Hans Zimmer - Hannibal

  • 10: The Burning Heart
  • 11: To Every Captive Soul
  • 12: Vide Cor Meum

Hans Zimmer's score propels us into Lecter's twisted psyche, evoking an atmosphere of foreboding and dread. The soundtrack alludes to many classical pieces, from the delicate "Aria da capo" from Bach's Goldberg Variations, performed by Glenn Gould, to an off-key, subtly disturbing Blue Danube, with nods towards Mozart, and mixed with Zimmer's atmospheric electronica and haunting string melodies. Anthony Hopkins delivers three suitably chilling Lector monologues. Part of four new to vinyl reissues. This has original artwork with printed inner sleeves. Hans Zimmer & Lisa Gerrard - Gladiator

Hans Zimmer's score for Ridley Scott's Roman masterpiece, complete with Wagner-like anthems of war and accompanied by music evocative of Holst, was nominated for an Academy Award and won a Golden Globe for Best Original Score. Zimmer's score was voted Number Four in the 2016 Classic FM Movie Hall of Fame. Part of four new to vinyl reissues. This has original artwork with printed inner sleeves. Gladiator is presented in a gatefold sleeve. All releases are 180g heavyweight vinyl, and include download codes. Guido & Maurizio De Angelis - Il Grande Racket (aka The Big Racket)

Now for the first time on vinyl, Four Flies Records is proud to present an unmissable Eurocrime soundtrack by Guido & Maurizio De Angelis, composed in 1976 and considered to be one of the genre's finest offerings directed by Enzo G. Castellari.
Perhaps the most forceful OST from the Italian duo, IL GRANDE RACKET consists of fuzz distortion and electronic effects from the beginning to the end. This sonic gem is also enriched with psychedelic flutes, obsessive rhythms, and percussion which results with a totally prog-rock and psych-funk score that perfectly describes the main elements of the film: action, tension and violence.
Remastered from the original master tapes preserved for decades in the C.A.M. archives, and augmented with exclusive liner notes by Davide Pulici (Nocturno Cinema) and stunning original artwork created by Luke Insect, this edition will be a true pleasure of the senses for any and all soundtrack lovers.

Riz Ortolani - Si Puo' Essere Piu' Bastardi Dell'ispettore Cliff (aka Mafia Junction)

Previously unreleased full edition for this explosive jazz-funk score by Italian Maestro Riz Ortolani, created in 1973 for the crime-movie Si può essere più bastardi dell'ispettore Cliff' (also known as Mafia Junction').
Only two tracks from this OST were published at the time in a now extremely rare C.A.M. 7-inch, but that was enough to create the legend...
Four Flies is honored to had access to the original C.A.M. master tapes, so to present here, just your pleasure, the complete session for the first time!
Just expect one of the funkiest piece of the whole Ortolani's career: car chases, sex scenes, vicious kills are served here by amazing drum breaks, fat bass lines, captivating horn section and wonderful guitar effects.

Totally outstanding session, and a real new classic for all crime-funk lovers!

  • B4: Siracusa: Appunti D'epoca
  • B5: Notturno Breve
  • B6: Lasciando La Casa Antica

Among the few Italian prog groups who survived the '70s, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso belongs to an even smaller circle of bands that never followed any musical trends all over the years. Such as PFM, they entered the EL&P record label Manticore roster, and tried to open up to the foreign market with the album "Banco" (1975).
This operation did not give the expected results though and, once back to Italy, the band released the following year, again on Manticore, "Garofano Rosso", soundtrack to a movie by Luigi Faccini. First, but not unique, Banco's all-instrumental work (followed two years later by "... di terra"), it also sounds perfect as a stand-alone work: pop, rock, folk, jazz and classical music come together in a complex and unstructured style, dynamic, unpredictable and yet affordable at the same time.
The film went virtually unnoticed, and consequently its soundtrack didn't get due recognition at the time of its release. "Garofano Rosso" is now reissued on VM label on colored vinyl in a faithful reproduction of the original LP: a unique opportunity to discover a hidden gem of Italian progressive rock!

Faten Kanaan - The Darkest Wave

Next up on Polytechnic Youth (following the killer, sold-out-in-a-day ATL Music For Air-Cooled Motoring' LP) is a fabulous 45. Arguably the label's highest profile release thus far, the mighty Pye Corner Audio joining forces with PY label mate Faten Kanaan for an ace split 45.
In PCA's Martin Jenkins' own words: Faten Kanaan first came to my attention with her wonderful cassette release 'EP'. We started corresponding shortly after that and I always had it in mind that we should collaborate on something. So when PY asked if I would contribute to the label, and then released Faten's 'The Botanist & The Archaeologist' LP things seemed perfectly aligned'.
A side The Darkest Wave' features pulsing icy synth drones over which Faten's cool NY narrative owes nods to some 70's Carpenter-eque VHS chillwave soundtrack, (not unlike some of Umberto's work of the last decade or so.) A beautifully evolving, slow burner piece which over continuous plays reveals one of the year's great A sides so far.
The B side is a stripped down piece more in keeping with the seminal minimal synth singles of the late 70s beloved by both artist and label here. Indeed, Martin Jenkins' sleeve art also doffs it's cap to the artwork feel of some of those legendary post punk 45s.
A magical 45 released as a one time pressing of 500 45s on vinyl only with Polytechnic Youth discography card. Incidentally, look out for a new Faten Kanaan LP currently being recorded, on Polytechnic youth later in the year.

  • A4: It Means Love
  • B1: Ghost Chase

A stunning Piccioni score for the soundtrack of the homonymous film directed by Al Bagram (a pseudonym under which the Spanish filmmaker and screenwriter Alfonso Balcázar worked). Jazz-noir numbers and disturbing chamber arrangements enforce the dark atmosphere of the film, a gothic film from 1972 that transcended the italian GIALLO tradition (which was actually an Italian-Spanish co-production). The themes created by the Maestro for this metaphysical horror bring to light a disturbing classicism, wrapping the listener in a gloomy (often nightmarish) horizon. One of the most sought after soundtracks by Piero Piccioni, available for the first time on vinyl on SUB OST.

Ost - The Revenge Of Shinobi

Collaborating once again with legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro, Data Discs is thrilled to present one of the most revered and timeless soundtracks of the 16bit era: The Revenge of Shinobi. Composed in 1989, the music for the Mega Drive game (known as The Super Shinobi in Japan) blended Western dance music with Japanese overtones, to create something truly unlike anything else before. The soundtrack was Koshiro's first commissioned work for SEGA and served as a forerunner to his seminal Streets of Rage trilogy, where the concepts and styles he founded with Shinobi would be expanded upon to astonishing effect. Koshiro's work on The Revenge of Shinobi remains a testament to the ingenuity of early game composers who, when given enough creative freedom, found the means of drawing new and unexpected sounds from extremely limited hardware.

The Revenge of Shinobi is presented as a 180g bone coloured LP, cut at 45rpm and packaged in a 425gsm outer sleeve, with heavyweight inner sleeve and double-sided lithographic print, featuring original artwork sourced from the SEGA archives in Japan. The release also includes exclusive liner notes written by Koshiro himself.

Aitor Etxebarria - Markak

After more than 10 years releasing music under the pseudonym of 'El_Txef_A' the enigmatic Basque musician

is ready to open a new era with his first solo record as Aitor Etxebarria.
Markak (Soundtrack from the Motion Picture) is Aitor's first original work for Cinema. After the premiere of the documentary on the San Sebastian international film Festival , a limited amount of vinyls will be released this April coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Gernika (one of the main themes of the documentary).
Composed and recorded on the Basque Country, Aitor stopped for a few months his full schedule of tours to focus just on the film score.
If it's 'marks' what we're talking about, in the case of Gernika the bombing suffered on 26th April 1937 is a deep and lasting mark of profound symbolic value. For the creation a number of internal symbolic norms are essential, necessary to lend meaning to our enviroment. The creator creates on the basis of the stories he has received, the images, the feelings. Gernika's past is a field for creation amongst Gernika's young people. The documentary explores what these young creators 'have locked away inside them', their emotions. The bombing is a wall in the life of people, an interruption. It is a violence that breaks away from peaceful routine, a denial of the freedom to choose that a people and its inhabitants should have. Contrasting with this is democracy, the political system that guarantees the freedom of people.
My love wears forbidden colours
My life believes
My love wears forbidden colours
My life believes in you once again

Bernard Herrmann - The Day The Earth Stood Still Ost

Robert Wise's 1951 The Day The Earth Stood Still is one of the greatest titles of science fiction cinema. The 1950s was the golden age of sci-fi movies, and probably this one is on top of the list, along with Forbidden Planet. One of the coolest points of the movie is the incredibly astonishing soundtrack from outter space provided by master Bernard Herrmann (famous, of course, for his Alfred Hitchcock soundtracks). Composed in July 1951 and recorded in August, Herrmann took advantage of theremin master Samuel Hoffman to add the menacing athmosphere that would become a trademark in 1950s sci-fi soundtracks. In addition to Hoffman's theremin other instruments included violin, cello, and bass (all three electric), another theremin played by Paul Shure, two Hammond organs, a large studio electric organ, three vibraphones, two glockenspiels, two pianos, two harps, three trumpets, three trombones, and four tubas. Unusual overdubbing and tape-reversal techniques were used, as well.

The soundtrack was suprisingly never issued on disc at its time, so here's a unique chance to have this landmark recording on wax in your collection!

Comes in ultra cool front laminated flipback sleeve in a limited edition of 300 copies only.

SANGUE DI SBIRRO ("Bloody Avenger' / Blood and Bullets'), is certainly one of the most prestigious works made for Italian cinema in the 70s: an Italian noir set in Philadelphia, where the jazz-funk library's background of the Maestro Alessandro Alessandroni meets deep soul & black music. It was recorded November 15, 1976 at the Ortophonic Recording Studio in Rome under the supervision of historical sound engineer Sergio Marcotulli.

An obstinate rhythm which opens to jazz, funk and disco, with moments of pure easy listening (Tema di Susie is one of the best Alessandroni's film themes). Sounds and arrangements typical of blaxploitation (including an original reinterpretation of Shaft's theme) but with a proudly Italian's touch. As always, many excellent soloists were involved in the recording session, including a young Enrico Pieranunzi on Fender Rhodes, Dino Piana on trombone and Silvano Chimenti on the electric guitar. A five stars soundtrack.

Life is a science fiction horror film directed by Daniel Espinosa and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson and Ryan Reynolds. The film follows a crew aboard the International Space Station as they study a sample of organic matter brought by a space probe returning from Mars. Their studies verify the sample is the first proof of extraterrestrial life, but the experiments backfire as the organism gains intelligence and begins growing rapidly. Trapped aboard the ISS, the crew must find out how to kill the being before it escapes to Earth.

The original soundtrack to Life was composed by director Espinosa's frequent collaborator Jon Ekstrand (Easy Money, Child 44). Ekstrand has crafted a score, which sets an ominous mood for the film which builds expertly before giving way to the sheer terror of being pursued in an isolated otherworldly environment. This release is not to be missed.

Before he went on to direct the smash-hit films La La Land and Whiplash, Damien Chazelle began his career with Guy & Madeline on a Park Bench. A jazz musical film written and directed by Chazelle while he attended Harvard, Guy and Madeline tells the story of a young couple, an up-and-coming trumpeter and an aimless introvert, whose relationship falls apart as the glow of their new love fades. Heartbreak, hope and regret follow as the two try to find meaning in their new lives apart from one another.

Chazelle was steadfast that a film so focused on the world of jazz and tap would need an excellent score. Luckily fellow Harvard student Justin Hurwitz was recruited to the challenge of composing Guy and Madeline, which he flourished at. Hurwitz meshes the classic big band sound of early 20th century jazz sensibilities with smaller progressive ensemble pieces and lyrics written by Chazelle to delightful results. Now available for the first time, Guy and Madeline shows the early genesis of a Hollywood partnership that would be responsible for multiple modern classics.

Max Richter - Out Of The Dark Room

Max Richter

Out Of The Dark Room

CD3299039987322
Milan
08.05.2017

Milan Music is pleased to release this great MAX RICHTER anthology, featuring his most beautiful compositions for films, and to be released on 2xCD and 2xLP:
Within the past few years, Max Richter has emerged as one of the leading figures in contemporary music. The work of this German-British composer (born in 1966) is marked by eclecticism: concert music, film scores, ballet, opera, and his many solo albums have enjoyed great success.

Max Richter is at the crossroad of many contemporary artistic languages through a wide variety of collaborations (Tilda Swinton, Robert Wyatt, Future Sound of London, Roni Size). As one might expect from a student of Luciano Berio, his work explores a very wide range of currents and influences.
In this universe, film music occupies a privileged position and the variety of filmmakers Richter has worked with reflects the ductility of his inspiration. Regarding the role of music in a film, he once wrote: I think music is a kind of amniotic fluid and that the film lives in it. Sometimes music can be at the forefront, playing a supportive role without even realizing it, but if you take it away you would miss out on the basics.' This album, to be released as a double CD and double LP, features the most beautiful excerpts of the soundtracks to Waltz with Bashir, Sarah's Key, Wadjda, Disconnect, The Congress, and Testament of Youth.

Adapted from Tomi Ungerer's classic children's story THE THREE ROBBERS (more than 2,000,000 books sold worldwide), this magnificent animation film marvellously interweaves poetry, fantasy and arresting charm with a perfect touch of juvenile impudence and anarchy.

It was vital to find exceptional music to fit this exceptional project. A film about robbers required real robber music,' says producer Stphan Schesch. There was no way that we were going to have some kind of soft birthday party music. We wanted something like 'Tom Waits for children'. We contacted the most diverse array of groups and artists who then sent us their recordings. And one wonderful day, we received a song that completely inspired us - from Bananafishbones. It went perfectly with the ambiance and can be heard in the background throughout the film. And our robber actors - Król, Hübner and Bela B. Felsenheimer - did a fantastic job singing the original music. The remainder of the score was done by the American Kenneth Pattengale (DOWNTOWN L.A.), a musician from Los Angeles who took Tom Waits' style and embellished it with a wide range of musical references drawn from his incredible repertoire.

Tony Iglio, born in 1932, has been one of the most popular orchestral arrangers of RAI (Italian National Television) and has composed over 1500 songs. Son of art, over the years he has played with and for the most important figures of the last century in Italy. Drugstore was recorded in 1971 in a small theatre in Napoli by a combo of professional musicians and is rated the weirdest and most insane Italian library of the early 70's mixing jazz, psychedelia, effects and purcussions. The free CD includes a 8 pages booklet with rare photos and liner notes from Jonny Trunk.

Egil Monn-iversen Orchestra - Himmel Og Helvete (original Movie Soundtrack)

Moving Music records present the previous unreleased soundtrack to the Norwegian cult movie, Heaven and Hell. A soundtrack written and composed by Norwegian maestro Egil Monn-Iversen. It features some of the key Norwegian jazz musicians, Terje Rypdal, Jan Garbarek and the late Svein Christiansen. Jan Erik Kongshaug mixed the session.

It was originally recorded summer 1969 and planned for a full release, but it never happened, until now! One of the most exciting Norwegian releases this year.

Egil Monn-Iversen nearly perfect score borrows elements from John Barrry and Lalo Schifrin soundtrack music, the opening theme song, sung by Inger Lise Rypdal sounds like it could be a Norwegian Bond movie theme! Key players are hired in from the late 60's Norwegian jazz-scene and you can hear early talents like Jan Garbarek and Terje Rypdal in full bloom! The result is a vivid soundtrack that could rank up with any good 60s 70s European groovy soundtrack score!

About Moving Music

Moving Music, a newly founded label run by Tobias Edborg-Torjussen (Preservation Records) and Fredrik Lavik (Jazzaggression Records), that focuses on unreleased Norwegian soundtrack music.

"Questa specie d'amore" is a 1972 movie by Alberto Bevilacqua, here in a dual role of writer and director, since the film is taken from his book by the same name. Two years after "La Califfa", Bevilacqua confirmed Ugo Tognazzi as the main actor and Ennio Morricone as soundtrack composer. While the first one confirms himself as an exceptional protagonist, in the dual role of father and son, the second is not far behind, as the author of a beautiful romantic and poignant. Yet another excellent product of the film and musical Italian, set in the socio-political ferment of the early 70s. The score of "Questa specie d'amore" was published on a full-length LP in '72, a very rare item today, and later on CD with the addition of seven tracks. This reissue is the very first ever on vinyl, and presents a renewed artwork and includes all the sixteen cuts of the complete edition of the soundtrack.
