San Francisco artist Ross Hogg has been grafting away on his grooves for many years. He has plenty of styles in his arsenal and here digs into some sun-baked reggae and lovers' rock. Up first, he reworks 'Rose Inna Di Dark', the title cut from the debut album by British soul singer Cleo Sol. Her angelic vocal rides a clean reggae rhythm with sleek melodies reflecting rays outwards. On the flip is 'Come Around & Kick It', a deep cut groove with an r&b vocal and classic reggae guitar riffs. It's a steamy combination that's designated to get plenty of backyard parties and beefy sound systems ablaze as we head into the warmer months.

It's not easy to rework a classic and get standout results, but that's what Ross Hogg does here on a fresh 45. It finds him behind the controls and delivering two tasteful reimaginings that pay homage to the original while adding fresh character. 'Cherish the Jamrock' opens with a playful twist before settling into a laid-back groove that is high on soul and packed with tasteful island vibes. On the flip, 'No Ordinary Dub' strips things down to being a more tender and vulnerable vibe against a deep, early digital dancehall bassline. It's a clever, respectful take on two timeless tracks and proof that some musical pairings are meant to be.

First up is 'Hollywood Squabble' which marries East Coast flow with a classic funk instrumental that results in a red-hot party starting bumper. On the reverse, a female MC does her thing on 'Coolie Dancin' In A Nissan Altima', which rides a bright, bold dancehall rhythm. Two very different but equally effective jams.
