Bosco is the debut release for fast-rising drummer and composer Dave Storey, who - with his longstanding Trio collaborators James Allsopp (saxophone) and Conor Chaplin (double bass) - takes the listener on a thrilling and immersive journey across eight original compositions and one (not-so-standard) standard.

Over four years of musical activity, beginning as impromptu duo jams between Allsopp and Storey, the trio has honed their approach towards celebrating the elements they love in classic jazz lineups and recordings, and maximising the space for communication and interaction, without even the need for sheet music. The performances are as immediate and bristling with energy as this might suggest, evoking many of the monolithic names associated with the tenor trio, yet the music still sounds fresh and individual; classic and familiar forms such as the blues are subject to subtle deviations and extensions, evidenced in the tricksy and playful 'Twisty' and the slithering boogaloo of 'Old Blue Nose', playing with the listener's expectations and providing satisfying surprises, a feeling akin to rediscovering an old friend after many years. The reverence and respect of the jazz tradition are ever-present across the album, but the musicians are never unduly beholden to its dogma, which results in music which is unpretentious - perhaps unfussy - but never throwaway or without considerable weight, shining a light on the considerable talents of each member of the trio.

The immediacy of the music is equally served by the studio method, recorded in a single session straight to 2 track tape with no edits, an approach authentic to many classic jazz recordings which can be daunting to even the most seasoned and road-hardened bands. This all contributes not only to beautiful audio fidelity, but also the most accurate image of a live band that one can hope for in a studio recording, emphasising the immaculate playing of all the musicians, and their remarkable propensity for telling full stories together in short spaces of time (the lengthiest takes on the album are under five minutes).

Throughout the record, leader Storey plays with great musicality and maturity, resisting the urge to stamp his authority too aggressively on his bandmates, not overcrowding soloists but rather focusing on excellent tone and time (the hook up between him and Chaplin is joyously buoyant) whether coaxing more from his bandmates through slick comping, trading choruses with Allsopp on his own 'Cautious Tortoise' or supporting the beautiful and poignant melody on the session's only non-original, Strayhorn's 'A Flower is a Lovesome Thing' with elegant brushwork. His compositions are also effective vehicles for the trio's approach, from the jubilant blues of 'Cautious Tortoise' and the album's title track, evoking the dappled light and darker shade of the titular forest, to the more anarchic, angular approach of 'YoYo', the set's bustling closer.

This is a courageous and highly-skilled debut from an exciting young musician and composer, a joyful set of impeccable jazz which rewards deeper listening. Time and again.

Jazz isn't dead. Well, actually, in this case, it is... but in the most thematically appropriate way for the 20th Anniversary edition of the Grim Fandango soundtrack. Composer Peter McConnell's trumpet-y and rambunctious big band lounge act can finally be listened to the way it was always intended - on vintage black vinyl. Real human orchestras were rarely used for videogame music back in the 90s, but in this Remastered Director's Cut, every note was re-recorded and performed by actual fleshy people. In celebration of Aretha Franklin's Iconic legacy, her first Christmas album and 36th studio album will be re-released in November for the first time ever on vinyl. The acclaimed artist puts her timeless stamp on a mix of 11 traditional and contemporary classics associated with the Christmas season. Aretha Franklin herself produced three tracks and arranged and added her inimitable touch as a pianist to two tracks ("Silent Night" and "14 Angels").

Yes, there is much more of a pop R&B vibe to them with swinging arrangements and large horn and string sections but that unique and perfect voice is still there, here piano playing is gorgeous, and there are some serious Northern Soul burners in the bunch. The Tender, The Moving, The Swinging Aretha Franklin, from 1962, features some beautiful ballads and killer floor fillers and will please any fan of early '60s soul and R&B.

Based on a very accurate selection from different recordings from the golden era 1935/1937, this album originally released on Columbia consists of a gorgeous collection of classic performances by the one and only Lady Day accompanied by a stellar cast of jazz greats such as Lester Young, Teddy Wilson, Benny Goodman and the great Count Basie's rhythm section with Freddie Green, Walter Page and Jo Jones.

"Swingin'" is the key word for this great 1962 recording session with the marvelous Dexter Gordon's tenor saxophone, leading an all-star quartet including Sonny Clark - piano - Butch Warren - bass - and Billy Higgins - drums.

The album opens with the infectious, Afro-Cuban groove of "Soy Califa', featuring the unique Billie Higgins beat, and develops through some Hi-Class renditions of romantic standards such as 'Don't Explain' and 'You Stepped out of a Dream', plus the dynamic Latin rhythm of Butch Warren's 'Backbone'.

Joe Jackson is an English musician, singer-songwriter who scored a major hit in 1979 with his first release Is She Really Going Out With Him'.

Live 1980/86 is a double live LP which was recorded during the 1980 Beat Crazy tour, the 1982-83 Night and Day Tour, the 1984 Body and Soul tour and the 1986 Big World tour. These performances took place in Manchester, Utrecht, Sydney, Melbourne, Vancouver and Tokyo. During the four tours Jackson goes through different periods in his songwriter's career, each time using a new backing band. Live 1980/86 charted in the United Kingdom, USA, The Netherlands, Australia and contains the live acoustic and a cappella versions of Is She Really Going Out With Him', It's Different For Girls', Steppin' Out' and features new interpretations of classic hits from Joe Jackson's vast repertoire.

The Live 1980/86 double album, original released in 1988, celebrates it's 30th Anniversary in 2018 and the 180 gram records are housed in two printed inner sleeves.

One of the most beguiling and enigmatic figures in popular music, Scott Walker (born Scott Engel) began his career in Los Angeles playing as a session bassist and recording demos. This eventually led to several singles under his birth name ranging across the popular teen sounds of the time, from rockabilly to doo wop to pure pop. Though these are decidedly of the time, you can hear in his voice the truly mind-bending work that was to come from Mr. Walker. A fascinating look at the early work of a truly brilliant cult figure. When Norman Granz brought two major jazz stars into the recording studio for the first time together in 1956, the results were never going to be less than enjoyable. Sure enough, the resulting album, entitled 'Ella And Louis', proved to be a highly popular release and has remained so decades down the line. To have supreme song stylist Fitzgerald in tandem with the man who virtually invented jazz singing must have been a dream ticket for impresario Granz who, in his lifetime, recorded nearly all of the musicians who helped shape the music. This amazing gatefold 4LP set includes the albums 'Ella And Louis', 'Ella And Louis Again' and 'Porgy And Bess'.

Though she had been performing professionally since the late 1920s, as a teenager in Harlem, during its Renaissance, the immortal Billie Holiday didn't play a single night on the European continent until 1954. It was in that year that the great journalist and musician Leonard Feather, and a Swedish promoter organized the Jazz Club U.S.A. tour, named after Feather's wildly popular radio program. Featuring Red Norvo, Sonny Clark, and more, the centerpiece of Jazz Club U.S.A. was, undoubtedly, Lady Day. Recorded at various dates across the tour, Lady Love shows Holiday still had it, despite the turmoil, and drug and alcohol abuse, her voice remained strong, a stunning document of one of America's greatest treasures on her first ever tour of Europe.

In the late 1950s, it was common for big labels to record performances simultaneously in Mono and Stereo, and then release both versions at the same time, with different reference numbers. This was explained at the time by the fact that Stereo was still a very recent innovation, and not everyone had sound systems capable of reproducing the new technology. The Stereo
albums were slightly more expensive than their Monocounterparts. Over time, the Mono versions were condemned to oblivion, and only recently some music fans began to value these long forgotten masters, which capture classic performances from a different aural point of view.
