade (guitar), Joãozinho Morgado (congas) and Teddy N’Singui (guitar); mid-generation artists including Galiano Neto (percussion), Paulo Flores (vocals and artistic direction) and Pirika Duia (viola); and younger creators such as Mayo Bass (bass), Jéssica Pina (trumpet) and Armando Gobliss (keys).

The result is a powerful dialogue between eras. Classic Angolan repertoire meets new compositions, all deeply rooted in semba — the rhythmic and poetic foundation from which kizomba later emerged.

The album revisits emblematic songs such as Runfo da Liberdade, Memórias de Gui and Lamento de Duia, while introducing new works including Morgadinho, Catuta 45, Boas Festas Conterrâ and Réveillon, the latter awarded Semba of the Year at the Angola Music Awards in 2020.

Before this LP, Keep On Pushin Records released the singles Turma da Bênção presents: Joãozinho Morgado and Turma da Bênção presents: Botto Trindade, building anticipation for what now becomes the label’s first full-length vinyl release.

Issued on vinyl in the year Angola celebrates 50 years of Independence, Turma da Bênção stands as a symbolic statement, honoring the elders, empowering the present generation, and ensuring that the pulse of semba continues to resonate across borders.

Turma da Bênção is more than an album. It is a rare intergenerational encounter and a living celebration of Angola’s musical heritage.

In 1962, Black Music was making its transition from R&B to soul and the Chicago music industry was exploding, producing thousands of records and dozens of new labels. The two biggest black labels Vee-Jay and Chess led in the creation of the distinctive, smooth, Chicago soul brand with names familiar and not so familiar: the former with Curtis Mayfield and Jerry Butler and the latter with Mitty Collier, Etta James and Billy Stewart. Windy City label Identity Spectrum is back with a third volume in its The Way Of The Rave series, and again it offers authentic techno from across the US East coast, the Midwest and Mexico. ViiV opens with a dubby, low-key groove packed with suspense and muttered vocals on Dollar Shake. Sister Zo's 'Diamond Hands' then cuts a rugged groove with razor sharp percussion and jungle breaks just about contained in a moody techno framework, then Snad strips things back to an abstract minimal groove with loopy rhythms and broken glass before Titonton Duvante serves up his smooth signature tech house cruiser, 'Unrequited.'

Colombian-Argentinian label We Shine In The Darkness is back with a second serving, and this time they throw it back to 1996 to revisit a classic anthem. It's Julian Sanza and La French Toast who add their own 2025 spin to iconic trance cut 'Seven Days & One Week', maintaining its bleepy and bleary-eyed synth sequences but reworking them into a deep and breezy house groove. On the flip, 'Mad Vibes' is apparently an "homage to a local scene bar" and is an emo-licked post-disco chugger with moody lines and distant vocals tugging at the heart.

The “5” Royales were the most enduring and influential of all the 1950s proto-soul groups. In a very crowded market, their success was remarkable. The Royales were the first African American group to introduce gospel based vocal styles into the rhythm and blues format. This gave an intensity to their recordings and live performances that no other combo could get near, thanks to the passion and power that lead singer Johnny Tanner generated. Furthermore, the group possessed in Lowman Pauling a songwriter of genius and a guitarist, who invented an exciting style of playing that linked stinging solos with rhythmic accompaniment. The Golden Age of southern soul lasted from about 1962 to 1975, when disco ripped the heart out of it. And although it may seem as though the blend of country, gospel and R & B that emerged from the great studios in Memphis and Muscle Shoals in that decade was entirely fresh and new, like any other genre classic, southern soul picked up musical cues and absorbed influences from a whole variety of sources: horn lines from Louisiana's swamp pop, lyrical themes from the blues, songs from country music, and of course so, so much from the black churches. Part of the 'History of Soul' series, this LP reveals the musical antecedents that gave southern soul its inspiration. Collecting Orders For 2025 Repress

Ruff n’ ready torque collides with the nocturnal as Argentinian donny JUAAN enters the fray.

A properly intoxicating melange of boisterous, straight-for-the-jugular biz and late-night seduction. Four distinct, durable traxxx tailor-made for the witching hour. Icily moody with a bit of menace and dread about it. It’s also very slick, optimised and fine-tuned for maximum dancefloor impact.

Critics often highlight his ‘90s-indebted approach, and while those influences remain ever-present, this one has more in common with dancefloor styles prevalent a decade prior. Shades of darkwave, Detroit In Effect and the nascent years of Chi-Town house depending on the track, but never do we run the risk of falling into pastiche.

Pure forward momentum with a decidedly mean streak coursing throughout. Plenty of sci-fi flourish, funked-out where it counts. Flush with dystopian romance and a decent dose of weirdo flex.

Quintessentially Kalahari.

B. Chamber (Stratum A), by B. Close, is the first full length solo release by Los Angeles-based multi-disciplinary artist Brian Close. The first of two volumes assembled from some thirteen hours of music produced by Close while residing in Connecticut from 2021-2025, B. Chamber (Stratum A) offers a vivid, fractal afterimage of a prolific, specific time and space in the artist’s oeuvre.

After leaving New York City early in the pandemic to a farmhouse in the countryside with dedicated spaces for multiple sound stations, Close developed an intensive daily practice of melding with the machines. The vast, pastoral backdrop of rural CT provided inspiration and contrast for his ongoing investigations into dynamic, poly-rhythmic electronic music. The sounds on B. Chamber (Stratum A) range from the machine-modeling of acoustic instruments and natural environments to the utterly unhuman, spinning on the axis between crystalline, pointillist precision and shifty blown-cone distortion. Close’s atypical interpretations of rhythm, noise and other undefined musics land in a hybrid zone of their own.

Throughout B. Chamber (Stratum A), Close’s productions are in perpetual motion. Foxtrot’s shifting hi-hats and disembodied voices rise like cicadas propelled by glitching machines and tangled rhythms, Many Drive draws momentum from dubby stabs and twinkling atmospherics. Character Community’s nimble, drifting snares and erratic static are uplifted by swelling synths, and Mpan’s modular mining forgoes drums but is no less propulsive for it. Acre Voices’ seasick pads and deft drum patterns tap an energizing nerve, and closer 5D Bow’s ambush of pummeling machine gun fire spirals into the tryptamine palace and emerges completely rinsed and refreshed.

Equally powerful in the club as in the outdoors, in the headphones eyes closed or on the move, B. Chamber (Stratum A) grants an immersive temporary trip on B. Close’s unique wavelength, with Stratum B to complete the picture in the summer of 2026.

Brian Close (b. 1979, NYC) uses the cold logic of mathematics to trigger states of total sensory displacement. Close co-founded multiple AV studios to explore the "hypnotic"—a ritualistic practice of motional-graphism and improvisational sound. His work is a study in synesthesia and the architecture of trance, using geometric precision to dissolve the sense of time. It is a digital-visceral experience built on heavy logic, designed for large-scale immersion and timelessness.

Close is one half of Georgia who have released records on Palto Flats, Firecracker Recordings, Meakusma, Youth, OOH-Sounds and EM Records, and have a long-running residency on NTS.
