December 12th last year it was time for one of the most spectacular parties trance has to offer: Grotesque Winter Edition 2015 at Central Studios in Utrecht.
The event celebrated the moment of the 200th Grotesque Radio broadcast, a big milestone! An amazing line-up was also part of the deal with sets by of course RAM, John 'O Callaghan, Bryan Kearney, Mark Sherry, Ørjan Nilsen and more. Plus a surprise guest appearance by Eller van Buuren.

Auf Seite A gibt es zwei Tracks von Styro2000s Le Bal EP "Deselected", die am selben VÖ-Datum, 25.6., erscheint. Styro2000, Zürichs Meister der Modularen Analogsysteme und bekannt vom Duo "Galoppierende Zuversicht", das nicht nur am Burning Man Furore machte, ist nach längerer Pause zurück mit einem Solorelease und seinem sorgfältig handgemachten, analogen Minimal-Techno, der uns Hörer mit seinen subtilen rhythmischen Mustern and klanglichen Ausflügen gnadenlos reinzieht.

Die AA-Seite präsentiert den dritten und letzten Teil der "Strange Sounds" Remixes von Manuel Mind & Valentino Tomasis Elektroklassiker von 2001. Während wir für die Volumes 1 & 2 (LEBAL1201/1202, LEBAL002), hauptsächlich einheimische Produzenten angefragt hatten - Andri, Canson, Marco Repetto - baten wir dieses Mal drei internationale Remixer um ihre Vision des Tracks. Es geht los mit DJ Slugo, einem der Chicago Juke / Ghetto House Pioniere, und seiner kompromisslosen Tiefbass-808-Booty-Shake Juke-Version; danach klopft Johnny Dangerous in seiner Foremost Poets Mental Version "Strange Sounds" den Track richtig weich. Seine Synkopen-Synthie-Stöhnvocal-Version verdient ihren Namen in jedem Fall. Den Abschluss macht der Berliner Produzent Mijk van Dijk mit einem Mix, dessen Boogie-Feel uns die Tanzschuhe von selbst anzieht.

Side A features two tracks from Styro2000's Le Bal EP "Deselected", out on the same date, June 25th. Styro2000, Zurich's master of modular analogue systems and of "Galoppierende Zuversicht" fame with legendary live performances at Burning Man, is back with a solo release featuring his carefully crafted trademark sound of analogue minimal techno that seduces the listener with its rhythmic patterns and sonic waves.

Side AA features the third and final installment of the "Strange Sounds" remixes by Le Bal's own Manuel Mind & Valentino Tomasi. While in Volumes 1 & 2 (LEBAL1201/1202, LEBAL002), we invited mainly producers from our native Switzerland - Andri, Canson, Marco Repetto et al. - this time, we asked some international remixers to complete their visions of the track. It starts with DJ Slugo, one of the pioneers of Chicago Juke / Ghetto House, and his uncompromising deep bass 808 booty-shake Juke version; after that, Foremost Poets' Johnny Dangerous beats "Strange Sounds" with a bat, and out comes a syncope-driven "Mental" version that fully deserves its name. At last, Berlin-based Mijk van Dijk delivers a funky track with a boogie feel you feel the need to dance to.

System 7 have forged a sound that's both identifiable and individual, which shines through on 'X-Port' especially on their collaborations with Alex Paterson (The Orb) on 'The Queen', a spacey alien Detroit inspired instrumental and on the dubbed-out ambient techno of 'Angelico Presto'. James Monro returns S7 to edgy terrain on 'Infinity Boulevard' alongside the crispy percussive tech funk of 'Chic Psychedelic (X-Port Version)'. Flanked by the potent and raw 'The Colour of Love (X-Port version)', a throbbing 7 minute epic, and the techno tour de force 'Love for the Phoenix (X-Port Version)' (loosely based on the classic System 7 track Habibi' from the first System 7 album) which is their collaboration with Rovo, fusing chants, live violin and guitar over thumping beats. '5 Beat' picks up the pace with its charged techno beats, metallic groove and early house feeling aided by a bouncy tech bassline, segued guitar n' snarly synth lines. 'Stovepipe'  stands out for its relentless unravelling beats epic that ignite and reconnects in hypnotic rhythm. 'Opal Flash', which includes a blistering Steve Hillage guitar solo, and System 7's remix of Rovo's 'Batis' showcase the side of System 7 that finds big success at major trance festivals such as Ozora and Boom.

'X-Port' showcases the powerful and upbeat expression of the live dancefloor energy of System 7.

Ministry of Sound are proud to present the next instalment of their pioneering album series, Trance Nation or in the words of MIXMAG, 'the Super-Bowl of trance mix-comps'. In a break with our established annual-release tradition, October 2015 see Ministry of Sound heed the call of the scene with - for the first time in a decade - a second Trance Nation outing for the year, fronted this time by Trance legend, global music icon and Cold Harbour head honcho, Markus Schulz. Bringing his trademark sound to the biggest album in Trance, loaded with exclusives (15 of them to be precise) sourced specifically for the compilation, Trance Nation Markus Schulz is, in every sense of the phrase, a release the fans have been waiting for, for a very long time.

Born in Eschwege, central Germany, Markus emigrated to the United States. Age 13, his dance music awakening came during the grip of the country's then-nascent breakdance scene. His early production and DJ career roughly tracked that of the second Stateside House explosion and he caught his first production break in 1993 when he remixed Sagat's 'Why Is It (F** Dat)' for FFrr. Markus' freshman production release followed in 1994 with the 6-track 'Plastik Trax EP Vol 1'. Throughout the mid to late Nineties he continued to accrue acclaim with a range of releases on numerous luminary U.S. labels. In 1998 he recorded 'You Won't See Me Cry' for Plastik Records (his first label), which was picked up by the UK's Eve Records and became his first non-domestic release.

Amongst the exclusives on the album you'll find Markus' dazzling remix of 'Déjà Vu' from Giorgio Moroder & Sia, 'Twilight of the Night' - a heralding return for his Dakota alias and an all-new version of pre-summer touchdown 'Tomorrow Never Dies'. That's really just for starters though... Through tracks & remixes, there's also a straight flush of productions from trance music's luminaries... Recent floor-wowers from Ferry Corsten, Chicane, Rank 1 & M.I.K.E. Push, Solarstone, Tritonal, and Judge Jules are all mixed into the discs. To further whet your appetite, here's also a full spread of productions from Markus' Coldharbour kings, with music from Mr. Pit vs. Fisherman & Hawkins, Nifra, Rex Mundi, Klauss Goulart and others.

Priming the first mix with 'Fibreglasses' - Chicane's liquid cool latest and Gai Barone's brooding 'Un-Theme', Markus fashions a deeply dug entrenchment for the intro. Supplying sonic ether of the darker variety too are 'Twilight of the Night' from Dakota - Markus' moodier mode and Marscela's (Schulz again) pad-soaked 'Time Plex'. Further in and bigger yet guns rollout. Schulz's trance-floor penetrating rework of Moroder/Sia Billboard smash 'Déjà Vu'; August's DJ Mag Single of the Month 'Juno' from Rank 1 & M.I.K.E. Push all blaze their own paths through the disc's midsection. Carving out its latter stages meanwhile is a host from the Coldharbour Recordings élite, with empyrean vocal numbers from Tenishia ft. Adina Butar & Nifra ft. Seri + instrumental cuts from Mr. Pit vs. Fisherman & Hawkins, & Klauss Goulart. Bringing first disc proceedings to their boiling point is the Markus/Delacey collab (and former Beatport #1) 'Destiny'.

Charging its opening moments with the new Coldharbour Intro Mix of his & Vassy's 'Tomorrow Never Dies' (Bombay), right off Mix 2's bat, Markus is swinging for the fence. Other 'destinations' from Schulz's 2015 City Series quickly arrive, with a midpoint stop-off in London for the Ministry-dedicated 'Lost In The Box' and the 'Trance Nation' exclusive outro version of 'Avalon (LA)'. Running between them is a mass effect of other exclusives. Purple Stories fresh take on neo-classic 'City of Angels' from Elevation vs. Grube & Hovsepian; the riff stridence of Danilo Ercole's 'Format' abounds and 'Knightfall' & 'Worlds Apart' from, Arkham Knights & Artisan rock blocks respectively. Bringing Disc 2 to its towering, uplifting conclusion are Gouryella's comeback release 'Anahera' and Ferry & Markus together on New World Punx's Coachella-destroying 'Memories'.
