Running Circle presents China-born DJ and producer Guohan, with his debut LP Lost Sound Book.
The 16 track publication charters an otherworldly inward journey, with influences ranging from ancestral rock carvings to bustling city streets, mythical tales to sunrise and sunset. Guohan draws from many places and cultures, hiphop and jazz, traditional music and everyday life, documenting the moods and colours left out from today’s society.
The fractured rhythms and harmonies on Lost Sound Book feel like a reconstruction of memories and missing links.

Fuera de Ambiente (2006), the latest album by Uruguayan musician and reference, Jaime Roos, now first time on vinyl! With a unique mix of music roots and cosmopolitan sounds, Jaime Roos would become one of the most successful and influential artists of Uruguayan music. Released in 2006, Fuera de Ambiente is his last album of original material so far. Without leaving aside the groove of candombe fusion music, the eloquence of murga and his distinctive blend of Latin-American rhythms with pop and rock touches, this is one of his most introspective and sophisticated works. A timeless record that has gained recognition over the years as one of Roos' greatest albums. This is the first time ever that Fuera de Ambiente is released on vinyl.

For Blood and Empire is the fifth studio album by American punk band Anti-Flag, released in 2006. In the same year, the song “The Press Corpse” entered the Hot Modern Rock Tracks Chart. Anti- Flag are known for their politically charged songs, often criticising right wing policies and conservative ideologies. For Blood and Empire was released during the reign of George W. Bush, so naturally the album boils over with vehement anti-Bush attacks and confrontational lyrics that overwhelmingly target the war in Iraq. Featuring classic Anti-Flag songs “The Press Corpse”, “This is the End (For You My Friend)” & “Depleted Uranium Is A War Crime (feat. Tom Morello)” and “1 Trillion Dollar$”. The LP set includes an 8-page booklet, which contains short essays for all but two songs, providing more in-depth perspective on the inspirations for the song subjects.

Dog of Two Head was the first step for Status Quo in becoming the band and achieving the sound they are known for. The music contains less of their psychedelic background and more of their wall of sound rock. The content takes on a heavy blues feel with plenty twelve bar rocking numbers. The single “Mean Girl”, was to become a UK #20 hit some time later, in April 1973. The innovative and inventive sound on this album makes it one of the best studio albums Status Quo have ever recorded.

"Liza With A 'Z'" is a multi-media production that has been showered with superlatives. It won numerous awards, including those for Choreography and Direction. However, a further award for the music composed by John Kander and Fred Ebb is probably the main reason for the show being released on a record, i.e. just for the ears. But the plan bore fruit, and the LP rocketed onto the Billboard 200. It was to be Liza Minnelli’s best chart hit ever – and it could even be called the soundtrack of her life.

Great favourites such as "Ring Them Bells" and "Bye Bye Blackbird" are set alongside sharp rhythm and blues numbers ("Son Of A Preacher Man", "I Gotcha"). Taking centre stage is a 10-minute medley from the film adaptation of the musical "Cabaret" that was shown in the cinemas also in 1972 and which brought Minnelli her international breakthrough.

All that remains of this costly and glamorous television event, which was only broadcast a few times on US television after the premiere, is the original music on record. Here it is once again in all its glory and with a new freshness.

Katy Kirby is a Texas-based songwriter and indie rock practitioner with an affinity for unspoken rules, misunderstanding and boredom. She was born, raised and homeschooled by two ex-cheerleaders in small-town Texas and started singing in church, amidst the pasteurised-pop choruses of evangelical worship. Like many bible belt late-millennials, Katy grew up on a strict diet of this dependably uncool genre and accordingly, Cool Dry Place finds her dismantling it. "I can hear myself fighting that deeply internalized impulse to make things that are super pleasant or approachable," she says. Though Katy hasn't fully overcome the itch to please, it's to a listener's benefit. Instead of eradicating the pop sensibilities of her past, she warps them, lacing sugary hooks with sneaky rage, twisting affectionate tones into matter-of-fact reproach, and planting seemingly serene melodies with sonic jabs. The fun is in the clash. The nine tracks that make up Cool Dry Place are miscellaneous in subject (motherhood, late capitalism, disintegrating relationships) but unified by the angle from which they're told: from a person re-learning to process life with intense attention. Each song is a catalogue of fragments, the number of segments in an orange or the cut of an obsessively-worn shirt, distilled into meditations on the bizarre and microscopic exchanges that make up modern life - a relationship splintering, an uncomfortable pause, an understanding finally found. These emotional dioramas are moderated by the angular storytelling that unites Gillian Welch and Phoebe Bridgers, a favour for the conventions of short fiction over confession.

An original compilation featuring legendary tracks from Serge Gainsbourg's early productions for the cinema. Tracks A1-A3 were recorded in December 1959 and are taken from the 1960 EP Bande Originale Du Film "L'eau À La Bouche". Tracks A4-A5 were recorded in December 1959 and are taken from the 1960 EP Bande Originale Du Film "Les Loups Dans La Bergerie". Track A6 was recorded in March and April 1963 and is taken from the 1963 LP N° 8 by Juliette Gréco. Tracks A7-B4 were recorded at the end of 1962 and are taken from the 1963 EP Bande Originale Du Film "Strip-Tease". Tracks B5-B8 were recorded in March 1963 and are taken from the 1964 EP Bande Originale Du Film "Comment Trouvez-Vous Ma Soeur ?".

Following on from a series of singles, 'Runnin' Wild', 'Confliction' and 'Jump The Line', First Word Records is very pleased to present a full-length EP from alt-soul artist Olivier St.Louis, produced by Oddisee - 'M.O.T.H. (Matters Of The Heartless)'

Olivier was born in Washington DC of Haitian and Cameroon heritage, but spent his teens studying in the UK. As a teenager, his CD and tape collection would encompass a wide range of genres, from hip hop and r&b to garage and British alternative rock. A bio-science student, Olivier couldn't suppress his true passion of music. After graduating, he took on a "Jekyll and Hyde" lifestyle; working as a scientist in the day, and a musician at night.

His work as a recording artist eventually lead to his debut release in 2011, 'The Mr. Saint Louis EP', released under the moniker Olivier Daysoul and produced by longtime collaborator and fellow Washingtonian, Oddisee, a revered hip hop producer / artist in his own right. From here on, Olivier began laying down vocals, collaborating and touring with a wide-range of artists over the following years, including Hudson Mohawke, C2C, Laura Mvula and German rockers, AnnenMayKantereit.

After taking a hiatus from feature work, Olivier decided to concentrate on nurturing his own sound. Embracing a newfound love for blues, rock and funk, a series of late night sessions saw him engulfed in new soundscapes, and reverting back to his birth name, Olivier St.Louis. This saw him release two critically-acclaimed EPs with Berlin-based label, Jakarta, and the release of 'The Serious EP' with Bibio on Warp Records.

Following world tours with many of the afore-mentioned, Olivier has been working on all-new material, which is now set to be unleashed upon the world via Worldwide Award-winning London label, First Word Records.

The 'M.O.T.H.' EP begins with the downtempo bump of 'Jump The Line' before the adrenaline-racing rhythm of 'Runnin Wild' steps up the pace. Next is second single 'Confliction'; a considerably moodier affair, with Oddisee on assist on the bars as well as on the boards. The flipside begins on a similar vein as the first with the smoothed-out soul of 'All In Love', before we head into the slightly jazzier tinged 'Quit'. 'Serotonin' follows next with a groove and bassline reminiscent of Sly Stone, before we close out with the feel-good uptempo boogie stepper, 'Steady'. With Oddisee on the boards throughout, this EP exemplifies Olivier's unique take on alternative soul.

Comparisons have already been made to something between D'Angelo and Shuggie Otis - big boots to fill, though easy to believe once you've seen and heard this man do his thing. This EP is essentially a classically-structured selection of soul-funk with a rock edge, and a touch of jazz. Each track is laced with Olivier's sweet harmonies and fuzzed-out guitar licks throughout, and mixed down with a little 2020 boom bap thump. A prime example of Olivier's unique talents and a set of quality contemporary alt-soul.

When asked his thoughts on his artistry, Olivier St. Louis simply states "no punches pulled, no compromises, just me".

'M.O.T.H. (Matters Of The Heartless)' is released via First Word Records in January 2021.

As has often been noted, psychedelic music can involve causal links between getting out of it and getting into it. Conversely, expansion of consciousness can be found by heading deep into the roots that a band explores, and journeying to the centre of their inspiration. Thus, a curious paradox is attained, whereby the traditional elements of an outfit’s sound are superseded by them blasting their core vibrations into unchartered territory. Such is the case with the new opus from third-eye visionaries Hills, a dizzying journey that traverses through the band’s origins and beyond to new dimensions.The Gothenburg-based Hills are entering their ninth year of existence, in which they’ve released two full-length albums, the second of which, ‘Master Sleeps’ saw a vinyl outing on Rocket last year. Part of a rich scene in their homestead also including friends and Rocket Recordings label mates Goat, they form the new chapter in a tradition of Swedish psychedelia that found its origins in late-’60s and early ‘70s freakouts and mind-melts by the likes of Baby Grandmothers and Älgarnas Trädgård - not to mention the unholy trinity of Pärson Sound, International Harvester and Träd Gräs och Stenar - before being developed by the likes of The Spacious Mind and Dungen in the last two decades. These inspirations make their mark on ‘Frid’ by journeying inward, via mantric repetition and hip-shaking pulsations as on the ten-minute monolith, ‘ Och Solen Sänkte Sig Röd’, yet they can also lurch into the unknown via the fuzz/wah odysseys of the aptly monikered ‘National Drone’ and the ceremonial exhortations of the closing ‘Death Will Find A Way.’As they also showed recently at a rare and spellbinding appearance at Liverpool International Festival Of Psychedelia, Hills have landed on a rich and intoxicating sound that sidesteps the cliches and humdrum stylistic foibles that often plague modern-day psych, in the process breathing new life into an approach that can sometimes seem in danger of appearing redundant through lack of imagination. ‘Frid’, their most out-of-mind and out-of-sight effort to date, crystallises everything that makes these Scandinavian satyrs stand out from the global herd; adventurous experimentation and fearless hallucinatory intensity, rendered with brass-knuckle fortitude. The end result is 38 minutes that translate into a feast for seasoned crate-diggers and fresh-faced converts alike. There is, indeed, gold in these here Hills.

Focus are a progressive rock band hailing from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Formed by Thijs van Leer, Hans Cleuver, Martijn Dresden and Jan Akkerman (whom had left his previous band Brainbox to pursue Focus), the band went on to become one of the most influential Dutch rock bands. Arguably the Netherlands’ most prominent grime artist, JLSXND7RS’ name is synonymous with some of the most iconic productions around, with a vast back catalogue including collaborations with Wiley, Footsie, Rocks FOE and Discarda. For the debut vinyl release on his fledgling label, Dark Knight, he’s brought out a long-awaited fan favourite alongside two gargantuan reimaginations.

From its brassy opening notes, “ Marching” is instantly recognisable – a minimal, yet menacing instrumental which has enjoyed countless plays from esteemed DJs including Slimzee and Sir Spyro since it first surfaced on the airwaves in 2016. It also comes with Mala’s seal of approval; the Digital Mystikz legend has cut the track to dubplate for use in his sets.

On side B1, dubstep royalty Caspa pares back the original to its base elements, instead introducing gritty basslines, mesmerising percussion and a grimy harmony to bridge the gap between the two genres.

The release concludes with a remix from Brighton innovator and Sector 7 signee J ook, which Outlook festival-goers will recognise. His melodic interpretation of the song includes swelling reversed synths, shuffling drums and cinematic breakdowns.

The Romance of Baba Loco is the latest iteration of a recording project by Samuel Huxley that originally made ambient soundscapes for psychotropics (Paradise Dose). In 2017 Samuel was curating infamous venue and scene of a multitude of glories & horrors, The Five Bells in New Cross, SE London. One of his first acts to play was Primordial Soup, at that time a 3 piece absurdist art rock band. They quickly became friends & began performing semi-improv shows as a 5 piece, and later went on to form Primordial Soup Collective who’s main focus was esoteric experimental theatre & film, and rare multidisciplinary exhibitions.

This changing focus of Soup away from sound provoked Samuel to channel his musical compulsions in to his solo project which had by then ventured far away from ambient soundscapes to shrieking Indian and Moroccan oboes over African & Indian tribal rhythms, with the desire to create the raw lo-fi atmospheres of street music. Gradually guitar styles of South East Asia & Latin America were introduced, leading to backing track solo performances & outrageous live improv freakouts with Craig Deporto (ex-Flamingods) & Luke Bell (Ex-Wild Birds of Britain).

Finally two days before the glorious pandemic lock down, Samuel signed to Faith & Industry, which birthed new moniker “The Romance of Baba Loco” and 3 months worth of ceaseless creation. From the Hindu Ceremonial music of the Shehnai & Nadaswaram to post-punk, absurdism & experimental art, The Romance of Baba Loco finally united two seemingly dissonant sides of his personality in a manner he had not previously achieved. The old material was cast off, and these peculiar fruits of imprisonment, can be found on his first release, “Cling Clang For Funk Monkeys”.

When Claud Mintz's mother finally heard the 13 songs on her kid's magnetic first album, Super Monster, she asked a concerned question: Just how many people had her 21-year-old dated? From beginning to end, these sparkling pop tunes capture the assorted stages of a relationship's delight and dejection_the giddy sensation of a first kiss during the beaming "Overnight," the heartsick longing of a pending rejection during the yearning "Jordan," the reluctant call for a requisite breakup during the smoldering "Ana." Claud, though, replied that these songs detailed the phases of only two or three relationships, simply written during them or at various points after they were over. The debut release on Phoebe Bridgers' Saddest Factory Records, Super Monster is a vertiginous but joyous coming-of-age reckoning with such young love. Claud sees relationships as games of endless wonder, intrigue, and second-guesses, a roller-coaster thrilling you even when it's terrifying. If "Gold" turns the tension and indecision of a bad match into an undeniable bit of lithe disco, "That's Mr. Bitch To You" uses a spurt of righteous indignation to fuse a little soul and emo into one breathless hook. Super Monster is like a compulsive compilation that Claud culled from a lifetime of musical enthusiasms_the arcing alt-rock of '90s airwaves, the rapturous pop of '00s chart-toppers, the diligent genre-hopping of modern online life. Claud emerges as the chameleonic mastermind of this mélange, channeling all of love's emotions into songs so sharp they make even the hardest times feel fun. Perhaps you are in the throes of one of these romantic moments yourself right now, resentful of a frustrating paramour like Claud during "Pepsi" or indulging in lust like "In or In Between." Or maybe these songs recall those wild days and tough situations. The tones are bright and optimistic, though fans of confusion and gloom will still find solace in the album’s darker moments, of which there are a few. Rat Columns emerged from San Francisco via Perth, Western Australia in the late 2000’s with the mope ’n’ jangle of their first self-titled cassette release, from which several tracks were drawn for their first vinyl release, a four-song 7” on the San Francisco based indie label, Smartguy Records. From that moment, DW and a constantly evolving troupe of friends and co-conspirators have forged a persistent trail of albums and EP’s on a number of interesting small labels such as RIP Society, Upset The Rhythm, Blackest Ever Black, Syncro-System, Adagio 830 and now the London-based Tough Love Records, who have also released many of David’s eponymous pop records. • Joe Brown is the English musician who has being working as a rock and roll singer and guitarist for more than six decades and continues to play over 100 shows every year. Often described as a ‘musician's musician’, Brown is admired by fellow artists and fans alike.

A Powys trio whose free-spirited invention and exuberant intensity flows through experimental pop: hypnotic, exhilarating and defiantly unique. The Welsh band Islet return with the release of their long-awaited new album, and now available on Ltd edition Pink Vinyl. Eyelet was recorded at home tucked away in the hills of rural Mid Wales. It took form the months following the birth of band members Emma and Mark Daman Thomas' second child and the death of fellow band member Alex Williams' mother. Alex came to live with Emma and Mark, and the band enlisted Rob Jones (Pictish Trail, Charles Watson) to produce. 'Caterpillar' described by Emma as "a song for my unborn child". It's followed by syncopated lullaby 'Good Grief' with its haunting keyboard hook and icy percussion thawed by Emma's yearning vocals about the quiet strength of generations of women. With nods towards Arthur Russell and Jenny Hval, 'Geese' is a mini symphony of driven electronica inspired by Welsh cultural theorist Raymond Williams' novel People Of The Black Mountains. Leeds-based art-rock trio Mush release their feverish second
album, ‘Lines Redacted’, via Memphis Industries. The new
release, which finds the group recruiting Lee Smith (The Cribs,
Pulled Apart By Horses) on mixing duties, arrives just under a
year after their debut, ‘3D Routine’, capping off what has been
an obviously tumultuous but remarkably prolific year for the
band. With any prospect of live shows decimated, the group,
led by songwriter Dan Hyndman, have found the time to
release two EPs (‘Great Artisanal Formats’ and ‘Yellow Sticker
Hour’) and now a duo of full-length albums.
Tipped previously by the likes of 6 Music, Loud & Quiet, Uncut,
Q, Stereogum, DIY, The Line of Best Fit, Dork and more, Mush,
comprised of Hyndman (guitar/vox), Nick Grant (bass/vox) and
Phil Porter (drums), present their own sonic idiosyncrasy. It’s a
sound that blurs the lines of abstract surrealism, existentialism
and social commentary; utilising guitars as tools in 2020 to
stave off malaise whilst simultaneously commenting on the
nation’s ability to fall into such dire straits. It’s a sensory
overload of wiry tones that zig-zag between punk, prog and
sardonic-funk with a relentless ability to reflect society’s faults
and apathy in a unique and acerbic manner.
Whereas the band’s debut was very much a product of its time,
something part-inspired by the political atmosphere of mid-
2019 and a genuine moment of optimism when the prospect of
a socialist government in the UK was on the cards, this new
record uses tongue-in-cheek cynicism as a coping mechanism
for the environment that we now find ourselves in. From one
song to the next, ‘Lines Redacted’ introduces a string of
different narrators with each providing a different reflection on
the Armageddon scenario that we are slowly entering, whether
that’s bemoaning it or gleefully willing it along. ‘3D Routine’
presented a bed of scathing political jibes latching onto themes
and decisions of the time. ‘Lines Redacted’ mutates these ideas
into something slightly more sinister whilst maintaining all of
Hyndman’s razor-sharp wit that permeates the album.

The legendary reggae artist Frederick Nathaniel “Toots” Hibbert and his band The Maytals continuously put out great albums. Their classic sound will be familiar with reggae fans. The songs range from stone reggae groove to rocksteady. Sadly Toots passed away in Kingston, Jamaica, on September 11th, 2020 but his legacy lives on through classic records such as Just Like That.

Muddy Water Blues: A Tribute to Muddy Waters is the second solo album by Paul Rodgers, best known as the vocalist of Free and Bad Company. This album features collaborations with many artists, including Brian May, Buddy Guy, David Gilmour, Jeff Beck, Gary Moore, Richie Sambora, Slash, and Steve Miller. He took these classic blues tunes and arranged them a little more towards rock. The album was recorded at various studios due to the many guests on the album, but producer Billy Sherwood managed to keep the sound pretty similar throughout. Muddy Water Blues was nominated for a Grammy Award.

Now available as a limited edition of 2000 individually numbered copies on translucent yellow coloured vinyl.

Magnum are an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1972. The Eleventh Hour is their fourth studio album. It was produced by the band themselves, after their record label Jet Records denied the band a big name producer due to the delay to their first and third albums. The record is available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on purple coloured vinyl. It includes two bonus tracks: “The Word (Alternative Orchestral Version)” and “True Fine Live (Outtake)”. The packages comes with an insert.

Aside from being one of the founding members of legendary rock band Europe, Swedish guitarist John Norum also maintains an impressive career as a solo artist. Another Destination was released in 1995 as his third solo album. The album was received well, with Allmusic giving the record four stars out of five. Another Destination features nine songs penned by John Norum, as well as two covers of “Strange Days” by Humble Pie and “Sunshine of Your Love” by Cream. The record is released as a limited edition of
1500 individually numbered copies on transparent red vinyl. The package also includes an insert.

Doc at the Radar Station is the eleventh album by American blues rock band Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band. Released in 1980, this album resulted in a resurgence of Beefheart’s (also known as Don Van Vliet) popularity. The album, which was self-produced by Beefheart, was critically acclaimed as well. It would be Beefheart’s second-to-last album before his retirement from music. The album is now available on black vinyl.
