* Following on from last year's debut release on Cold Recordings, Cocktail Party Effect makes a welcome return to the imprint with 4 new genre-melting rhythmical workouts, charged and ready for the dancefloor.

* 'Lemons', the eponymous EP title track, kicks things off, opening with dubbed-out chords and a fidgety, rattling percussive loop which eventually disappears into the background as the breakdown primes itself for the drop. Suddenly, in comes a hyperactive rhythmical workout, rolling at 128bpm but turbo charged with double time percussive flicks. Soon the dub elements return to fill out the sonic, keeping the pace lively and engaging. Quality, effective dancefloor music.

* Following straight on is 'Bangers' which almost sounds like an imagined collaboration between JA rhythms stars of the moment, Equiknoxx and Walton or Batu. Squelchy drums and a t'umping bassline roll things out in fine style.

* Flip the plate then for 'Quite' which brings things back into slightly more familiar territories, utilising a swooping bassline as pitched, deranged vocal stabs swirl about and tight drum programming keeps the pace moving. Last up is 'Flat Football' which returns to a similar form as the title track, 'Lemons'. Manic drum programming is used to create the impression of being in fast forward without moving the tempo over 130bpm! Not for the faint hearted.

This recording is the dark side of Bill Laswell at the peak of his art in 1995. He goes into a black trance. The piece is not from a collaboration, it was designed alone, in his studio in Brooklyn. Bass Terror Tetragrammaton is also to be linked to an alchemical process. Nocturnal Crawl is a totally hypnotic piece, the first that Nik Bullen designed outside of Napalm Death and Scorn. The two pieces answer each other strangely, like two sides of the same hidden anxiety.

The concept of this series was the confrontation of electric guitars as the tutelary instrument, but here and this time only, it came out of bassists confronting each other.

The heavy pulse of sound systems synchronizes with the precision of musique concre`te and the reconstructed memory of a masked folk dance of the Swiss mountains. Techno, drum 'n' bass and dub are echoed within this sonic processional, where samples are pulled apart and recycled, cut at the beginning and end, then linked together. Tresque takes his name from an open-chain circle dance from medieval southern Europe. Under the musical moniker d'Incise he has played on numerous solo and collaborative projects with Cyril Bondi, designing quiet, intensive listening experiences with various combinations of software, recordings from vinyl or in the field, modified objects, percussion and harmonium. As Tresque the delicate minimalism he's known for takes shape within driving grooves. Airy, spacious, amplified noise from his collection of samples is sliced and tethered to weightier, physical beats. A tension forms between uplift and downfall, hypnotically oscillating between structural textures and collective dance.

New record label born in Barcelona mainly dedicated to electro, presents its first release, Dark Ambition by Vema Diodes. Útil records has been created with the aim of continuing our purpose to spread the electro in its different forms, premise of the label team for more than 15 years in which its members have joined different musical projects and have participated in the line-up of innumerable national and international clubs. In our debut album, Vema invites us to take a walk for its impeccable sound, low basses, fat kick drums, sharp snares, all with a very careful production. Vema is a talented artist dedicated entirely to the music and other disciplines such as graffiti. Inspirational Quotes is Stockholm-based Sissel Wincent's killer 2nd charge of buzzing techno for Peder Mannerfelt's label. Following her recent remix of Fever Ray's Wanna Sip, Sissel here draws further inspiration from the intersection of doomcore gabber, electronic minimalism and experimental techno to shape a rugged sound riddled with uncanny detail and unyielding
arrangements, effectively articulating the idea of techno with a uniquely dry and biting attitude.
Ponytails kicks off the EP with roving kicks scanned by searchlight synths and ice cold melody recalling a below kelvin Nkisi cut, while Cynical holds that glaring sound in clenched suspense with a push and pull of jarring atonalities and shivering rhythms that resolve to a jagged, roguish trample. On Yellow Lines Sissel swerves closer in effect to the primitivist bangers of Frak with unflinching style, but an element of trippy emotive pathos begins to creep in with the curdled synths smeared over militant steppers' ballistics on Still Undetermined, before Distance As Distance holds her anti-banger stance with bruising, abrasive force.Ahead of her incoming EP for SHXCXCHXCX's Rösten label, Inspirational Quotes features some of the grittiest and unsettling techno you'll from Scandinavia in 2018.

* ZULI's new offering Trigger Finger is a game of shadows, bass weight and outworked tension. A kind of extremization of ZULI's own roots as a beatmaker for the Cairo rap scene, tinged with the urbanism of grime and darkside jungle. But the dark and crusty sonic palette does not limit the possibility for the tracks to display various layers of emotional content. It is ZULI's most cohesive, complex and original work to date, exhibiting his constant growth as an artist.

Various Artists including Buttechno, Broshuda, Garrett David, Steven Warwick and more... Each track was composed with the theme of Apophenia in mind (the tendency to perceive connections and meaning between unrelated things), keeping a foot between club and experimental material. This record is a complement to a contemporary exhibition in Berlin and a 122 pages book.

ESHU, the production collective and record label from Nijmegen are back with their next offering. Their 12th release is a various artists release that features BLM, Jburg and Steven Siwalette alongside label members Ivano Tetelepta and Jocelyn Abell. It comes on the heels of Tetelepta's absorbing dub techno album, Senang, and is another high class offering. Nijmegen based Siwalette is first, previously contributed to the label as part of SYS. His Stragglers is a sparse but atmospheric track with industrial drones and slowly turning drums taking you through a desolate factory late at night. His second offering is Alien Encounter which is just as it sounds - a spooky, unsettling bit of cinematic sound design with menacing bass and icy pads all growing in loudness until they eventually consume your mind. Lastly on the A-side, UK producer and Fear of Flying label boss BLM lays down a skeletal groove that's embellished with beautiful, yawning synths. Scattered little details and fx making this a cavernous piece that encourages your mind to wander and get lost. On the flip, Jocelyn Abell and Ivano Tetelepta cook up a heavyweight, mid tempo bit of dub techno with sharp hits and rolling kicks lulling you into a trance. Last of all, the emerging Jburg picks up the pace with a perfectly chiselled bit of rock solid dub with looping drums and icy hi hats sinking you deep into its midst. This is an excellent EP that packs in a range of fascinating sounds for both the home and the club.

The new record of TERRITOIRE presents the story of the slave Alix from his birth as a submissive being until the encounter with his first owners. Produced with techno veteran Oscar Mulero, it spits out 7 tracks made of flesh, heat and metal, that press and shake the limits between a sensorial electronica and industrial techno.

Project from the french producer and composer Olivier Arson, TERRITOIRE has published three different records with each other: Mandorle (2012), for which they played at Sónar Barcelona, Mandorle - Versions (2014), with remixes from artists like Aidan Baker and Father Murphy, and Confess (2016), an experiment from a sound installation based on the confession ritual.

In constant motion and without a stable form, TERRITOIRE opens news tensions between electronic processes, experimental instrumentation and narrative fragments. It sculpts an experimental techno that expands across oppressive and cathartic rhythms, folds into physical drones, and explodes with mutant screams. An existential drift towards a broken horizon that hides his beauty and discovers, at last, on this latent limit, a disturbing and unknown light.

Perc's third album 'Bitter Music' pushed his sound to further extremes than ever before when released in April of this year, winning widespread acclaim and launching a worldwide tour to support it. Now the album returns with two EPs of interpretations for a diverse selection of remixers most of whom are new to Perc Trax. This first EP of remixes takes in Head Front Panel's constantly building, pulsating version of deep album moment 'The Thought That Counts', Hodge's Bristol meets London meets Berlin stepping take on 'Chatter' and a screwfaced broken version of album opener 'Exit' by rising Blackest Ever Black star Pessimist.

Approaching the release of a new ASC LP, we are always lucky to have an excess amount of tunes for the project. Together with ASC, we strive to create a cohesive sonic narrative with each LP. Astral Perception contains four immense tunes that were produced for the Astral Projection project, but ultimately were unable to fit amongst the Astral Projection story. These pieces are of the same high quality as the LP tracks, so we wanted to ensure they were put out into the world to compliment the LP. Arced is a contorted re imagining of Arc from The Farthest Reaches, while Inner Space is a peak time Grey Area infused Techno floor tune, Ring System is a rhythmic workout that acts as a perfect linking tool for adventurous DJ's, and Event Horizon recalls ASC's past work in a gliding depth charge style.

For over 4 years, David Coccagna aka Chaperone has been a constant part of Great Circles, as musician, art director, and muse. With Snapback Balaclava he once again fully embodies all of those roles, delivering three inspiring tracks, selecting his remixers with specific attention to their musical histories, and designing his cover art.

Across the A-side, Chaperone scrapes away at the grit - personal grit, the grit of anxiety, and Philly grit. These are meditations on loops, and loops on meditations. Each one appears on the surface to be a brief quote, but time dilation takes over, and minutes later we discover that Chaperone has welcomed us into and back out of his own healing moment.

Like Chaperone's P O N D release (GRCR-009), the B-side of Snapback Balaclava is a Great Circles extended family affair with a trio of diverse remixes that expose and exploit fragments of the chaos Chaperone so carefully contained.

Hitoshi Kojima (Thrive) reinterprets Pulse Feels Swells Beating with relentless syncopated rhythms and synth lines that hang like massive string drones. M//R lays down a signature percussion ensemble palette, zeroes in on otherwise peripheral elements of Grit Neglect, and then deftly navigates sea change with both. Matt Korvette and Sean McGuinness of Philly punk band Pissed Jeans open up the pit and finish the story, taking Femur Baseball Bat to its literal and brutal potential with monstrous vocals and kicks.

rRoxymore returns with the latest instalment in her Thoughts of an Introvert series. The first part, which hit stores in 2017, was born out of introspection and a yearning for solitude. Tracks like 'Prodrome,' which refers to symptoms indicating the early onset of an illness, seemed to reflect a global weariness, a head-nodding, late night search for comfort and respite. On part 2 though, a new energy is evident in the tracks.

'This Is Not What You Think' shrugs and fizzes with resilience, it feels like a maniacal, primal release from frustration and anguish. 'Run... Feet' finds an even more optimistic, upbeat bounce, not far from the stomping house euphoria of her first outing for DBA, Organ Smith, but with the newfound confidence of an artist who is pushing both technology and style to the outer limits. 'Mythical Technology', meanwhile, is a dancefloor-ready paean to techno's own futurist manifesto.

Transcendent records is proud to present a new immersive cinematic techno release by a French producer who goes under the name of Ersatz Olfolks. Some might already know him from previous releases on Singular Records and Cheap. For a producer with only two records behind him we think he already has a bright voice within the overcrowded musical techno landscape. Heliopolis is the city of the sun and was the theological center of the greatest sun temple of pharaonic times. The sunrays bring brightness but we also find ourselves in the darkest ominous shades of an eclipse. We were instantly captivated by his contra dictionary sound that is filled with subtle harmonic distortions and sophisticated melodic and evolving modular patterns. A five track EP from new UK-based label Uncertainty Principle. fft1 is the first record under the FFT moniker for a young producer who has been making various names for himself for five years now. fft1 combines super tight high-tech production with '90s bleep and rave stylings to bring a unique experimental electro/techno sound which sits nicely alongside techno, electro and ghetto-tech in the mix. Chevel gives the prism-pushers at Mumdance & Logos' Different Circles their first album release with Always Yours, a slanted new take on the 'weightless' paradigm, floating somewhere between headspaces associated with the styles of Lee Gamble, Actress and Logos.
Paradoxically the longest and yet most minimalistic release on Different Circles to date, Always Yours says its piece in succinct yet expansive terms, rendering precisely tooled rhythms and technoid motifs in acres of suspenseful emulated space in a way that connects the brutally efficient dynamic of late '90s tech-step with a Raster Noton-like appreciation of pointillist reduction.
In that imagined space Chevel moves like a Soviet gymnast or Prototype robot fluidly executing a demanding routine full of intricate, rigid steps. From the ambient airlock of One Evening In July he pulls off the aerobic mid-air rolige of The Call, which comes off like a syncopated Sleeparchive workout, before twysting into the knotted quasi-step of Bullet and stepping into hyperspace on Arp 2600.
Another ambient interlude Warming Bath returns the LP to balmier states, before the jagged pulse of Data Recovery pulls back into the dance like a virulent Alva Noto piece, and Dem Drums pitch to the rave's darker side, but ultimately the lushly self-explanatory

while the B-side's Charybdis tests out a more mercurial, fluid blend of rolling 180bpm jungle breaks and uncannily naif vocal from Panacea-collaborator, Hanayo.

Präsens Editionen is very excited to present the new LP of Berlin based musician Brendan Dougherty. Economy and Failureis a work stemming from two tumultuous years for the artist: births, deaths and other big changes. The music was made in hotel rooms, airports, cafes and various studios using a basic setup of laptop and headphones.
In contrast to Dougherty's 2016 LP Sensate (Entr'acte), which used heavy synth patterns to create jittering rhythmic pulses without drum sounds, Economy and Failure sees the drums return on longer arrangements that bear some resemblance to techno. These tracks are interspersed with shorter études in texture and pulse. The resulting pattern heightens the tension between minimalism and emotional depth, making Economy and Failure a peculiar and poetic piece that the artist himself counts as his most direct and emotionally connected yet.

Lena Willikens is the kind of artist who's only capable of following one path - her own. In many ways, she's the archetypal selector, an unpredictable DJ who often eschews all notions of genre in favor of what she describes as different temperatures, different time zones, different moods and a healthy portion of chaos.' Although her methods have certainly proven effective on the dancefloor, Willikens also refuses to be bound by its traditional limitations.

That willingness to buck convention also extends to this compilation, as the German DJ and celebrated Salon des Amateurs resident has elected to stock her contribution to the Selectors series with a surprising number of previously unreleased tracks. I've been playing most of these songs for a while now,' she explains. I benefit from my friends and colleagues who constantly send me their unreleased music. Now I want to give something back by sharing these tracks with everybody.'

Nevertheless, those looking for vintage gems won't be disappointed, as Willikens has also included a handful of oddball favorites from her record bag. At the same time, she's made a point to avoid notably rare and expensive tunes. There are already enough passionate people out there doing a great job digging and reissuing,' she says. Instead, her curatorial instincts have taken her in a much more conceptual direction, which she describes as a little trip through the dunes.' She adds, It might be challenging to walk or dance on the sand, so perhaps it's more comfortable to lay down and glide along without having a certain destination in mind.'

VENT forges new alliances, as Dee Grinski and Tolga Baklacioglu joins forces to explore musical synergies on a collaborative LP release of drone alchemy, eternal rhythms and harrowing vocalisations, which explores the lightless mazes of subconscious voids, teasing at barely understood taboos. Tolga's past explorations of unrelenting industrial sounds are further refined, and enforced with Dee's vocal talent that covers a wide range of expression - from commanding and authoritative to harrowing howls of disembodied despair. They invite us to come with on a journey towards the lightless fringes of cognisance.

Finnish band Jesse makes unsentimental and innovative music. What you hear on 'Fluids', released as a 12inch picture disc album on Hoga Nord Rekords, is the sounds of four creative brains' journey into the music universe of the future. Their music is influenced by earth and space - Jesse's astral and cosmic disco is prospective, totally boundless, and vibrant of life and blood. The production sounds luxurious and helps the psychedelic qualities to shine through the sound.

Jesse, who with their first releases some ten years ago played fast and arrogant synth based music, now picks up influences from afro beat, funk and ambient but they've kept the electronic core of their sound - simple chord structures rest upon cool synthesized waves of sound, like a glider carried upwards on the thermals between the summits of the Andes. Soft, pliable and mighty!

Jesses music is dreamy but not unworldly and one thing that makes them special is their ability to place the listener on the edge of their safety zone. There, in the frontier, they explore the possibilities of cross over music.

In a scenario of overwhelming number of instruments, musicians often do not take the time to deepen and explore the creative possibilities of each gear they possess. One Instrument aims at counter-acting this tendency by challenging and limiting each artist in producing a composition by using only one instrument of their choice.

The LP opens with a composition by In Bloom, the new project of Martino Bertola, who drives us directly into a melodic ambience. To follow it is the dense, polyrhythmic experiment by Fabian Kempe's project 'Korridor'. Serena Butler's piece is built around spacey sounds and breezy rhythms.

Yhdessa, the newly born Dutch-Italian duo formed by Grand River (Aimee Portioli) and Enrica Falqui, leans towards ambient atmospherics and ominous sonorities with a refined Northern European touch. Yair Elazar Glotman ventures us across his contrabass player skills giving an acoustic touch to the record.

Swedish producer, Fjader (Ida Matsdotter), handles the flip with a moody techno cut filled with evasive analog acutes.

Claudio PRC delivers an electroacoustic soundscape created with a tiny, graceful drone machine.

The Dutch duo, Wanderwelle, closes the LP with a dreamy and delicate excursion evoking the mysterious sides of nature.

* After two years of the "Anubi" released, awaited return on the Italian duo Beat Movement has embarked a new journey in Berlin and unveils this landmark sequel under Luciano Lamanna's Love Blast, among their own label Dlbm. the duo has released Ep's collaborating various artists like Endlec and Umwelt. Moving into the future sound, Beat Movement envisions a new era of dynamic techno by curating futuristic and punchy form of music dismissing the most commonly used of dark frequencies which break all the usual boundaries of techno music. Entrainment is a futuristic prodigy with hypnotic synthesis, syncopated basses, and progressing into intense rhythms that will encapsulate the mind and body, transporting it to a full-blown raving era.

Following the surprise release of his Slow Fade EP last month, Daniel Avery presents a collection of remixes from Surgeon, Actress and Inga Mauer. The remix EP will be released digitally and on 12' vinyl on March 9th.

Widely regarded as one of UK electronic music's leading lights and arguably the finest techno DJ in the world' (FACT), with a career spanning over 20 years, Surgeon lends his clinical touch to 'Radius', adding an erratic, propulsive beat to Avery's warm synth layers for one of his best remixes yet.

Werkdiscs head Actress meanwhile delivers a pared back and introspective rework of 'Slow Fade', shrouding the synth refrain in hypnotic, distorted production, in his first remix following the release of his critically acclaimed 2017 album AZD.

Bunker Records' Inga Mauer completes the package, offering a claustrophobic mix pierced with metallic shards that confirms what Resident Advisor said of the uncompromising Russian-born Amsterdam-based DJ and producer last year: Mauer is destined for big things.'

Wata Igarashi's flourishing recognition as a producer with striking competence and flair has marked him as a valuable affiliate on the record. He demonstrates different areas of focus with two new versions of Black Massing. The Daylight Breaks Remix opens up the high-end, expressing the delicate harmonics of the original with rushing upward arpeggios. The Dusk Falls Remix instead hones in on the deep and anticipatory nature of its foundation.

Marco Shuttle's foreboding Morning Star remix feels skilfully subtractive, magnifying elements by adding space and drawing focus to its melodic asides. Function plays with the contemplative nature of Down in his version, adding dynamic percussion and energy while retaining its expression and depth.

Oscar Mulero presents: 'Perfect Peace'. Don't expect dancefloor burners here, this time the spanish techno master goes deep and low, exploring sonic textures, low BPM grooves and the intelligent side of electronic music. Melodies, pads, drones and grooves collide in this soulful collection, conceived to be listened as a soundtrack. Oscar is not new to this sounds, in his Grey Fades To Green or Muscle and Mind albums he showcased his abilities in this field as well as with his Av projects Biolive and Monochrome. A new step in Oscar Mulero's ever growing career, showing his studio skills and music taste, far beyond his role as a fundamental techno dj.

* Taking its title from a Minoan legend that deals with rage, greed and destruction, the latest release from Abyss X expands and reconstructs conceptions of aural space and time. Out on February 16 on Danse Noire, Pleasures of the Bull finds the multi-disciplinary artist and producer flirting with the sounds of hard jazz while mystifying the parameters of experimental music across several distinct movements, thus allowing the listener to break free from their sonic principles.
* Intoxicating, ambient textures mesh with Abyss X's own expressive vocals, as well as the sounds of the traditional Cretan lyra, played by Maria Skoula. Her sound modification creates a collage of temporalities - allow yourself to move outside linear dimensions, and her to confide in you. Prog rock guitar lines twist stolidly beneath warped vocal samples, and the timbre of the bowed lyra permeates the atmosphere in a thick, suffocating haze.

Abyss X delves into the fullness of her craft, drawing from her background in theater and performance, in addition to the frenzied energy of her live shows as a musician. The music throbs with a frantic yet unmistakably deliberate drama. Pleasures of the Bull feels like a gentle punch in the gut; a compelling auditory performance and a bold exploration of the narrative album format.

Coldgeist's music on Unknown Bodies is an intimate reinterpretation of coldwave, techno and dark ambient codes, uttered with strength, guts, and an underlying romantic soul. Inspired by nocturnal runs of "bosozoku" bikers clans, who stem from this japanese subculture of the late seventies ; Coldgeist has created a series of soundscapes and songs that evoke speeding through foggy nights and fluorescent lights. Haunting repetitions and stiffness of the rhythms as a metaphor of mechanical gestures, of bodies turned into units of consumption, stranded from the life and passion they crave. The frustration of a youth that only finds relief in extreme experiences, danger, and the sexual tension of speed and crashes. With analog and digital instruments, field recordings but also his own voice and songs, Coldgeist has bred a truly unique record.

It's been a long time coming digging through the archives, legendary UK acid don Luke Vibert drops an exquisite solo record on the Belgian De:tuned label. On 'pHlacid' and 'Arcadia' Luke shows off his ability to produce funky yet quirky acid tracks that will put a smile on your face. Both 'Balath' and 'Worry Ledge' are intense uptempo electro workouts with enough 303 squelch to melt your brain, proper warehouse vibes!

Chicago's Jamal Moss moves further up his mysterious path towards unknown planets with new punchy tracks for Cejero. Using his The Sun God moniker Moss has once again set out to hypnotize dancers and make listeners jack.

The A-side was recorded in Copenhagen, November 2014, while the B-side is a studio recording done back in Chicago.

New York City has had a long history of dance music fused with confrontational performance. Whether it came from within the late 70's No Wave canon projected through venues like the Mudd Club or the downtown avant-garde galleries such as The Kitchen, the feeling that influences and infects Brooklyn-based duo Wetware's overall being as a cohesive and confrontational unit is as much enigmatic as it is familiar. Formed in 2015, Wetware eased into its performative role with their live shows around their home base of Brooklyn, NY.

Vocalist Roxy Farman, who's familiar voice was last seen on Drew McDowall's 'Unnatural Channel' album, stole audience's attention from the moment they started, using her body in tandem with her voice as a weaponised vehicle for the band's anxiety filled performance. Matthew Morandi cut his teeth in the electronic music world through his solo tech-industrial project Jahiliyya Fields and partner to Inhalants, the techno collaboration of Morandi and Max Ravitz (Patricia). The synergy that developed between Farman and Morandi has been explosive. Wetware's live antics and behaviour has caused alarm and envy amongst their local audiences, causing Wetware the group to 'not be missed' on any particular bill that they are allowed to take part in.


Wetware stepped out from their live persona and self-recorded a selection of songs that viewers had grown accustomed to and were debuted on the flawlessly curated Primitive Languages imprint. Shortly following their recorded premier was an EP collection of demo recordings on the much praised Bank NYC label. Once the band reconciled with documenting their work, they set out, with the help of engineer Kris Lapke (Alberich / Hospital Productions) to formalise their most recent output in the context of their first full length album entitled 'Automatic Drawing'.

Given Wetware's penchant for endurance, as displayed by their 3 hour long production at Koenig & Clinton Gallery in the Summer of 2017, one would expect the usual restlessness on Wetware's debut full length. All of the apprehension and unease in Wetware seems to have been channeled into a string of cohesive electronic statements found on songs 'Frequent Dreamlands' and 'Ode to Joe'. Industrial dance rhythms bounce around Farman's poetic stance on 'Where Ever You Were', causing flashbacks of an early 80's dystopia that jumps around a confusing, uncomfortable backdrop. Inter-spliced with modular electronic instrumentals like the album's opener 'Pantomime', Wetware's devastating portrait is that of a society in peril.
