Following their ongoing relationship with Soma Records, Ukrainian duo Woo York are set to release their new record that proves to be somewhat representative of recent dramatic events in their country. Entitled I Am Against, both the main track and the EP itself are referring to the developments that lead to revolutionary struggle of the Ukrainian people. Fighting inequality, saying what you have to say and doing what you have to do seem to be the core ideas of the record. You might have figured that out yourself by spotting a rebel protester from January's clash with riot police depicted on the record sleeve. The EP also features a special remix from UK Techno producer, Ø (Phase).

Music-wise the EP presents the same idea: the epic energy of the title track highlights the drive that was fuelling peaceful individuals to go out onto the streets and fight for their rights. An excellent remix from Ø (Phase) follows a similar path, although in its own original way that has made the UK-based artist's name associated with the finest techno to date. Closing the EP 'In The End' is a more abstract side of Woo York's music works that reminds us once again: every single act of violence is bound to come to an end at some point.

Fabrice Lig has melody running through his veins. On his quest to explore his deep love for the bitter-sweet yearning of Motor City techno, his tracks transcend trends. Over his three-decade spanning career he has refined his blend of soul-infused dance music to striking effect. His gift for a catchy hook is unmatched. His new studio album "The Mental Bandwidth" shows his musical range as a producer once again. On the album's twelve tracks, he effortlessly traverses, cosmic house, funkified techno and electronica, combining his trademark quirky melodies with playful songwriting and dance floor focused beats. The album format is giving Lig enough space to explore his musical ideas from different directions while staying true to the overall atmosphere. "The idea for the album was to go back to the fundamentals of the original Detroit sound and to find new ways of expressing that soul in my music - as I've been doing for years", explains Lig. With Ann Saunderson and the former Kraftwerk-member Wolfgang Flur, the album features two heavy-weight collaborations that connect the "The Mental Bandwidth" to Detroit's musical legacy, too. Slikk Tim aka Garry Grittness also has a cameo in the form of a funky bassline on "Healing", the pop-infused Ann Saunderson collaboration. The title of the album is inspired by Lig's lecture of Sendhil Mullainathan and Eldar Shafir book "Scarcity: Why Having So Little Means So Much" which explores new approaches to reduce poverty. "The authors discovered that the mental bandwidth of poor people is sometimes really low because of short term issues they are facing and are forced to solve", explains Lig. Those issues are reducing the mental bandwidth for long term thinking capacities, which in turn has consequences for the decision making process. An example: before the quality of education of poor kids is increased, the quality of life they have must be increased. This increases the capacities of the kids to learn more than solely better educational programs.

Brian Kage’s fourth release on Michigander Music “303 in the 313 EP” features 4 uniquely gritty and acid-soaked manifestations of mid 90’s Detroit. This exercise in analog monosynth mastery directly connects the grittiness of the urban landscape with the raw spirit of creative freedom.

Detroitasaurus starts the record off with a subtle prehistoric soundscape, steadily building rhythmic tension using hypnotic toms and melodic drum patterns. Razor sharp 909 hats hammer down there through the sonic mist as the journey continues to build. Shrieking jurassic trumpets cap off each of the peaking climbs to reveal metallic broken-down structures that are bound together with oscillating 303 threads and a grooving bassline.

Van Dyke Vessel features an atmosphere of textured percussion and metallic analog synths that wind around a deep square bass groove. Suddenly, truncated growling vocal samples start to collect into the catchy phrase “Let’s take this to outer space”. Swelling pads give way to squealing acid as this track transports dancers to a nostalgic melodic dimension.

Delray Dance undulates with thick bass slowly building into a body focused groove as it winds up and gives way to a rugged 303 saw with fluttering Spanish style synth stabs. Classic Detroit pads continue to swell, adding to the tension and leaving enough sonic space for melodic mixes in and out. This tune is the perfect tool to transition between genres.

Philippe Petit celebrates 10 years of his label Knotweed Records, delivering a 3-tracker infused with house and techno influences

Belgian techno OG Fabrice Lig returns to Systematic with one of his most personal and moving EPs to date: ‘Black Monday’ His most substantial release on Marc Romboy’s label since his ‘Purple Raw’ series a few years back, each track is written as a special tribute to four people who’ve had a massively positive impact on Fabrice’s life, but have sadly since passed on. Expressing himself in the most honest, articulate way he can, this one runs deeper than deep.

‘Jim The Magnificent Fox’ is a dark, strident tribute to FlashForward resident Christophe Adam. A doctor in criminology and psychology, an exceptional DJ and a dear friend to Fabrice, you can feel the emotion on every jagged edge.

‘Mr Wa’ follows. Striking poses at every possible opportunity, this dedication to an old school friend in his hometown Charleroi. Bright, breezy and laced with movement and variation, it’s a celebration of the positive energy and time Wa always gave to people.

‘Marc’s Tribal Dance’ follows. A hip-shifting, butt-wriggling funk techno workout, this commemorates Marc Morgan. A gifted French singer, and also Fabrice’s good friend and publisher, he’s another soul who has left us too soon.

Finally ‘Pivert The Playmobil’. Another firm ally and creative genius from Fabrice’s hometown, Pivert passed away a few years ago but his impact on Lig has never faded. Light, jazzy and sprinkled with acid, it’s a fittingly reflective finale for a touching, thoughtful EP. Four stunning tracks, four beautiful tributes, four great men remembered, one powerful reminder to tell our friends how much we appreciate them…

The first Assemble Music release in 2022 comes from a super talented and young Portuguese producer. Salbany is known in the Portuguese circuit for his mind-blowing live act using hardware only. Footprint (Part I) is the first part of 2 ep´s that brings some of the tracks from those live sessions where he explores techno as it should be. 4 Old school Detroit feeling tracks with his own touch. Re-issue of this sought after Kumulus rarity originally released as a one-off on Electric Soul in 1992. Belgium pioneer Jan Van den Berghe is responsible for some all-time classics such as Wet's That's The Game, Liaison D's He chilled Out and Mappa Mundi's Sexafari, to name just a few. Under the Kumulus guide, he produced an unforgettable and mesmerizing take on Detroit-ish techno. Inspired by all the great tracks that he licensed for the excellent Buzz label releases and compilations during the early 90's. Timeless!

Seven years after the classic ‘Theater of a Confused Mind’ (as Population One), Detroit techno phenomenon Terrence Dixon is back on Rush Hour with a new album, this time under his own name.

It would be a massive understatement to say we’re proud of this one. After all our whole operation was named after one of Dixon’s early tracks (‘Rush Hour’ originally appeared on a double EP called ‘Hippnotic Culture’ on fellow Detroit legend Claude Young’s Utensil Records in 1995) and ‘Reporting from Detroit’ again finds the maestro in outstanding form.

If we told you that you'd be seeing the future back in 1996 would you have believed us Maybe not, but Armando may beg to differ, yes that Armando. Chicago's prodigal son (RIP) hooked up with one of Chicago's other prodigal sons - Cajmere - to drop this stellar piece of jacked-up, hi-tech, slamming house on the infamous Radikal Fear imprint ran by Felix Da Housecat. Yeah, that's a lot of legendary names right there, for sure. Sit back, take it in for a second, let it marinate. 'The future' is a banger, no doubt about it. Punishing kick drums, manic synth stabs and that creeping trademark Armando acid is all there, it doesn't let up. Driving in all the right ways it's a surefire weapon. Classic Chi-town sounds here, second wave style. Over on the b-side we are lucky to be treated to an exclusive, respectful re-edit of Cajmere's absolutely heavyweight remix of 'The future', again this one kicks hard in Curtis' unique style. We were granted access to our homie and long time freak, Chicago house aficionado and advocate Luke Solomon's private edit of this jam. To say that it works is an understatement, Luke knows what he's doing 100%, decades spent behind the mixing desk and turntables all over the world have made sure of that. Oh, by the way, be careful with that bassline on the remix, it's capable of bringing out the weird side of anyone exposed to it on the dancefloor.... in the best possible way, of course! Essential stuff here, for the heads for sure!

It's not every day we see a new release from John Beltran's alias Indio. With releases previously only on Transmat and Rhytmic Tech some 10 and 20 years ago we are very exited to present to you his new EP called Phoenix, and what a release it is! Phoenix is a full on Detroit dance floor belter with warm strings and comes with strong remixes from E.R.P. and Stryke. TIP!

Stefan Robbers returns with his original classic Terrace moniker and presents four tracks touching the brilliance of original melodic Detroit techno and electro. Opener 'Janeiro Joy' is driving, smooth and dreamy dancefloor track, 'Bass Star' goes slightly darker, with it's intriguing acidic bassline. B-side brings the rhythmic more complex 'Cocoons' , the EP closes with 'Seismic Space' an airy UR-styled electro-track.

Pannonia Noir is an all-Croatian affair: Zarkoff w/some sort of dark jack tracks & Honored Matres w/a style between Europian electro and minimal electronics. Both have a production quality born deep in the Zabreb freak parties. Pic sleeve.

To its round anniversary Dizzy Tunes presents a limited Vinyl-Only 2-track release by the Cologne producer Stefan Gubatz.

Besides his engagement with the well known Acid House Act Snuff Crew, Gubatz releases jam sessions under the name Dirtbox Jams at irregular intervals. The concept demands to only use music hardware such as synthesizers, drum computers and sequencers.

The title track “Warning” is an electro monster pervaded by heavy hitting TR-808 and TB-303, which builds up an uncanny tension over its entire playing time of 10 minutes and culminates in an extatic acid excess.

On the other hand, “Saturday Night Jam” on Side B comes along more calmly but also unfolds its charming effect over a full 10 minutes. Here, Gubatz reflects on Detroit Techno virtues and reverts to the legendary sound of the TR-909 and the Juno 106. Of course, the TB-303 is not to be missed either.

From the same producers that brought you the Timenet release, here we have a mighty fine re-issue of the very first Hi-Ryze record. Cyberia was originally released through cult label Brainiak back in 1990. Since then the Ubik production team released half a dozen of EP's under the Hi-Ryze name through various other classic imprints such as General Productions and Certificate 18. Here we have Frame Of Mind's faves: Cyberia and After The Flood. Remastered from the original DAT tapes!

Rico Casazza's sonic identity is like that of a city, one which has developed an undeniable self-ness as it hosts various movements and is rocked by various events, leaving a core self that is still open to change, but solidly, defiantly clear. These days the musical nomad focuses heavily on techno and electro, but he is more easily recognized through that previously mentioned, the humorously self-professed electronic emo; Casazza never fails to diffuse his work with a gloomily pulsating heart.

Rico's 4-tracker vinyl EP on Moving Pictures label will encompass all these genres and influences.

Detroit Electronic Quarterly serves up the latest volume of tracks in their ongoing series and it is another crucial one that starts with a particularly potent spoken word. Nandi's 'Detroit Tells Its Techno Story' speaks about how the genre is often referenced by huge stars of the music world but never itself gets much credit. After that A7MC drops a nice raw hip hop beat and Shawscape Renegade offers some slippery analogue electro to make your ass wiggle. The ever underrated Eddie Fowlkes also contributes a vibe-y and dynamic deep house cut amongst other great tunes from Luke & Jeff Hess and ADMN which all show the varied and vital nature of the Motor City's output.
