The "Sula Bassana" project marks the fusion of two distinct but complementary musical worlds: that of 20syl, electro-hip hop producer and DJ, and that of Christophe Panzani, versatile jazz musician. The album is an ode to contemplation, an immobile voyage embodied by the Gannet, the symbol of their creativity as they fly across styles and soundscapes.

The duo affirm their complicity with the eponymous track "Sula Bassana", where 20syl's sophisticated electro production blends with Christophe Panzani's melodious instruments. The track was accompanied on its release by a remarkable interactive video that poetically retraces the journey of a gannet.

The album also features a number of enriching collaborations. On "Dreams", they invite Yael Naim with her haunting voice and poignant harmonies. "Nuevo Mundo" invites La Chica to take us into a vibrant and eclectic atmosphere, fusing electro rhythms with Latin influences. Finally, "Playtime" features jazz pianist Eric Legnini, whose subtle chords and virtuoso improvisation infuse the album with a refined energy.

Eine musikalische Reise entlang der DonauDas neue Album "Donau" von Florian Christl ist eine musikalische Reise von der Quelle bis zur Mündung des zehn Länder verbindenden Flusses in zwölf neuen, atmosphärischen Kompositionen. Für diese ließ sich der Pianist und Komponist von der anmutigen Schönheit der Natur und den unterschiedlichen musikalischen Traditionen der prunkvollen Städte und Regionen entlang der Donau inspirieren. Mit unterschiedlichen Besetzungen erkundet Florian Christl Orte wie Wien, Budapest oder das Donau Delta und nimmt jeweils ein lokales musikalisches oder klangmalerisches Element in seine Kompositionen auf. Es begleiten ihn das traditionelle bayerische Volksmusikensemble "Seeger Saitenmusik", der Akkordeonist Vladislav Cojocaru, die Geigerin Kristina Šuklar, die Cellist*Innen Raphaela Gromes und Alik Lysiùk, ehemalige Mitglieder des Odessa Opernorchesters, die in einem Streicherensemble und als Solisten mitwirken, sowie Florian Christls festes Ensemble, mit dem er das Album auch live auf der Release-Tour spielen wird.Schon als Kind faszinierte es Florian Christl, wie das Wasser der Vils, die durch seine Heimatstadt Amberg fließt, seinen Weg ins weitentfernte Meer finden konnte. Es ist die Donau, die den kleinen Fluss mit dem weit im Osten gelegenen Schwarzen Meer verbindet. Auf dem 2.857 Kilometer langen Weg von ihrer Quelle im Schwarzwald bis zur Mündung in der Nähe der ukrainischen Hafenstadt Odessa, durchquert die Donau halb Europa und kulturelle Zentren wie Wien, Bratislava, Budapest oder den Großraum Bukarest. Deren Austausch hat sie als wichtiger Reiseweg wortwörtlich befördert und die Entwicklung eines gemeinsamen kulturellen Erbes Europas mit all seiner Vielgestaltigkeit - wie etwa in der Musik - gefördert.Der Beginn des Krieges in der Ukraine ruft in Florian Christl schlagartig das Gefühl der Verbundenheit hervor. Inspiriert von der Programmmusik der Romantik - insbesondere Smetanas "Moldau" - reifte in ihm die Idee, die "Donau" auf einem Konzeptalbum zu vertonen, um ein Zeichen für den Frieden in Europa zu setzen."Der Gedanke, wie uns die Donau alle direkt mit der Ukraine verbindet, ließ mich nicht mehr los. Der Fluss symbolisiert eine wechselvolle, tragische Geschichte von Flucht, Vertreibung und Invasion in Europa, aber auch von einem beständigen Austausch, der doch die europäische Kultur erst erschaffen hat, wie man in der europäischen Kunstmusik deutlich sehen kann," erklärt Florian Christl.Mit dieser Idee begann der Komponist eine umfassende Recherche über die Donau, die Städte, Regionen und artenreichen Naturräume, die sie verbindet. Eine Reise auf dem Fluss führte ihn bis zum Donau-Delta. Dort markiert die Donau die Grenze zwischen einem Europa in Frieden mit Rumänien an einem Ufer und der Ukraine im Krieg am anderen Ufer. Florian Christl beschreibt die Situation:"Es war surreal und traurig. Der Kontrast zwischen der unglaublich schönen Natur und dem Wissen, um die Schrecken des Krieges, die hier nur wenige Kilometer entfernt sind."Der Entstehungsprozess des Albums zog sich über mehr als zwei Jahre hin. Nach den ersten Aufnahmen erlitt Florian Christl im September 2023 einen Herzinfarkt, der ihn für mehrere Wochen aus dem Leben katapultierte und bis heute nachwirkt. Eine Erfahrung, die ihn dazu brachte, neu darüber nachzudenken, was im Leben wirklich wichtig ist: "Im Alltag verlieren wir oft den Blick dafür, was wirklich zählt: Die Momente mit den Menschen, die uns wirklich wichtig sind, mögen sie noch so knapp und beiläufig erscheinen. Wir verwenden so viel Energie darauf, nach scheinbar bleibendem materiellem Einfluss, Reichtum oder Land zu streben. Wir sollten viel mehr Zeit darauf verwenden, diese, unsere Reise miteinander zu genießen."

Spyro Gyra, a jazz fusion band from Buffalo, NY formed in 1974 and created the framework for contemporary jazz in the 80s and 90s. Celebrating this milestone 50th anniversary of the band's formation, comes Jubilee, a new collection featuring 16 songs that capture the band's ever-expanding palette in its first decade of recording (1978-87) and includes fan favorites "Shaker Song", "Morning Dance" which have had chart success in multiple countries plus tracks the band continues to perform across the globe.

The new LP and CD contains never before seen photos from the band's early days and more recent world tours, liner notes from veteran music journalist Jonathan Widran and a newly recorded song, "50/50" - a riff on the title of the band's 1997 release 20/20, which marked 20 years and 20 albums.

Zur Feier des 30-jährigen Jubiläums von The Charlatans drittem Album "Up To Our Hips" gibt es ab dem 08.11.2024 eine erweiterte Neuauflage der Platte. Das Set wird als 2LP, 2CD und digital erhältlich sein und neben dem Originalalbum zehn Bonus-Songs enthalten, darunter Live-Tracks und seltene Mixe. Das Album kommt mit einem neuen von Nik Void gestalteten Artwork und wird als petrolblaues Bio-Vinyl gepresst. Mit dem Album "Up To Our Hips", das 1994 erschien, schlug die Band eine neue Richtung ein. Es grenzt sich von den beiden Vorgängeralben ab, die wesentlich poppiger waren, klingt dunkler, schwerer und bedient sich vermehrt an Orgelklängen. Die Band hörte zur Zeit der Entstehung viel Musik von Künstlern wie Small Faces, The Beatles und Dylan und schaute David-Lynch-Filme. Zur gleichen Zeit gab es einige interne Schwierigkeiten. Viele Lyrics spiegeln diese Unruhe wider. We are proud to present “Shores Of Acheron”, an opus of the technical death and melodic black metal band Kharon, and a product from experienced musicians with roots in the Norwegian early 90’s extreme metal scene including artists from bands as Mork, Dauden, Infernal, Skjoge and Ragnarok. Kharon hails from the town Sarpsborg, Norway, and was basically founded already in 1989 by guitarist Rigor and bass-player Kull, but was originally formed under the name of Padox, and later re-named as Immortal Enemy and Potency. In 1992 the official and current band-name Kharon was established, when Thyme aka General Hymer joined the band. In 2001 they recorded their first 3 song-demo “The Fullmoon Curse” at Haunted House Studio, followed up two years later with their first official release: the EP “Raised By Hellish Demons”, which also marked the end of the first era of Kharon. Until the plague struck and 20 years later Kharon resurfaced under the banner of Hellstain Productions, recording brand-new material with vocalist Malignant. The band's debut album “Shores Of Acheron” is finally unveiled, and constitutes Kharon's journey through more than 30 years of Norwegian extreme metal music history. It contains remixed and remastered tracks of “The Fullmoon Curse” and “Raised By Hellish Demons”, finalized with the new material. Vinyl: gold & red edition.

Inhaler is the third studio album by American rock band TAD, originally released on October 19, 1993. It was the band's major label debut after two albums and an EP released by Sub Pop, and it was also their first album with drummer Josh Sinder, formerly of The Accüsed. Producer J. Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.) gave TAD a more focused and driven sound on this record. He can be heard playing the piano on ""Luminol"". The song ""Grease Box"" was played during the end credits of the 1994 movie Brainscan. Inhaler is easily their best and most consistent album to date and obtained positive critical reception upon release. Fortunately, the group has lost none of the grit that marked them as the grungiest of the Seattle scene. In promotion of Inhaler, TAD toured with Soundgarden. Inhaler is available on black vinyl and includes an insert.

Joy (2018) debut album spun off platinum single "Silver Lining," an uplifting power ballad that has eclipsed over 240 million streams across platforms. Their second album, Rearrange Us (2020) drew widespread critical raves, with the title track gaining 92 million Spotify streams since the release. Their third LP, Orange Blood (2022), came out of the pandemic and further cemented them with another #1, "Lemon Tree," at AAA and a 70 date headline tour that sold over 180K tickets. His appearances on Dutch televisionshows like 'Raymann Is Laat' and 'De Wereld Draait Door' are also legendary. Now, 15 years later, the music has not lost any of its power. It is high time for a re-release of this iconic album in a special Anniversary Edition, with an additional insert with photo's, credits and a reflection by Colin Benders.

On his new album ‚forge’, ambient artist KMRU explores the blend of melody and noise, rhythm and drone. ‚forge’ marks the third release on Seil Records for the Nairobi born and Berlin based producer. Made up of 10 tracks, the album effortlessly wanders from intimate compositions over field recordings to deep and rich soundscapes.

The result feels like a living, breathing organism. Music you can immerse yourself in. Like few others, the 27 year old producer carved a niche of his own, capturing the essence of his raw live performances to form a highly unique listening experience that transcends what ambient music is known for.

‚forge‘ can both exist in the background as well as front and center. Filled with intricate details and vast sonic vistas, it invites the listeners to lose themselves in the music. It’s gentle, yet uncompromising; soft and warm, yet growly and dense.

"Even by the high-water marks set by Herbie Hancock’s tremendous 1960s Blue Note output, 1965’s Maiden Voyage remains one of the pinnacle artistic achievements of the great pianist’s career. Hancock is joined here by his Miles Davis Quintet bandmates Ron Carter on bass and Tony Williams on drums, along with Freddie Hubbard on trumpet and George Coleman on tenor saxophone. This self-titled LP marks the fifth release of Scottish artist Murray Collier’s Dip Friso project, his longest running alias and the solitary vanguard of his own Real Landscape imprint. Across the six tracks he delivers another collection of warped percussive loops, heavily manipulated guitar work and psychedelic sound experiments that drift between popular music forms ('I’ll Get to Hiding') and whittled down takes on electric blues and shoegaze ('Another Country’). The former features the instantly recognisable croon of Still House Plants vocalist Jess HK embellishing a backdrop of tape loop alchemy, an inspired pairing given the shared history of Glasgow dwelling. ‘Thin Ayrshire’ (written with Hannan Jones) treads a similar path with Collier’s own beyond-unrecognisable voice featuring, broken suddenly by a brief flash of 12th Isle’s Loris S. Sarid & Innis Chonnel’s ‘Spalted Water Portal’ thanks to a recycled tape spool. ‘A Sorry Business’ takes on avant-jazz inspired puddle skronk, a stunted casio bleep propelling forward guitar dirge and cymbal crashes, whilst Australian minimal wave heroes The Systematics are paid homage via a farewell cover of their track ‘Midnight on Balancing Day’ (here ‘Midnight’).

All in, the album sees the project incorporating more instrumentation and a full use of vocalists, leaning less heavily on gauzy sample collage styles and providing a more introspective look at the hazy, dubwise world Collier has been building for the past half a decade.

You Never End is the third album from Valentina Magaletti, Tom Halstead and Joe Andrews (Moin) out via AD 93. Its title alone expresses the teetering and shifting nature of both the album and band. This record marks the Moin"s shift into a new phase with vocal collaborations across the album from Olan Monk, james K, Coby Sey and Sophia Al-Maria.

Tristan Arp returns to Wisdom Teeth with his sophomore LP: ‘a pool, a portal’ - a vast, multi-dimensional record of pin-drop rhythms, hushed vocals and swirling ambience that maps out a vivid limbic space between the natural and the digital worlds. The LP began life while Tristan was still living in Mexico City, and was subsequently finished in New York. Carrying on from where his acclaimed debut ‘Sculpturegardening’ left off, the record marries hallucinatory modular synths with cello, found sound and spoken word, creating a rich sonic world in which machines mimic nature and acoustic instruments merge with their digital counterparts. Across the record’s narrative arc, listeners are invited to imagine a future world in which nature and machines collaborate to rewild and search for new modes of being. Far from apocalyptic, the artist’s vision is yearning and hopeful - a reflection on how we might evolve to overcome our very human limitations. “Hopefully we can all open a little portal into another world and integrate what we learn into our own”, Tristan offers. True to his word, Tristan shared much of the creative process with his machines, using modular generative processes to create randomised, improvisatory moments that he could collaborate on as artist and observer. Most of the tracks were captured in single takes as live performances and improvisations that were subsequently edited and cut down. Speaking of ‘Life After Humans’ - the record’s beguiling 10-minute centrepiece - Tristan recalls: “I neglected to record multi-track outs, but it was actually super empowering to be left with just a stereo track: I couldn’t mix individual elements even if I wanted to after the recording, but I’m happy I inadvertently limited myself in that way.” Alongside his own voice, the record features a stunning appearance from fast-rising Guatemalan cellist and vocalist, Mabe Fratti. The pair met in Mexico City in 2020, where she helped Tristan to learn cello - an encounter that ultimately went on to inform the recordings that made up ‘Sculpturegardening’. Her appearance on ‘a pool, a portal’ marks a full-circle moment in their creative relationship. The album’s artwork features photography by Zhang An - a photographer based in Nanjing, China. Despite their appearances, these are unmanipulated photos of real-world ice formations. As is the case throughout ‘a pool, a portal’, the lines between the natural and the artificial are playfully indistinct.

Shir Khan marks the 37th release on his infamous Black Jukebox imprint with an all-killer balearic house record courtesy of mysterious Cécille-affiliated Cabin Luv Affair hot on the heels of his debut album which has seen support from Fouk, Laurent Garnier, Jamie Jones, Mr. V and Archie Hamilton.

Here, the masked master lays out 4 convivial cuts that sit in a particular pocket between House and Disco; one that has historically been occupied by the likes of Pepe Bradock, Damiano Von Eckert and Andrés. A spot classically characterised by beautifully imperfect, sample-heavy productions that are shot through with palpable depth and soul.

The record sets sail with ’Te Siento’. Polyrhythmic percussion bubbles across the surface of a deep sonic pool that forms a bed for vivacious drums, romantic vocals and a spine-tingling strings riff. A hazy opening clears out before the backbone of recording shines through; an uplifting 90s piano motif that's later picked up by Xylophone tones while a tight, truncated bass line punches away at the track's core.

'Dance With Us' then rolls out a beautifully seductive mood. Softly shifting synth chords, a loose-limbed drum break and hedonic vocals whip up a hot and heavy vibe that shines with a distinctly Chicago-tinged elegance.

'Time Is Killing Us' follows up with an immaculately executed, 'last tune' House groove. A gentle but powerful euphoria is generated with swooning strings, more giddy piano riffs and another robust drum track that all gather momentum as progress rolls on. An ecstasy-crescendo forms before it crashes and fizzles before the lights go on.

'My Head Like Shibuya Crossing' then follows up with a tightly-knitted Deep House cut. Buttery melodies adorn an effortlessly kinetic bass groove before a delicate Japanese vocal bleeds into focus. As is the case with much of the record, the track graciously segues through its chapters with melody at the fore-front before bringing the record to a conclusion.

Long time friends and Lisbon-based Mirror People & OITO//OITO for the last 20 years have been lighting up dancefloors all over their native Portugal and beyond, with their passion for eclectic sounds as the main fuel for their sonic mission. ‘MP88’ marks their first EP together. ‘Howard’ opens with rugged 4/4 rhythms, acid squelches and meandering arps to set the tone, ‘New Ears’, takes things on saturated drums & fills, vintage stab sequences and enigmatic strings. Last but not least, is the dropped tempo acidic feel ‘Alive & Kicking’. Another flawless EP in OITO//OITO Discos, limited to 300 copies, this time in Yellow vinyl.

This rare Brit Funk 12” was originally released in 1984 and is now officially reissued for the first time. Licensed from producer Lindel Lewis, the 12” was heavily influenced by US Boogie and Disco and there’s a Dub influence at play as Lindel was also producing a lot of reggae around this time, most famously ‘Night Over Egypt’ by Mystic Harmony.

The 12” includes a previously unreleased Dub Version of ‘I Need You’ and was produced on two Analogue classics, Lindel says “I used a Linn Drum for the drums and played all synth parts using a Roland 106. I’m a classically trained musician and also a sound engineer, I worked at Mark Angelo Recording Studios for 18 years and have produced a great many artists. Steve Jones real name is Steve Myers, but I didn’t like the surname so changed it to Jones which felt more soulful. The name The Fat Boys came about because of the big bellies of myself the flute player Mike Appoh, my trainee engineer at the time. Ray Carlass played the sax solo, they have both now sadly passed”.

This long overdue reissue revives a standout moment in Brit Funk history, making it an essential addition for fans of classic Boogie and Disco. A 140 gram pressing in 3mm spine disco sleeve with labels and sticker designed by Bradley Pinkerton.

Alternative Jazz. This is a 5 track EP of brand new, previously unreleased material from The Near Jazz Experience (Terry Edwards, Mark Bedford and Simon Charterton). Whilst recording the new album Terry asked pianist Mike Garson (best known for his work with David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins) - whom Terry has toured with if he'd like to play on a track. Mike said yes, recorded a stupendous solo for Character Actor at his home studio and sent it over. All in the space of 24 hours! On hearing the piano part NJE bassist Mark Bedford came up with the idea of having the piano mixed with the original track (as intended) but also using it as the basis for a completely new recording with the piano leading rather than complementing the band. Side 1 of the EP has these two very different versions from the same seed. Unidentical twins indeed. Side 2 of the EP contains 4 outliers from the album sessions. These aren't out-takes or unfinished pieces. They simply couldn't find a place for themselves within the album - along the lines of the tunes Tom Waits put together for his Orphans compilation of 2006. They are standalone tunes which have found a home together on this EP because in some way they all have filmic qualities. Side 1 contains 2 takes on Character Actor (the title being a nod to Cracked Actor, a tune on Aladdin Sane, the album that introduced Bowie fans to Mike Garson), and Side 2 has The Loping Four; Projector; MacGuffin and Lockstep, all titles which contain strong cinematic elements, MacGuffin in particular. It was Alfred Hitchcock's favourite word for a red herring in the plot. The musical cast on this release has a remarkable pedigree. The NJE consists of Terry Edwards (solo artist and session player with PJ Harvey, Franz Ferdinand, Siouxsie, Jimi Tenor, Piroshka, Tindersticks etc); Mark Bedford (Madness, Robert Wyatt, Robyn Hitchcock, Nightingales etc); Simon Charterton (The Higsons, Alex Harvey, Zook, Serious Drinking etc). Alongside featured guest Mike Garson there is an appearance by Oliver Cherer (Aircooled, Miki Berenyi Band) on keys and synth. This is an RSD exclusive, 500 copies on black vinyl in full colour sleeve which reflects the filmic quality of the recorded material. No download. The title track will appear on the next Near Jazz Experience studio album. The 4 additional tracks, however, will remain exclusive to Record Store Day.

Nachdem er 2022 "The Consistent Brutal Bullshit Gong" schrieb, hat sich Nate Mendelsohn immer mehr in seiner Musikgemeinde in Brooklyn, NY, verwurzelt. Er produzierte die letzten FRANKIE COSMOS- und DOUGIE POOLE-Alben, trat bei VAGABON und SAM EVIAN auf und machte Aufnahmen mit YAEJI und LADY LAMB. Diese Erfahrungen mit abenteuerlichen Künstler*innen sind in Mendelsohns Songwriting eingeflossen und haben, zusätzlich zu seinen frühen Jahren in der Jazz- und Avantgarde-Welt, ein Album hervorgebracht, das so manchem wahrscheinlich den Kopf verdrehen wird, wenn man Alben namens "Pet Sounds", "Fantasma", "Insignificance", "Blonde" oder "XO" mag. Wie auf einigen der genannten Alben verschmilzt auch auf "Well I Asked You A Question" das Physische mit dem Synthetischen: gesampelte Orchester duellieren sich mit echten Orchestern ("Fantasy"), die gesprochenen Worte eines Roboters duettieren sich mit einem menschlichen Chor ("Around"), und Geräuschexplosionen üben sich in Soli über traditionelle Rockinstrumente ("Rachel's Getting Married"). Obwohl viele der Sounds auf dem Album erweitert und gebrochen sind, arbeitete Mendelsohn mit der vollen MARKET-Band - Stephen Becker, Natasha Bergman und Duncan Standish - zusammen, um die Songs zu entwickeln. Er wollte "musikalische Unfälle mit ausgefransten Rändern - immer noch eine Gruppe von Leuten, die in einem Raum sind und Songs spielen". The music of LSN always has a certain level of grit texture and foreboding. In the background chains drag the drums always contain a certain amount of breaking snap. The sum total though is not a haunting but more of a three dimensional submersion into a rhythmic organisation of these sounds. The work in a way announcing how it’s been made by giving you beds of variant sounds mixed so well that can create your own narrative story to the soundtrack that you’re hearing. That narrative potential is something that marks this album as notable in the electronic music sphere.

Yodelice braucht keine Einführung: Vom Interpreten zum Komponisten, Regisseur und Musikproduzenten, er ist nicht zu stoppen.
