As part of Arkane® Studios’ 20th anniversary celebrations, Laced Records has teamed up with Bethesda Softworks® to bring the music of the Dishonored® series to vinyl. This five-disc box set features a curated selection of tracks by original composer Daniel Licht, and other contributors, from the soundtracks to Dishonored, Dishonored 2, and Dishonored: Death of the Outsider™.

The Dishonored series is renowned for its immersive storytelling, unique level design, adaptive combat systems and compelling characters. From the top of Dunwall Tower to the depths of The Void, Daniel Licht’s atmospheric scores have helped immerse players in the shadowy world of Corvo Attano, Emily Kaldwin, Daud, and Billie Lurk.

The intense friendship between two thirteen-year old boys Leo and Remi suddenly gets disrupted. Close is a film about friendship and responsibility.

Close premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022 to critical acclaim and won the Grand Prix. Specialized critics praised the performances.

The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards. It also won the André Cavens Award for Best Film by the Belgian Film Critics Association.

At the 12th Magritte Awards, Close received ten nominations, including Best Screenplay for Dhont, becoming the most nominated film of the ceremony and ultimately winning seven awards.

After training at the Music Conservatoire in Lyon, Valentin Hadjadj gained professional experience that led him to collaborate with the likes of Pink Martini and Gérard Corbiau, and compose the score for the feature film Avril et le Monde Truqué, which was nominated at the César and took home an award at the Annecy film festival in 2015. The beautiful score of Close is now finally available on vinyl. This is a limited edition on red coloured vinyl.

The Ivor Novela award-winning Horizon Zero Dawn soundtrack has been a collaboration with composers Joris De Man, Joe Henson, Alexis Smith, Niels Van Der Leest and the Guerrilla Games Audio Team. Opting for a thematic approach Horizon Zero Dawn has a strong motif that plays often in many variations throughout the game ensuring a cohesive soundtrack.

The first piece of music entices us, we hear Julie Elven‘s solo voice slowly moving through the theme. The use of the female voice is very powerful in this context and is an apt choice considering the relation to the female protagonist Aloy.

Once exploring the open world of intensely gorgeous environments, music isn’t always overbearing, drawing our attention instead, to the sounds of “nature” around us, but always serving to warn us of any threatening machines that may be aware of our presence. “Battle” music is never overstated but instead reflective of the electronic/digital origins of the enemies. Percussion is the natural contrast to the “digital” sounding world of the machines, instead reflecting the tribal themes of living in the wild, with fear of futuristic ruins.

There are often places in the game where music becomes a part of the world, where drummers are performing and singers take stage around villagers, singing and praising.

In July 2017, the Horizon Zero Dawn soundtrack won a Jerry Goldsmith award for the best original score in a video game.

Joris Maarten de Man, known as Joris de Man (born 30 June 1972) is a Dutch composer and sound designer, well known for his work on the video game Killzone.1[2]

His first work involving video games was chip music written for Atari computers under the moniker "Scavenger." He was also employed as a freelance composer writing for CD-i games in The Netherlands. He spent 3 years working in London for the Bitmap Brothers on sound design and music composition. In 1999 he returned to the Netherlands and found work with Guerrilla Games.[3]

In cooperation with The Flight, Niels van der Leest and Jonathan Williams he composed the Soundtrack of Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Disc 1 features songs from the movie from the likes of Butthole Surfers, Blind Idiot God, Henry Rollins, Axiom Funk (George Clinton & Bill Laswell) and Iggy Pop.

Disc 2 features Kevin Kiner's original score, which is so good that it could easily rival any number of Amblin's films from the '80s. Kiner's music is incredibly nuanced, yet playful and bombastic (in a good way) that it is a revelation when listened to independent of the film.

In the spring of 2017, Atlanta-based Grammy-winner Speech, from the hip-hop crew Arrested Development, travelled to Virginia with the goal of recording an album behind bars. Speech was invited to the Richmond Jail by Sheriff C.T. Woody Jr., who was implementing a rehabilitation program that included job training, substance abuse treatment, group therapy and a makeshift recording studio.

In a small concrete room on the jail’s 6th floor, Speech met with four men in the REAL program—Teddy, Anthony, Devonte and Garland—listened to their stories and collaborated with them on original compositions and lyrics. The process, captured by Brooklyn-based filmmakers at Resonant Pictures, became the documentary film “16 Bars.” These recordings were captured in one jail, in one city, over the course of just a few weeks. And yet, the struggle, perspective and inspiration these four men express in their lyrics expose a much larger picture.

“This music is capturing this moment in time in our country,” says Speech. “We have the largest prison population on planet Earth. In some states, one in four black males are gonna spend time in prison. That’s a lot. And I know we don’t necessarily have all the solutions, but we’re also not asking the guys on the inside why they’re actually there. They have things that they need to be able to say to all of us.”

Speech Thomas is widely considered one of the godfathers of conscious hip-hop. His band Arrested Development’s 1993 debut album “3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life of...” went quadruple platinum and achieved what few thought was possible at the time, establishing an Afrocentric alternative to gangster rap that was commercially viable. 25 years later, Speech continues to tour the world with his band and seek out opportunities to use music to address issues of social and racial justice.

In June 2020 USM will reissue a collection of twenty-two original songs recorded for Julian Temple’s 1986 film ‘Absolute Beginners’. The album will be available as a 2 LP set. This release will also mark the first time that all 22 songs have been available on CD, previous versions of this format being highlights only.

The film cast included Patsy Kensit, David Bowie, Eddie O’Connell, Ray Davies, Sade, James Fox, Mandy Rice-Davies and Steven Berkoff (with ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ cameos from Sandie Shaw, Eric Sykes and Strictly judge Bruno Tonioli). The soundtrack album boasts three songs by David Bowie (including the theme song, a 1986 number 2 single) that weren’t included on any of his studio albums. It also includes the Sade song ‘Killer Blow’, Ray Davies first solo single ‘Quiet Life’, and ‘Riot City’, an eight-and-a-half minute Jazz instrumental that marked a first solo outing for Jerry Dammers. All three tracks are unavailable elsewhere. In addition there is an extended version of The Style Council single ‘Have You Ever Had It Blue’?’ also unique to this album.

The album was produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley, whose many credits include No. 1 singles for Madness and Dexys Midnight Runners. It features brass arrangements by Gil Evans, widely recognised as one of the key orchestrators in jazz, acclaimed for his collaborations with Miles Davis.

Originally funded via Kickstarter in 2015, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, spearheaded by legendary game creator Koji Igarashi, was released in June 2019 to critical success. One highly rated element of the game was its melodic, moody and catchy music, composed by Michiru Yamane, along with Keisuke Ito, Ryusuke Fujioka, Atsuhiro Ishizuna and Ippo Yamada.

GS-011: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night The Definitive Soundtrack will come in a 4-LP box set containing all 46 tracks. The set will come with a booklet containing liner notes (in English and Japanese) from Michiru Yamane and Koji Igarashi.

Laced Records once again teams up with Gearbox Software and 2K Games to bring the original soundtrack to the definitive looter-shooter, Borderlands, to vinyl.

The 2009 smash hit Borderlands blended first-person shooting with role-playing elements; fused single-player with multiplayer experiences; added 87 bazillion guns; and came out all puns blazing with its gag-heavy story. It also kept fans coming back with an extensive slate of DLC that consistently expanded the world and characters.

The richly talented composition team brought several different flavours to the game. Legendary composer Jesper Kyd (Assassin’s Creed, Hitman) set the tone with dirty, dusty, percussion-heavy musical soundscapes flecked with Wild West guitars. Duo Sascha Dikiciyan & Cris Velasco (with credits including Mass Effect 3, God of War 3, and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided) brought the filth and the danger to battle cues. Borderlands series stalwart Raison Varner contributed outlandish battle tracks and, alongside Tim Larkin (DOTA 2, Artifact), saw to some of the more atmospheric and ambient pieces.

30 tracks from the original soundtrack, including bonus tracks not before released on physical formats, have been specially remastered for vinyl, and will be pressed onto 180g LPs. These will be housed in a wide spined gatefold sleeve. Sleeve artwork was produced in collaboration with Gearbox’s Borderlands art team.

The album was met with widespread critical acclaim upon release and charted at No.1 upon release on the Billboard 200 chart. The album has since gone on to be certified x3 Platinum in the US by the RIAA.

Limited Edition Red Vinyl Compilation of (mostly) original holiday songs from Memphis industries artists in aid of Crisis' Home for All Campaign. This year independent record label Memphis Industries have corralled their musical titans to create some holiday songs with the hope of brining cheer and warming cockles to the cynical and season loving alike. This festive collection, available on vinyl and digital, is called Lost Christmas, the name of Memphis' long running series of Christmas shows, that, for obvious reasons can't happen this year. The album (with cover art by Luke Drozd) features faithful renderings and krautrock reworks of seasonal classics but mostly entirely original compositions, destined to soundtrack office parties and family get togethers in an alternate universe for years to come.
