In der jüngeren Vergangenheit haben wir uns dann dazu entschlossen, die Arbeiten abzuschließen, weil das Material viel Potenzial hat. Die aktuelle Besetzung hat neuen Enthusiasmus in die Sache hereingebracht, was letztendlich zu einem vollständigen Release geführt hat.” Und was für ein Debütalbum Vigilhunter da gelungen ist! Kompositionen wie “Disconnected”, “Titan Glory” oder “Sacrifice” sind einige der besten Songs, die Queensryche nie geschrieben haben. Alexx Panza fühlt sich geschmeichelt: “Ich nehme das als ein großes Kompliment. Natürlich sind wir stark von Queensryche beeinflusst, aber wir könnten niemals zu 100% Songs schreiben, die sich anhören wie sie – so etwas ist ein Ding der Unmöglichkeit. Dieses Projekt zeichnet sich durch mannigfaltige Einflüsse aus, stilistisch lässt es sich nicht auf eine bestimmte Band herunter brechen. Es liegt uns fern, das Rad neu erfinden zu wollen, aber ich denke schon, dass wir als Band eine eigene Identität besitzen. Ich kann jedenfalls sagen, dass eine Menge Arbeit in die Platte eingeflossen ist und wir mit dem Endresultat äußerst zufrieden sind. Ich kann es kaum erwarten zu sehen, wie die Platte dort draußen ankommt. Ich denke allerdings, dass alle Anhänger des originalen US Power Metal viel Gefallen an dem Album finden werden.” Davon ist stark auszugehen, denn neben Queensryche schwingen bei Vigilhunter auch noch ein wenig Crimson Glory und frühe Fates Warning mit. Alexx Panza lacht: “Damit hast du die Referenzpunkte ziemlich genau erkannt. Das ist genau der Sound und die Atmosphäre, die wir einfangen möchten. Dazu noch ein Schuss Savatage und Vicious Rumors. Manchmal kommen allerdings auch Songideen aus Bereichen, mit denen man nicht gerechnet hätte.”

Straight outta Montreal, Canada, Spleen is a one supergroup featuring members of local royalties such as punk bands Béton Armé and Puffer and black metal acts Conifère and Vespéral.

Formed in 2022 and taking their name from Paris Spleen by Charles Baudelaire, they released their first cassette on Roachleg Records in 2023 delivering five post-punk cuts inspired by the colder aspect of french bands like Camera Silens, DEM and later-era Blitz.

Having added a new, sixth member on synthesizer, their second demo was released on Roachleg again just one month ago, taking on new influences from 60’s and 80’s psych garage rock and developing a unique sound not easily categorizable.

Not unlike the latest Duke of Oi! EP by Criminal, picture French skankin’ punk rockers from the 80s (I’m thinking Identité X) meeting somewhere cold with the California dreamers from the Paisley Underground (The Dream Syndicate, of course) and you’ll get the vibe.

And if you think this is odd for people playing also in Oi and BM groups just remember that Blitz first covered Lou Reed’s Vicious back in 1982 so you should not be surprised.

With everything just said we simply couldn’t back out of pressing both EPs on one tasty 12” vinyl compilation, one demo per side, with new sci-fi-influenced artwork by the band’s own Dan and Mathias.

"Isolation Boulevard" ist eine Sammlung von 12 Re-Recordings Instore: 28.03.2025 aus dem umfangreichen Fundus an Sweet-Klassikern. Die Aufnahmen entstanden – wie vom Albumtitel bereits angedeutet – 2020 während der Corona-Pandemie. Vor diesem Hintergrund ist die Gesamtleistung aller Beteiligten umso beeindruckender, vom treibenden Schlagzeug und Bass bis hin zu den “in your face“- Gitarren und dem stratosphärischen Gesang. Obwohl das Album unter schwierigen Bedingungen entstand, war es für alle Beteiligten ein Vergnügen einzuspielen. Das Resultat spricht für sich.

“Onde” is a story about continuous change, in which the sea resonates everywhere, from the gentle movement that can lull before it transforms into a tidal wave that destroys, making a clean sweep. It holds within itself numerous metaphors and multiple states of mind that, like sea waves, can take on thousands of forms.
While all water moves, changing shape and force, each song lets sounds pass through it within a sea of frequencies in which Cristiano della Monica's percussion and Ernesto Nobili's guitars guarantee Maria Mazzotta's song the possibility to navigate onward. The voice shoves off and sets sail, allowing itself to be hurled far away, sinking before returning to the surface and, finally, finding rest. For the three musicians who, from Lecce and Naples, have always had the sea in their minds and eyes, this album tells the story of the movement of the sea, from the torment that navigating it entails to the relief that, in the end, each landing offers.

The first release revives Connective Zone's Palm Palm, a millennium-era cult classic and Ben UFO favourite that first came out on Mark Broom and Dave Hill's Unexplored Beats in 2001. Now, this long-out-of-print, expensive and hard to find gem has been remastered by Jamie Anderson and so sounds superb with many lavish electronic layers, richly emotive melodies and dynamic drums that lean on UK techno, IDM, and deep electro. Sounds as good now as it ever did.

Drummer Helen Wells is Berlin-based by way of South Africa while keyboard player Graham Mushnik and guitar/bass player Antonin Voyant are both French. The collective influences they bring to Anatolian music make for a completely unique and fresh sound that both pushes the genre forward and champions its rich heritage. Yarın Yoksa which translates to If There Is No Tomorrow delves into deeply personal pain and collective resistance with a central thread of loss, longing, and hope for change running throughout. The lyrics are poetic and rely heavily on symbolic language, metaphors, and storytelling while the music shifts track to track making each tune stand out on its own but work together perfectly as an album. “Cool Hand”, the first single released on Big Crown in September of 2024, is a beautiful juxtaposition of intensity and light-heartedness over a thoroughly infectious groove. The message is poetic and complicated, repeatedly declaring “I love you, I’m crazy about you” but ultimately finding a sense of peace through accepting a broken heart. “Direne Direne” is a protest song that embodies the struggle and tireless pursuit of justice encouraging people to resist oppression. A match made in heaven and hell, since forming in the cradle of Europe Athens, back in 2012, dark synth duo Selofan have paved their own perditious way, reinventing the modern Darkwave scene throughout the continent and worldwide with their prolific creativity and work ethic over the past decade. Through varied experimental synth-scapes conjured with keen ears for sound design, production, and theatrical aesthetics, Selofan rest not on the laurels of just creating highly danceable coldwave infused music, but with together with Joanna Pavlidou's haunting vocals, and Dimitris Pavlidis' throbbing bass guitar, and modular synth compositions, the pair conjure whole other worlds and narratives throughout each album and music video they create. Thus far the Selofan have released 5 studio albums, issued through their own legendary label they curate themselves: Fabrika Records. Through their Fabrika family, Selofan have championed such acts as Lebanon Hanover, and She Past Away, aiding these bands in becoming two of the most popular Darkwave acts worldwide. Drab Majesty even cameoed in a She Past Away video while being hosted by Selofan during one of the band's frequent stays in Athens, and Kaelan Mikla, a handpicked favorite of The Cure, were first championed by Selofan, through the release of the Icelandic Trio's self-titled debut in 2016. In the Spring of 2020, Selofan released the video for the hopelessly plaintive "There Must Be Somebody", the first single from their forthcoming sixth studio album Partners In Hell, the follow-up to 2018's widely popular Vitrioli LP. "There Must be Somebody" is a discordant composition, mimicking the startled song of birds after a disturbance in a wooded enclave on a mountainside, while a magick ritual unfolds. The album itself opens with "Grey Gardens", a menagerie of morose melodies setting a sombre tone for the rest of a bleak record whose sound design and dreamscapes evoke the best sounds of British and German post-punk of the 80s. "Almost Nothing" is a brooding bell-driven track with a dark and pirouetting melody that is the perfect soundtrack to a figurine twirling in a music box. The German language "Nichts" means No, and this song is both sinister and cinematic with sighing keys, shuddering drum machines, and German lyrics sung with sorrowful conviction. "Zusamen", is a word often asked if you are together, or separate, is a dark ballad whose shadowy keys weave a nightmarish delirium, evoking the soundscapes of a lullaby sung in a haunted dollhouse. "4am" is a restless rhythm, whose soft percussive melody tosses and turns alongside subtle bass and string accents overlaid with despondent vocals. "Happy Consumers" sounds like the swirling of a finger drawn upon the edge of crystalline glass, with vocals and drum machines coming emanating from an adjacent room with echoing acoustics, collectively evoking the sound like lingers when the somnambulist wakes from his dream. "Absolutely Absent" hums onward like a phantom train ride that is a one-way ticket to madness, and with the next track "Metalic Isolation" the locomotive beats gather more steam, propelled forward with anachronistic melody. The album closes with "Auf Dein Haut", which translates as on your skin, and the song is both tactile and tenebrous with sensuously dark synth textures amidst howling German vocals that take flight like witches during a sabbat. Pharoahe Monch is one of the most revered and influential emcees in the history of hip-hop, and 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of his fourth studio album "PTSD: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder".

In PTSD, Pharoahe Monch continues the story he began telling in his previous LP, "W.A.R. (We Are Renegades)" from 2011. The Queens emcee narrates, in both literal and metaphoric ways, about the trials and tribulations of an independent artist who is at war with the music industry and the struggle of the black male experience in America.

In 2012, during an interview with Shawn Setaro, host of the podcast The Cipher, the rapper explained the connections between the two projects, beyond their titles. “The W.A.R. album was like, I’m going to battle against the machine, I’m doing this independently. I’m putting some things out that I learned and I’m going to expose about the music industry. PTSD is the result of me doing that, where I am emotionally now. It’s similar to how someone comes back from war and is stricken by re-adjusting to a regular situation.”

Monch told MTV Hive that PTSD is “more mental, emotional and personal” because it came out of the depths of a period of depression. He also gave the internal and external factors that helped him create the album. “I was working on the title track, which took me to a point in between Internal Affairs and Desire, where I was heavily depressed. Through the waiting period, the industry period, and going through a lot emotionally. Then there was the physical problem with asthma. It was the worst. So I started off with that title track and my manager was like, ‘Yo, let’s really dive into that state and how you got to where you are now, and how this follows what people go through to get back to a so-called ‘normal’ situation’.”

The concept album follows a veteran through combat experience, his return home, relationship dissolution, drug addiction, painful depression, and, finally, a triumphant but realistically rendered decision to keep living and struggling.

Sagacious reggae lyricist Vaughn Benjamin’s words are particularly cutting during Sow And The Reap, the final recording of Vaughns immense catalog of works with I Grade Records. Produced by Zion I Kings, and taken from 2021’s album Polarities, Sow And The Reap folds topics of political dominance, mass migration, and injustice into a thought provokingly coherent whole. The song brims with Vaughn’s characteristic dual-meaning word-play, using evocative metaphors of nature and agriculture to illuminate global policy. Sow And The Reap’s timeless lyrical principles are matched by its inexorable reggae rhythm, featuring hefty programmed drums by Romain “Teflon Zincfence” Arnett, and sombre trombone and space age synth, both supplied by much missed multi-instrumentalist Drew Keys. Backed by its correspondingly haunting dub.

This series honours both the vocal and version culture of the reggae sound system and the profound lyricism of Vaughn Benjamin. We have consistently received two requests in relation to releasing the LPs: "Can we have dub versions?" and "Where can we read the lyrics?" Our response is the 'Akae Beka - vocal, version and word-sound collection.' Before Zero Records worked with Tippy I Grade to mix a series of dub mixes from a carefully curated selection of his extensive works with Vaughn Benjamin. The vocal and corresponding dub mixes were then cut to wax by Lewis Hopkin of Star Delta and wrapped in a collage made of Ras Marcus's artworks, which he crafted for various LP covers of Vaughn's works throughout the years with the lyrics transcribed and printed on the rear of each sleeve.

Formed in Oakland just before the pandemic's onset in late 2019, SPY has built on the foundation of bands like Bad Brains and Poison Idea rather than following the current wave of metallic hardcore. Their latest offering maintains the critical edge of their earlier material while expanding their lyrical scope, delivering a streamlined punch that hits hard through its runtime. By staying true to themselves, SPY has carved out their own niche in the modern hardcore landscape. After touring with legends and contemporaries alike including Gel, Full of Hell, Ceremony, Municipal Waste, Sunami and playing basically every fest worth caring about including Sound and Fury, Outbreak, Sick New World and LDB, 2025 is set to be a monstrous year for SPY.

Armagedda’s debut album, “The Final War Approaching”, is a hateful slab of youthful fervour. Originally released by the iconic cult label Sombre Record in 2001, this is black metal distilled to its purest, most unadulterated form. While drenched in lo-fi minimalism, the production is absolute perfection for the material. The piercing guitar leads cut through a dense fog of reverb, while the prominent bass and drums impart a malevolent force – all of which culminates in a sinister authenticity, inimitable and true.

Armagedda’s “Ond spiritism” (2004) is held in the same regard as the iconic releases by black metal contemporaries such as Funeral Mist, Watain, and Deathspell Omega. Boasting one of the best productions ever to emerge from Necromorbus Studio, the unique tonal quality of the guitars casts a hollow, haunting resonance – impeccably conveying the wistful, folk-infused dissonance. Creative basslines weave through sinister melodies, seamlessly integrated with the minimalist yet masterful percussion.

The infamous Baltimore/DC grind axis unloads another salvo in the form of Heirs to Thievery. A tremendous step forward for the band on both the songwriting and production fronts, Heirs to Thievery propels MISERY INDEX to the forefront of the international death metal scene. As "The Carrion Call", "The Spectator", "Plague of Objects" and the title track all underscore, Heirs to Thievery is the most ferocious and memorable MISERY INDEX album to date.

Alle 10 Songs sind vom selben Gefühl des Loslassens durchdrungen. Aufgenommen wurden in Studios
in seiner Heimat Belgien und seinem neuen Zuhause in den USA, gemeinschaftlich mit seinem langjährigen musikalischen Wegbegleiter PJ Maertens. „Every Dawn’s A Mountain“ bildet eine Brücke zwischen
Taminos eigener musikalischen Sozialisierung und zeitgenössischen Einflüssen, dessen Songwriting vor allem
seinen transzendentalen Gesang in den Vordergrund stellt. Ein besonderes Highlight des Albums bildet der
Track „Sanctuary“, ein gemeinsames Stück mit Mitski.

Seven years ago, Tamino became an unsuspecting star in his native Belgium, catapulted to major stages after winning a national radio contest. He had always expected to write intimate songs for small audiences, but here he was in front of ecstatic crowds that soon included Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood, such a fan he began touring and recording with Tamino. This new record sees Tamino take a more conceptual approach to song-writing, in his owns words he felt “a tremendous urge to build a metaphysical altar for what had been lost. The end result, though at times eclectic, feels like the most harmonious record I’ve made to date, with all 10 songs strung together by a same sense of honoring and letting go.”

It has been over a decade since Anthony Mills created Wildcookie, his most celebrated project. With tracks like Heroine and Serious Drug, the album Cookie Dough gained worldwide recognition, landing on numerous radio playlists, including Gilles Peterson’s show. Even after all these years, it remains a favorite on streaming platforms. Now, fourteen years later, Mills returns, teaming up with Marek “Latarnik” Pędziwiatr to create Crack Rock—a bold evolution of Wildcookie’s legacy.
While Wildcookie’s signature warm, jazzy Fender Rhodes sound defined its identity, Crack Rock shifts toward 1980s-inspired compositions crafted by Pędziwiatr, known for his work with EABS, Błoto, and Zima Stulecia. The duo explored yacht rock, drawing inspiration from Fleetwood Mac and Michael McDonald, maintaining the genre’s clean vocals and catchy melodies. However, their experimental spirit pushed the sound further, distorting the polished yacht rock aesthetic—leading to Crack Rock, a clever wordplay reflecting both the music and its themes.
Anthony Mills is known for layered wordplay, and the album’s name nods to deeper personal struggles. “I listened to the song Crack on repeat—it brought me to tears. Growing up in the crack era was painful. The PTSD I endured is now a powerful source of inspiration.” This raw emotional backdrop adds an edge to Crack Rock’s themes of love and human relationships—what Mills calls “cold love”: alluring, grand, yet ultimately destructive. Like an addiction, you keep coming back for more.
This idea of addiction shapes the duo’s sonic exploration—beneath the catchy melodies lie deeper, pain-laden themes wrapped in metaphor. “I see this album as therapy, a testament to the magic we create in the studio,” says Pędziwiatr. “Our process is a mix of musical mastery and deep conversations about life. For me, it feels like soul cleansing.
