Mit einem ganz besonderen Glanzstück meldet sich die wiedervereinte NWOBHM Band MARQUIS DE SADE zurück. Bereits das Comeback-Album „Chapter II“ (Golden Core/ZYX) wurde flächendeckend abgefeiert, zumal das teils epische Songmaterial nicht nur für Metalheads, sondern auch für Fans von Bands wie Magnum von Interesse ist. Daraus resultierte, neben vielen Gigs in ihrer Heimat England, auch ein Slot beim prestigeträchtigen Keep It True Festival, bei dem sie durchweg überzeugen konnten. „Somewehere Up In The Mountains“, Seite A der raren Single von 1981, hat sich in den letzten Jahren als NWOBHM-Hit entpuppt. Er wurde von Bands wie Roxxcalibur oder Dragon´s Kiss gecovert und wird in sozialen Medien ständig geteilt. Die epische Ausrichtung des 1981 noch sehr basisch, ja primitiv aufgenommenen Song, lieferte die Idee, eine orchestrierte Version davon aufzunehmen, quasi als Update und Alternative zum Original. Das Ergebnis ist erstaunlich und zeigt, wie „groß“ der Song tatsächlich ist. Auch die einstige B-Seite, „Black Angel“, wesentlich härter als „Somewhere…“, funktioniert in diesem Soundgewand. Hier spielen Band und Orchester zusammen und nicht, wie so oft bei solchen Projekten, nebeneinander. Eine neue Version kann und soll kein Original ersetzen. Daher findet man auf der extended EP auch die beiden Originalversionen der hyperraren Single von 1981. Diese wurden von Patrick Engel restauriert und remastert.

The Southern Fold wurde 2014 in Kilkenny, Irland, von Sänger/Gitarrist/Songwriter Emlyn Holden gegründet. Die Band integriert Elemente aus Country, Blues und Gospel in einen Folk-/Roots-Sound und findet Einflüsse von so weit her wie Hank Williams, Nirvana und alles dazwischen. Holden griff mit zehn Jahren zum ersten Mal zur Gitarre, als er Elvis Presley hörte, und war in seinen frühen Teenagerjahren völlig in die alten Sun-Aufnahmen vertieft. Über die Roots-Rocker Creedence Clearwater Revival und den Punkrock schuf er sich eine vielseitige Inspirationsquelle. Die Entdeckung der Alt-Country-Pioniere Uncle Tupelo und Wilco brachte Country zurück in sein Songwriting und führte ihn auf den Weg zu The Southern Fold. Ursprünglich als Duo im Stil von Gram Parsons/Emmylou Harris gestartet, enthielt die erste EP der Band - "A True Ascension from the Wayward Path" aus dem Jahr 2016 - fünf eigene Songs sowie ein Cover von "Where Did You Sleep Last Night". Es war eine reduzierte Folk-Country-Nummer, gepaart mit sehr persönlichen Texten und zusätzlicher Instrumentierung durch Klavier, Cello und E-Gitarre. Es folgten einige Jahre intensiver Konzerttätigkeit, und bis zum Erscheinen des Albums "Bible Fear"s" im Jahr 2019 hatte sich die Band zu einer vollständigen fünfköpfigen Band entwickelt, die einen eher Folk-Rock-orientierten Sound hervorbrachte. In dieser Post-Covid-Zeit erlebten wir den Aufstieg der Southern Fold aus der Asche mit einigen neuen Singles ("Nothing to Fear" und "Before the Fall"), die 2024 im Eigenverlag veröffentlicht wurden. Zu Holden in einer neuen Live-Besetzung gesellen sich der ehemalige Blackbird & Crow-Gitarrist Stephen Doohan, die aus Mauritius stammende Madeline Leclezio am Gesang, der kanadische Schlagzeuger Gregor Beresford und der ehemalige Midnight Union Band-Bassist Brian McGrath. Diese Kernbesetzung spielte einige äußerst gut aufgenommene Konzerte bei den Kilkenny Roots 2024, im Whelan"s, Dublin mit den Frank and Walters und bei der britischen Ramblin" Roots Revue im April 2025.

Lindenbergs 20. Studio Album ist ein Paradebeispiel für seinen typischen Humor: Von Sündenknall, der biblischen Schöpfungsgeschichte im Lindenberg-Stil über Smog-Rock bis hin zu Samenbank, über ein gesperrtes Konto an besagtem Ort.

Sündenknall bietet seinen Fans alles, was sie an Udo zu schätzen wissen. Ein cleveres Gesamtwerk aus Humor, intelligenten Texten und bewegenden, zeitlosen und teilweise komischen Balladen, wie Lover Man oder Helmut Owiewohl, ein Lied über den damaligen Bundeskanzler Kohl als Sexidol.

Das Album produzierte er selbst zusammen mit Dave King, der schon mit großen Namen wie Peter Maffay und Billy Cobham arbeitete. Co-produced wurde das Album auch von Jim Voxx. Als guter Freund von Lemmy Kilmister und Produzent unter anderem für Motörhead schafft er mit Udo zusammen den genialen Rock-Sound im typischen Stil der 80er.

Am 27.06.2025 erscheint die Jubiläumsversion von Sündenknall in zitronengelbem Vinyl in einer streng limitierten, handnummerierten Auflage von nur 1.500 Exemplaren. Um das 40. Jubiläum gebührend zu feiern, wird das Album zudem als CD nachaufgelegt.

This is one of the most obscure singles ever released in Venezuela in the 60s. It followed the global triumph of The Beatles that made the wave of beat groups get bigger and bigger and lots of new bands emerged, some of which would last while others would definitively go into oblivion, and a small number of them would leave at least one recording that today is considered a highly valuable collector's item. This is the case of The Pets. The band's only album, released in 1967, shows perfectly what the influences of the Venezuelan nueva ola (new wave) scene were at the time, including versions of The Doors, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Paul Revere & The Riders_ as well as the outstanding original 'El entierro de un hombre rico que murió de hambre', one of the finest garage tunes to emerge from Latin America that was also released as a 7" single. Their stunning take on The Doors' 'Hello, I Love You' takes the B side of this mega scarce 45. A garage DJs favorite! First time 45 reissue, audios remastered from the original master tapes.

Named after a (US) West Coast grocery store chain, The Whitefronts started out in 1982 as a quartet of art and theater students attending UCSB. The band quickly mutated into a sextet. In 1984, they moved north to establish themselves as part of the SF DIY culture. Live shows usually consisted of open jams drawing from what the band was obsessing about at the time—free jazz, The Velvet Underground, Caribbean music, improv noise—as well as their own unheralded genres that popped in and out of existence like subatomic particles. Shows with local bands like Slovenly, Camper Van Beethoven, Caroliner Rainbow, Vomit Launch, Barnacle Choir and Barbara Manning provide some context as to their eccentric position within the indie scene of the era.

In 1985, the band released their sole LP, Roast Belief, on their own Bogden label. This was an ambitious attempt to document the various ideas that were happening live. Though practically unknown today, it’s an extraordinary record—a mid-80s classic serving up eclectic derangement on a par with contemporaries like the Butthole Surfers, Meat Puppets, Sun City Girls, Tuxedomoon and Eugene Chadbourne.
The Mamo Waves LP was compiled from recordings made between 1982-1987. As with Roast Belief LP, it’s a mind-melting jumble of the genres explored by Whitefronts throughout their existence. It was originally supposed to be released by Camper Van’s Pitch-A-Tent imprint, as a couple of WF members were touring with CBV in 1987, but the release fell through the cracks when CBV was airlifted to Virgin Records in 1988. Today, it’s clear that Mamo Waves belongs to the same 1980s Californian sub-underground aesthetic that nurtured mythical 80s bands like Departmentstore Santas and Prominent Disturbance. It’s a real WTF m.o. that still sounds like the future.

Es handelt sich um ein fesselndes, manchmal eindringliches Quasi-Konzeptalbum, das von schonungsloser tragikomischer Läuterung und erhabener, komplexer Melodik geprägt ist und lyrische Drehbücher mit schillernden Arrangements verbindet. A Sober Conversation folgt auf Christinzios Album aus dem Jahr 2023, das von der Kritik gefeierte The Last Rotation Of Earth (sein erstes Top-40-Album), ein Album, das sich um die quälende Trennung von seiner langjährigen Beziehung dreht. Prism Shores are Montreal janglers with one foot planted in ramshackle C86-indebted indie pop and the other in the shimmer of early English shoegaze. While their sound is reminiscent of perennial genre reference points (Sarah, Creation, Flying Nun), the band leaves their own idiosyncratic stamp. Out From Underneath, their new record due out January 17, 2025, on Meritorio Records, tackles young adult ennui and the adjustment of settling in an unfamiliar city, its lyrics dealing with the growing pains experienced during a time of upheaval. It is contemplative and chock-full of emotional depth; a nighttime album that channels self-reflexive melancholy into some form of catharsis.

I could now write a load of blown up puffery about how amazing this is, but everyone does that, and a lot of the time it’s all a load of bollocks. But basically this was sent to me by Karin / John when I asked if they had anything hanging about that had not been released. This came through and blew my tiny mind. Like something from prime Annette Peacock “Pony” period. Here is what John Surman said…

John Surman writes:

Back in 2012/13 there had been some talk about a big futuristic open air urban dance/theatre production for about 80/100 actors/dancers with lasers and all kinds of lighting effects on different stages. I was invited to get involved and, together with Ben and Karin, we eventually decided to get to work on some ideas. I think that the original plan was that in performance there would be a mixture of live music and electronica.

Not altogether surprisingly, bearing in mind the complexity of the project, it never moved forward and developed into anything more than an interesting idea. It was probably over ambitious & I guess the funding never came through.

The only information I that I can find relating to the production refers to two silent movies made in 1927/1928 by the filmmaker Eugene Deslaw, entitled `La Marche Des Machines´ and `Les Nuits Électriques.These were clearly intended to act as inspiration for the project.

After months turned into years it became obvious that the project was going nowhere, and so the recorded music laid around gathering dust until Johnny Trunk asked Karin if she had any interesting music that he might be interested in releasing. One thing led to another and so, finally, Electric Element found a home!

For anyone interested in the equipment used this will have to be an approximation since the memory might be playing tricks. Karin was probably using a Yamaha Rex50 f/x unit, a Roland VT-3 Voice Transformer and an Oberheim Ring Modulator. I was playing Bass Clarinet and Contrabass Clarinet through various f/x units together with a Yamaha WX5 wind synth. All the instruments and voice were also processed through Ben´s equipment. After writing this I asked Ben for his recollections and he came up with the following:

John, Karin and I created this music in 2 or 3 days in the winter of 2013 at their studio in Oslo, Norway. I followed up with another 2 or 3 days of mixing, editing and post-processing . We kept a collaborative, improvisational and free-form approach to the sessions. I grew up immersed in music such as Cloudline Blue, the 1979 duo album of Krog/Surman, and this felt like a similar approach. I have mixed sound for many of their live duo concerts and I would use effects and electronics as an

accompaniment and counterpoint to the performed music. The relation of organic and artificial sound sources in music has always fascinated. In this case, I used some contemporary digital signal processing to introduce my own aesthetic into the conversation, in particular using granular synthesis to recombine small 'clouds' of sound into alternate forms. Some of the software tools I used included Ableton Live, Max/MSP and Reaktor.

“Ti Ho Sposato Per Allegria” (1967) is a comedy directed by Luciano Salce, taken from the theatrical play of the same name (1965) by Natalia Ginzburg. The main characters are Pietro and Giuliana, respectively interpreted by Giorgio Albertazzi and Monica Vitti. A lawyer from a good family, serious, accustomed to a calm and regular life who got married to a indolent and dazed girl with a difficult past a month after meeting her at a party. Despite Giuliana's inability to transform herself into a good housewife, his relationship with Pietro continues to flourish, because he seems to find enjoyment in each of his wife's many mistakes. The reason for their union lies not in love but, perhaps, in a genuine sympathy, as strong as it is mutual. The story has become a minor classic with each new representation. On both stage and screen the themes of everyday life, and the more complex and existential ones, are addressed. The subtle irony of the work relies on recounting problematic events in a carefree tone: realities such as abortion, death, separation and the couple's incommunicability are underplayed with naturalness. The funny events of the film are commented on by Piero Piccioni's music, published for the first time on vinyl by Musica Per Immagini, with an harmonious tracklist. For this first orchestra rehearsal with the director, which will be followed by other important soundtracks, the composer makes an effective and elegant synthesis: on the one hand he reworks moods and aesthetic intuitions of some previous and happy experiences, while on the other he identifies and anticipates the first bars of that unmistakable sound between bossa nova, funk and lounge nuances that will characterize almost all the production of the Seventies. In fact, the Turin-native artist simplifies in a positive sense the articulated harmonic structures that have always distinguished his authorial figure – where the so called jazz features are to be considered more than central in the musical texture, as prominent elements of the harmonic syntax – and he tries a melodic reduction that will make the compositions more catchy or memorized, but not easier for this. Lightness of spirit and rarefied elegance are the keys of this new Dionysian world.

The instantly recognisable, original version of the classic and much covered 'E Isso Ai'. Beautiful laid back samba/MPB, drenched in horns and percussion.

This is the second time the hugely prolific Doris Monteiro has featured in our Brazil 45's series; previously with 'Se Vocé Quiser Mas Sem Bronquear' on number 9.

Debut single from forthcoming full length out in May 2019. The first time we heard Bobby Oroza, it was his slow moody ballad 'This Love', that perked the world's ears and made a name for the dapper crooner that calls Finland his home. Since it's release, 'This Love' has become somewhat of an underground hit, the soundtrack to car shows and swap meets in the West Coast, numerous movies and TV shows, and it even made it to Earl Sweatshirt's most recent mixtape. This new single from Bobby Oroza picks up the tempo and showcases another side of his range with a record sure to move bodies and nod heads. The A side 'Your Love Is Too Cold' is a stomper that blends the groovy soul drumming of early Motown records with guitar that could have been lifted from a James Bond

soundtrack. Bobby pleads over the track of his decision to call it quits and keep it quits. The B side 'Deja Vu' finds Oroza leaning again into the B side ballad stylings that made him a name to check for. Heavy duty drums lay down the canvas on which Bobby's vocals paint the picture of a relationship that has come to a fork in the road. The Cold Diamond & Mink production and backing band are tight as ever and this is sure to be another classic with the slowie fans.

The Nigerian princesses of afro-funk arrived on the international scene with 1976’s Danger and never looked back. Produced by multi-instrumentalist Adeniyi “Biddy” Wright, the six-song LP is a low-slung affair, awash in dreamy psychedelic guitar, crisp hi-hat shuffles, and telepathic harmony vocals from twins Taiwo and Kehinde. This 2025 remaster is housed in a deluxe tip-on jacket and includes lyrics in both Yorurban and English. Danger, danger, danger please come on back.

Denn die sparsamen, sanften Klavierstücke haben mehr mit Erik Satie, Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guébrou und den "Marginalia"-Veröffentlichungen von Masakatsu Takagi gemeinsam als mit einem gemütlichen Date-Abend bei Kerzenschein. Doch in dieser Frechheit liegt eine verborgene Absicht: In dem wunderschönen Set wird "Romantik" in einem eher klassischen Sinne suggeriert, was die Deutschen als Waldeinsamkeit bezeichnen. Die Kompositionen beschwören die erhabenen Themen der romantischen Dichter herauf: Einsamkeit in der Natur, die Fähigkeit der Natur zu heilen und zu lehren, ein Gefühl von zufriedener Melancholie. "Ich wollte Musik machen, die nützlich ist", sagt Margaret und untertreibt damit gewaltig die Kraft der Platte. Romantic Piano ist neugierig, beruhigend, geduldig und unglaublich bewegend - aber es verweilt nicht länger als eine Sekunde. Margarets Debütalbum There's Always Glimmer war ein lyrisches Wunderwerk, aber als sie wegen einer Krankheit auf Tournee nicht mehr singen konnte, nahm sie ihr Ambient-Album "Mia Gargaret" (ein weiterer frecher Titel!) auf, das ein feines Gespür für Arrangement und Komposition zeigte, das bei den lyrischen Songs von There's Always Glimmer nicht voll zum Tragen kam. Auch Romantic Piano kommt fast ganz ohne Worte aus. "Das Schreiben von Instrumentalmusik ist im Allgemeinen ein viel freudigerer Prozess als das Schreiben von Lyrics und wirkt sich letztlich auf mein Songwriting aus.", sagt sie. Romantic Piano festigt sie als kompositorische Kraft. Ursprünglich hatte Margaret einen Abschluss in Komposition angestrebt, brach die Musikschule aber auf halbem Weg ab. "Ich wollte wirklich nicht in einem Orchester spielen", sagt sie über ihre Entscheidung, "ich wollte eigentlich nur Filmmusik schreiben. Dann begann ich, mich mehr und mehr darauf zu konzentrieren, eine Songschreiberin zu sein." Romantic Piano berührt in der Tat ein seltenes Gefühl in der Kunst, das oft nur dem Kino vorbehalten ist - die gleichzeitige Ehrfurcht vor dem Dasein mit der großen Linse und der intime innere Monolog nach der Sprache, wenn wir in unseren Schädeln festsitzen. Hackney Electronica come to Dark Entries with the Synaptic Shadows EP, featuring 5 cuts of acidic rave-inflected wave. Quinn Whalley (Paranoid London), Unai Trotti (Cartulis Music), and Margo Broom (Hermitage Working Studios) formed Hackney Electronica during COVID era. Trotti and Whalley were spending countless hours digging through records and making music during lockdown. As their sound took shape - heavy and hypnotic - they invited Broom to join, cementing the motley trio. Last Year at Marienbad proudly welcomes French producer DJ Psychiatre, aka Sylvain Creton, known for his dynamic and evolving approach to house music. His style blends acid-infused grooves, soft rhythmic atmospheres, and disco-driven energy, earning him releases on renowned labels like Whyte Numbers, Lost Palms, and Shall Not Fade.

His latest EP, Moving Into Jazz, showcases his signature sound with four diverse tracks. The title track starts with delicate keys before building into a rich, atmospheric house piece with acid elements. Those DJs follows with a stepping drum pattern, deep bass, and sweeping chords, reinforcing his intricate rhythmic focus. On the B-side, Iced Lemon introduces clean arpeggios and euphoric pads, culminating in a powerful progression. Closing the EP, A Trance to Remember delivers an uplifting, energetic groove with a deep bassline and engaging vocal snippets. This EP highlights DJ Psychiatre’s ability to craft immersive, melodically rich music that resonates beyond the dancefloor. Senselessness 1/2 is the very first solo issue of the Swiss electronic composer Robin Félix, on his own label De l’Aube (Of Dawn), the occasion for him to prove that field recordings can be (or should be?) an integral part of the global matter, when so often they are just something hovering in the background because it’s “nice” or reminds the artist of a place he loves.

Throughout the length of these four tracks, they are litterally central; moreover, they are electronically transformed, manipulated, skewed and twisted in order to form some sort of framework, a backbone on to which sounds and genres intertwine. On Cluster, violins and cellos (recorded in the gardens of the Venice Biennale) are soon transmuted into the abrasions of the electroacoustic realm, until the pulse of a relentless bass introduces a pure and pristine electronic music that knows and uses the roots of dub, drum’n’bass and the meticulousness of Jan Jelinek’s Glitch aesthetics. A tad “housy”, Chi comes as a second pulse where a modified didgeridoo and African percussions (recorded in a Swiss forest) lead the listener to a sort of tribal mode, as suited to dancers than to those who prefer inner journeys; here, the spatial dub of King Tubby moves from background to foreground.

The more abstract Boiler verges on the IDM and the heady, elegant and spartan Detroit techno – headphones reveal its numerous minute and delicate details. Based on the recording of insects, of which one can hear the actual rubbing of elytras, the closing Swarm ends the record with and intricate blend of ambient, which in some way winks to the Aphex Twin and The Future Sound Of London. Overall Senselessness 1/2 is a mesmerising and concise update of the famous Deutsche elektronische musik of old, that gathered on its way the other genres that made Robin Félix tick. Since field recordings have hardly been that meaningful, one wonders where Senselessness 2/2 will lead us to

-Remaster 2025, CD enthält einen Live-Bonustrack Bloodrunner aus Illinois, USA, gründeten sich 2004, als Thrash Metal nicht gerade ein angesagtes Subgenre war. Besonders in den USA waren traditionelle Spielarten, ganz im Gegensatz zu heute, zum tiefsten Undergrounddasein verdammt. Nur die bereits etablierten Bands wie Anthrax ode Slayer, die allerdings auch mit modernen Einflüssen kokettiert haben, konnten für Aufmerksamkeit sorgen. Doch das war den frisch gebackenen Bloodrunner egal. Sie wollten ihre Lieblingsmusik spielen und wilde Parties feiern!

Nach einem Demo im Jahr 2007, erschien 2008 dann das bisher einzige Album „Total Annihilation“, welches an purer Spielfreude nicht zu überbieten ist. Die weniger perfekten Momente werden durch eine ungebändigte Energie wettgemacht, die im Heavy Metal mehr wert ist, als routiniertes Performen. Trotzdem haben die damals noch sehr jungen Musiker bereits ansehnlich Skills gehabt und verstehe ihr Handwerk. Das gilt auch für das Songwriting, welches nich nur auf durchgehendes Thrash-Geballer setzt, sondern auch auf Abwechslung. Somit ist das Album nicht nur für ThrashFanatiker geeignet. Die organisch klingende, aber dennoch fette Produktion, passt wie die Faust aufs Auge und zeigt, was bei aktuellen Alben in diesem Genre oft fehlt: Klangliche Authentizität! Es wurde damals nur als gebrannte CDR und digital veröffentlicht!

For All The World, the black watch's twenty-fifth (and first double) album is a darkly poppy, brightly moody, many-splendored take on a number of the great themes: Death and Sex, Memory and Lament and Hope and Love. And it is, arguably, this heralded Los Angeles band's most sonically ambitious and moving record yet, since front man/novelist/ex-English professor John Andrew Fredrick formed the group in 1988 in Santa Barbara after he'd seen a London-by-way-of-Canada band called The Lucy Show play to twelve-or-so people in his hometown.

Having recorded 2024's Weird Rooms with producer Misha Bullock and Fredrick's son Chandler at Bullock's studio in Austin, TX, the TBW founder was keen to repeat the experience with, he says, more straightforward, classic psych/jangle/shoegaze songs. The result, though artistically satisfying, spurred a yen in John to write more songs as a sort of reaction against the batch he'd carried with him from LA to Texas. "We had such a productive time recording ‘Weird Rooms’ that I wanted to repeat the experience... without repeating the experience. And once it was over and I left Misha to do what he pleased with respect to mixing and overdubbing, all I could think was 'I need to write another album now.'" So Fredrick brought longstanding producer/engineer and TBW-associate Scott Campbell (Stevie Nicks, Acetone) along this time to help out with engineering and good cheer.

Fredrick, who has been "accused" of being "astonishingly prolific," learned that bandmate Andy Creighton had recently become unemployed, seized the opportunity to have yet another multi-instrumentalist flesh out the new songs he quickly wrote after he came back from Austin. “Achilles Past,” the first single, is in fact a song that John wrote when the production team thought the album was done—and the front man avers that it’s often the case that a very strong song comes to him, as it were, in the eleventh hour. The same could be said for “Listen You Wait”—another number that came late to the Austin sessions.

Nevertheless, the recording of the first half of For All The World has Creighton's signature indelibly stamped on it - especially on such tracks as “Fainting” and “Surely You Rally”- just as the latter half highlights Bullock's formidable talents. "They're both not just brilliant musicians and they understand my aesthetic and bring their own sensibilities to bear on my stuff. Our respective tastes meet in, you guessed it, The Beatles' realm - the great shadow that hangs over all I do, at least."

"There's A Place," the final song on side two, serves in fact as a distinct homage that's been a long time coming for a band that included a cover of "It's All Too Much" as a bonus track and that release a quite punkish, uptempo version of "Eleanor Rigby" on a 7".
