Choose Your Adventure is the debut album from Sacramento, California's, Arts & Leisure. Formed in 2011 by founding members of the orchestral pop outfit, Baby Grand, Arts & Leisure strips things down to the basics (two guitars, bass and drums), but ups the ante (and volume) with two singer/songwriters, Gerri White and Becky Cale. 'Choose Your Adventure' combines elements of '60s pop, '70s power pop, '80s new wave, and '90s shoegaze, all of which helps to craft the group's own brand of buzzy, hook-laden dream-pop. Here, the songs ride a rollercoaster of sound where the hushed and bittersweet can turn, in a beat, to exhilarating and anthemic. The band's lush harmonies and addictive melodies often invite comparisons to artists such as The Breeders and The Primitives, but ultimately Arts & Leisure has a style all its own—one which will have you singing along with them both on stage and on your stereo.

Les Disques du Crépuscule presents an anthology of classic recordings by Tuxedomoon, the exiled American avant-gardists who recorded for the label between 1981 and 1983.
*At Twilight includes all tracks from the three vintage LDDC singles Ninotchka, Time to Lose and The Cage, as well as rare compilation tracks including Shelved Dreams and Weihnachtsrap, the latter recorded for festive Crépuscule album Ghosts of Christmas Past. Also included in the haunting opening theme from The Ghost Sonata, an 'opera without words' performed by the group in Italy during the summer of 1982, while the set closes with the final three song demo with Blaine L. Reininger before his (temporary) departure in 1983.

Formed the band 'Josephine Collective' at 16. Signed to Warner Bros. Records at 17 and left to take off on his own at 18. That's the banging credit openings of music producer and DJ, formerly known as Fire for Effect, now Ultrademon; real name Albert Redwine.
     
Now working at The Center For The Advancement Of Transmodern Awareness and studying at Vocaloid School prior to that, Redwine is musically trained in piano and the Kansas-born and now Chicago-based Ultrademon is leading the current and controversial 'Seapunk' movement, which emerged from a dream his friend once had.

There's no concrete evidence of piracy but pop culture has indeed seen recent splashes of aquamarine: Nicki Minaj painted her skin blue for a Vogue shoot; Katy Perry wore a turquoise bob, Rihanna adopted the design aesthetic and a Google Image search of 'seapunk' pulls up a photo of Lady Gaga with a neon blue wig.

Seapunk is a mostly internet based phenomenon, featuring a sort of cyber punk meets futuristic Mad-Max on water attitude meant for those who can surf the gnarliest swells of the world wide wave. They can be spotted around in bright outfits of green, purple, ultra violet, and sea foam blue, wearing water socks, sporting shell necklaces and Hawaiian floral print shirts.

Music-wise Seapunk is a style of electronic music that incorporates bits of 90s house and techno, the past 15 years or so of pop and R&B, and the latest in southern trap rap—all overlaid with a twinkly, narcotic energy that recalls new-age music, 16-bit era video games and chopped-and-screwed hip-hop mix tapes in roughly equal measure.

Over the years and in rapid fashion, the front man's positive vision of trans-humanism and heightening awareness through music via 'Seapunk' has amassed a loyal and cult legion of followers both online and in real life. His ocean-themed digital paradise philosophy continues with his own imprint, Coral Records Internazionale, which was formed in September 2011 as a way to transform the flotsam and jetsam of the digital electronic underground into something more physically permanent. Its music less DJ oriented but still paying homage to the roots of electronic dance music.

Edinburgh duo, Birdhead release their highly anticipated debut album on Gamma Proforma. The last year has seen them gain airplay extensively on BBC Radio 1 whilst playing live around the country with notable gigs including a support slot for Death in Vegas. Described in the media as Neu meets Kraftwerk, their uniquely Scottish twist on Krautrock is unmistakeable.

Pleasure Centre features ten riff laden tracks, a perfect marriage of guitar and synth. At times hi-energy driving electronics push the tempo, later followed by smouldering guitars and gritty vocals. The limited edition vinyl album comes with a special edition art print by legendary urban artist Phil Ashcroft, who's responsible for all the bands cover art.

Flashback to 2009, maybe late winter or something like that. The Road Chief comes back from his extended stay in Belgium all laced up with new jams from the underground. We're blazing the trails of the NE Ohio streets and valleys and on his stereo he's got this "Palm - Escape From New York" disc. I become immediately intrigued and bewildered - so many questions to ask. "Who is this" "When was this made" "HOW was it made"

Feeling pert, we moved forward to pursue a vinyl release for the now deceased Wagon imprint, in high hopes we could deliver this platter immediately, being the non-stop jam that it is. Many emails, dead ends, events, tours, records, other releases, projects later the record seemed like it would never happen. We couldn't get anything lined up, we didn't have the time to get the ball rolling, and years had started passing by quickly.

Flash forward to two months ago, loading up my iPod shuffle to take to work, and I see "Palm - Escape from New York" in the "tunez" folder. A few cups off coffee into work and jamming the "Escape From New York" at maximum volume, work became very productive all of a sudden - but I became so bothered by the mystery of this album that I had to go home and do some research. I tried some various contacts and shot a few emails without any expectation. Only days later I received word back from the Palm mastermind. He says "yes".

Out from Italy, one of the countries where Glitchwave has had a redoubled impact, emerging new festivals, feasts and blogs centered on the genre, Go Dugong has been widely acclaimed by the ones like Sun Glitters, Slow Magic, Populous or Giraffage.

In this single, which includes the participation of Life & Limb, it is introduced a sound that combines dreamy chillwave sound with glitch-hop and lo-fi shoegaze soundscapes, and in recent shows, where the stage was shared with projects like Holy Other, Slow Magic, Giraffage, XXYYXX, Beat Culture and Blackbird Blackbird, won the audience in an unexpected way, since these were unreleased tracks.

A native of Korea, cellist/composer Okkyung Lee has been developing her unique voice in both improvised and composed music by blending her wide interests and influences. Since moving to New York in 2000, she has worked with numerous artists ranging from Laurie Anderson, David Behrman, Douglas Gordon, Vijay Iyer, Christian Marclay, Jim o'Rourke, Evan Parker and John Zorn just to name a few, while leading her own projects and releasing more than 20 albums and touring extensively in the US and Europe. Okkyung was a recipient of Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grant in 2010.

Ghil was recorded and produced by the Norwegian artist Lasse Marhaug. Instead of recording in what has become the standard in modern contempoary music, with high-end equipment and in controlled studio settings, Marhaug wanted to record Ghil in an expressionistic way - to purposely use crude equipment and unorthodox microphone placement in order to give a more raw and direct depiction of Okkyung playing her music. Marhaug says if it they were making a film, it would be like shooting on grainy 16mm black&white with close-ups instead of 35mm colour cinemascope.

Thus all of Ghil was recorded on a portable cassette recorder from 1976 that Marhaug had just bought second hand. The sessions for the album were done during spring of 2012 in and around the Oslo area. The locations varied from places like Marhaug's studio; a back alley in Oslo center; a cabin in the forest on the Nesodden peninsula; and a former hydroelectric powerplant in the mountains outside Rjukan.

The recordings have been edited, but no overdubs or other post-manipulation other than mastering.

Innode enters the world with an audacious debut of rhythm and sound, space and silence and an astonishing blend of the acoustic and the electronic. Spearheaded by Stefan Németh (co-founder of Radian, Lokai) in close collaboration with Steven Hess (Locrian, Pan.American, Cleared) and Bernhard Breuer (Elektro Guzzi, Tumido), Gridshifter is an intense, astonishing sonic experience which navigates the line between formal structures and experimental interplay. Conceived as a series of crossbred experiments where, on one side, a human rhythm triggers electronic signals whilst on the other electronic textures sculpt a platform for physical human engagement. The stark dynamics and Human/Non Human interaction manifests itself as a thrilling expose of 21st Century rhythm and noise.
The term Gridshifter plays on the idea of composed disorder by applying opposing moves upon a template of rigid structure. On certain tracks a strict time line or grid is spiked via grids of a different size being played at the same time, whilst on others, Steven and Bernhard 'shifted' the grid by overlaying their own rhythms, resulting in a destabilised sonic environment.
As Németh describes the artwork he sums up the entire modus operandi, "These arrays, or biochips, are samples of DNA laid out as a series of microscopic spots bound to a small glass slide. Corresponding images look highly organized, but show a lot of tiny imperfections at the same time...this fact makes them especially interesting for me.'
Innode explore an exhilarating terrain whereby simple, pure forms, both human and electronic weave together, unfeathered, untarnished, unprocessed and leave a web of intense, extreme sonic dynamics.

From their beginnings as the house band at a commune of artists in south London, improvising to silent films and theatre pieces, Flying Ibex have progressed through a sea of influences including African tapes, Brazilian Maracatu and analogue gear. The band emerged at the end of 2012 with their debut album Travel in Dangerous Places ("Immensely pretty... I'm smitten with this record" Tom Ravenscroft). Largely the solo work of Barnaby Keen, the album laid out the songwriting and arrangement blueprint for what was to come - the polyrhythmic grooves, deceptively simple harmonies and wandering melodies of that record are in full bloom on this new material. The tracks see Flying Ibex grow beyond the solo talents of Barnaby Keen and fully incorporate the skills of bassist Nathaniel Keen and drummer Dave De Rose, who between them sport a list of collaborations including Mark Ronson, Andreya Triana, Moloko, Sound Species and Electric Jalaba.

BLESSURE GRAVE has grown, regressed, died and experienced rebirth since 2008. With over a dozen releases on
too many labels to name, the current lineup of Owen Glendower, Carlos Sandoval and Tobias Grave has revisited the earliest
acoustic-based neo-folk / post punk experiments they exhibited on 'Unknown Blessures', offering forth a six song record
entitled 'The Flashing'. The first set of new material since 2010 combines melody and minimalism with lyrics exploring love,
imprisonment and anxiety. Limited edition of 300 copies comes on clear vinyl. Also includes a 12'' double-sided
professionally printed insert and a download card.

In Italy, they are known as the Anni di Piombo, the 'Years Of Lead', a period of
unprecedented political turmoil between the late '60s and early '80s across the country.
Sparked following an attempt to merge the neo-fascist Italian Social Movement (MSI)
into the ruling Tambroni government and a subsequent coalition between the Christian
Democrats (DC) and the Socialist Party, nearly 2000 murders were attributed to political
violence during this dark period in the form of bombings, assassinations and street
warfare between rival militant factions, including the high profile murder of DC leader
Aldo Moro in 1978.
Kompakt artist Alessio Natalizia from Walls brings together 'Mutazione', a collection of
reactionary underground electronic and new wave rarities from Italy, recorded during the
tail end of this turbulent era. Based around a hotbed of activism in Tuscany and the Emilio
Romagna region, bands emerged from squats and both right and left wing militant
groups, feeding off the national paranoia and angst to create a unique sound, rooted in
punk but touching on new wave, electronic, experimental and industrial styles. Much of
the music was released on limited cassettes. Fanzines sprang up, both from political
groups and the bands themselves, in turn spawning new artists - Suicide Dada, featured
on this album, emerged from a collective running the VM fanzine in Turin and the Traxxtra
collective of underground musicians also published a regular lo-fi magazine of their own.

Factory Benelux presents a new CD edition of I'd Like To See You Again, the third studio album by Manchester postpunk funk group A Certain Ratio, originally released by Factory Records in October 1982.
*I'd Like To See You Again was the last Ratio album to feature the original quintet of Donald Johnson, Jeremy Kerr, Martin Moscrop, Simon Topping and Peter Terrell, and saw the band move from the ethereal textures of Sextet towards a more stripped-down sound, influenced by the Latin and electrofunk scene in New York. Stand out tracks include rubber-thumbed bass workout Touch, vocoderized percussion excursion Show Case and the minimalist, muscular grooves of Guess Who - which was also issued as a 12' single on Factory Benelux.

Pooling together a group of influences as diverse as its members, BESTIAL MOUTHS present a raw, synth-driven energy
propelled by singer Lynette Cerezo's powerful vocals. Often likened to Diamanda Galas, Siouxsie Sioux or Lydia Lunch, Cerezo
delivers each note with fury and abandon. Synthesists/keyboardists Christopher Myrick and Gustavo Aldana channel early industrial,
EBM, goth and minimal synth pop in turns, blending harsh electronics and lush melodies. When fused to Aldana's splintered programmed
beats and the tribal rhythms and samples of drummer Jessica Reuter, the harmonics combine to breathe new life into post
punk, weaving their own distinct creation in the process. Bestial Mouths has released an album on Dais Records.

DEATHDAY is a Los Angeles based outfit playing angular, minimal synth latent music inspired by early factory records / Manchester
post-punk and European electronic stylings à la the French and Belgian cold wave movements; blending dark and often esoteric
images with sparse, primal,and analog sounds. Deathday has been recording and performing its music since 2007 and have
released tracks on Downwards and Mannequin records compilations.

'A Life Is Everywhere' is an ecstatic mix of rhythm, noise, drone, texture and melody. Simultaneously heartfelt and not for the faint hearted.
Within their self contained world Cindytalk continue the unique trajectory that has purveyed their career starting in 1982. This instalment further explores the fearsome terrain that was initiated with previous Editions Mego releases such as 'The Crackle of my Soul' and 'Hold Everything Dear'. Throughout the 6 tracks on offer the standard fair of music is run through serious level processes leaving, taking rhythm and sound to extreme limits whilst always retaining trace elements of their core. Ringing bells are interrupted by artefacts from shredded sound matter, euphoric chords are swamped by chopped rhythms which succumb to an endless storm of electronic bliss. Utopia has never been so bold.
The unique positioning of Cindytalk's output over a 30+year period is a testament to the will to explore. Unfettered by trend, taste and desire. This is unadulterated expression, a future music for those willing to confront the future as a viable option.

Russell Haswell (UK) and Yasunao Tone (Japan) have a rich history in exploring the extremes of sound and technology, where they intertwine and where the potential lies for deviation from the function intrinsic to their design. Both artists have undertaken years of rigorous exploration of sonic phenomena via the production of music tools. The constant shift in synthesis and production over the decades has only provoked further challenges resulting in an excited means of exploration and consistently new and challenging results.

Over the course of his practice Haswell has disentangled the limits of Digital Audio Tape (DAT), the Sound Designer II software, Xenakis' UPIC system and analogue synthesis systems in a relentless pursuit of the new in the known. Yasunao Tone's audio investigations have regularly placed him within the systems and processes he has developed to generate works. His Wounded CD works and his interactions with data entry and software interfaces, such as graphic tab lets in 495.63 (2007) and his MP3 Deviation software employed on this release all provide a path whereby the human input creates a juncture in the 'normal' operations of the tools at hand.

Convulsive Threshold is the result of years of research and experimentation. Haswell's systems of hybrid analogue/digital audio generation are one of the starting points for the Convulsive Threshold collaboration, and in part define its sonic palette. The results of his synthesis become subjected to Tone's MP3 Deviation techniques, modified and manipulated in response to deviated MP3 files. The results are a glorious spiral of sound, space and dynamics, a hyperactive Mandlebrot set which exudes relentless reconstruction, chaos and as a result, presents an entirely new form. Convulsive Threshold forms a dialogue which sees two of the most recalcitrant sound artists active today coming together as one.

Ever since Stephen Sharp and Roc Jiménez de Cisneros embarked on the deconstructive process they refer to as Rave Synthesis, the goal was to come up with odd relatives of well established sounds in techno culture by constantly messing with the original recipes, expanding the tropes, and hinting at novel paths for contemporary psychedelia. Almost three years after the influential 'Rave Slime', their fifth long player takes the idea one step further.
The content of 'Proper Headshrinker' was first presented in public as part of the group exhibition 'Recurrence, repetition, hypnosis and ritual', curated by Paul Purgas at Färgfabriken, Stockholm, 6/12/12 - 13/01/13. In the show, right next to the speakers playing these tracks, the sentence "Like a balloon producing balloons, producing balloons" was printed on the wall in Pantone 805 fluorescent red, the same colour used on the cover of the album. As it turns out, the title of the exhibition almost feels like the perfect tagline for 'Proper Headshrinker'. The ten tracks in the album are unlikely techno anthems, stripped down hoovers, and deformed supersaws driven by extremely simple cyclic patterns. Ten pieces of identical length that focus on continuity, neighbourhood, and iteration, but also on sameness, insideness and outsideness.
Sharp and Jiménez de Cisneros have used key words such as "slime", "stretching", "sonic Play-Doh", "squeezing" or "folding" to illustrate the notion of homeomorphism (a metaphor borrowed from topology) in relation to the structural developments and the way in which tone bends in their Rave Synthesis tracks. In 'Proper Headshrinker', though, this continuous deformation is much more oblique, since the only source of variation in these monolithic structures comes from subtle phase modulations. The resulting straightforward brutality demands deep listening and, as usual, proper playback volume.

*New Hope for the Dead is a heavy, sonic assault built upon the politics of dissent. Produced by rock legend Chris 'The Dark Lord' Tsangerides, the new songs cover a wealth of subjects, from the fracturing nature of society and the twin evils of extremism and bigotry, to the lack of engagement by today's generation and the attraction of things that ultimately harm us.

*'We're not here for a nostalgic reunion, we're here because we've got something to say,' says singer Abbo. 'There's been three or four generations of music since we split up but no one's really taken up the mantle of kicking against a world of apathy, discrimination and totalitarianism.'

*Long-hailed as one of the godfathers of post-punk, UK Decay reformed three years ago after a hiatus of three decades. Since then have played to audiences across Europe and have been well received by a new generation of fans, alongside those who saw them the first time around.

*'We're finding our voice resonates with old and new alike,' says guitarist Spon. 'It's a new time but the same problems exist. We've always been a political band, but one that's able to reference human passions too. The new album encapsulates all of that and presents it with a sound that's the best we've ever achieved.'

*Factory Benelux presents Dark Light, the brand new album by post-punk trailblazers Section 25, Factory workers since 1979.
*Recorded in 2012, Dark Light is their first collection of new material since the tragic loss of founder Larry Cassidy in 2010, and marks a return to the smooth electro and synth-pop textures first explored on their seminal 1984 album From the Hip. These echoes are amplified by the presence of co-vocalists Beth and Jo Cassidy, and a sublime cover image by iconic artist/designer Peter Saville.
*Much of Dark Light was produced in collaboration with remixer Derek Miller (aka Outernationale), and includes new versions of recent single tracks Colour Movement Sex & Violence and Inner Drive. Other stand-out cuts include future pop classic My Outrage, which will also be made available as a limited edition 7' single (7 FBN 62) to mark World Record Store Day in April 2013. Social Distortion's third eponymous album from 1990 turned out to be their best-known work and would come to spawn the most hits, with singles 'Ball And Chain', 'Story Of My Life' and the Johnny Cash cover 'Ring Of Fire'. It mixed Punk with Rockabilly, Blues & Country, and split the difference between Rockabilly and Ramones-style Punk. It is albums like this that prove why Social Distortion was able to survive the demise of the LA Hardcore scene with flair and come out on top!

Ben Billington is a resident Chicago staple and multi-instrumentalist crucial to the Metro area experimental landscape. He can morph his styles seamlessly and is fluent in many musical languages, wether he's playing in Moonrises, Circuit de Yeux (as a touring drummer) or in the legendary underground free-jazz unit Tiger Hatchery. "Mayville" is the sophmore LP following his "Silver Balloons in Clusters" LP on Under the Spire (while originally released as a cassette on Deception Island some time ago.)
With "Mayville Dream", it's all Billington and the results are outstanding. Taking from every direction and experience his knowledge and songcraft, Billington has crafted a well-varied album of instrumental suites that are as eclectic as they are eccentric. Being primarily trained as a drummer, various kinds of percussion appear throughout with many rhythmic angles that accent the intricate melodies and structures to make them truly unique. The opener "The Many Roads to Mayville" opens with a concrete flutter before doing a complete 180 into a total color storm of melody and syncopated percussion. "Institutes Innards" flips the mood right away with its deep urgency and melodies that demand introspect. Tracks like "Bemus Has Wings to Fly" and and "Closer to Towanda" display an ability to thickly layer pieces and parts to make a logical whole while displaying elements of early psychedelic rock and with the knowledge of early private sides in tow.
"Mayville Dream" has a special impact because you hear Billington stretch himself out over every playing style he knows and beyond to create something that's all his own.
