MRAK unveils a six-track collection of new material. “This is a snapshot of my reality. Introducing a sharp and elegant but distinctive musical equation. On The Pledge, he presents six compositions, all bound to the Afterlife ethos. ‘The World‘ featuring vocalist braev. Sombre piano keys and urgent strings accompany energetic synth layers. ‘The Process works from a hypnotic low end, supporting a solid melody that increases in intensity as the track develops. For ‘Their Law ’MRAK teams up with David Lindmer, crafting an undulating track with captivating melodies and harmonies. With ‘Portal ’the realm of consciousness beckons us in, with a female vocal reverberating intermittently, complementing the dark bassline and bright synth lines. Penultimate track ‘The Flame features braev and Canadian vocalist Wasiu for a three-way collaboration steeped in emotion. It utilises a heartfelt vocal alongside a spoken-word segment, striking the balance between emotion and high energy. Lastly, MRAK collaborates with Omnya on the remix of ‘Never Ends’. Der visionäre südafrikanische Pianist, Komponist, Philosoph und Heiler Nduduzo Makhathini legt mit „uNomkhubulwane“ seinen elftes Studioalbum und insgesamt drittes auf Blue Note Records vor (nach „Modes of Communication: Letters From The Underworlds“ von 2020 und „In The Spirit Of Ntu“ von 2022).

Das tiefgründige Werk, das eine Hommage an die Zulu-Göttin uNomkhubulwane darstellt und die tragische Geschichte der Unterdrückung Afrikas erforscht, besteht aus drei Sätzen und präsentiert Makhathini in Triobesetzung mit Zwelakhe-Duma Bell le Pere am Bass und Francisco Mela am Schlagzeug.

Mit “Modes Of Communication: Letters From The Underworlds”, seinem Blue-Note-Debüt, wirbelte Makhathini vor zwei Jahren viel Staub auf. DownBeat kürte ihn zu einem der 25 Künstler, denen im
Jazz die Zukunft gehört. Auf “In The Spirit Of Ntu” zollt Makhathini nun mit einem Ensemble von jungen südafrikanischen Musikern seinen dezidierten Vorbildern John Coltrane, Bheki Mseleku, McCoy Tyner und Abdullah Ibrahim sowie seinen südafrikanischen Wurzeln Tribut.
