Four Flies is proud to present another sensational find buried for far too many years and very in demand by every Umiliani enthusiast worldwide. Recovered from original reels, and presented for the very first time on a refined 10'' vinyl, here are 5 tracks from the highly sought-after recording session of "Paranoia".

This was the second collaboration for director Umberto Lenzi and composer Piero Umiliani, and the second chapter of the sexy thriller Baker trilogy, a.k.a. abroad as "A Quiet Place to Kill".

Once for all, we can officially forget the original film credit titles, to whom the musical score is credited to one Gregoria Garcia Segura (named just for co-production reasons), and confirm that all the tracks were composed and arranged by Piero Umiliani, who also conducted his orchestra.

A great score finally resurfaces: from action-jazz to psychedelic feel, with the special gem of the opening title song, the extraordinary "You", sung by the delightful voice of Shirley Harmer, which is undoubtedly one of the most moving things Umiliani has ever written; an orchestral pop-jazz ballad whose every chord is filled with class and sensuality… and still gives us goosebumps.

Rare 1979 recording of Bernard Baschet performing on his Sound Sculptures.The Baschet brothers are known worldwide as creators of Sound Sculptures, fantastic shapes of moulded metal and glass, which combine the visual arts with music.François Baschet had always been fascinated by acoustics, by the relationships between the shape and material of an intrument and the beauty of its sound.Bernard Baschet was passionately interested in contemporary music and firmly believed that such instruments were the proper tools for modern music, for they offered to the artist and performer a personal means of expression denied by electronic devices.Together the brothers began to design and produce Sound Sculptures, which could also be regarded as musical instruments.Circa 1965, Bernard worked alongside Pierre Schaeffer as a member of the GRM (Musical Research Group) on the elaboration of what was to become Schaeffer's "Traité des objets musicaux" (Treatise on Musical Objects).The Baschet brothers also created structures and instruments of all sizes, including bell towers, windmills and fountains, using the natural elements of wind and water to make music. Bernard Baschet was especially proud of his pedagogical work amongst deprived and handicapped children, with the instrumentaium made up of fourteen pieces.

Jackie Brown is a 1997 crime thriller film written, produced and directed by Quentin Tarantino. EuroNoize was a live music event modelled on the Eurovision song
contest, but featuring a bizarre cast of DiY, alternative and underground subpop bands. Taking place on May 23rd, 2019 at the Scala in London, it featured musicians from across Europe performing one new song in front of a live audience.

Like pop music, the idea of Europe belongs to everyone and no one. Via colonialism this idea has been universalized and exported as a unified fantasy that collapses together Alexander the Great, Marco Polo, Picasso, Napoleon and Heidi. If EuroNoize is a celebration of any kind of Europe, it is not the fortress that we live in today, but the infinitely expanded´freedom of movement, collaboration and cultural exchange that it allows us to imagine.

Now on gatefold vinyl, the songs from EuroNoize are a celebration of the obscure, the niche and the uncategorizable, music that runs deeper than national borders. It represents the secret international fellowship of punx and weirdos stretching from Russia to Ireland.

Italian film composer Piero Umiliani began working with the trumpeter and actor Chet Baker during the late 1950s. Of part Norwegian and Anglo-Saxon origins, Chesney Henry Baker Jr was born into a musical family in the small town of Yale, Oaklahoma, in 1929. After singing in the local church choir, he began playing trombone but soon switched to the smaller and more manageable trumpet. He joined the US Army just after the end of World War II and played in the 298 th Army Band while stationed in Berlin and began studying music theory at El Camino College in Los Angeles, following his discharge, but re-enlisted to play in the Sixth Army Band while stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco. Out of the Army for good in 1951, he played with saxophonists Vido Musso and Stan Getz before joining Charlie Parker for a series of West Coast live dates. He then joined the Gerry Mulligan Quartet, becoming a mainstay of the Los Angeles jazz scene, until Mulligan’s drug bust forced Baker to form a quartet of his own. Chet Baker And Strings was issued by Columbia in 1954 and he began recording for Pacific Jazz the following year; cast in the film Hell’s Horizon, Baker turned down a Hollywood studio contact to travel to Europe, touring the continent for eight months, which resulted in the album Chet Baker In Europe. Heroin became a significant part of the picture in this era and when he began working with the arranger and conductor Ezio Leoni (aka Len Mercer) in Milan in 1959, Baker was arrested for drugs and jailed in Pisa, temporarily disrupting the proceedings. Baker and Umiliani first joined forces in 1958 for the crime film I Soliti Ignoti (AKA Big Deal on Madonna Street, Persons Unknown or Le Pigeon), reportedly the first instance of jazz being used for an Italian comedy film; Il Paradiso dell’Uomo and Smog followed. Italian Movies draws from the best of Baker and Umiliani’s cinematic collaborations, the atmospheric compositions backed by a group of session players centred on drummer Ralf Ferraro, acoustic bassist Berto Pisano, guitarist Enzo Grillini, tenor saxophonist Livio Cervellieri and Franco Ciari on vibraphone, along with Baker’s expressive trumpet leads and composer Umiliani on piano.

Directed by Gerard Johnson, HYENA is a breakneck thriller dealing with Police corruption in West London with an incredibly atmospheric score by Matt Johnson aka The The. Following super-bent copper Michael, HYENA highlights the dark and grimy side of being on the take, with none of the flash and glamour usually seen in movies like this. The The - scoring their second movie with Gerard Johnson after TONY - give the film an evocative soundtrack that weaves between seduction and horror.

The score to HYENA comes across like a fever dream, vignettes of hip-hop and house beats with incredible synthesizer melodies laid on top, threatening electronic effects roaring like a Formula 1 car engine, even choral sections with haunted vocals that show the inevitable influence of Vangelis. Instrumentation is eclectic, with electric and acoustic guitars creating anticipation and dissonance while steel drums and Eastern strings subconsciously illustrate the diversity of the area. Similarly, HYENA combines its musical influences to produce a score that reflects the danger of Michael's situation but also the exhilaration. No matter how you feel about corruption or the police, HYENA is essential.

Invada Records release Dan Levy’s score to Netflix animated feature ‘I Lost My Body’ on vinyl. The score is pressed on ‘One Red Disc, One Blue Disc’ double vinyl and comes housed in a heavyweight gatefold sleeve with each record itself housed in a heavyweight double-sided printed inner bag featuring artwork and credits. Levy is one half of the French electro-pop duo The Dø, along with Olivia Merilhati. He also produces for S+C+A+R+R who is featured on the album. “Music is a powerful thing; it can be an emotional experience that surfaces new ideas about reality and truth,” says Dan Levy of his experience scoring the film. “Working on ‘I Lost My Body’ was the first time I scored an animated film, and I was seduced by the magic that emanated from the intense and painstaking work that goes into creating a film like this.” An unforgettable visual journey from director Jérémy Clapin, ‘I Lost My Body’ follows a severed hand as it escapes a Parisian laboratory and treks across the city in search of the rest of its body. Known as Samurai Spirits in Japan and originally released for NEOGEO in 1993, Samurai Shodown is one of SNK’s most classic and timeless 2D fighting games, featuring fast-paced gameplay, beautiful graphics and catchy music.

The soundtrack, composed by Norio Tate, achieves the difficult task of producing traditional Japanese sound comprised of instruments such as the shamisen and shachihata while maintaining a distinct NEOGEO vibe. The result is a beloved soundtrack that is simultaneous timeless, yet historical.

There are two variations of the soundtrack: an AES version and a NEOGEO CD arranged version. Samurai Shodown The Definitive Soundtrack will include both versions, featuring the entirety of the original soundtracks remastered and restored to the highest possible quality, in collaboration and consultation with SNK.

The CD and vinyl editions will feature a booklet containing artwork from the SNK archives, in addition to in-depth liner notes written by some of the original creators of the game, including series creator Yasushi Adachi, as well as Tate. Presenting for the first time on vinyl - three tracks taken from one of the most obscure and fascinating scores by Stelvio Cipriani, recorded in 1980 for Joe D'Amato's exotic-erotic classic, ORGASMO NERO.

"Seq. 1" is an incredible afro- cosmic cinematic track, driven by superb conga work and other percussive instruments. Side B features the funkier "Seq. 3" (mid-tempo) and "Seq. 5" (downtempo) - both sexy and mysterious at the same time. Deep, obsessive atmospheres, blending together tropical colors, tribal vibes, and evocative moods.

Visionary synthesist Abul Mogard renders a darkly sublime soundtrack for ‘Kimberlin’ , an experimental film about the Isle of Portland on the English south coast, which coincidentally doubles up as metaphor for the mood of an increasingly inward-looking UK.
Taking its name from the local word for an outsider or “foreigner”, the short film ‘Kimberlin’ was filmed on location during the months following the advisory referendum of 2016 which lead to the current, purgatory state of “Brexit”. Combining mostly wordless, lingering shots of the Isle of Portland’s bleak and rugged landscape with Abul Mogard’s washed out but richly evocative music, made with manipulated field recordings, modular synth and layered Farfisa organ, the project came to reflect a sense of (be)longing, loneliness and outsiderness that also perhaps uncannily mirrors the putative collective feeling since that darkly historic vote, over three years ago.
Taking cues from the evocative poetry of lifelong islander, stonemason and poet Cecil “Skylark” Durston (1910-1996), as well as a news report on the discovery of a mysterious cinema found interred by foliage in the Isle’s cave systems, the merging of image and sound speak to their subject in an organic, impressionistic manner that leaves billowing room for imagination.
Mogard’s soundtrack opens out with a slow-burning, greyscale iridescence, tenderly manipulating the sound of fog horns and bird calls in briny modular spray and gloaming Farfisa organ swells that, when combined with song titles such as ‘Flooding Tide’ and ‘Playing On The Stones’, serve to evocatively connote the film’s subject matter.
The results can be heard as echoes in the digital future of an England that’s now difficult to grasp, most hauntingly transposing the meaning of Cecil “Skylark” Durston’s description of the Isle of Portland as a place where “quarry bells no longer ring, except in old men’s dreams” to the ever-present, never-ending riddle of Brexit and its generationally devastating bleakness.

'The Mountain Has Fallen' starts with Systematic,' DJ Shadow and Nas' first-ever collaboration together. The song debuted during the season premiere of HBO's Silicon Valley in April. Horror Show' finds Shadow and Danny Brown collaborating for the first time over a jagged, haunting soundscape. Good News' is a brand new composition, reminiscent of some of Shadow's more free-form, fractured work found on 2016's 'The Mountain Will Fall' full-length.

The EP closes with Corridors,' a piece featuring Academy Award-winning composer Steven Price (who scored the 'Gravity' film). Shadow is a massive fan of his work, and Price wrote and programmed the string parts on the song.

It's been 20 years since I Am Shelby Lynne, the album which earned her a Best New Artist Grammy nod. This time, Shelby Lynne, her debut Thirty Tigers release, removes the I Am and gets direct to the heart of the singer-songwriter-instrumentalist who gives it her name. This is an album of mostly solo, spare but emotionally rich, original torch songs done the only way this idiosyncratic artist knows how at once tortured and vulnerable, with intimate feelings laid bare, but ultimately offering hope that there’s a light in the darkness. Recalling her 2008 Dusty Springfield tribute, Just a Little Lovin, recorded with the late Grammy-winning producer Phil Ramone at the same Capitol Studios where the new album was mixed, the soulful Shelby Lynne is her most personal, autobiographical statement yet on the dual, push-pull nature of love: at once close enough to touch, but also a frustrating tease that can both seduce and abandon. The album itself proceeded from a collaboration between Lynne and lyricist/director /screenwriter Cynthia Mort that morphed into an unreleased, full-length feature film, When We Kill the Creators, featuring several live recordings made right on the set of the production, which explains their raw immediacy. Starring Lynne representing not just her alter ego, but all endangered musicians and artists, the movie makes a strong case for the ever-going conflict between art and commerce, and how dangerous it can be to muzzle creativity for the corporate buck. Songs like the opening, ominous Strange Things (with lyrics by Mort), the aching Revolving Broken Heart and the climactic self-declaration Here I Am (another collaboration with Mort) all recorded live during filming take on a narrative arc that exists on its own. really a new Shelby Lynne album, she explains about this set of songs, her first solo release since 2015. Her collaboration with Cynthia Mort is the first time she’s done something like this since working with Ron Sexsmith on several songs for her previous disc, I Can’t Imagine. When we met, I wanted to go someplace else with my writing, get out of my own head. She came along and I just loved her words, her landscape, her mind, the visions I got. I found songs and stories in her lyrics. They drove me to different musical places. It’s been a fun journey. The Detroit-born Mort, a lifelong music fan best known for creating and producing the HBO series Tell Me You Love Me, wrote the original screenplay for the film and the lyrics for Here I Am before she ever met Shelby.

There are strains of underground hip hop that predict the mainstream's future or find themselves in conversation with its present. In the new "Square Wave Adventures" game the drama continues and this time you can partake in the action! The game is pure 8-bit video game madness. The plot is set in a futuristic retro dystopia. SuperMonster has captured Torb The Roach and, with him locked away, deploys his weapons of mass production to enforce a terrible reign of uninspired musical excess. As the last hope, Mac Space disembarks on a heroic quest to free Torb and save the universe from eternal monotony. Urged onward by the thumping rhythms and hypnotic basslines from the soundtrack, Floppy battles his way through SuperMonster's minions and agents of evil towards an inevitable final showdown with SuperMonster himself!

The album, which is the soundtrack to the game, showcases the duo's signature sound combining 12-bit drum machines, samples & classic synths, such as the Minimoog and Yamaha Dx7. Square waves have been tossed into the broiling brew of sounds as well, resulting in a full palate of new and surprising acoustic flavors!
