In 2021 Bristol Hip-Hop duo Ree-Vo released two singles from their forthcoming album ‘All Welcome On Planet Ree-Vo’. The first was the Electro-Hop, LFO-surfing ‘Combat’ with a remix by SURGEON. The second -dropped as a digital double A-side in December - was the dark, submersive ‘Groove With It’ remixed by New Jersey’s legendary Dälek and ‘Protein’ remixed by The Bug (who released what many considered to be 2021’s album of the year ‘Fire’). smartURL.it/EDDA56

Ree-Vo begin 2022 in contrast with this their hookiest track on their album, a party throwing chorus spinning tipsy visitors around the intergalactic control booth of mission control.

“Lift off, blast off, shirt off, pants off, bra off, Dance off! Naked in the dance hall SPACE BOX!”
is the beamed mantra, rapper Relly transmitting to all occupants of the galaxy.
“We wanted to make a hedonistic and colourful dancehall track, a bold response to the suppressive circumstances of the last two years”.

Helping them on this seven’s mission are two remixes, one by NØISE (the musical collective of Joe Cassidy, Shepard Fairey, Merritt Lear and John Goff) and BATBIRDS (the duo of Joe Cassidy and Aaron Miller). Common to both of course is Joe Cassidy who recorded for Dell’Orso (as well as Rough Trade and Dedicated) as Butterfly Child. These mixes were made at the end of 2020, the record sent off to print in February 2021, five months before Joe’s incredibly sad departure from this planet, at least physically. So for all of us involved it’s a very bittersweet release, but another piece of art that Joe was undoubtedly thrilled to be involved with.

For the third release of Captea, the Italian duo deliver a two tracker EP + remix. Vibra is a tech house joint with a hint of electro, a modern vision of club music that fit any DJ set. Saturnia brings you to another dimension with an acid sequence and voice playing over a badass groove. The B-side is curated by Nuances de Nuit's founder T. Jacques with his reinterpretation of Vibra.

Savy Records welcomes rising talent Slak to their roster with the multifaceted 4-track EP 'Trilogy of Reasons', the third issue from the innovative and fast-growing label. The Berlin-based Italian producer's 90s' influences shine in opener 'I See The Light', a jubilant acid techno bomb built on groovy 909 patterns, deep Detroit-influenced chords and a hypnotic 303 riff. The more esoteric 'Confusion' throws out plenty of hooks via arpeggiated synth lines and warm distorted kick drums, while 'Reasons' delivers a slow-building dystopian energy - full of slamming breakbeats and euphoric pads, it's perfect for warming up a dance floor. Now, label head Voltmar returns to the subseries Minimood Extra together with his good friend Polish DJ/producer Blazej Malinowski to serve up two individual atmospheric, dub-techno reworks of Russian underground duo Advanced Dreams’ ‘Blurred Trip’ pressed on transparent wax.

Inner Tension chief Blazej Malinowski’s interpretation of the aptly titled ‘Blurred Trip’ creates a complex sonic soundscape as evocative keys, subtle percussion, reverberating basslines and ethereal samples work in harmony. On the flip, Voltmar offers up a chuggy, stripped back reshape as ghostly echoes, tight snares, and a punchy bassline carry this profoundly emotive cut.

All-conquering Dutch superstars Kraak & Smaak have taken the electronic music world by storm, sealing their international pedigree with a slew of sought-after tracks, remixes, and killer collaborations (Parcels, Mayer Hawthorne and many more). Their live show has seen them play every festival and club worth a mention from Glastonbury to Coachella and beyond. emphasises the textural nature of the music & restores the pieces to their original
arrangements & track lengths (resulting in a different listening experience).

With the first track it becomes clear what this is all about: Wobbly metamorphous sounds from outer space jamming with stomping and bass driven techno beats of tomorrow, a new kind of rave, hypnotic and seductive, utterly strange but wonderfully catchy and contagious in a good sense, harsh shuffled hiatus and alternating kick drums, a relentless bassline and sophisticated electronic sounds in a a permanent evolution resembling and invoking altered states of consciousness.

This new rave anthem seems like a classic you haven’t heard about. Muscle memories from dancefloor days trigger your body as you listen on your headphones, awaiting the chance to play it out soon, hopefully, as the dance floors slowly reopen. Alternating between parts of kickdrum, clap and snare awesomeness, and the mangled rave signals that slowly morph into a more concrete melody reminiscent of ancient dreams of the future, this track has it all for the club kids of today.

B1. La Vida Loca
The title track is a tech banger that will please those who dig Kenny Larkin, Claude Young, The Surgeon, Dave Clark or any other star in the nocturnal sky of Techno Techno, as well as the lovers of DJs Pareja’s classic Cómeme Clubbangers, or the more Techno side of Mr. Aguayo. Definitely has the potential to become a huge hit if enough djs that don’t rely on algorithms get their hands on it

The closer is hyper modern tech funk at its best. Percussive greatness as you can find it on many Cómeme releases is triggered in a different way, “sabroso” rhythms that are played in the light and purposeful way of an elegant jazz drummer, pave the way for an always evolving psychedelic lead synth sound, that will be a useful tool for the dj who knows when to keep the groove, prolonging those magic times between the risings...

This is a very special EP. As many might know Toy Tonics started as a sublabel of now sleeping German indie dance label Gomma records. Gomma, along with DFA, Output Records and a few other was knownn for a very ecclectic, different approach in dance music. On this LOST GOMMA MIXES EP you find 4 now lost tracks that came out ca 10 - 20 years ago on Gomma, but fit very well in today’s zeitgeist again. Pete Herbert, In Flagranti, Jacques Lu Cont are featured. Who knows about modern disco - knows these producers. And there is a very special name here too: Nicky Siano. The now legendary New York DJ used to be resident at Studio 54 and other legendary NYC venues of the 1970ies and 1980ies. One of his are remix works was for the Gomma rcords band The KDMS. Pure disco euphoria.

Hard Drive, formerly appearing on Vibe Alive Records in the 90’s as a two track ep, now remastered and featuring two new remixes. The remixes see the highly skilled artist Vers-e-tyle make his debut on vinyl, with Ruff Jam doing the remix honours for “My Melody”.

Fabio & Grooverider have been at the forefront of UK dance music for over 3 decades. This is the roots of their story told through music. The 2 London DJ's are part of the DNA of the global Jungle / D&B movement and they have remained relevant, cutting edge, authoritative and essential to this truly underground art-form since it's inception. RAGE could arguably be the ground zero of Jungle. The party was started at London's cavernous Heaven club by Fabio & Grooverider in 1988, at the height of Acid House fever that was making it's way up and down the motorways, slip-roads, fields and warehouses of the M25 and further beyond every weekend, troubling the nation, the police, your parents and the press as it went. Written under his Analogue-1 alias, head to B1 for the legendary sounds of James Zeiter shimmering through on “Counterpoint”. A subtle and stripped back 4/4 trip into the lighter side of acid inspired grooves that shuffles out into the unknown: tweaking all the way as the intensity build. Powerful stuff at the right moment, do not underestimate the alchemy at work here. Last but not least, newcomer Morthen Kiang leaves us on a punchy 909 driven martian inspired work out, that fully summons the vibe of our Red Planet friends. A perfect ending note packed full of machine oscillations and cosmic waves.

At the start of 2021 I realized I hadn't paid much attention to my own productions lately, rather spending time doing remixes
or mixdowns for others or like many others, worrying over what the future will bring.

I started going through tracks and ideas I had started on but not completed and now as another annus horribilis nears the end
I have 2 albums ready for release, entitled "8" and "9".

Although I promised myself to never say it I personally think they're my best work so far and I hope someone else will get the
feeling of "a light at the end of the tunnel" when listening to these tracks just like I feel when listening back to them.

There are contributions from the very capable hands of Bugge Wesseltoft("8") and John Carroll Kirby(on both "8" and "9"), besides that it's just me.

An unique nexus of electronic music and jazz! Fabio Kumori drum machine, synth, efx, double bass and Ü tenor sax, efx came together in several studio sessions and recorded the tracks for this album.

Some of the tracks let us feel electronic grooves close to house music combined with atmospheres reminding us on ambient music as well as nuances from Detroit techno. While on some tracks the tenor sax sounds pure and intensive like known from free jazz improvisations, on other tracks the sound of the sax is strongly modified by live efx that let it sound like electronic waves drifting through the endless space of universe.

Having become one of Crosstown Rebels’ key artists in recent years, Barcelona-born Tibi Dabo returns to the label this February with his latest EP, the four track Isla. Since debuting on the label in 2019, Tibi Dabo (AKA Max Guardans) has cemented his place amongst the Crosstown family with standout EPs such as Disbelieve and The Distance We Share, the latter of which featuring two remixes from David Morales.

Tibi Dabo creates this scene perfectly as the title track opens proceedings, easing the listener in with delicate pads before waves of harmonious elements and finely placed percussions dance in and out of the track. Mothball then further emphasises the artist’s attention to detail as its lead melody and vocal-chops develop in tandem throughout. Brain The Cut follows, acting as a metaphorical signal of nightfall on Tibi Dabo’s conceptual island. Rounding off the release, Arp 8 delivers warming melodies atop of a subtle break beat in an exquisitely emotive manner.

Still in its infancy, yet mature in its intention, the Tibi Dabo project sees Max in his element; drawing on over a decade of playing and making music, perfectly demonstrated on Isla. Emerging from a new generation of multi-disciplined artists, Tibi Dabo’s refreshingly unique sound has also seen him remix for Crosstown Rebels head Damian Lazarus on two occasions. Determined and full of creative energy, Tibi Dabo thrives on producing music with no restrictions and, driven by his own need for exploration together with the support of influential industry figureheads, he has a locker full of fresh new music to unleash.

As an energetic force in the downtown New York perfor1mance art noise scene for over ffteen years, Lumberob is releasing his debut solo LP - Language Learner - on Shimmy-Disc. Having collaborated now for over 23 years, Kramer and Lumberob understand how to make rather majestic messes. This music is urgent madness, overfowingly decorative, lusciously spastic, with an unpredictably eclectic sonic vaudeville energy. Lumberob emerged from a year in Costa Rica with a bag full of pandemic recordings. As a rejuvenated yet still scrappy loop artist expanding his sound with synth bass and drum machines, yet still rooted in improvised vocal phrase looping and skanky guitar, Lumberob insists this album Language Learner to be a bold exercise in genre discovery or genre blur, proudly assuming its position in high contrast to other recent gorgeously crafted Shimmy-Disc releases. It is this contrast that’s reminiscent of the wildly divergent and inventive catalog curated by Kramer from decades past. This debut is an odd blend of ingredients, but the concept is relentlessly pure Lumberob. Participants in Costa Rica include David Mendez playing nylon string, Alicia Cigna singing, Ariel Soto playing partial kit and conga, and Juan Jose Lopez playing bongos. Additional sessions in Brooklyn include Tobin Scroggins playing guitar and Becca Stabile singing. Kramer added bits and pieces throughout during his mixing and mastering of the album. Call it Dada Ska - a skanky electro-bounce. This is dance music for working things out. This is workout music for dancing things, and the live show is truly the dafy psychedelic roughneck business.

Berserk Finnish raw black metal disease Hexerei bring us their venom-soaked debut full-length abomination "Ancient Evil Spirits", a deranged aural gateway to unseen depths of madness and total hell that will reshape the listener's idea of terror and toss them into the outermost circles of insanity. Comprising of four primordial stabs of blown out and feral homicidal rawness, "Ancient Evil Spirits" overboils from the witches cauldron with the quintessence of evil like an acid-drenched spell, invoking ancient evil forces, uncontrolled hysteria, and malevolent plague-ridden rituals to torment the listener with merciless violence and abandon. Reminiscent in its malevolence and primeval cruelty to ancient black metal cults like Darkthrone, Mayhem, Cultes Des Ghoules, and Katharsis, Hexerei however push these limits further and redefine the very concept of total aural filth by working the formula into a wider canvas, with lengthier compositions, an even more perverse emphasis on primitivism, and a more unpredictable and ambitious songwriting that has unearthed truly unsettling and terrifying new manifestations of the craft.

Straight from the fertile imagination of Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs guitarist Sam Grant comes Rubber Oh - a place where an irreverent magpie spirit has its way with the eternal psych-pop continuum. ‘Little Demon’ is the first sample of this fresh foray - a bass-driven, blissed out mantra that sets out its stall where the travails of the everyday fade into the transcendental realm of the astral plane. A whole new box of sonic delights from a curious and artful talent, this track maps out a refreshing new landscape on which shameless melodic suss and wayward aural eccentricity lock horns. Some may be reminded of the likes of Air’s ‘10000Hz Legend’ and Super Furry Animals ‘Radiator’ by the montage of 60s-tinged mind-melt and sleek futurism here, but the truth is that Rubber Oh is a manifestation of a very personal vision. Alchemically assembled in his own Blank studios in Newcastle, ‘Little Demon’ - in all its thundering, earcandy glory, and accompanied by a Faustian, abstraction-embracing remix by friends and cohorts Richard Dawson and Circle’s Jussi Lehtisalo - is merely a first step into the unknown. “It’s a reference to when you’re lying in bed and your thoughts sabotage you” reasons Grant of ‘Little Demon’ - “It’s all meant to be this fixed loop - the lyrics, the riff, the drums - a constant repetition that keeps going round, maybe like a fever dream. Regal's "Remember Why You Started" LP faces its final rework. The last package welcomes Regal and Sita Abellan, Thomas P.Heckmann, _asstnt & Roll Dann and Alignment to shine their production skills to the Spanish techno luminaries first album.

Regal & multi-faceted Spanish artist Sita Abellan collaborated for the rework of "Cult Of Personality". Their rendering leans heavily into the realm of electro, with heavily distorted synth lines marching through like a freight train. Darting keys rush and reverberate back upon themselves before a powerful female vocal sample takes over from the male voice that commanded the original. Germany's Thomas P Heckmann takes on "Before I Die". Heavier and beefier than the original, the kick drum and baseline of Heckmann's remix take control and dominate the landscape. He retains Pau's distinct vocals, leaving a familiar dash of the original in this bolder rework. Percussion takes a front seat in this version, with snare drums and cymbals combating the bitter main synth melody.

Straight from Madrid's underground scene are producers _asstnt & Roll Dann, who team up for the remix of "Respect". A cut up, distorted rework that grows darker and more robust throughout. Bottomless kick drums ring out, while a heavily distorted electric guitar sample brings grime and a sonic haze to the track. The American male vocal sample is kept on from the original and remains even more powerful in it's reworked state than before. Italian producer Alignment wraps up with the accurately placed track "The Last Dance". In this final remix of the series the kick drum received a complete overhaul, instantly pivoting the track into a darker place. Only the curious melodic key sequence pours light into the track and brings with it an overwhelming sense of positivity to the closer. The baseline backs up the melody before percussion breakdowns take centre stage and the two fight for dominance until the final beat.

n 2018, unknown artist James Infiltrate dropped an album of smart electro tunes that get everyone talking. It turned out to be an alias of James Burnham aka Burnski aka the Constant Sound boss aka Instinct, who is one of the most visible and prolific artists of recent years. Now some of the cuts from that album get choice remixes - AlexJann flips 'Flash' into a caustic electro banger with bright synths and twisted bass. Stojche goes for a lurching, loopy, scintillating and loopy remix of 'Isolate' that takes you to the stars and the flip offers up an acid laced electro cruiser from Sound Synthesis and Relpek mix of 'Reconnect' that is melodic and mysterious.

Regal drops the first remix package from his debut album featuring Slam, PTU and Boston 168.

Involve Records boss Regal presents "RWYS Remixes Pt.01" - the first installment of three immense remix packages from the Spanish techno giant's debut album, "Remember Why You Started". Recruiting international powerhouse duo's Slam, PTU & Boston 168 to rework the earth-shattering originals.

Scotland's luminary duo Slam kicks off with their edit of "She Dances Alone". The pair's distinctive tweak is the alchemization of the kick drum, pivoting into a thunderous force. The kick is paired with claps that ricochet above a determined synth line, while the low-slung baseline mists under twinkling keys and sprinklings of hoover noise, giving the rework an old school feel. Uplifting major notes inject brightness & contrast to the track, with the cunning acid line lingering 'til close.

Next, enigmatic Russian twosome PTU transform "Dealing With My Pain", a once low tempo mid-point track, into a primary dancefloor weapon. This heavily industrialised rendition utilises an incessantly deep bass drum while maintaining the commanding male vocal sample. Blistering hi-hats, and a wildly distorted synth breakdown build a brash and dubious mood. The thumping kick drum drives the track forward, looping electrical elements that ring out from ear to ear, surrounding you with wild noise and energy.

Italy's acid techno aficionado's Boston 168 step up to close with their interpretation of "Fearful Nights". In true style, the duo mould the very start of the track to blend with their signature sound. A bumping kick drum and quintessential 303 manipulate the melody, resulting in a far more venomous composition than the original. Sinister synth stabs slice through the chaos with a hi-hat and snare drum combination for extra effect.

Varaz (Steven Taelman, BE) returns to Moodfamily for a second time. His nifty synth work is this time accompanied by remixes of none other than Lawrence (Giegling), Dewalta & Moodfamily's very own AMyn.

Lovers of Berlin's nightly hours will certainly feel Baba Yaga's purpose. It's exactly how the boogeyman is supposed to come across: slightly haunting, in dark rooms, surrounded by smoke and people dancing as if they are summoning the demon of the early hours.

Terribly awesome, horrifically effective yet it feels like divine intervention. Hauntingly beautiful.

Reissue of this club classic from 1997, remastered for 2021!

Taken from Skinshape’s ‘Umoja’ album with a remix from Manny Talvez & Alae. Both tracks produced and recorded by Skinshape. The ‘Sua Alma’ original version was created to represent the 'diaspora' aspect of Skinshape’s ‘Umoja’ album released in 2020. Most of the album is quite Afro-centric, and for ‘Sua Alma’ he wanted to incorporate a slightly Latin feel. It’s a collaboration with D'Alma who is a Portuguese singer living in London at the time. It’s also an attempt to create something more dancefloor-orientated track. It also features a 4-part Ghanaian percussion section. The ‘Sua Alma Remix’ was remixed by friends Manny and Alae, who used to share Skinshape’s previous studio 'The Arch’. Manny was also playing percussion on some of the ‘Umoja’ album tracks and Alae has been on hand as a keyboard player for Skinshape on one or two occasions.

Dutch producer Lennart debuts on KopjeK Records’ second release with a 4-track electro EP called “Vitamin D”. It features three originals; the Italo and Trance infused club track called “Koalas March” is on the A-side, accompanied by the more dreamy “Vitamin D”. On the other side there is “I Don’t Know Your Life”, a more sentimental approach, which was made together with his partner in crime Lola. French producer Kendal, well known for his releases on Dischi Autunno, Moustache Records and Ritmo Fatale, is on remix duty. He took “I Don’t Know Your Life” for a more old school electro ride. The release came together in the first big lockdown in The Netherlands. The weird times of having to stay home and not being able to play gave Lennart the opportunity and inspiration to create this stellar EP. Early support comes from the likes of Biesmans, Tjade, DC Salas, Mouissie & Miimo.

Following a four-year hiatus, our main imprint is back with a new outing by our long-time friend, Laslo. His previous works found home on quality record labels like Greta Cottage Workshop, Greta Cottage Woodpile and Soundscape Versions. Now he is delivering three originals, all shaped and arranged along his dub-infused, peculiar sound. As label heads, we rarely focus on remixes, but in the case of this EP we could not resist the chance to get one by the Hungarian drum & bass veteran Ghost Warrior (31 Records, re:st, Well Street Records), who did his first ever remix for Tape Hiss, this time exploring the mid-tempo territory.
