ARTSBOX001 - Five years in the making, label boss Emmanuel aimed to deliver what for him was the very best selection of artists and people he could ever imagine under one single roof.
Arts has now passed the landmark number of 100. But the reality is that we divided all the records into different categories, which makes the total number way bigger. Nevertheless, the label has become synonymous with quality and consistency with a wide range of timeless sounds from Techno, House, Dub Techno, Electro, championing some of the most respected names in the scene and pushing the youth and putting this same youth at the very top of the chain, the label philosophy keeps rotating on a different level of orbits trying to reach always the best result and never be influenced by anything in the scene.
The Box is a meticulous work of one entire year, every artist of the 20 selected delivered something that connects deeply with the label and the reason why they are part of it. The study goes beyond when artists get different colors of palettes and a different surface to paint, their known soundscapes come with something freer than the usual approach that they did in their singles. This is a pinnacle for a label that always placed Music in front of everything but kept the design and the aesthetics on a top level each release, each year. ARTS V is here.

Austrian hardware-only liveact Anml Mthr presents his 4th release on Florian Meindl's FLASH Recordings imprint and counts to the core artists of the label.
Heavily influenced by the Vienna and Berlin Techno scene of the 90s he was a regular visitor to Tresor Club as well as a shining raver at Gazometer Vienna.
His productions under different monikers in the genre underground dubstep and hardcore can be traced back until the late 90s, but with Anml Mthr he found a home to combine his rough subbass with driving and chellanging acid lines and synth sequences.
His unique hardware setup consists of a huge modular synthesizer as well as classic boxes like the 303 of course, but also modern boutique synthesizers and effect boxes which he performs all in one take to record his tracks.

The birth of Mindri, a new Pinkman sublabel run by Afra & Marsman. The first release by Pluto Junkies, a collab project between Ernestas Sadau, Rapha & PRZ goes straight into the alley of mind bending and stomach swirling releases. Drenched in 90's retro-futurist electro spirit, Flying Spaghetti Monstership is what you would call a secret weapon at a rave. Fuelled with ferocity and seasoned with nostalgia, it feels like hedonist nights and forgotten conversations in crammed basements.

'We Attack Before Dawn' is the 3rd instalment in the 'Sonar Base Transmissions' series on Deeptrax created by the long standing Dutch Electro pioneer Frank De Groodt under his Sonar Base alias. After the Deeptrax reissue of the legendary first album 'Sonar Bases 4-10' and the first vinyl issue of the mini album 'Dark Matter', this next chapter is yet another collection of savage, clever and spooky electro tracks.
First issued on vinyl by Cultivated Electronics in 2012, this reissue of 'We Attack Before Dawn' features a somewhat different tracklisting.
It opens with the full bodied, TB-303-smeared electro of 'The Deadly Storms of Uranus'. Slices of snare tear through an acrid acid line with shadows stalking the backdrop - a turgid and terrific opener. The second one, 'The Soul Of e1-Q42z' was only available as digital download before, but this track with pitch-dark haunted synth sounds and rolling beats would perfectly fit in a horror movie soundtrack and fully deserves a vinyl release.
The 303 is once again employed for 'The Journey Home'. But the aggression of 'Deadly Storms...' is pared back, with Sonar Base lowering the BPM for a meandering work of dereliction. 'The Swarm' is a hardy piece of raw electro too, but in comparison to the first trio of mechanized militia 'The Swarm' is sheathed. Last one, 'Photon Filers' is also on vinyl for the first time, and much like 'The Soul...', it sends you severe shivers up and down your spine. Don't say we didn't warn you!
Frank de Groodt started releasing in the early 1990s, on Djax-Up-Beats (as The Operator, Optic Crux, Urban Electro) and on U-Trax (Sonar Base, Pieces of a Pensive State of Mind). Two of his later releases as FastGraph (on Klakson) got reissued in 2018. He is also involved in projects like Ultradyne and Random XS and one anonymous project...

Ten years on from its digital-only release, Utter presents the legendary third Mu album on vinyl for the first time! What can we say? This is possibly the most bonkers and 'out there' Maurice Fulton has gone production-wise, from sub-heavy Hip-Hop to Country (!) to Thrash-Metal (?!) alongside a sprinkling of his signature genius House/Disco magic thrown in for good measure... all with Mutsumi's infamous vocals over the top. It’s been a year since I released originals and since then I also gave my studio a big make-over. I have gone back to being more analog/hardware based in my production methods again and I guess in some ways you can hear that in this release. For “Damage Control” i chose 3 tracks I felt had different vibes to them. Psychosis carries a familiar Noir Music sound and if you know my
“Eruption” track I think you can hear similarities in the production and overall vibe. Damage Control is a more groovy track build around modular synths and a filthy bass that hits right in the gut.
Autophagy is a fast-paced monster with percussive intensity and FM synthesis filtering in and out through the entire journey.
The tracks have off-course been roadtested and believe me even the smaller details changed a lot over time to fit my personal taste 100% After a long process I am finally happy with the tracks and ready to present “Damage Control”.

For those who have been following Laurent Garnier for a long time, know how multipurpose this artist is, how his status as "best DJ in the world" is only a shortcut used by default. It should be recognised that this man is gifted with an extraordinary sense of combat, and that he has been fighting for many years to impose good music on the public. Laurent Garnier has always refused chapels and privileged actions; he does not support repetition, even less compromises, and certainly no downtime.

The latest release on Arma comes from Dutch legend and devoutly deviant underground operator Ruud Lekx, aka Rude 66. With a legacy that reaches back to the early 90s and the rough and ready Dutch electro sound of Bunker Records and The Hague, he's maintained a distinctly non-conformist approach that touches on acid, Italo, techno and more besides, all finished with the punky attitude that sets him and peers like Unit Moebius and I-F apart.
The tracks gathered together on The Witch Trials EP come from throughout Lekx's career. As the artist himself says, 'tracks from wildly different eras and sessions suddenly can combine to form one coherent EP. It's almost like the A-side tracks were waiting for 20 years to be combined with the B-side tracks.'
The overriding theme that binds together these timeless machine excursions is that of medieval witch trials - a global phenomenon that peaked in the 15-1600's. Considering the suspicion, propaganda and mass moral panic involved in this strange curio of distant history, Lekx points to the parallels with the current age, 'of political polarization and fake news accusations flying all over.' The EP title is also a tribute to two records close to his heart: The Fall's Live At The Witch Trials, and the one-off Witch Trials project by members of the Dead Kennedys, Adrian Borland and Christian Lunch.
'Werewolves & Poisoners' and 'The Crusade Against Idolatry' are both archive tracks from the 1994-5 period when Lekx made his first albums for Bunker Records. The first track's charging arps, rugged kicks, nagging acid lines and discordant paranoia all speak to that trailblazing period, while 'The Crusade...' revels in canny programming of interwoven synth lines feeding into an unhinged, psychedelic rampage that reflects the righteous fervour and spiritual confusion of the EP concept.
'The Absence Of Diabolism' opens up the B-side with a different tone, having been produced in 2016 and demonstrating the deeper acid undulations Lekx has become known for in more recent years. Still delivered via the same trusted tools he was using in the 90s, the sound feels like an extension of the Rude 66 vision rather than a separate entity. 'Envious Are All The People, Witches Watch At Every Gate,' a cut from the late 90s, closes the EP out in a spacious, snarling exploration of broken acid electro laden with cinematic sweeps of synthesizer and a constant sense of unresolved tension.
Across these four tracks, Lekx displays the scope of his craft as Rude 66 while also proving that timeless music can make sense in any context, and that the threads of inspiration in an artist's journey can be followed, explored and even resolved 20 years later, when you least expect it

The continued rise of Alan Fitzpatrick is the biggest story in UK techno right now. Having enjoyed a rapid ascent since his emergence as the new kid on the techno block in the latter half of 2009, Fitzpatrick now enjoys a status as a highly respected and in-demand producer. By releasing his debut album for Adam Beyer's globally renowned Drumcode label, Alan became the first act to record an album on Drumcode since 2005. The well-received 'Shadows In The Dark' long-player marked the culmination of a run of productions that saw Fitzpatrick publically name-checked as a one of the most exciting producers in techno by Adam Beyer, Dubfire, Carl Cox, John Digweed and Len Faki and being awarded a BBC Radio 1 Essential New Tune for his anthemic Reflections single on Bedrock. 2011 will see Alan evolve an already impressive production CV via collaborations with Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch and Joseph Capriati as well as remixes of Mark Broom, Funk D'Void and Alex Bau.
It has been Alan's partnership with Adam Beyer's Drumcode label that has produced his most significant work to date; releasing three chart topping EP's (Static, Face Of Rejection, Insurgent Series) on the label in addition to his 'Shadows In The Dark' LP and being one of a select handful of producers invited to remix Beyer's classic Remainings III. Elsewhere, Fitzpatrick's studio services have been recruited by the likes of John Digweed & Nick Muir, Slam, Joey Beltram, John Digweed, Dustin Zahn & Joel Mull and Pascal Mollin. Indeed, such has been Fitzpatrick's dominance of the techno scene in the last eighteen months that his productions have regularly filled the top positions of Beatport's techno Top 100 chart at the same time.
The same unstoppable momentum has come to characterize Alan's style of techno; powering demand for his music worldwide, and filling his gig diary with weekends spent touring all over Europe as he completes the transition from being a highly regarded newcomer to a bonafide member of techno's producer vanguard. Focusing on his trademark sound of tough, hooky grooves and incendiary beats, An intuitive and dynamic exponent with Native Instrument's Traktor software, his big-room techno sound has seen him draw crowds in Germany (Berghain, Cocoon, U60311, Maria Ostbahnof), France (Rex, Inox, Le 25, S'Kandalo) The Netherlands (Awakenings, Paradiso, Catwalk, Doornroosje, Poema), UK (Fabric, The Arches) Italy (Old River Park, Rasmonan), Switzerland (La Zoo, D-Club, Das Schiff) and Eastern Europe (Kiwi Lithuania, Forsage Ukraine) plus key festivals like Kazantip Ukraine, Streetparade Zurich, SW4 London, Boom Portugal and Sziget Hungary.
Already well passed the landmark of 25 releases, Alan Fitzpatrick's 8 Sided Dice Recordings label keeps on pushing forward as one of the most exciting new techno labels to emerge in recent times. Established as both an attractive home to high profile artists and a outlet for emerging talent the labels output continues to strike a balance between original tracks and remixes from Alan himself, as well as featuring productions from Cari Lekebusch, Slam, Heiko Laux, Gene Le Fosse, Dustin Zahn, Sasha Caressi, Harvey McKay, Nicole Moudaber, Rich Jones, and Chris Colburn.

Intense minimalist industrial acid tekno mantra beats by Albert van Abbe as Datasmok. A 'mini-concept-album' full heavy-hitting, brutal mean-and-lean, 'dirty-brown-and-miserable' psychotic visions. The Datasmok project was kickstarted by default when Guy Tavares and Albert decided to release archived tracks from Van Abbe on Tavares' Bunker Records. All tracks of this second volume of back-catalog material got special treatment in Tavares' subterranean master studio...

Wink returns to the Ovum motherland after a year of big hitters on Intec, Boysnoize and R&S. And he's packing some serious substance. The clue is in the title, the message is in the hypnotic signature vocal loop, the attitude is in the spiked-out sinewy tendrils of acid, sharped in the way only Josh knows how: 'Resist' is the sound a man who, like all of us, is confounded and frustrated with the current political and media climate. Tension, fear and adrenalin ripple throughout as we dynamically ride the tangible, visceral highs and lows in a quintessential classic Wink way. Remix-wise Truncate forges through the blurred truths, manipulation and divisiveness with two clear dancefloor tactics: a thundering, roughly-hewn late night techno roll-out and a deeper, leaner approach for slightly earlier hours with a rising siren that acts as a call to arms for like minds to unify. Truncate isn't alone with the multiple versions: in echoes of some of his most influential tracks 'Superfreak' and 'Don't Laugh', Josh has also provided two stripped-back acapella-style tracks to ensure the critical message is entwined beyond the track itself. And that message is clear: Exist to resist. You know what to do. - Josh Wink is on a roll following last recent big tracks on Boys Noize, Cocoon, Soma, and of course Ovum. - DJ support from Chris Liebing, Scuba, Len Faki, Slam, Jamie Jones, John Digweed, and more. Radio support from Eats Everything (Radio 1), B Traits (Radio 1), Coco Cole (Capital 1Xtra).

2020 is proving to be a disastrous year for many established artists and quite propitious for new projects, as many have emerged strongly during these strange months. The Lost Boys is one of them, although the person who embodies this pseudonym is known for his years of activity and his great contributions to the hardest and most corrosive electronic scene.
Rafa Raszia has recently appeared under this alias on labels such as HC Records, Bass Agenda or Subsist Records. All his contributions have been quite discreet until now, as he is coming back again to Subsist but, this time with a great solo album.

The next offering on Brighton based Orson Records is a killer four track EP from Ben Pest, featuring a remix from label head Transparent Sound. The A-side of this EP offers two devastating electro workouts which offer a refreshing yet tough take on current electro. The B-side features title track ‘Vim & Vigour’ which is a futuristic funk driven acid electro cut which perfectly captures Ben Pest’s wonderful unique style. The B2 features the Transparent Sound remix, which manages to maintain the essential groove of the original, while exploring other textures in the signiture Transparent Sound way.
