For decades Devo have been working non-stop at Recombo DNA Laboratories on a new kind of research to keep up with the mutating world around us. That extensive research is now ready for public consumption once again. Futurismo were the first to bring you this on vinyl and now they present unhindered access into Devo’s labs, documenting the scientific analysis and demonstrations as conducted by the band between the years 1977-2008.



This tireless research has manifested itself in Recombo DNA…an unmissable collection of studio demos and unreleased rare tracks that span Devo’s entire recording career, from their original basement days to their famed ’Freedom Of Choice’ era, right the way through to unused demos from their last studio album. You may know the track ‘Baby Doll’ but do you know it’s original incarnation as ‘Satan’? If you submit to the findings of Recombo DNA Labs you will, Futurismo’s version of this compilation includes six bonus tracks taken from the archives that had never been released, or even heard before.

Six songs that are worth it. Manic electropunk that somehow - consciously or as collateral damage - manages to pack that seventies goblin horror movie vibe (on one track it's also a video game soundtrack) into catchy and contemporary songs that just move forward. Big guitars, big synthesizer, big drum beats and those nasty melodies that can still accelerate demons in 2023. A bit of VOLT could be mentioned as a reference, but the band from mighty, mighty Offenbach (for a world career I would suggest Frankfurt) clearly has its own flair and, despite the home recording, seems so powerful that it hurts. Compared to the Bandcamp stream on vinyl and a decent system, “Havana Syndrome” sounds much more powerful. The almost cheap beatbox is the real icing on the cake, because the guitar, the bass and, above all, that divinely played synthesizer are so amazing that I'm inclined to want a child from a band for the first time. I'll tell you straight away, it won't be pretty, but at least it'll be talented. Exquisite 12”, which especially calls for a second helping! Shortly before the ten points, but there is still something going on.

"Die Welt soll durch Zärtlichkeit gerettet werden" Fjodor Michailowitsch Dostojewski In von Krisen gebeutelten Zeiten bietet die Kunst allerhand Möglichkeiten, um dem entrückten Lauf der Welt die Stirn zu bieten. Eine davon liegt in der bewussten Umkehrung von Aggression und Rauheit. Für genau diesen Weg haben sich vier Musiker aus Köln entschieden - und folgerichtig ihre Band nach einer herzerfrischenden Tugend benannt: Die Zärtlichkeit lautet das Credo der Gegenwart. Gewissermaßen ist die Gruppe ein Produkt der Pandemie. Allwöchentlich trafen sich Sänger Andreas Fischer und Gitarrist Tobias Emmerich hinter domstädtischen Wänden, um ihren musikalischen Entwurf auszuarbeiten. Zum Vorbild nahmen sie sich den britischen Jangle-Pop der 80er-Jahre: The Smiths, Orange Juice, Felt. Samtweich klangen jene Formationen und wenngleich ihre Melodien durchaus beschwingt daherkamen, wurden sie doch immer aus Empfindsamkeit geboren. So verhält es sich auch bei Die Zärtlichkeit. Im März 2020 erschien ihre selbstbetitelte Debüt-EP, im November des selben Jahres veröffentlichten sie auf "Die Zärtlichkeit II" vier weitere Stücke. An dieser Stelle bleibe nicht unerwähnt, dass sich das Duo seit dem Beitritt von Bassist Merlin Engelien und Schlagzeuger David Dasenbrook zum Quartett erweitert hat. Mit "Heimweh Meisterwerke" ist nun der Moment für den ersten Langspieler gekommen. Ohne Zweifel steht jene Platte in den Zeichen von Anmut und Grazie. Doch Obacht sei geboten: Am Ende von "Reptil" etwa lauert in Gestalt von "Ulalala"-Chören ein gewiefter Spitzbubenstreich. Vorrangig tut es wohl, dass diese Band keine Bange hat vor Romantik. In Gärten tummeln sich von der Welt verlassene Tiere, der Mai lässt die Bäume hastig erblühen. So lieblich, so leichtfüßig die Lieder aber auch dahinziehen mögen - hinter so manch besungenem Himbeerstrauch hat sich der Pathos versteckt. Hört man etwa die folgenden Verse, möchte man vor Rührung vergehen: "Und ich darf mich nicht verraten, ich träume hier von dir. Und während ich hier träume, befreist du mich von mir" "Ein kurzer Weg" heißt das Lied, dem diese Zeilen entnommen sind. Es offenbart, wie schnell sich die Dinge - freilich durch die Liebe - zum Guten wenden können. Auch bei "Star" nimmt das Schicksal eine rasende Wendung, die hier jedoch schnurstracks in den Abgrund führt. Das Stück nimmt sich einen Menschen zum Protagonisten, der den Sternen näher scheint, als der Erde: "Trotz makelloser Hülle scheint dein Inneres verdorben". Gerade deshalb muss er verglühen - zumindest in dieser mit Scharfsinn vorgeführten Fallstudie. Von einem Besuch in den Gefilden der Kindheit erzählt der Titel "Geteilt". Das Licht am Morgen fällt noch immer wie damals vor dem Schulbeginn. Einige Klingelschilder tragen jetzt andere Namen, ein Baum ist verschwunden. Es ist die Geschichte eines Jemand, der sich aufgerieben fühlt zwischen der Vergangenheit und dem Jetzt. Zwischen Ankommen und Loslassen. Als bittersüße nostalgische Verklärung kommt das Schlusslied "In meinen Träumen" daher. Die letzten Zeilen liefern schließlich den Beweis: Am Ende gewinnt Die Zärtlichkeit. "In meinen Träumen bleiben die Menschen und Orte für immer"

Manchmal fühlt es sich so an, als würde Dilla inmitten eines Films leben. Er spielt in einem Aperol-orangenen Universum, ist eine chaotische Kreuzung aus romantischer Coming-of-Age-Komödie und ausgeflipptem Actioner. Der rote Faden, der sich durch den Streifen zieht: Die kesse, fantasiegeladene Vertreterin der Gen-Z - Dilla eben - spaziert leichtfüßig eine schier endlose Avenue entlang. Immer wieder biegt sie kurz ab, feiert hier bis zum Sonnenaufgang, erkennt da Sinn im Banalen und fährt dort ein bisschen Gefühlsachterbahn. Über absurde Umwege landet sie schließlich in der großen Stadt, wo sie unverhofft zur gefeierten Musikerin avanciert.Im Spätsommer 2023 geht Dillas Reise in die nächste spannende Phase: Ihr lang ersehntes Debütalbum steht in den Startlöchern. Auf 11 Tracks verewigt die junge Musikerin die letzten 2 Jahre: Nicht chronologisch, eher anarchisch, augenzwinkernd und gespickt mit Perspektivwechseln. Dillas Debüt "Also bin ich" erscheint am 06.10.2023 auf orangefarbenem Vinyl.

Elephant's Memory is the 1969 eponymous album by the American rock band from New York. They are primarily known for backing John Lennon and Yoko Ono. For live performances with Lennon and Ono, they were also known as the Plastic Ono Elephant's Memory Band. Before working together with Lennon and Ono, the band already worked on three albums. Two of their songs, "Jungle Gym at the Zoo" and "Old Man Willow", appeared on the soundtrack of the 1969 film Midnight Cowboy. The band's style can be described as psychedelic rock. On Origins Chris Bartels takes on the role of singer-songwriter for the first time under his Elskavon moniker, unveiling a voice that wouldn't sound out of place next to vocal-forward artists like Justin Vernon, Jónsi, or Baths, who master the balance between conventional songcraft and bold, idiosyncratic experimentation. Origins is vast yet intimate, fluttering yet cohesive, tattered yet clean, a little like rainfall during sunlight. Shedding the ambient-classical confines of his previous output, the album's opener and title track, offers a swirling mosaic of acoustic textures that recall the beloved duo The Books, laced with warped vocal utterances flitting in and out of a club-friendly beat. "Origins" is followed by the equally danceable "Coastline," which drives home the smiling melodies and intricate sound-design that form the spine of Origins, keeping Bartels' voice in a largely decorative and impressionistic role up to this point. "Blossom and the Void" dissolves the introductory tension as Bartels comes out lyrically swinging, his digitized voice chanting widely over the mutated New Wave-esque anthem. Here, Bartels shows his instinct for dynamics by rising to bombast and quickly dispelling it, making steep yet grace- ful descents into skillfully delicate sound-design. Throughout Origins, the patient glacial aesthetic of his previous work is still discernible-- there are wordless, expansive panoramas that stretch out patiently for minutes at a time and smartly resist the impulse to pack each moment with a persona made even more impactful when Bartels chooses to wield it. At other times, his spokesmanship is woven discreetly into a larger tapestry, like on "See Out Loud" (and its ambient reprise) where Bartels' voice shimmers from a distance, covering the scene in diffuse splendor. "There is so much warping, mangling, re-sampling, reversing and pitching," Bartels says of his intricate vocal manipulations. "I printed a lot of the vocal recordings onto a tape machine from the `60s, first at one speed, and then I'd halve, or double the speed going back into my comput- er," he elaborates, illustrating how this kind of analog processing freed him from his habits. "Sometimes I'd do this multiple times on one recording or layer-- it gave me such a unique and unexpected sound. At this point, I threw away any inhibition on what type of vocals to have, or not have, on the album." This newfound freedom is palpable in the peaks of soaring grandeur that dot the emotional landscape of Origins. "All These Years" cathartically reaches one such summit in its second half after laying a path of gently plodding indie-IDM in its first. The cinematic vignette "Dreymur Aftur" provides pause for reflection amid its brisk procession of string plucks and rhythmic synthesizer while marching wordlessly into album-closer "This Won't Last Forever." Here at the end, Bartels' guitar playing is laid bare in the mix, skeletally framing a single ribbon of his voice as it unfurls into the atmosphere. Though the track isn't expressly lyrical, its starkness still exemplifies the new leaf of vulnerability Bartels has turned over on Origins, an album that documents his hard-won evolution from musician, to producer, to composer_ and finally_ his confident arrival in the role of songwriter.

“I want to give you a killer sound, before the time will waste it all”, Eugene sings on the first verse. “Radiowave” is not a love song, neither an ode to retro-technology: it’s the search for a safe and inspirational place to be and for a method to evade oblivion. The song features two important artists coming from the avant-garde pop music scene: the acknowledged father of italian new-wave Garbo along with Andy (co-founder of the MTV Award winning outfit Bluvertigo, besides being an acclaimed painter and visual artist), the first singing the Italian verse of the song with his haunting and unique voice, the latter performing a dreamy and abstract saxophone solo. Radiowave is a pure electronic-pop anthem, a cool clash of energy and elegance. Music video has been made with American video-art foundational artist and friend Gary Hill, who processed a live footage of Eugene singing the track through an early-70s analog video-synthesizer, generating hundreds of dancing green arabesques, deconstructing and re-composing Eugene’s face and surprisingly creating a futuristic vision without using computer-graphics at all. Besides the main track, this vinyl release also contains a special alternate mix (MHZ Version), the song “Insistence is Futile” feat. experimental artist Kudu and a fab industrial/EBM remix by Plaster. Eutropic are an avant-pop outfit obsessed with analog synths and the concept of time.

DARK AGE DAY DREAM is a concept record that obsesses over the nature of time! It’s our attempt to make sense of reality, so it’s full of contradictions and ambiguities. It's a sonicjourney, which takes the basic idea of synth-pop and then turns it inside-out, side-ways and upside-down. By intuitively connecting dots between synth-based musics – late 70s classic electronica, Cold Wave and New Wave as well as all types of iterations of techno – Eutropic created a singular amalgam of sound: simultaneously dance-floor friendly and the perfect companion to deep introspection.

Eve Maret's art celebrates the personal and the communal. Realising oneself as a musician, with a journey through grief and acceptance to arrive at a new found confidence to share love and creativity.

Having recently signed to PRAH Recordings this Nashville based synthesist and producer introduces her forthcoming album ’Stars Aligned’ with the single ‘Freedom’ released on July 6th.

'Freedom' is a dizzying ride from the Autobhan to Interstate 40, breezing into the city with a tale of personal truth and creative liberation set to euphoric electronica. A trip from Kraftwerk to Bjork, Laurie Anderson to Harmonia, Neu! to Orbital, Freedom builds from simple electro foundations to a climax of anthemic proportions. In the final movement, Eve flicks the switch, her vocals moving from a whisper to a vocoder filtered mantra "Freedom. Freedom ain't free. Freedom. Freedom for you and me.”

Stars Aligned will be a introduction to her work for many but for the artist it’s the most crystallised version yet of the world of sound she seeks to operate within – “my spiritual yearning made manifest”, as she describes it.

A co-founder of Hyasynth House - an electronic music collective and education centre in Nashville for female, trans, and non-binary artists, Maret has released two albums previously - her explorative debut 'Say So' and the more beat driven synth pop follow up 'No More Running’. She appeared alongside Marisa Anderson and Moon Duo’s Vive le Void on Centripetal Force label’s compilation My Body Tis of Thee for pro-choice charity NARAL and 2019’s ‘OFO’ addressed her own obsessive and compulsive behaviour and she has played shows with Xiu Xiu, Sun Araw and Lydia Lunch, among others.

Stars Aligned is a pop-edged modular sprawl that encompasses past experiences and processes, allied with her own personal emotional and spiritual growth. “It’s about the truth that is revealed by one’s suffering, seeing it as an opportunity for compassion and growth, and focusing on what you want to manifest in the present moment” she says. “My personal experience of grief, love, disappointment, joy, and heartbreak made this album what it is.”

Moving seamlessly from the skittering four to the floor and manipulated vocals of 'Synthesizer Hearts’ to more scrambled amalgamations, it’s reflective of the real-life flux that Maret herself existed in; these first two tracks were conceived in a camper van in the Tennessee countryside.

She worked closely with local musicians featuring flautist Lou Turner on ‘Freedom’ and saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist on ‘Be Careful’ and recorded her vocals at multi-disciplinary’s Tyler Blackenship’s studio. This may be a solo project but Stars Aligned is an album heavy on human connection in theme and in practice. Showcasing Maret’s more ambient side is the ten-minute long ‘Impressions’. Made with guitarist Sean Thompson, the piece bounces gently between three notes before a pedal steel washes over it – a feint reminder of Nashville’s country and folk heritage that surrounds her.

Describing herself as "a sponge that collects inspiration of all sorts, which is then filtered and reimagined in the sounds I choose to make” Maret says she "was inspired by my friends’ music like Dream Chambers, Linda Heck, and JayVe, as well as the music I heard out at shows.” A local R&B and Soul station “playing a ton of Isaac Hayes and Marvin Gaye became increasingly important to me as I made the groovier songs. Manuel Gottsching, Iasos, and Pauline Anna Strom have definitely inspired the more ambient tunes I make."

Stars Aligned, is a record that encompasses the growth that Maret has already made, as well as lighting a path for where she is next to go.
