Dobr EP

BONDAGE-MUSIC
15.08.2019

With releases on the likes of Organic Music, Housewax and (djebali), plus a string of stand-out EP’s via their own labels Sintope and Sintope Digital, Timisoara’s NTFO have established themselves as key names within the realm of minimal and deep house since making their production debut back in early 2008.

Having released their ‘Esperantza’ EP on the label last year, here we see the pairing return to Bondage Music in fine form to open their account in 2019 with the impressive ‘Dobr’. Title cut ‘Dobr’ opens the EP as the duo quickly go to work, introducing a slick blend of sharp drum shots amongst snaking bassline patterns, whilst ‘Blissed Out’ combines organic percussion licks, punch low end tones and warping synth leads to great effect.Next, the first vinyl only track on the package ‘Riddin’ welcomes dubby pads and crisp hats before flowing steadily into the slinking, metallic tones and 303-tinged bass stabs found throughout ‘Standers’.

23.01.2020

The second release on Artefakt's De Stijl expands the sound of the imprint introducing three new names to the catalog. The record ascends into a subterranean rave with Aphelions' 'Temple 7' depicting a ritualistic gathering carved out in distorted analog transients, shimmering melodies and modulated voices moving over deep pounding sub frequencies. Label founders Artefakt sustain the urgency on the A side with 'Agents Of Reality', a high energy uncompromised off-beat structure venturing into eery resonant pads gravitating towards a subdued acid motive. Energy shifts towards subsonic atmospheres takes place on the B side, as Artificial Drm envelops the listener in a layered driven spectacle with his heady piece 'Human With No Name'. From the residual hiss and feedback tones of the B1, Northern Electronics affiliate Korridor emerges with an epic ambient piece titled 'VI'. Lush pads and analog square bass-lines drift off into rhythmical arpeggiations bringing a close

David Löhlein - VISION I - NYSA EP

David Löhlein debuts on the new Vision Ekstase label with four hypnotic techno tracks entitled

„VISION I – NYSA“.

The club-oriented and rhythm-heavy EP opener „Altai“ features a hypnotic vocal sample fused with stabbing modulations maintaining a constant drive best suited for peak-time purposes before ‘Morava’ continues with vibrant synth walls and stabs, euphoric pads in the distance and resonating frequencies.

On the flip, „Red Code“ starts with clap-heavy and groove-infused percussion above the growling oscillations throughout until „Six Nine“ rounds things off with innovative synth compositions, stirring resonations and clattering drums providing a driving rhythm within.

Amandra & Mattheis - Ventriloquist Chant EP

"Mattheis and Amandra collaborate for Ahrpe on their Ventriloquist Chant EP. While the Nous'klaer affiliated artist is commonly known for his tension building synth lines and rich atmospheres, the Ahrpe co-founder has turned his percussion and complex bass line programming into its very own distinctive art form. Their debut EP consists of four tracks, exploring the spectrum of their approach on synths and percussions, and displaying the result of a collaboration between two established artists that yet sound like they were meant to cross each other's paths.

Sascha Dive / Frink / Toman / Philipp Gonzales - Bondage Games Pt. 5

Bondage Music reveals the latest installment in its 'Bondage Games' series this March as Sascha Dive, Frink, Toman and Philipp Gonzales deliver four original compositions for Part 5.
Launched in 2008, German imprint Bondage Music has established itself as quintessential imprint for many within the world of stripped back, high quality house music, releasing material from the likes of Mihai Popoviciu, NTFO, Markus Homm and Tuccillo across the past 12 months alone. Their 'Bondage Games' series has also become a key fixture in the calendar, and here we see the label follow up their 2018 instalment with another vinyl only EP this March, with four fresh productions from Sascha Dive, Frink, Toman and Philipp Gonzales.
Frankfurt's Sascha Dive opens the package with 'Dark Night', a slick house cut guided by deep, dubby chords and entrancing vocals, before Frink's bubbling 'Vega' ups the energy and welcomes bright melodies amongst rolling percussion. Next, emerging talent Toman fuses skipping hats and a heady low-end groove as he reveals 'Time To Time', before Philipp Gonzales combines hypnotic lead synths, refined percussion arrangements and suspenseful builds throughout 'Open Hips'.

OCTAL INDUSTRIES - OUR SEASONS 2x12"

Originally a collaboration that started in 2004 between the talents of electronic music aficionados Michael Sickinger (USA) and Jonas Thor Gudmundsson (Iceland), Octal Industries has been sketching out cavernous sounding, glacial tinged, dub-infused techno that carries with it a unique radiance that is all too often missing from the genre. Now solely the oeuvre of Jonas Thor Gudmundsson better known under his Ruxpin guise, the Octal Industries catalogue spans over the last 15 years and totals nearly a dozen releases.

After a couple of meetings between Jamie (Exalt Records) and (Andy Verdant Recordings) bosses, the idea of a label collaboration seemed a natural progression for both imprints and ‘Vertex’ was spawned. To honour their common love of music that have depth, width and atmosphere, approaching Gudmundsson for material to kickstart their new venture was an easy choice for both involved.

As the title suggests, “Our Seasons” is a 10 track excursion into the soul of the Icelandic experience, a reflection upon the stark contrasts found in their natural environment. A collection of music that continuously morphs and throws down a variety of tempos and soundscapes over two records: the total sum retains a certain character that is unique to Gudmundsson’s touch.

Setting the scene on record one with the welcoming tones of “Borg Tekin”, you’re met with an expansive sonic vista that seeps into your consciousness - vocal elements calling back and forth. Like the passing of a restless midsummer night, “Thorp | Vanda” digs further down and focuses on the pulsating axis of sub bass and swirling pads that eventually find their peace. The heavy fog of “Roblegt” is more intense by contrast, the cyclical ambience closing in with little room as tension builds. “Dreki Flyr” eases back off: gentle curves, whispering synth patterns and rhythmic patter join as they flit through the night-air.

Switching to the second record, expansive percussion and glistening atmospherics characterise the dreamlike state and playfulness of “Forever”. After which you’re brought back by the slow march of “Winter Techno”, a reflective mood brought to the fore through icy shards of synthesis that take hold. As if waking from a deep slumber, the slow poise and airy tones of “Asleep” capture that peaceful, hazy moment where light breaks in and life begins to stir. The onwards and upwards feel is continued with the fresh energy of “Another Day”, the breezy composition bathing you in the warm glow of a summer’s morning. However, the juddering intensity and tones of “Lullaby” steep you in an almost unexpected surge of heat, before the closing notes of “Times fade” bring you back to an uneasy serenity that is somehow magically unerring – a perfect summary of Gudmundsson’s vision and how he feels the world around him.

Jonas’ recordings have been lovingly engineered by José Diogo Neves and cut by Curvepusher. Consistent with both labels passion for releasing beautiful records, Our Seasons presents commissioned artwork from Andrei Kedrin with layout by Grid Pattern.

The LP will be a limited 250 edition with bespoke artwork printed on 400gsm paper inserts, printed labels, stamped outer sleeves all housed in heavy PVC outer liners.

Back in 2015, two of Sweden's most coveted electronic music producers quietly collaborated.

The duos outcomes where complied and made available via a trifling 20 self release tapes, circulated by the two during an event in Lithuania.

Ever since copies have traded hands in second hand market for staggering prices and cassette tape rips of the release have been circulating the web - one of these caught the attention of Vaagner, a label dedicated to reissuing noteworthy cassette releases from around the globe.

What makes the release so special is its expressiveness, the duo originally used the tape medium to explore various facets of their sound, resulting in an explorative release that feels both invigorating and reflective.

Now 3 years later, Vaagner is proud to present it's 3rd release, a reissue of Acronym and Korridor's seminal untitled cassette, made available digitally and on vinyl for the first time, re-mastered by Rashad Becker, featuring bespoke artwork and including an unreleased bonus track from the duo which was conceived during the time of the original release.

OutpostLive - Tacita Muta EP

called OutpostLive to tell the tale of the Goddess Tacita, the female personification of eternal silence.

The myth was told for the first time by Ovid. Lala (which in Greek means to speak) was a beautiful girl courted by Jupiter, who punished her for having revealed their romance to his sister. She had her tongue cut off by lightning and was condemned to silence forever. Then she was sent to the kingdom of the Underworld accompanied by Mercury. OutpostLive reenacts this ancient Roman myth and guides us on an enchanting and magical journey to the Underworld.

"Fiore Bianco" evokes the voices of dead souls arising from the obscure abysses, broken only by some pads and harmonies. Norbak, on the other hand, brings a brief glimmer of light into Tacita's underground journey with its strident and brilliant sounds, a metaphor for Jupiter's bolt lightning. The plot then thickens with "Sacri Misteri", with its insistent bass channeling Tacita into a vortex of flames.

The escape route is finally offered by Ness, who brings Tacita back to the surface. The journey ends on an ethereal note, thanks to repeated sounds and rhythms, suspended between earth and sky.

- Homo Homini Lupus -

NOTE:
The black 12" vinyl, 140 grams, is presented inside a matte black and scratch-resistant cover that frontally presents an illustration hand-made by the Italian artist Roberto Mulliri which through Indian Ink technique depicts a scene taken from the myth of the Tacita Muta, the artwork is inspired by the music contained within the vinyl. On the back of the cover there are tracklist, the credits, the label's motto and the Lykos Records logo placed centrally below.

solid silver vinyl Repress

Aleksei Nikitin, whose first release kindled the GOST ZVUK history (and whose brilliantly sparkish "Ledyanoy Album" was issued on the label a couple of years ago), goes back to Ground Zero after his trilogy on Figure and REKIDS' "Atoner" LP. All four tracks of the eighth GOST INSTRUMENT's vinyl present a rather way-out approach, surprisingly uncommon for Aleksei's form style. But this seemed minimalism tends to be valid only at first glance. Starting from plain rhythm, "Elektromechanika's" further groove is drifting on lots of tousled synths. "Far Voices", an exercise in interweaving of echoes and voice samples, ends right at the moment when you expect track's next iteration. The B-side is not without surprises too: the acid beat of "Oasis" rises almost suddenly after drone-alike "Monothone". Summarizing all the above, getting into this record is not only the extremely clear case, but you should also try to play it from random track, or even in "B2-A1" order.

Vatican Shadow - Kneel Before Religious Icons

Before another Vatican Shadow release appears on vinyl for the first time early next year, Hospital Productions reissue a killer 2011 tape release on a 2019 vinyl pressing after appearing on a long
sold-out LP edition for Type in 2012 Remastered and slightly edited from the original 4 x tape boxset, ‘Kneel Before Religious Icons’
reasserts its place in the pantheon of Vatican Shadow’s prized early releases which, with the benefit of hindsight, arguably amount to one of this past decade’s definitive projects.

Originally recorded in 2010, the album’s eight tracks revolve some of the first material recorded by Dominick Fernow in this mode, aside from his then better known work as Prurient. At the time, Fernow was still working under cover of anonymity and this release in particular only aided in heightening the intrigue and fascination surrounding this project and the way it eerily resonated with the both the redrawing of geopolitical borders and those between industrial, ambient, noise and techno styles.

The album contains one of the most valued VS outings in Worshippers At The Same Mosque’, with its pall of synth pads, needly harpsichord and stepping drums patently influenced by Muslimgauze,
while the parade ground trample of ‘Church Of All Images’ - which would form the basis for a now classic Regis remix issued by Blackest Ever Black - adds up to one of the project’s most militant
numbers along with the scudding, bombed-out terrain of ‘Gods Representative on Earth’ and ’Shooter In The Same Uniform as The Soldiers’.

As an historic document of the time and a gripping album in its own right, ‘Kneel Before Religious Icons’ holds tight among Vatican Shadow’s most crucial and convincing communiques.

Following his remix of Len Faki on FIGUREX08, Benjamin Damage now fully signs for an EP with the label. Here he shows just what is defining his sound as a singular artist.

Known for weaving together the various threads in UK club music, this EP is tied it all up together. There‘s the rolling sound, so deep and dramatic, the signature that first got him credited. Then the record picks up old themes of early Bass music, playing wonky horns and nodding respect to South London‘s burrows.

On the flip we get treated to a more dreamy and introspective side of Damage‘s sound, one genuinely exploring the melodic trope, yet without losing the steady groove forward. Finally closing the EP out with a mighty roar, the ultimate track is bellowing and bustling with rhythms, like a beast of creativity trying to break loose.

Bondage Music label-founders Pornbugs return to the imprint this September with their 'Pacho' EP, backed with remixes from Pablo Bolivar and Phillipp Gonzales.

Leipzig/Berlin based duo Pornbugs make a welcome return to their own label here with two new original cuts, 'Pacho' opens the package with stripped-back drums, a bulbous bass line and choppy piano chords running alongside a bubbling arpeggio lead and tension building stab sequences. Pablo Bolivar's 'Rawmake' of 'Pacho' follows, edging things into deeper territory with dropped tempo dusty drums, airy pads and an amalgamation of wandering, resonant synth lines.

The second half of the release, pencilled for release as vinyl only features another original from Pornbugs, entitled 'Larica' and featuring a similar aesthetic to the lead with fluttering dubby chords, a refined drum groove and unfolding atmospherics carrying the groove before label regular Phillipp Gonzales turns in his remix to complete the package, taking things in a more raw direction with heavily swung crunchy drums, pulsating filtered stabs and billowing vocal murmurs.

Following up his pair of cryptically luminous EPs for Northern Electronics in the past years, Evigt Morker presents his debut album, Krona. With a shuffling atmosphere that's hard to pin down, the album chronically fixates on the degradation and construction of rhythmic drills with finely rendered parts and patterns. Spiralling the listener through a set of stormy soundscapes, Krona keeps placing the horizon just ahead, and just out of reach. The unease that Evigt Morker invites us into is electrically charged and threatening to crack. For all its syncopation we are relentlessly swerving through the works, afraid of teasing an arcing static shock from the blistering commotion. The album's propulsive tracks are settled against a pair of stunning ambient compositions that capture some of the tension from a distance. Technical dexterity and perfectly pitched intensity stakes out Evigt Morker's debut album as an impressive statement.

Purveyors of contemporary electronic music Anagram return with their second remix EP that calls upon some of the scene's most compelling and uncompromising names. Coalescence, the next chapter from the label, will unfold as a series of remix EP's reinforcing the labels core values of community, togetherness and growth. The first instalment reflects on their previous three releases reimagining four titles under the controls of Drugstore resident Tiljana T, Ostgut Ton legend Ryan Elliot, Klockworks artist Newa and the Tel Aviv based Yotam Avni. Orchestrating the rework of Elad Magdasi's 'Liquid Dreams' is Serbian talent Tiljana T who runs with the cinematic ideas behind the original but uses snapping hits, ebullient bass notes and plenty delay to fuel the cut with a new lease of life. The accompanying A-side sees Ryan Elliott do what Ryan Elliot does best by keeping things straight up four to the floor transforming 'Sound of the Siren' by Barbara Ford into pulsating peak hour material. On the flip side are two remixes taken from label co-founder Sinfol's latest solo EP 'Pull Back'. First up, Newa gets the blood rushing injecting breaking beats and furious energy into 'Life Of Measure' resulting in a high tempo no-nonsense techno affair that embodies the sound of the bustling Tbilisi scene. Tying together Coalescence Vol. I is arguably the most dynamic choice of the four remixes in Yotam Avni's 'Final Push' Remix. With a meticulous assortment of intricately crafted synth lines and sequences, he manages to deconstruct Sinfol's title cut of its acid workouts and replenish it with an equally rivalled amount of energy. 2x12" !

An der Grenze (ADG) is glad to introduce you to its 5th release "Talka" on 2 x 12" (ADG005) by Moscow- based composers, live performers & DJs OID & Anrilov, and revisited by Unbroken Dub.

Whereas OID, a versatile artist, has made a name for himself with releases on DJ Koze's PAMPA, Milnormodern and PNN, Anrilov releases here his first solo track. Unbroken Dub, for his part, already has a significant experience with multiple releases on Rawax as well as solo EPs on Delsin and Resonance Moscow, amongst others.

On vinyl 1, each artist presents his own version of "Talka". Whereas OID proposes a dark, mind-blowing and bewitching version, Anrilov opts for a rather cadenced, breakbeat and mystic one.

On vinyl 2, Unbroken Dub delivers two different interpretations of "Talka". On the A-side, his Refix is deep, linear and mystic whereas, on the B-side, his remix appears to be the best musical translation of his artist name: serene and dubby.

Ulla Straus / Oceanic - Plafond 4

Ulla Straus/Oceanic

Plafond 4

BAKK
06.11.2019

The fourth Plafond sees fine-crafted contrasting pieces complement each other in courtesy of Ulla Straus and Oceanic. Along the wide arbitrary landscape of listening or 'ambient' music, it is a delight to have two artists, separated by the vast Atlantic, contributing quite opposite interpretations of such to the series. Perceptual time feels as a recurrent theme which binds them, albeit in a whole different modus operandi. In her iconic tactile productions, Straus excavates levels of advanced musical complexity in the seemingly most simple. Throughout two tracks her crude and beautiful technique riffles, compositions that remain prone to the transient, combining field recordings with morphing saxophone and guitar. This is deeply evocative music that turns its recipient into a mode of contemplation. 'I Forgot to Take a Picture' breathes melancholic romanticism, 'Becoming Warm' feels lorn yet hopeful. Pastoral haze over a rouge-tainted barren, the crackling insides of a wooden forest house. Picturesque and minimalist, Pennsylvania's Straus manages to temporarily stop the sand from gravitating downwards. Oceanic antagonises Straus with the triptych 'Three Sides of a Shell', recalling different emotions adhering to the fourth dimension. As a performing artist Oceanic masters the element of suspense. Here, over the course of nineteen minutes, a three-note sequence is explored within the producers imaginatory, chapterised, providing moments to navigate through his fictitious galaxy. Stuttering melodies across azure waters, synthesised bleeps as flickering stars over a moonlit mountain pass. Oceanic's music feels advanced through actively incorporating contemporary futurism, whilst never losing the glacial glance that is so familiar to its early nineties foregoers. It is as if listening to 'Three Sides...' heightens the senses, towards possibility, innovation even, triggering illusions of time dilation, shattering the hourglass. Comes in hand printed dreamy, pink sleeve, including Obi-strip, by the BAKK Innerspace Ink Station.

Monoloc & Beauty of Inconsequenz - Storyline EP

Sascha Borchardt (a.k.a Monoloc) will start a label, Unterland, with a new EP.

The label will serve as a vehicle through which the German producer takes a step away from the club environment by presenting new sonic interpretations, including experimental, minimalist, and atmospheric. Material will come from Monoloc himself and friends, and the focus will be on 'dramatic' sounds with drone and noise influences. Think movie soundtracks and film music, albeit with both feet planted in the electronic genre. Each release will aim to 'tell a story' through 8 to 10 productions.

Unterland will launch in end of march 2018 with a collaborative EP by Monoloc and Beauty of Inconsequenz, a unsearchable and unidentified project with no previous recording history. The eight tracks are all based heavily on field recordings; the sound is dark and deeply atmospheric with dubstep influences. While distanced somewhat from the 4/4 format, the tracks are cerebral and hypnotic.

From there on, there will be 3-4 releases per year, each of which will be accompanied by high quality artwork as curated by Borchardt, who will work closely with selected photographers and artists to provide imagery that aesthetically compliments the music.
