The fourth collection of cuts from Various Artists of The Black Lodge multiverse. The first sound offering on side A comes The Poetic Painter M, an avatar of Chicago pioneer and visionary Traxx, aka Melvin Oliphant III, head of Nation Records and sub-labels Kode & Dirty Blends. A2 comes from Chilean born sonic explorer Pablo R. Ruiz, who resides in the sacred lands of Detroit and has a number of releases on Portage Garage Sounds. The flip side begins with an acidic banger from Midwest producer/engineer Grey People who has numerous releases on great labels such as Frigio Records, Valcond Video, Public System Recordings, and others. B2 is an experimental mind-bender from Bay City, Michigan artist Fashion Flesh aka John Talaga, a true gear head who makes his own electronic equipment, oscillators, generators, sound toys, and modulators and has released on cult labels such as Unknown Precept and Fit Sound (Est. 83'Records), among others. The EP ends with a beautiful piece defying genres from Fauna53, a collective of electronic artists from Italy, headed by Asymmetrical who runs Raw Culture Records).

Moonhaven EP is the new release from Newrhythmic Recs, a work that emphasizes the label's philosophy of providing the scene with a stimulating, forceful, and seamless sound. Moonhaven EP is characterized by its intensity, its rhythmic complexity, and its futuristic sound, a further demonstration of the respect for the roots of pure techno. And to finish, Filip Xavi gives us a perfect composition, which brilliantly concludes the Moonhaven concept. Every note, every arrangement is correctly designed to put an end to a first-rate techno concept.

My Own Jupiter is run by Uruguayan expats Nicolas and Edurne Lutz, the former a respected DJ on the Berlin circuit affiliated with Sleepers, Toi Toi Musik and Club Der Visionaere. He here presents a four-disc vinyl package from homeboy Franco Digregorius, which follows up Australian producer Little Nobody's prior release. Said to be compiled from productions spanning the last decade, the album covers several variations on the electro sound but often delivered in rather inventive formats and with some funny titles. There's some aquatic electro funk stylings on "Ladyes & Gentelman From Montevideo Underground", the hilariously dark George W. Bush sampling "Mind Traveller" and the very hypnotic 13 minute long epic "Brain Washing".

Fisherman, Label Owner and Resident Dj of Sound Department (Taranto - Apulia), after the first Ep "Dancing with the Sharks" delivers 3 peak time electro tracks for the underground dancefloors. A must have!

Following on from his Mesh debut Jinjé returns with Escape from Luna, a four-track EP expanding further on the infinite sonic worlds of his solo production work.

Lead single and opening track ‘BBLO’ launches with a voyage into detailed textural layers, gliding through microscopic ambient-leaning compositions before dropping into a weighty electronic beat with touches of electro and dub.

As a founding member of the Leeds-based experimental band Vessels - an act acclaimed for their ability to defy categorisation - Lee Malcolm is no stranger to breaking the boundaries of genre. With his solo project, Jinjé, he delves into atypical sonic wanderings that navigate between acoustic and electronic, synthetic and organic, employing a learned ear for the fusion of seemingly disparate elements. For this latest release on Mesh, he hones in on these moments of coalescence, fusing various stylistic pieces together with an infectious sense of optimism and an open mind.

Jinjé steers his work across various genres not out of a desire to be referential, but out of a necessity to explore the peculiar spaces that sit between. Implementing this approach with a great understanding of musical production and spatial composition, ‘Escape from Luna’ stands as a crucial documentation of his craft.

We at WOD are privileged to be recipients of some amazing music, however, there are certain artists that take things to a different level. The attention to detail and more importantly the content of their expressive musical ability. Stu Crosbie is one such artist. Those who have yet to discover how good he is need to seek him and his music out. Absolutely superb!!! Stu has released on his own Dark Arts imprint and as Bespoke Cutter on Novac Music. Drift is a bona fide gem of rhythmic psychedelic electronic music, breaking down and projecting early trance, IDM and electronica ideas like a prism turning revealing a colorful spectrum of colours after being hit by light. With Echoes of Ego, the debut 12” on fleet.dreams’ newly formed Vinezza Records, the aim was to create an eclectic tapestry of magnetic rhythms that satisfied the listener equally in the club, a mix or at home. Insisting on sacrificing the mentality that dance music must follow a certain formula to be well received & instead pushing the envelope to challenge conventional notions of genre.

Semioptila sets the stage with a distinctively layered, percussive discussion. The seventh release on DJ Seinfeld’s Young Ethics imprint, sees Danish electronic music producer and multi-instrumentalist Sorenious Bonk, put forward an enrapturing LP of electronica and techno.

Originally classically trained in guitar and piano, Soren spent many years working to a strict regime, until he shifted into the electronic sphere and unlocked a new appreciation and direction with sound. He cut his teeth in the world of musical composition for film and television, notably contributing to the soundtrack of hit Netflix series “Sex Education” and has now turned his attention to a more electronically focussed output.

Touching on elements of ambient, electronica, indie-dance and techno, Soren shows an adept range throughout the LP, approaching electronic music from a new stand point and delivering a unique listening experience.

Sometimes, things "just happen". For months, we’d been working away on various projects and then, without really thinking about it, The Black EP just happened. It seemingly appeared from nowhere.

We’d been talking about the old days; making music with friends and dodgy kit, renting small practice rooms and using makeshift recording studios. It was such a common thing back then, you could pick a dusty space in a half-derelict building for as little as £25 a month. In those days, the Cabs and Human League had studios with posh-sounding names, but in reality, they were the same old workspaces long abandoned by the industries they were built for. Nevertheless, the grand names made them sound magical.

Sheffield had thousands of these spaces, and some still exist today, but their abundance and low-cost made Sheffield a very active place. Someone was always doing something. They’d exploded onto the scene in a flurry of excitement before disappearing just as quickly.

There’s something about these little mesters (workshops) that we believe lives in the very consciousness of Sheffield. It’s one of the reasons we never really had big scenes like Manchester or Leeds. The Hacienda would've never been built here.

We don’t really do big gangs or have that kind of mentality. We tend to exist in little pockets, often leaving each other alone. It would be 30 years before any member of The Black Dog talked to Cabaret Voltaire. Sure, we’d stood outside their practice room as kids, trying to listen in, but never felt any reason to approach. Sheffield is like that.

Once we had the first two tracks of the Black EP, we set off to see Jon at Do It Theesen, where he manually cut the tracks to an extremely limited set of 7" singles using a vinyl lathe. It just felt right to go back to the old ways; a small gang creating something special in workshops and sheds. There’s something very satisfying about it, a perfect circle, if you will.

We pushed further by adopting old practices, working with one synth per person and limiting the use of our computers. We only stopped short of putting everything on beer crates. It seems like madness these days, but there is raw creativity within these confines. Pretty much every band started this way. Depeche Mode travelled to the studio on the London Underground for their first appearance on Top Of The Pops, all lugging a synth each. That's how we approached the creation of this album; stripped back, raw and minimal - it just felt so right.

And then there’s the competitive element that was influenced when the original Human League split and became Human League MK II and Heaven 17. Both continued to use the same studio to write what became the albums "Dare" and "Penthouse and Pavement". There is something about that drive that is very Sheffield, just making stuff and hoping everything falls into place.
