The Codex Necro is the first studio album by British extreme metal band and Metal Blade Records recording artist Anaal Nathrakh. It was originally released on 22 November 2001, and is now available again as 2021 Vinyl pressings and CD.

Virginia/North Carolina-based cult Loincloth reveal details of the upcoming LP, Psalm Of The Morbid Whore. This marks their second and final full-length release, again via the masters of heavy, Southern Lord Recordings.

Named after the tendency to impose familiar likenesses, such as faces, on random - usually inanimate - objects, Pareidolia is Jake Muir's way of interpreting the consonances between so-called “ambient” music and extreme heavy metal. Extracting the headiest, most atmospheric sections from hundreds of death metal and black metal tracks, Muir plays the role of both DJ and electroacoustic composer, concocting a lysergic elixir of fractal distortions and prolonged, decelerated riffs that slowly evaporates into iridescent vapor. If there's any trace of the original sources left, Muir makes sure that residue is subtly bewildering, like clouds in the sky that form imposing, larger than life images, or trampled bracken that falls into the shape of “trve kvlt” insignia.

The idea for the album materialized when Muir was working on 2022's Talisman, his collaborative album with multi-instrumentalist Evan Caminiti. Processing guitar for the first time, Muir began to unpack his long relationship with rock music and its Escher-like maze of sub-genres, from the tech metal he obsessed over as a teenager to Loop and Main's drone-y, textured variants. Scraping the internet for unconventional contemporary metal albums, he stumbled across music that seemed to hover between different realms, merging its frenetic, noisy sections with psychedelic interludes that harmonize with classic industrial and avant-garde music, material like :zoviet*france:, Nocturnal Emissions and Z'EV.

Necropalace ist eine düstere, doomlastige Reise ins Schreckliche und Romantische, heraufbeschworen vom sich ständig weiterentwickelnden vampirischen Wesen WORM. Kreator, Destruction und Sodom. Allesamt teutonische Thrash-Metal-Legenden. Doch wer kennt heutzutage noch eine Band wie Necronomicon? Dabei hätte alles ganz anders kommen können. Anstatt bei Noise, Steamhammer oder Roadrunner landeten Necronomicon bei Wave Records (einem obskuren Unterlabel von Gama Records). Ihre Debüt-LP war bereits 1984 im Kasten, erschien aufgrund von Labelproblemen aber erst ganze zwei Jahre später. Auch heute zählt »Necronomicon« (jetzt über High Roller Records als CD und Vinyl wiederveröffentlicht) noch immer zu den besten deutschen Thrash-Metal-Platten aller Zeiten. Mit Stücken wie “Possessed by Evil”, “Bloody Revenge” oder “Blind Destruction”, ist und bleibt das erste Album von 1986 ein wahrer Klassiker!

Dass es jede Menge deutsche Thrash-Legenden gibt ist ja nun kein Geheimnis ... Aber statt sich immer nur die alten Standards reinzutun, sollte man sich lieber mal mit einer Underground-Perle beschäftigen, die der eine oder andere von euch kennen sollte: Necronomicon! Noch nie gehört? Tja... Das Leben als Thrasher hätte so schön sein können, wenn...ja, wenn Necronomicon Mitte der 80er nicht so ein Pech mit ihrem Label Scratchcore gehabt hätten... „Apocalyptic Nightmare“ von 1987 wurde hierzulande erstmal großflächig und schändlich ignoriert. In den Staaten, in Südamerika und in allen Skandinavischen Ländern wurde das zweite Album der Baden-Württemberger dagegen mächtig abgefeiert – und dass man in diesen Ländern was von guter Musik versteht, ist ja wohl klar. Sänger Freddy braucht den Vergleich mit Destructions Schmier nicht zu scheuen, und der Gitarrensound auf „Apocalyptic Nightmare“ ist schon des Öfteren mit den frühen Celtic Frost verglichen worden. Während ein kleines, obskures Label Necronomicon damals den Start versaut hat, werden High Roller Records es besser machen – und zwar mit der Deluxe-Re-Edition von „Apocalyptic Nightmare“! Mit dem Signing bei High Roller geht für die Band endlich eine echte Odyssee zu Ende!

Black & White Swirl Vinyl. Mit ihren Wurzeln fest in der Punkrock- und Hardcore-Szene des Cass Corridor in Detroit der frühen 80er Jahre verankert, erreichten John Brannon (Negative Approach) und Larissa Strickland (L-7) zuerst zusammen mit der eingespielten Rhythmusgruppe aus Kevin Strickland und Jim Kimball, und nachdem Kevin und Jim die Band verlassen hatten (um Mule zu gründen) mit Ron Sakowski (Necros) am Bass und Todd Swalla (Necros) am Schlagzeug, eine ganz neue Ebene. Inspiriert von The Birthday Party und den Stooges der Funhouse-Ära sowie frühen Blues- und Jazzkünstlern, waren die Laughing Hyenas ein heftiger, schwefeliger Noise-Knaller. Die düsteren und hypnotischen Bassriffs und der Tribal-Swing bildeten den perfekten Rahmen für Larissas (sie hatte erst ein paar Monate vor der Gründung der Band angefangen, Gitarre zu spielen) schneidendes, zerklüftetes, ja fast schon mörderisches Gitarrenspiel und John Brannons teuflisches Heulen. Wenn es eine Band gibt, die eine LP mit Live-Material verdient hat, dann sind es die Laughing Hyenas. Wie Aaron Dilloway es so schön gesagt hat: "Die Laughing Hyenas waren die gruseligste Band, die ich je gesehen habe." Dieses Set wurde von John Brannon sorgfältig aus seinem persönlichen Archiv an Kassetten zusammengestellt. Die Aufnahmen wurden von Bobby Emmett übertragen, gemischt und gemastert, bekannt für seine Arbeit mit The Sights, Sturgill Simpson und zuletzt Jack White.

Across twelve tracks and 36 minutes, the band delivers a visceral strike of raw, uncompromising metal - free of gloss, gimmicks and nonsense. Naglet til livet is a kaleidoscope of destruction, decay, and ugliness, the band states. From the thrash-fueled chaos of "Grovt skadeverk" and the suffocating aggression of "Parasitt", to the punk-driven decay of "Rennestein" and the gloomy introspectiveness of "Svikter den neste", this is the sound of filth, concrete, ruin, and rage. Twelve tracks of in-your-face, riff-driven and organic metal. Jordsjuk consists of Renton (drums), Mannevond (vocals), Sagstad (guitars), and Larsen (bass) - seasoned musicians from the Norwegian underground. Their sound sits somewhere between black, death, thrash, punk, and rock, forging a sonic identity as raw as it is deliberate. The lyrics, written in Norwegian, dive into personal collapse, trauma, and apocalyptic despair, delivered with uncompromising honesty. Drums were recorded at PhatCat Studios (Rygge, Norway), with the rest captured at various locations in Oslo. Mixing was handled by Kurt Ballou (Converge) at God City Studios (Salem, MA), while Brad Boatright took care of mastering at Audiosiege Studio (Portland, OR). The result is exactly what it needs to be: dirty, sharp, and heavy. Jordsjuk is necro music for necro times, says the band, and after hearing Naglet til livet, it's hard to disagree. The band were booked to by:Larm festival and Midgardsblot in 2025, and it's on stage that their sonic violence truly takes over. For those who've seen them live, expectations are high. Zum ersten Mal überhaupt ist eine anzügliche Auswahl von EDGE OF SANITYs obskuren, frühesten Aufnahmen offiziell auf 2LP (23 Tracks) Unter dem Titel "Elegy - Chapter I" wurden die frühen (Promo-, Pro-be- oder Studio-) Demos "Euthanasia" (1989), "The Immortal Rehearsals" (1990), "kur-nu-gi-a" (1990), "The Dead" (1990) und "Dead But Dreaming" (1991) von Songwriter/Frontmann/Produzent Dan Swanö (Opeth, Dissection, Bloodbath) vom Friedhof in die Leichenhalle zur Wiederbelebung gebracht. Alle fünf Demos wurden von Swanö neu gemastert, wobei die 13 Tracks von "Euthanasia", "kur-nu-gi-a" und "The Dead" für die Bonus-Disc auch nekromantische Remixe erhalten haben. Ausgestattet mit einem brandneuen, handgezeichneten Cover des Künstlers Mark Rudolph (Carcass, Undeath), ist "Elegy - Chapter I" von der alten Garde für alle Wachen zum Wiedererleben oder Neuentdecken. EDGE OF SANITY waren nicht immer an der Spitze des Death Metal. Nein, auf "Elegy - Chapter I" haben die Schweden tatsächlich Death Metal geblutet.
