The Gothenburg, Sweden based psychedelic rock combo Hollow Ship returns with Animated Music, a new EP and the follow-up to their acclaimed 2020 debut LP Future Remains which was praised by ex Prog Magazine, Shindig! and Raven Sings the Blues. With the band’s unique rhythm-driven blend of psychedelic rock and prog, with traces of jazz and hard rock as well as a myriad of other influences, at he forefront Animated Music pushes the band further into the instrumental realm than before. A cinematic journey over the space of 20 minutes, the music was originally written as an aural companion to the band’s Space Motion show visuals before being reworked into the shape of the Animated Music EP. With the band’s upcoming second full-length due in the winter, Animated Music showcases the band’s instrumental storytelling at great effect, further establishing the band at the orefront of the Swedish psychedelic scene alongside luminaries such as Dungen and Goat. Animated Music is due out on May 31 via Swedish indie label PNKSLM Recordings (7ebra, Chemtrails, ShitKid etc) on limited edition splatter vinyl (limited to 500 units worldwide) and digitally.

The Midnight Hour Live At Linear Labs was recorded on February 22nd, 2019. Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad performed The Midnight Hour in front of a live audience at Linear Labs studio in Los Angeles. This was a direct-to-analog tape recording that 200 very lucky fans were a part of. Recorded and mixed by Adrian Younge at Linear Labs, the preeminent analog studio of Los Angeles, CA.

To celebrate Gene Clark"s landmark 1974 record, No Other, turning 50, 4AD are proud to be releasing the album"s session tracks for the first time on vinyl. Mixed from their original multi-track tapes and spread over two discs, these 18 alternative versions taken from No Other"s recording sessions at LA"s infamous Village Recorder studio offer a fascinating insight into the making of this timeless album. Housed in a mirror board, gatefold sleeve and containing photos from the 1974 recording sessions as well as comprehensive song notes, this special edition is being pressed on double black vinyl with the first disc containing the best / most interesting take of each track and the second disc being every first full take.

Long Gone (Are The Old Traditions) is a label out of London.

A label focused on DIY electronics, post punk, dub and techno from now and before.

The first release is from West London artist, singer and songwriter Tutu Ta. A mini LP of out there, dubbed up, post punk mutations meeting old sounding industrial electronics following from his highly acclaimed debut album last year.

Its already seen the light of day on soundsystems across the city and further afield as well as stations like NTS, Rinse & Tom Ravenscroft's BBC 6 New Music Fix.

If blue is the color of sadness, or the best color to reach authenticity, R.Y.F. – the project of the Italian singer-songwriter and musician Francesca Morello, based in Ravenna – goes even further with the new album Deep Dark Blue. Deep Dark Blue is an underwater album, maybe it is even a deep-sea album. The sound is dark and muffled, as if we were in a sort of cradle, a blue bubble, a sea cocoon in which to wrap ourself ves to regenerate and achieve peace, but whose casing also conveys energy. Born following a dazzling baptism in the mesmerizing sea of Stromboli, in Sicily, Deep Dark Blue is an album of suffering and healing which confirms R.Y.F.‘s destabilizing power. According to her: ”Sometimes I experience moments of great suffering, in the last two years caused by my wife’s health problems. I was “broken inside” and I didn’t know if I would be able to go back to the way I was before. Deep Dark Blue tells how I felt and how I would like to rebuild myself. I still talk about the freedom to love, but I also felt the need to talk about suffering, and I tried to do all this with irony, in the most joyful way possible. And it worked. That’s why this is also a healing album”. In Deep Dark Blue there are also some important guests, underlining R.Y.F.’s rise in her international career. They are Moor Mother, Skin (Skunk Anansie) and Alos (aka Stefania Pedretti, formerly OvO and Allun), united by feminism, queerness and political activism, to get precious artistic affinities stronger in these hard times of new repression that we are experiencing. Deep Dark Blue arose from software and analog instruments and was then developed with Maurizio “Icio” Baggio (The Soft Moon, Boy Harsher), who also took care of recording, production, mixing and mastering at the music studio La Distilleria in Bassano del Grappa. Matteo Vallicelli (The Soft Moon, Death Index) participated in the production of some tracks. Although it flows with compact fluidity, the album highlights R.Y.F.‘s mastery in expressing herself through different stylistic genres. There is a dark electro-punk common thread, but there are also blackness (Run Run Run), alt-metal guitars on dance house structures (Can I Can U feat. Skin), industrial doom (Deep Dark feat. Alos) and other experiments (the instrumental interludes Droplets and Sirene). The variety of sounds corresponds to a spontaneous variety of topics. The theme of suffering opens and closes the tracklist with Blue and Deep Dark feat. Alos, almost as if to represent a first contact with the water and the culmination reaching the bottom of the abyss, and is approached both with a smile on the lips in the sexy Lies and from a more authorial perspective in the heartfelt Violent Hopes and December 25th, the first songs on the album to have been written. Deep Dark Blue by R.Y.F. is an immersion from which you emerge different from your old self, some kind of magical creature in a new form, but it is first of all an electric shock from which one is violently happy to be struck.

It's five years since we first released Yosi Horikawa's 'Vapor' album. To commemorate the occassion, we're releasing the album on vinyl for the very first time, also including a previously unreleased bonus track, 'Yoggo'.

The devil is in the details. And Yosi Horikawa understands this perhaps better than most musicians from his generation, crafting compositions with broad appeal that also withstand the most intricate scrutiny. Originality has always been a rare currency in the creative arts, and having honed his voice over the years Yosi has plenty of it to give to those willing to listen.

The RBMA graduate has collaborated with artists such as Jesse Boykins III, Dorian Concept & Daisuke Tanabe, performed at Glastonbury, Sónar, Mutek, Dimensions, Low End Theory, Ninja Tune's Solid Steel & Boiler Room, featured in Time Out Tokyo, XLR8R, Dummy & more, and received acclaim and support from the likes of Benji B, Tom Ravenscroft, Fulgeance, DJ Food and Gilles Peterson, with whom he has worked with on several projects since the release of 'Vapor', for Brownswood, Worldwide Festival & Worldwide FM respectively, producing a regular feature, 'Soundscape with Yosi Horikawa'.

Besides writing and producing music, Yosi is a highly skilled sound engineer, working with prestigious architects, fashion brands, and technology firms as well as designing speakers for bars and clubs. He's also composed numerous jingles and theme songs for radio stations to science exhibitions. Such is his diversity and originality, he was the subject of an RBMA film documentary in 2014, 'Layered Memories'.

Following his debut EP on Eklektik Records, two EPs were released on First Word prior to this, his debut album, 'Vapor'. 17 tracks from the Japanese sound designer and producer that weave together diverse field recordings and sample sources, with rhythms and melodies, creating something that defies stylistic boxing. Echoes of dance music, hip hop and musique concrete can all be found amid the sounds of nature and everyday life that underpin the grooves of the music. 'Vapor' is an album in the old-fashioned sense, a tightly-woven sonic journey that benefits from repeat listens.

Sondern das Album dreht sich um Themen wie persönlicher Wandel, physische Veränderung, psychologische Weiterentwicklung und die sich erneuernde Welt um uns herum. DOOL und insbesondere Sänger/in und Gitarrist/in Raven van Dorst stellen Fragen: Wie wirkt sich der Wandel auf uns aus? Wie bleiben wir uns selbst in einer Welt treu, die so unglaublich herausfordernd und aggressiv gegenüber dem Individuum ist? Dies führte zu einer Existenz auf der Suche nach der eigenen Seele, dem Kampf gegen Tabus und die Überschreitung von Grenzen, bis Raven vor kurzem beschloss, das zurückzufordern, was andere versuchten hatten, ihnen wegzunehmen - und ihre hermaphroditische Natur zu akzeptieren. Der Bandname DOOL leitet sich vom niederländischen Wort für "Wandern" ab. Bereits das im Jahr 2017 erschienene Debütalbum "Here Now, There Then" landete einen sofortigen Volltreffer. Der frisch-wilde Rock- und Metalsound aus den Niederlanden wurde von den renommierten deutschen Magazinen Metal Hammer und Rock Hard zum "Album des Monats" gekürt. Auch Vice (US), Aardschok (NL) und De Volkskrant (NL) überschütteten die junge Band mit Lob. Mit ihrem zweiten Album "Summerland", das 2020 erschien, übertrafen DOOL die ohnehin schon hochgesteckten Erwartungen. Men of North Country from Tel Aviv follow up their late 2023 digital single and Keith Richards cover "Hate It When You Leave" with a rousing vinyl version of Carl Carlton's Northern Soul floorfiller "I Can Feel It". This 7inch release is backed by a special, as yet unreleased version of the MONC classic "Ravens".

Belgium based Boskat is a super-energetic duo that seamlessly blends seriously impressive riffs reminiscent of Rage Against The Machine and Billy Talent with a crushingly virtuosic live show and a great sense of humor. Now, it's time for their debut album 'Welcome to Planet Urmit,' set to release on March 15, 2024 on Suburban Records.

Although known for their energetic virtuoso rock duo performances, their first full-length album also explores various vibes and genres. "The goal was to create a record that doesn’t get boring - I think we succeeded! You can hear characteristics from (post)grunge, hip-hop, nu-metal, punk rock, prog rock… and more. There are Easter eggs for every rock fan!" frontman Vincent explains.

For a few years Leo Robinson was the sort of hidden secret you sometimes come across in local music scenes. First in Manchester and now in Glasgow, he’d pop up regularly on DIY bills or as local support to a touring act, quietly blowing them off stage with his rich baritone vocal and homespun lo-fi tales of folklore and animism. With The Temple – his debut on PRAH Recordings – he looks set to cross over from being a cult concern.

“There's a spectrum within the album between fully mythologising or symbolising my lived experience, and just stating it in very matter of fact terms - that push and pull between the need to abstract and the need to break through the abstraction and have an honest moment with oneself” he explains. “This is one of the themes of the album as well as part of the process. The aim was to take all these anecdotal or symbolic elements and merge them into one narrative and one world, in a way that you can find your way through the record as if it were a landscape or language with its own logic.”

The record takes on a pastoral, slightly baroque nature that Robinson partly attributes to a friend screening a lot of ‘70s BBC material in his book shop that they used to hang out at. There are also elements of jazz, flickering to life in “The Spring”’s piano-led finale and coda.

Thematically, Robinson likens it to a Jungian ‘Hero's Journey’, his voice possessing a character who goes through several defined stages of consciousness. From conception and the beginning of an earthly life, the first half of the album recognises the development of the protagonist’s narrative and identity, before “The Pink Light”’s freeform departure from the hitherto more song-based suite devastatingly shatters this. The second half of the album then sees the protagonist witness “the uncontainable” water; learning that true divinity lies not in the individual self or lofty notions of gods and temples, but in the unremarkable nettles, insects and dogs on the roadside riverbank - referenced on tracks “The Cormorant” and “The Spring”.

Although now residing north of the border, The Temple was written while Robinson was finding his feet in Manchester, having moved there to go to art school as a teenager (as a visual artist, he has exhibited at the Tiwani Contemporary in London and Cardiff’s Chapter Arts Centre). As a result, many of the tracks bear out the shadows of his experiences in the northern city – at their most visible and explicit on the beautifully fragile storytelling of “The Pavement”. Written the day after the Manchester Arena Bombings, it recalls Robinson waking up to go to work on a hot summer’s day to discover that his street had been blocked off for terrorism investigations; it then progresses through the rest of his day, amidst the grimly surreal aftermath of the previous night.

Having written the chords, melodies and lyrics to the album, Robinson fleshed out the tunes by scoring out parts for the additional instrumentation, but it was only when a friend sent a demo to PRAH that he was able to fund its full recording. Guitars, vocals, piano and French Horn (the latter recorded by Lauren Reeve-Rawlings) were put down at Green Door Studios in Glasgow. Microphones were placed around the room and the sound of the musicians stepping on creaky floorboards and opening creaky doors were left audible to further the record’s live feel. The harpsichord heard on “The Serpent”, meanwhile, came from University of Glasgow lecturer David McGuinness. Strings were then recorded at PRAH Studios by Francesca Ter-Berg and Raven Bush, the Social Singing Choir adding their choral vocals to “Temple II”.

The result is an album that feels both luscious and yet intimately raw; as grand as Richard Dawson at his most panoramic but containing the rough edges and skeletal looseness of a Calvin Johnson work. At times Robinson lyrically moves towards the surreal, but ultimately this is a record grounded in reality; a true showcase of Robinson’s skill as a lyricist and songwriter.

Inspiriert von Dantes epischer Reise durch die Neun Kreise der Hölle, führt das Album den Hörer auf eine ähnliche Entdeckungsreise. Die Kitchen Dwellers laden den Hörer ein, ihr Album als eine musikalische Reise ins Innere des eigenen Ichs zu betrachten.

Als Mark Shelton am 27. Juli 2018 im Alter von nur 60 Jahren nach einem Auftritt von Manilla Road beim Headbangers Open Air in Brande-Hörnerkirchen starb, war der Schock in der Heavy-Metal-Underground-Gemeinde groß. Die Band löste sich auf, während 2019 auf dem Keep It True Festival eine Manilla Road-Tribute-Show zu Ehren von Mark gefeiert wurde. Fünf lange Jahre hat es gedauert, bis sich die Ex-Manilla-Road-Mitglieder Bryan Patrick (Gesang), Phil Ross (Bass) und Andreas "Neudi" Neuderth (Schlagzeug) entschlossen haben, eine neue Band zu gründen und das Erbe der Epic-Metal-Meister fortzuführen. Sie werden von Kalli Coldsmith an der Gitarre unterstützt. Der Name der Band ist Sentry und sie unterschrieben direkt nach einem ersten Lebenszeichen - einer Zwei-Track-Promo-EP (mit "Heavensent" und "Black Candles") - bei High Roller Records. Als Mark Shelton am 27. Juli 2018 im Alter von nur 60 Jahren nach einem Auftritt von Manilla Road beim Headbangers Open Air in Brande-Hörnerkirchen starb, war der Schock in der Heavy-Metal-Underground-Gemeinde groß. Die Band löste sich auf, während 2019 auf dem Keep It True Festival eine Manilla Road-Tribute-Show zu Ehren von Mark gefeiert wurde. Fünf lange Jahre hat es gedauert, bis sich die Ex-Manilla-Road-Mitglieder Bryan Patrick (Gesang), Phil Ross (Bass) und Andreas "Neudi" Neuderth (Schlagzeug) entschlossen haben, eine neue Band zu gründen und das Erbe der Epic-Metal-Meister fortzuführen. Sie werden von Kalli Coldsmith an der Gitarre unterstützt. Der Name der Band ist Sentry und sie unterschrieben direkt nach einem ersten Lebenszeichen - einer Zwei-Track-Promo-EP (mit "Heavensent" und "Black Candles") - bei High Roller Records. Unter dem Pseudonym MARGOT ERKNER versammeln sich der als T.Raumschmiere bekannte Marco Haas, sowie Gitarrist und Sänger Timo Tolkmitt und Bassist Gunnar Refardt. T.Raumschmiere erlangte Weltruhm als Ravepunker mit großen Hits wie "Monster Truck Driver", Timo Tolkmitt kennt man von Bands wie DxBxSx, Blutige Knie oder Payola. Das junge Trio (geboren 2021 im Feuermelder, Berlin-Friedrichshain) knüpft an diese Erfolge nahtlos und zeitlos an. Was heißt zeitlos? Wohl eher Zeitgeist! Dean McPhee’s fifth full length album 'Astral Gold' sees the Yorkshire-based electric guitarist's music continue to evolve beyond the spacious folk-inspired fingerpicking that typified his earlier releases into a heavier sound combining deep bass, textured reverbs and waves of saturated delay. 'Astral Gold' brings together several now out-of-print tracks that were originally released on the Reverb Worship and Folklore Tapes labels, along with two brand new pieces – all recorded live in single takes. There is a cosmic theme throughout, including a track based on the local lore of The Ilkley Alien (The Second Message), a trance-inducing drone piece inspired by the orbit of the 'doomed moon' Triton (Neptune) and a meditation on lunar volcanism combining baroque melodies, EBow bass and found recordings of a crackling fire played through guitar pickups (Lunar Fire). Bristolian producer Claude Cooper returns with hot new single ‘Stay A While’, inspired by the vinyl discoveries made from months of digging and cataloguing the bulging inventory of Bedminster’s Friendly Records record shop.

‘Stay A While’ introduces some delightful twists to Cooper’s psychedelic-funk sound. Blurring the lines between sampling and performance, lush string flourishes are sliced with 6Ts girl-group vocals and rollicking piano chords resulting in a dreamy, end of night, lights up anthem in-the-making. The track is backed with the insistent ‘Dance Tonight’, a ragged bass-boogie surf-rocker that doesn’t take no for an answer.

Cooper’s irrepressible debut album ‘Myriad Sounds' (Jan ‘22) caught the attention of the UK's press and radio alike. Mojo's four star review described it as “Bristol’s beat scene backdrops late night jams”, Uncut enjoyed the "rugged psych-funk romp" and Louder than War declared "it’s vital and vibrant and exactly what we need to kick start the year”. BBC radio DJs including Cerys Matthews, Gideon Coe, Huw Stephens, Jamie Cullum, Lauren Laverne, Stuart Maconie, Tom Ravenscroft rinsed the singles, with Huey Morgan inviting Cooper to contribute a Block Party Mix for his show.

Bonus round 'More Myriad Sounds' (Apr ‘23) added Brooklyn vocalist Brain Fog to the melange with a bounty of pyretic vocal performances. DJ Mag called it “A fierce, kaleidoscopic trip” while Bandcamp Daily said “This album of cross-genre influences is as likely to get it included in any number of best-of columns, with the theme of serious fun as their common element”.

Behind the release is Friendly Records, the best little record shop in Bristol and now a burgeoning record label. Opened by Tom Friend on North Street in 2016, it’s gone on to become a hub of the local musical community. As well as Claude Cooper, the label has reissued two of Alison Cotton’s albums, 'The Twenty-Three Views' by outernational ambient jazz project Floating World Pictures, and Christian Madden & The Enemy Chorus’s organ heavy ‘The Extra Weight’.

Claude Cooper will return with a new album on Friendly Recordings this year.

Genesis' sixth studio album was released as a double album in November 1974 by Charisma Records and is the last to feature original frontman Peter Gabriel. The group's longest album to date, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway peaked at No. 10 on the U.K. Albums Chart and No. 41 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S..

The album is a concept album and tells the surreal story, devised by Gabriel, of a young Puerto Rican named Rael who embarks on a journey through a series of strange and bizarre events in New York City.

Musically, the album is a departure from the band's previous works, incorporating a wide range of styles including progressive rock, art rock, funk, and jazz fusion. The album features complex rhythms, intricate melodies, and dense layers of instrumentation, showcasing the band's virtuosic musicianship.

The album is notable for its use of storytelling, with each track contributing to the larger narrative of Rael's journey. The lyrics are often cryptic and abstract, and the album's surreal imagery has been interpreted in a variety of ways by listeners and critics.

The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway gained acclaim in the years after its release, reaching gold certification for sales in the U.K. and U.S.. In 1978, Nick Kent wrote for NME that it "had a compelling appeal that often transcended the hoary weightiness of the mammoth concept that held the equally mammoth four sides of vinyl together." In a special edition of Q and Mojo magazines titled Pink Floyd & The Story of Prog Rock, The Lamb ranked at No. 14 in its 40 Cosmic Rock Albums list. The album came third in a list of the 10 best concept albums by Uncut magazine, where it was described as an "impressionistic, intense album" and "pure theatre (in a good way) and still Gabriel's best work." A Rolling Stone poll to rank readers' favourite progressive rock albums of all time placed The Lamb fifth in the list.

The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway is widely regarded as one of Genesis's most important and influential works, inspiring generations of progressive rock musicians.

Social Limbo is the new album by OPEZ. A collection of eleven dreamy, rough, abundant instrumental songs which have the guts to subsist and survive the fluidity of our times. With his melodies Massi Amadori tells the nostalgia and melancholy of a lived, loved and consumed Italy.

Bevor DOOL im Frühjahr 2024 ihr drittes Album enthüllen, schenken die niederländischen Dark Rocker ihrer treuen Fangemeinde dieses beeindruckende Live-Dokument: "Visions of Summerland (Live at Arminius Church Rotterdam)" wirft ein strahlendes musikalisches Licht in eine Welt voller Dunkelheit.

Sowohl 2021 als auch 2022 schlossen die Veröffentlichungen von Dream Unending und Worm das Jahr bei 20 Buck Spin ab. Im Jahr 2023 erscheinen die beiden dem Untergang geweihten Titanen nun gemeinsam auf einer überragenden Veröffentlichung der kosmischen Dualität, "Starpath", um den Jahresend-Hattrick zu komplettieren.

Da beide Bands in den vergangenen zwei Jahren ein Hauptwerk nach dem anderen veröffentlicht haben, sind sie in der Fantasie der Fans untrennbar miteinander verbunden. Und obwohl sie musikalisch kaum weiter voneinander entfernt sein könnten, gibt es doch viele Gemeinsamkeiten in den Grundpfeilern. Und so beenden Dream Unending und Worm einmal mehr den 20 Buck Spin-Veröffentlichungsplan für das Jahr, dieses Mal zusammen.

Die neuesten Tracks von Dream Unending, "So Many Chances" und "If Not Now When", führen die Goth-/Post-Punk-Elemente, die in den früheren Veröffentlichungen vorhanden waren, logisch weiter und bauen auf ausgedehnte Gitarrenpassagen, nachdenklich-schweren Riffs und Justin DeTores donnerndem Gebrüll. Phil Swanson, der auf "Song of Salvation" als Gastsänger auftrat, kehrt hier wieder zurück. Diese beiden ausgedehnten Stücke stellen die bisher am besten ausgefeilte Inkarnation dessen dar, wohin Derrick Vella und Justin DeTore das Schiff steuern.

Worm, wie sie mittlerweile genannt werden, sind nach wie vor ein sich ständig wandelndes Gebilde aus purer, virtuoser Schwärze. "Ravensblood" bietet vampirischen Black Metal mit eisigen Keyboards und unheimlichen Friedhofsmelodien. Das schaurig-atmosphärische 'Midwinter Tears' beschwört eine schneebedeckte Gothic-Stimmung herauf, und das abschließende 'Sea of Sorrow' bringt das nekromantische Geschredder von Lead-Gitarrist Wroth Septentrion über Phantom Slaughter's eigenwilligem Black Doom und unsterblich spukenden Gruftbeschwörungen zum Ausdruck.

Zwei Bands, zwei einzigartige Ansätze, ein abgrundtiefes Lichtspektrum von strahlender, leidenschaftlicher Schöpfung bis hin zur abgrundtiefen Dunkelheit des Vergessens.
