Sind das Klischees? Natürlich. Aber Punkrock & Oi! jeder Art basieren seit jeher auf Klischees. Genau wie jede andere Subkultur auch. Das ist also nichts Schlechtes. Im Gegenteil, es macht Spaß. Vor allem mit RIOT CITY RADIO, denn ihre Songs sind sofort eingängige Hymnen mit perfekt ausgewogenem Songwriting zwischen kraftvollen Refrains, großartigen Mitsing-Passagen und einer rohen, gewaltigen Note, die süchtig macht! Eine Ode an Subkultur, Underdogs und die Solidarität, in Distanzierung zu einem Großteil der kranken Gesellschaft und all ihren unnötigen Exzessen. Earlier in the year, Washington, D.C-based Sol Power Allstars launched the Sweet Breeze Sound imprint, seemingly as a vehicle for oddball re-edits and nostalgic, sample-rich productions. Handling side A on release number three in San Fran's King Most, who crafts a hybrid 80s electro/proto-house jam out of echoing electronics, bobdypopping beats, and all manner of effects-laden samples (including a wealth from InDeep classic 'Last Night a DJ Saved My Life' ). Over on side B, Sol Power's own Marc Meistro takes over, laying down his own sparse, lo-fi, analogue-rich tribute to electro-era synth disco that once again nods to a variety of cult classics from the early 1980s.

Made across 2024 between London and Amsterdam, WITH A VENGEANCE (or WAV for short) is the sound of uptempo catharsis, of SHERELLE making sense of a turbulent and difficult moment in time in her personal life. Determined to write one track a day, the studio became a safe space for SHERELLE to channel anger and feelings of betrayal, her hard and fast club tracks turning darkness into the cerebral joy of overcoming adversity. From those intense daily writing sessions has emerged a sharp, finely-crafted 10-track LP that is powered by fierce feminine energy and reflects the hard/soft and light/dark dualities of the dancefloor and life itself.

WITH A VENGEANCE is also a rally cry for the 160 scene, designed to push the tempo in new, exciting and as yet undiscovered directions. Inspired by SHERELLE’s foundational influences such as Kode9, Scratch DVA, Machinedrum, Lone and SBTRKT as well as the soundsystem-shaking groove of grime’s R&G sub genre, the album is designed to change perceptions of what 160 can be. But don’t get it twisted: this isn’t a concept album. WAV is for the dancefloor, delivering shades of London, New York, Detroit and Chicago in ways that are guaranteed to raise gun finger salutes.

Brooklyn's elusive Tom returns with the first release on Sweet Breeze Sound, a new label launched by Washington, DC's Marc Meistro of Sol Power All-Stars, aka Glenn Echo. He has already turned heads with a fine set of 12"s on Razor-N-Tape and Sol Power Sound, and here brings some dubby disco grooves and infectious samples. Side A leans into loved-up feels, looping an irresistible 80s r&b vocal over bouncing bass and layers of percussion. The B-side shifts to a more melancholic mood and is run through with a feeling of longing through a single repeated phrase supported by deep dub bass and driving disco rhythm. This is a great inaugural release from a label sure to become essential.

"Drop That Beat," the cult classic by Ixxel that became a staple in clubs and at festivals in the late '90s, is making its return. The iconic track receives a contemporary interpretation by Mosimann, plus a high-energy club remix from NightFunk. Together marking a rebirth that sounds both timeless and hyper-modern.

Mosimann, the French-Swiss DJ-producer, singer and showman, is a leading figure in the French electronic scene, known for his bold, modern and versatile sound. A six-time DJ Mag Top 100 DJ artist, he stands out with explosive live performances in which he not only mixes, but also sings, plays drums, and commands keyboards, a technical virtuosity that makes him a unique live phenomenon, comparable to showmasters like James Hype. His rework of "Drop That Beat" injects the track with that same hybrid energy and performance-driven power.

Mosimann: "This track is very important to me. Fred Rister was much more than an influence: he was the first to truly get me into music production when I was 20 years old. Before he left us, he handed me the stems of Drop That Beat and told me: 'If one day you feel like it, work on a version.' It took me years of reflection, doubts, and memories before I found the strength to do it. Today, with the blessing of the two original composers, I'm finally releasing this version. It's both a tribute to Fred, a nod to Jacky Core and the Captain where I played so many times, and a way to carry on the legacy of that '90s Belgian techno which, to me, still feels very present today."

Belgian house star NightFunk complements this perfectly with a tight, club-ready remix that pushes the track straight onto today's peak-time dancefloors.

With this dual reboot, the essence of "Drop That Beat" remains intact, while both artists inject the track with their own signature touch. The result is an energetic release that resonates with nostalgic fans and a new generation of ravers alike.

Belgian label Serious Beats Classics, renowned for reviving essential club tracks for new generations, proudly announces a new remix of the iconic dance anthem "Johnny Vicious feat. Originally launched in 1998 on Groovilicious and later immortalized in the club scene with DJ Wout's explosive remix, this timeless track is now reborn with a brand-new remix from DJ Licious.

The second release in the series on s-b-productions, Steve Bicknell's, Lost recordings # 4, 'In Order To Remember One Needs To Know', recorded in 1998 for the Lost dance-floor, the legendary event series in London, which ran from 1991 to 2014. Now available with reimagined label art and remastered by Peter Van Hoesen at Memento Mastering.

Subtil welcomes back French producer VENDi for its 29th release, Zndya EP - a three-track collaboration featuring BH2M and T.N.O.
Built on tight grooves, layered textures and spacious atmospheres, the EP blends minimal foundations with genre-fluid ideas and detailed sound design.

The title track Zndya, produced with T.N.O., opens with a fusion of stripped-back minimal and cosmic synth work, drawing influence from Nordic space disco. Arpeggiated leads and a steady, motorik groove stretch the track into wide, cinematic territory — functional and trippy in equal measure.
Session Height, co-produced with BH2M, shifts into peak-time mode with a rolling groove of syncopated basslines, cascading synth delays and chopped vocal fragments.

Berlin psy-con Yazzus presents a sexy sweatfest; a four track original EP featuring DJ Fuckoff of tech-trodden club stompers that will shake and break you. Operating in a lane of her own, she draws on her UK roots with bass laden bounce and never forgets to add that sapphic touch crucial to SBC. “Rebel Royale” is keeping techno freaky, cheeky and ahead of the curve.

Quintessentially out of control, elements of tension and release are toyed with throughout all the tracks, the building and driving addictive synth work in Venom & Vision; Serpent’s Rising sending even the most sane into a spiral. Basslines come thick and heavy, chunky by nature and particularly prevalent in Delicately Mad and My Lipgloss My Rules, they are the backbone of the record. Don’t get it twisted, this isn’t some run of the mill techno; the modular bleeps and freakouts, FX and vocals are wired and inspired; the glue showcasing Yazzus’s fully sick technical abilities. Last but not least, she entails the help of friend DJ Fuckoff; haunted slippery vocals are a match made in heaven for the percussive psy workout Erotica.

Red Vinyl. Jim Jarmusch's crypto-vampire love story film, "Only Lovers Left Alive" won the 2013 Cannes award for best soundtrack. The soundtrack, predominantly by Jozef Van Wissem and SQU"RL, also features Zola Jesus, Yasmin Hamdan and Madeline Follin (of Cults). "Only Lovers Left Alive" which is set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangier, features an underground musician (Adam, played by Tom Hiddleston), who is deeply depressed by the direction of human activities. He reunites with his resilient and enigmatic lover (Eve, played by Tilda Swinton). Their love story has already endured several centuries at least, but their debauched idyll is soon disrupted by her wild and uncontrollable younger sister (Ava, performed by Mia Wasikowska). Can these wise but fragile outsiders continue to survive as the modern world collapses around them?The physical formats of the soundtrack have been out of print for years and the vinyl will cost you a pretty penny on Discogs. More Water pairs the dancefloor stylings of Sub Basics and Witch Trials through the platform of Temple Of Sound. Vaneese & Carolyn are Vaneese Thomas (daughter of Rufus Thomas) and Carolyn Mitchell who recorded two singles together at Polydor in 1977 and 1978. From these, the 1978 collaboration has been reissued here, the sides reversed. Original copies have exchanged hands for over £300. Both singers had recorded with Disco producer John Davis and his Monster Orchestra the same year on his album “Ain’t That Enough For You”, but both these songs are more sophisticated classic soul stylings with incredible vocal performances.

Schrödinger’s Box welcome Catalonia’s Adrian Marth into the fold. The Iberian artist has been drawing crowds and turning heads with his analogue inspired productions and dancefloor inhibitions.

This five tracker sees the Italo Moderni founder explore the glittering angles and brooding shadows of his machines. Danny Wolfers takes the helm to close. Donning his familiar Legowelt moniker, the behemoth of all thing electronics delivers a saturated and spiralling rework of “Divine on the Late Show 88” to the close.

I’m fortunate to get a limited test pressing to share with you all to preview what the skateboarder, runner, sneaker-head & bedroom b-boy beat maker has in store.

For those that follow him, Strictlybutters frequently shares his lunchbreak/dollar bin finds that he has flipped & spun into juicy, head-nodding gold. With this release, no. 45 in the GSC45 series, we get that on wax live & direct.

Side A’s “Espresso Con Panna” flips the gospel, soul-funk gem “Love Light II” by Salt Of The Earth, from the 1984 LP “He Will Deliver”. SB delivers that thumping bass, hip-hop flip that keeps you going until he tops you off with a jazzy-sax outro to smooth things out just right. On the flipside, “Pain Au Chocolat” hits you in the gut with what feels almost like an alternate Detroit-style beat that ATCQ might have dug into & felt right at home with. & like the A-side, he gives us an “extra butter bonus beat” outro with a funky bass line you will hit the back button to replay more than a few times. & the subtle extra buttered sauce of unique samples with more Axelrod groovy flares & flourishes to tickle your fancy.L

Subtil Records welcomes newcomer Stoi to the imprint to release his second EP, "No Drugs". This understated (yet powerful) three-track EP embodies Stoi’s signature style — minimalistic arrangements, hypnotic grooves and immersive soundscapes — blurring the lines between dancefloor energy and reflective listening.

"No Drugs (featuring Pae)" (A1), the first track of the EP, clocks at a whooping 10:45 minutes and is a genuine exercise of trance-inducing music. Here, Stoi crafts minimal pulsing beats and intricate modular rhythms, on top of a morphing, massively visceral bass, constantly roaring through the entire track — purpusely making you feel like you are in some kind of altered state of mind. Hypnotone's iconic self titled mini album reissued!

Originally released by Creation Records in 1991, long out of print and now reissued, meticulously remastered and pressed onto pristine white vinyl.

Exclusive liner notes by band member Tony Martin "The Hypnotone Story: From Manchester to Creation" and including after hours favorite "Sub" and Balearic hit "Dream Beam" featuring vocals by Denise Johnson.

Formed in the vibrant milieu of Manchester's legendary Hacienda nightclub, Hypnotone emerged from the creative partnership of Tony Martin and Martin Mittler. Tony, initially involved as the in-house lighting designer, and Mittler, a bar staff member, fused their interests and talents amid the fervor of the late '80s Acid House movement that pulsated through the club. Their musical venture began earnestly after an introduction to Alan McGee, head of Creation Records. This connection would soon lead to a record deal, propelling Hypnotone into the heart of the emerging electronic dance music scene, releasing 2 albums, multiple singles and standout remixes for artists such as Primal Scream, Sheer Taft, and The Lilac Time.

With Creation Records' support, Hypnotone crafted their unique sound combining state-of-the-art digital samplers like the Akai S1000 with a collection of classic analog synths. Their debut self titled mini album includes after hours favorite "Sub" and Balearic hit "Dream Beam" featuring vocals by Denise Johnson. Hypnotone not only shaped their distinct sonic footprint but also influenced the broader trajectory of electronic music. Their journey, marked by innovation anda deep affinity for Manchester's music scene, exemplifies the transformative power of the era's cultural and technological shifts in music.
