It all began with Raz Ohara: His album 'Moksha' in February 2014 was the first release on Albumlabel, the new label from the Shitkatapult house at the time. Moksha, which blew away its audience and was so absolutely spot on, was never meant to dictate the direction of the new imprint in terms of content. In the end, the intention was and still is to impose as few ground rules as possible as to what is good for the ALB catalogue, now and always. Despite this, the album could be heard as a kind of label manifesto. Moksha demands attention and time. And this is precisely what the makers of Albumlabel are about: listening to records and having the composure and powers of concentration required to do so in these times of Internet-induced hyper-anxiety.

One year later, this is where Oliver Doerell aka Cummi Flu drops 'Z'. It is an entirely different kind of music from Moksha, less volatile and blurred, percussive and transparent instead. Yet it is an album that belongs right here on this label, one that demands time from its listener.
Cummi Flu, who likes to generate percussion loops from the twangs of various rubber bands, creates loops with the help of all possible and impossible tone generators. What happens now when these complex, gyroscopic sounds are deflected and distorted, when you send them through the Raz Ohara grinder, so to speak Gnawing tracks emerge from field recordings, acoustic instruments, synthesizers and kitchen utensils. Bizarre and fleeting.

The sound of CUMMI FLU/RAZ OHARA.

It appears that not only do Ohara and Doerell get along well, but they complement each other splendidly. Together they create an extremely fine psychedelia, a kind of dark psychedelic classicism or urban voodoo music. 'Y' is a jungle album for listeners to lose themselves in. For instance, we hear something that sounds like polyphonic, distorted whistling, but can't exactly be placed. And the fact is, it doesn't really matter. The longer you listen, the less you are interested in determining the origins of individual sounds. It's as if the sum of the music and its psychedelic effect mask all rational thought, as if the music takes over control.

Soul fragments, sung by Raz Ohara in his broken yet commanding style, waft around the extraterrestrial sound loops. Again comes the dark voodoo tapping, Ohara's sharp inhale, after which we immediately hear his voice creaking and scratching, maniacally, as if it were part of a cultish act. Various time signatures are intertwined, generating polyrhythmic infinity. And before the extremely filtered flute loops regain the upper hand, the music suddenly grabs your heart and moves you in the same way the soundtrack of your youth perhaps once did - the consequence of having taken the time, who knows.

CUMMI FLU is the latest incarnation of the ever-changing multimedia illusionist Oliver Doerell. Born in Brussels, he was the driving force behind the electronica projects Dictaphone and SWOD, and a sound box in Raz Ohara's Odd Orchestra.
RAZ OHARA's dub-infused productions develop a distinctive sound flow. Ohara has already worked with countless artists and released on just as many labels. His tracks have been remixed by Pantha Du Prince, Noze & DOP, Apparat, NU, Acid Pauli and others.

Judee Sill was an American singer and songwriter. She released two albums and partially completed a third album before her death in 1979. Sill encountered Graham Nash and David Crosby and toured with them for a time as their opening act, a year before the release of her debut album. She was hired by the Turtles to write songs, on which a few of them appeared on her debut album, such as 'Lady-O'. Two of Sill's biggest influences were Bach and Ray Charles.

Judee Sill's eponymous debut album of the same name was originally released in late 1971. Backing musicians include John Beck and Jim Pons from the Leaves. The majority of the album was produced by Henry Lewy, noted for his work with Joni Mitchell throughout the 70s. Graham Nash handled the duties for the single 'Jesus Was a Cross Maker' with his production designed to aim for radio airplay before the release of the album. Judee Sill featured Sill's voice in multiple overdubs, often in a four-part chorale or fugue. The songs are delivered in an acoustic style on guitar and, for 'Jesus was a Cross Maker' and 'Enchanted Sky Machines,' on piano. The songs on the album feature elements of folk, country, and gospel, but also strong classical influences.

The early 1980s saw the Monkees enjoy a big revival in Japan, partly due to "Daydream Believer" being used in a popular national TV ad. Concert promoters were quick to organize solo tours for Davy Jones, Peter Tork and Micky Dolenz, who all
ended up touring Japan individually. Featured here, and available for the first time ever on this limited edition single, are two of the songs Dolenz performed on his 1982 Tour of Japan - "Sunny Girlfriend" and "Zor And Zam".

Mention the name of Nat 'King' Cole to most music lovers and they are likely to wax lyrical about his beautiful husky voice
and his warm, relaxed way of singing. Any jazz buff, however, would be likely to give a very different response, for while
Nat's singing was what ultimately brought him fame and fortune, it was almost exclusively as a pianist that he began his
career, and in this sphere he came to be regarded among the finest of the twentieth century. This magnificent collection
compiles some of his best songs, including "Nature Boy", "Mona Lisa" and "Too Young" among others.

Nixon is the fifth studio album by American rock band Lambchop. The album was released on February 8, 2000 and became a critical and commercial breakthrough for the band, especially in the United Kingdom, where it polled highly in several year-end polls in music magazines, among them Uncut magazine.

Chris Wood - 6 times BBC Folk Award winner - releases his 5th solo album but you don't have to be a folkie to get it. Billy Bragg, Chris Difford, Joan Armatrading and Tom Robinson are all fans. There is real candour and soul in his songs as he deftly conveys the highs and lows of our times and absolutely no one is writing like him at the moment.

The Future World Tour began in late April, 1993, in support of The Future, Cohen's 1992 album. It was the only tour Cohen would go on in a nearly 20 year period (1999-2007). Just prior to the first date of the tour, Cohen and his group recorded a live set at The Complex in Los Angeles, for a live radio broadcast. Including tracks from The Future as well as classics like "First We Take Manhattan", "Bird On A Wire", and "The Sisters Of Mercy", this live set is impeccably recorded and is one of the few available live documents of Mr. Cohen for all of the 1990s and into the late 2000s. A truly beautiful live set from the brilliant, beloved, and dearly missed Leonard Cohen.

On the wonky and woozy 'Eniafelamo' his sax is a post-coital salutation. Even the one political track, 'Long Live Nigeria', is a loved up call for peace, progress and trust. Chilled, assured and dexterious, Me & You is a sophisticated showcase of Eji Oyewole's chops. 'This is the beginning of an atomic musical evolution,' he declares on the cover. Richard Bona was born into a family of musicians, which enabled him to start learning music from a young age. His grandfather was a griot - a West African singer of praise and storyteller - and percussionist, and his mother was a singer.

Richard Bona remains true to his roots with African rhythms reflected in each of his albums, Reverence is the second studio album originally released in 2001 and displays his unique approach to storytelling through sounds. His unique style is situated at the crossroads of a horde of influences - jazz, bossa nova, pop music, afro-beat, traditional song, and funk.

The multi-platinum album The Trinity Session by Cowboy Junkies is the prove it's possible to create a fantastic album overnight, it was recorded in the night of 27th November 1987 using just one microphone, a DAT recorder and the wonderful acoustics of the Holy Trinity in Toronto.

Originally released in 1962, this compilation is the definitive collection of Wanda Jackson's rocking, rockabilly sides. Featuring her finest singles, including "Fujiyama Mama," "Mean Mean Man," and "Hot Dog! That Made Him Mad," this is Wanda at her lascivious, snarling best. Often referred to as The Queen Of Rockabilly' if ever there was a need to prove that title for Wanda Jackson, this compilation is Exhibit A. Jack Orion, Bert Jansch's third album, may have surprised some fans upon its 1966 release, as it features no original compositions by Jansch. While nearly all of the eight tracks (four of which include guitarist John Renbourn) are interpretations of traditional folk songs, Jansch's experimental approach breathes new life into this repertoire through his exploratory use of open tunings and passionate, gritty vocals.

According to Melody Maker, "his interpretations illuminate the songs from a completely new angle. As sung by him, with brilliant accompaniments, the brutal world that created the old ballads doesn't seem so very far off."

The ten-minute title song foreshadows the future through the past: with his sublime retelling of this dark tale of desire and revenge, Jansch embarks on a musical trajectory he would further develop with his group Pentangle. In "Black Water Slide," a haunting ballad he first heard from Anne Briggs, Jansch plants the seeds for future versions by Led Zeppelin and Sandy Denny. Jack Orion's unique combination of medieval themes and progressive arrangements would pave the way for the next wave of the British folk revival and beyond.

With a burgeoning fanbase, galvanised by a trio of EPs and his captivating online sessions, London based songwriter Charlie Cunningham releases his debut album "Lines" on Dumont Dumont.

Murderous Arabic scaled, pitch-bending, instrumental synth and lute from the Sahara desert. Playful electronic drums combine with gothic tinged organ freakouts and quivering electric banjo' to create an anachronistic trance music. Mauritanian WZN (literally instrumental music') has emerged as pop music, blaring out of taxi cabs and cassette shops throughout the country. These are two of the genres biggest stars: griot Jeich Ould Badu, playing a hacked traditional lute with built in phasers and pre-amps, and synth wizard Ahmedou Ahmed Lewla, on an Arabic scaled keyboard. Hypnotic and infectious, transporting Mauritanian classical music into technological futures, like a drug free baroque rave under the open air of the Sahara. Originally released on cassette, this is the first international release ever of the celebrated regional genre. Vinyl edition of 500 with handmade covers.

In a previous life, La Féline was a trio. Three voices joined as one on a handful of EPs with diverse influences, trying to find their place between musical genres, languages, and experiences, guided by Ariane's writing and the luminous vocals of singer and guitarist Agnès Gayraud. Then came Adieu l'enfance' in 2014, the first album for which Agnès alone carried the feline fur, and made her mark. A unique voice emerged from the album, giving free reign to obsessions that had had only been hinted at previously.

As cathartic as its title implies and entirely sung in French, Adieu l'enfance' was also a rebirth with hypnotic new wave sounds, urban climates and introspective lyrics, a place into which the outside world would sometimes crash, in an explosion of broken glass. While creating her second album, Triomphe', La Féline started a new fascinating metamorphosis. Guided by Dionysus, the god of ecstasy (while the minimal synthpop of Adieu l'enfance' had more Apollonian hints), Agnès started by imagining herself as a ruthless warrior or Miyazaki-like wildling. Senga', the first single passes on the flame: in mirror-calm waters, Agnès the feline becomes Senga who talks to wolves, Senga who climbs the trees and knows the secrets of the forest. As total and ambitious album, Triomphe' is like a place where La Féline transforms the forest into a refuge, the sea into a primordial swamp from which to emerge reborn, and projects herself into a city of Tokyo where nature has re-claimed its rights. In this place we talk of renaissances ( Samsara', Le Plongeur' — pulled down to the depths by the sound of an octobass), meet Greek gods and spirit animals ( Senga'), question the place of man in the community ( Le Royaume', Comité rouge').

Paper Birds, the second album by the band Vladimirska, will be released by Gusstaff Records on February 10th, 2017. The album contains nine original songs. With this new record, Vladimirska continues the unique folk-pop sound of their first LP, Night Trains, but takes it in a new and interesting direction. The simple instrumentation of their debut album (accordion, guitar, trumpet and saxophone) has been expanded in Paper Birds to include piano, xylophone, toy piano, flute, double bass and percussion. Additionally, the sweet, natural vocals of Vladimirska's leader and founder, Scotia Gilroy, are featured much more prominently in the band's new songs.

Vladimirska took an adventurous approach to the recording of Paper Birds. They recorded most of the album outside - in Wolski Forest in Krakow. They worked with sound engineer Tomek Kruk, an expert in outdoor sound recording who is well known in Poland for his "Backyard Music" project. Throughout the summers of 2015 and 2016, Vladimirska met in Wolski Forest for long recording sessions in which they made use of the forest's natural acoustics and atmosphere. The end result of these unique sessions was their new nine-song album, Paper Birds.

Based in Krakow, Poland, Vladimirska is a band comprised of musicians from Canada, France and Poland. It began as the solo project of Canadian songwriter and musician Scotia Gilroy and has now grown into a 6-member band. Focused around Scotia's natural, unique singing style, Vladimirska is an unusual folk-pop project playing stirring, uplifting songs that are tinged with an exotic, carnivalesque spirit.

Earlier this year, we released the mysterious, bewitching L'Amour, a 1983 private press record thought to be the only release by one of music's true lost talents: Lewis.
So lost, in fact, was Lewis, he eluded every effort to track him down. Scant details were known: just a series of possibly apocryphal stories about a sports car-driving Canadian with a model on his arm and a habit of skipping town when there were bills to be paid.
Deciding that Lewis' spider web-delicate songs demanded to be heard, we put the album out anyway, offering to present the due royalties to anyone who could prove they were Lewis.
One sure thing was this: Lewis was a man of many names: Randall A. Wulff among them. Now we have either found another alias - or perhaps even his real name - on the sleeve of a completely unknown album.

Sourced soon after the re-release of L'Amour, Romantic Times is the 1985 follow-up to L'Amour - and it's released as Lewis Baloue. The name may be slightly different, but this is absolutely our man: a familiar blond posing on the sleeve, a familiar, tortured voice pouring his heart out over languid synths and synthetic waltz beats.
Remastered from a sealed, vinyl copy of the ultra-rare album, the album was discovered in the vaults of DJ and collector Kevin Sipreano' Howes in Vancouver, BC. It's so rare that what is, at present, the only other known copy - found in the same Calgary store where Aaron Levin discovered a batch of sealed copies of L'Amour - is presently soaring into quadruple digits on eBay.
Even engineer Dan Lowe, credited for working on the album at Calgary's Thunder Road Studios, remembered little about the session other than that Lewis seemed to be under the influence'. Yet the music is utterly captivating.
The album further fleshes out the Lewis myth - we see him pictured in that white suit with his famous white Mercedes and a private jet too, we hear him focussing more intently on matters of the heart, and appearing to unravel in the process. I felt like I was witnessing a full-blown exorcism of a phantom clad in the finest linen,' writes filmmaker and historian Jack D. Fleischer in his brand new liner notes. This record went further (than L'Amour ). It was a personal plea, of sorts. Something had gone wrong. Nerves were clearly exposed.'
It paints Lewis, then, as being more like a David Lynch character than even his debut did, exposing the darkness beneath the sheen. The album is presently being readied for release to the throng of new fans Lewis has found, willingly or not. The man himself remains a total enigma.
