‘Named after a street in the historic center of Quito, ROCAFUERTE paints an anachronic and anatopic picture of voyages between Latin America and Europe, set to a multitude of beats ranging from trip hop and reggaeton to juke and UK Garage, which the artist uncompromisingly blends with nostalgic samples of Italian chanson and Southamerican folk, warped through the magic of the artists' trusted tape machine.’

Almas Fronterizas - Cruel Desperation

Cousins Gilberto and Karin Rodriguez have been steadily synthesizing a unique type of musical and cultural fusion together as Almas Fronterizas. Blending their lived experiences in Mexico City, Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area with a musical lineage paying homage to their Indigenous roots, they've created a representative musical offering, a modern day psychedelic sonic painting of analog blues, rock, and brown-eyed soul.

The group's first several releases, via their own imprint Discos Pistolas y Saguaros, solidified their space in a wide encompassing and constant changing West Coast music scene, yet stood out with an experimental freedom and independent hustle that found kindred spirits in New York City record label Names You Can Trust.

Now, after a suitable time marinating together with NYCT, a natural continuation of the group's ethos is presented in the form of two new songs on 7-inch vinyl. Featuring a third cousin in Carlos Rodriguez on trumpet, plus percussive powerhouse Ahkeel Mestayer on timbales, conga and maracas, Brian Tuley on flute, Devin Hollister on bass and horn arrangements by La Doña's Cecilia Peña-Govea, the tracks were recorded in Berkeley by Mike Walti and mixed down in Brooklyn for a true coast to coast collaboration. Out in the front, Gilberto's vocals drive drop-top down, wide open and honest in melancholic blue notes, whether he's motoring down the highway over northern soul-with-a-hook A-side, "Cruel Desperation," or cruising on the avenue in the slow-motion B-side ballad burner, "Linda Morenita," it's another showcase of the tremendous range of style and engaging expression that this group can hit.

AFROSOUND - LA DANZA DE LOS MIRLOS

Afrosound's mission was to emulate the guitar-heavy tropical sounds emanating from Perú and Ecuador at the time. To add to the hippie vibe, there were plenty of whacky improvised vocal asides (called 'inspiraciones'), plus custom fuzz, wah-wah, flange and echo effects boxes for the guitar and keyboards. A barrage of odd sounding synths, drum machines and other electronic flourishes were also sprinkled in to spice up the proceedings. The dozen tracks on Afrosound's debut long play make for a surprisingly diverse palette from which these Colombian musicians painted their daring portrait of Peruvian cumbia, returning the favor in bold colors that still resonate almost 50 years later. "La danza de los mirlos" kicks off with most famous Afrosound hit of all, 'Caliventura', a genius blend of funk and cumbia. Aside from the cumbia amazónica title tune, there are several other covers including three popular songs by Nelson y Sus Estrellas, plus radically reimagined versions of various Colombian costeño classics published by Fuentes. Mario "Pachanga" provides a sad but still groove-oriented Christmas son montuno / cumbia hybrid while Fruko brings us the bomba-funk ditty 'El chorrillo' and the rocking cumbia andina gem 'Cabeza de chorlito' where Sepúlveda channels Enrique Delgado. Fruko collaborator Hernán "Hercovalle" Colorado Vallejo rounds things out with the melancholic psychedelic cumbia 'Esperando por ti', proving that every tropical party has to have its down side as well. The record was also released in the US, Ecuador, Perú, Panamá, Mexico and Venezuela, and probably had an influence of its own, at least in South America. The cover of this lovingly restored reissue features the artwork for the Peruvian edition, which was licensed and issued by Lima's El Virrey label in 1974. The original Fuentes artwork, with a far more outrageous "cheesecake" image, can be seen on the back cover.

Dj Marky: Influences Vol. 2

2x12inchBBE361CLP
BBE
11.07.2017

Globally renowned for his vibrant, melodic sets and productions, Brasil's DJ Marky has been playing records for over a quarter of a century, making his debut at the tender age of twelve (yes, really). In the late 90's, Marky's fresh energy and eclectic influences provided a much-needed tonic for the UK's Drum & Bass scene, his sun-drenched crossover anthem 'LK' eventually entering the UK Top 20 in 2002. The intervening years have been spent spinning records all over the world to rapt audiences, as well as absorbing more and more wide-ranging global sounds to add to his distinctive style. Marky's long awaited debut album finally dropped in 2015, aptly titled 'My Heroes', reflecting this uncommonly humble artist's habit of constantly championing his favourite musicians and musical inspirations. With this unselfish spirit firmly in mind, we are proud to announce the release of 'Influences Vol. 2', a compilation album and DJ mix showcasing a selection of Marky's favourite music, created with a healthy disdain for genre-puritans and an emphasis on fun. Taking in traditional Brazilian music, disco, acid jazz, early house and of course a little Drum & Bass, 'Influences' is more of an invitation to a barbecue in the São Paulo sunshine than a chin-stroking 'back to mine' selection. Few artists display the ability (or the will) to transcend the genre in which they most thrive, but Marky is quickly establishing himself as a powerful tastemaker, perhaps even South America's answer to Gilles Peterson or Laurent Garnier. Fans will revel in the acid house and latin rhythms which provide much of the DNA of his Drum N Bass stylings, while casual listeners will simply discover a seamless music journey through a breathtaking number of eras and styles. A music-lover and fan first and foremost, Marky's infectious enthusiasm for his craft has never been more evident than on this very special record.

Village Cuts, Louis Towers, Mahon Sounds - Vengo Ganao

LTD 300 Copies first original press ever. Village Cuts are a dynamic DJ / Producer duo from London, showcasing music from Africa, Latin America & the Caribbean, through the lens of UK club culture.
For their debut on Galletas Calientes Records, they've produced an electro-soukous double-sider alongside Colombian Champeta legend Louis Towers and British guitar virtuoso Patrick McMahon aka Mahon Sounds. Although never having set foot on Champeta's promised land (that is Colombia), the duo managed to get a pertinent grasp at the genre, adding most of the elements to their own Afrobass flavor and UK club production technique. West African beats, "caidas" (drops) and "despeluques" (frenzy) along with a crazy rhythmical use of the Yamaha SK5's most distinguished samples such as the "perreo" (synthesized barking sound) - all set up for a heavy tropical madness!
While "Vengo Ganao" and Towers' Afro-Colombian vocals call for a sexy "baile amasizado" on a sunny beach in front of a "pico" style Caribbean Sound-System in Barranquilla, "Cheza" is an uptempo instrumental, 80s style bass-heavy Congolese soukous dancefloor joint, where Patrick McMahon shows his outrageous guitar skills.

Alba & The Mighty Lions - Matemática

What's the equation that reveals your love? On the latest single from Alba & The Mighty Lions, the question is posed and answered in the form of a beautiful soul slow-roller. Alba Ponce de León's charming word play, both mathematically-minded and straight from the heart, is calculated as a sum of English and Español, and multiplied by the suave accompaniment of a Mighty Lions' backing track that cruises the border of lowrider soul and enchanted exotica. Adding it all up, you may find an answer to this magical schoolyard test, depending on how the numbers align for you. A witty and passionate take on a classic formula, "Matemática" is a deep and sweet flow, a slow dance mood for the heads and lovers alike.

REAL GONE MUSIC
18.03.2021

Two of our favorite records that we here at Real Gone Music have reissued in the last few years were the debut pair of records (both originally released in the early ‘70s) by legendary Brazilian percussionist Airto; each album serves up a savory, bubbling stew of Brazilian folk, fusion jazz and bossa nova spiced with a hint of tropicalia. While Airto’s contributions on each record were, of course, front and center, there was another player on those records that almost stole the show: one Severino Dias de Oliveira a.k.a. Sivuca, a small, wizened man (often somewhat uncharitably described as “gnomish”) whose dazzling virtuosity on accordion, guitar, and keyboards—coupled with a powerful singing voice that belied his small stature—made one instantly sit up and take notice. Further investigation revealed that stealing the show was nothing new to Sivuca; championed by Oscar Brown, Jr., he was the instant star of tours by both Harry Belafonte and Miriam Makeba among others. Sivuca started making records back in the mid ‘50s, and recorded for a number of labels in the States, including Reprise and RCA, but it is this record, made in 1973 for the Vanguard label, that is the one that collectors worldwide have zeroed in upon. And with good reason; it offers the same beautiful blend of styles found on those Airto records, but with an emotional shading all its own, a joyfulness paradoxically infused with melancholy, best expressed on Sivuca’s mesmerizing take on Bill Withers’ oft-covered “Ain’t No Sunshine,” which is likely to become your favorite version.

Born out of the favelas and samba schools of São Paulo, the Afro Bruk Band Project is a collaboration
of singers, poets, musicians, friends and family. Their sound is inspired by Bossa-Nova, Afrobeat,

The brainchild of the project is Swiss-based Ruben Estevez, producer and DJ of Bruk Boogie Kru sound
system. His aim was to create a live project, to promote musicians, to diffuse their passion out of Brasil
and to export Brasilian musical street culture.
The project touches on many geographical locations. Most of the recordings were done in São Paulo
with a few finishing touches in Johannesburg and final production by Ruben Estevez in Switzerland and

Apache - Liberate | Hombre

"Matasuna Records" is delighted to make a musical detour to Mexico for the first time with its new release. The 7inch contains two rare Latinfunk & -Soul songs of Mexican band "Apache". The songs "Liberate" and "Hombre" were released in 1975 & 1976 and are now available on vinyl again for the first time ever. This time Matasuna companion "Voodoocuts" is back again to contribute a formidable rework of "Hombre".

Members of the band "La Fórmula ER77" formed "Apache" in the early 70s in Torreón, Mexico. The 8-piece band performed on many stages, but became known to a larger audience through an appearance on the popular Mexican TV show "Siempre en Domingo". Another success was their song "Kung Fu Chino", which was popular throughout Latin America.

In 1976, their first LP "Del Bumpin Al Hustle" was released, which contains, with one exception, only cover versions of international hits from that time. Although the originals were popular music, Apache adopted them with their own funky attitude.

At the end of the decade, the original group disbanded. Two members joined with other musicians in the early 80s to pursue a different musical direction under the new band name "Tropicalisimo Apache", which is still active today.

"Liberate" is a song composed by "Rafaél Gonzáles, who was also responsible for the production of the LP. The song is the only original composition on the album and differs stylistically from the other songs not only because of that: Liberate is a heavy Latin funk joint par excellence that leaves you wanting more!

On the flip side, you won't be disappointed: "Hombre" is another great song composed and arranged by the band's trumpet player, "Ernesto Haros". "Voodoocuts" Rework strips down the original to its instrumental base to skillfully build a new arrangement, which is enriched by additional samples, a bunch of beats and breaks and various effects. Without a doubt another tropical dancefloor treat!

22.02.2021

One of the 'holy grails' of 1960s Cuban music was not recorded, produced or released in Havana or New York; in fact it was made in Lima, Peru under interesting if somewhat unexpected circumstances.

Pianist Alfredo "Alfredito" Valdés Jr. (May 31, 1941, Havana - January 23, 2016, New York), one of the most important figures in Latin music, came from an illustrious musical family in Cuba. In 1956, he emigrated to New York with his family, making him one of the forerunners of Cuban-based salsa music in the US. Three years later at age 18 Alfredito joined Arsenio Rodríguez and his conjunto; then in 1961 Ray Barretto recruited him for his Charanga La Moderna. Alfredito kept himself very busy, studying music and literature during the day and playing at night with the bands of Tito Puente and Machito as well as Arsenio and Barretto. He was a quick reader and writer of music and displayed an impressive versatility and level of skill on the piano.

It was precisely these qualities, combined with random chance, that saw Alfredito become substitute pianist for Machito and His Afro-Cubans for a tour that would take him to Colombia and Peru for a number of engagements in the winter of 1964 and into the new year. While in Lima, several problems arose with the Argentine businessman and tour promoter Mauricio Támara who took the Machito gang to the Peruvian capital but forfeited their pay and left them stranded and penniless to fend for themselves in December of 1964. Machito's brother-in-law and musical director Mario Bauzá had to travel to New York to get money for the return of the entire company; meantime the rest of the musicians had not even enough to eat. They ended up being stranded for a total of 3 months.
It is from this embarrassing and depressing turn of events that the enterprising Alfredito Valdés Jr. was able to spin musical gold in his newfound Peruvian home. Saying to his band mates, "I am not going to starve here," Alfredito began searching the streets of Lima for record labels. Thankfully he was able to find sympathetic ears with Miguel Ángel Guerrero, sound engineer and proprietor of Discos MAG, with whom he made a deal for some recording sessions (at cut rate fees, but earning some money was better than none!), which eventually produced two albums, the first of which was Gozando!!.

Alfredito played multiple roles on the date: arranger, pianist, percussionist, singer and director (as well as choosing most of the material). Perhaps due to the fact that it was recorded in South America, Gozando!! has more than simply Cuban and Nuyorican genres like pachanga, mambo, descarga, guaracha, and bolero; there is also a fantastic cover of the Colombian cumbia classic 'Tabaquera'.
Overall, the swinging MAG sessions sound like a long lost record by Cachao and Tito Puente if they led an orchestra with Charlie Palmieri on piano and Tito Rodríguez on vocals (and played pachangas like Machito's Afro-Cubans 'with flute to boot'). Ultimately the Afro-Cubans were able to pay their bills and return to the United States in February, 1965.

Though the 'Al Valdez y su Conjunto' sessions for MAG may have been enjoyed by a few South American and Mexican aficionados at the time, the scarcity and obscurity of the releases insured that they would become "legendary lost records" rarely heard until recently, when the MAG vaults were opened and the reissues started to flow.
Always an extremely rare collector's item, Gozando!! will now be able to reach a wider vinyl-loving audience with this first-time ever faithfully reproduced facsimile edition.

New label from Colombia / Amsterdam. Hot!!! Recommended listen : "Rastafara" & "Uhey Le La"

In 1990 at a small recording studio located in the infamous Bazurto market in Cartagena de Indias Colombia, Mariano Perez aka the “bionic accordionist” and Champeta godfather Hernan Hernandez teamed up to create the band Grupo Renacer. These recording sessions would prove to be extremely fruitful culminating in the bands first self-titled album Grupo Renacer - Vol. 1

Ushering a new sound by blending local folkloric rhythms from Colombia’s Caribbean Coast along with strong musical influences and styles from the Greater Caribbean region and Africa the result was a blistering set that included songs like “Rastafara” “Las Amargadas” and the local hit “La Bolsa”.

Capitalizing on their success Mariano Perez went on to record a follow-up album Grupo Renacer Vol 2. Songs like “El Colera” and “Uhey Le La” would further cement Mariano Perez and Hernan Hernandez as legends in the local “pico” aka soundsystem subculture scene that had taken hold of Cartagena and Barranquilla respectively. While both original albums remain elusive and under the radar, Worldwaxrecords has decided to compile in one single album the songs that we feel best represent the work and achievements of Grupo Renacer and the vital role this band has had in shaping Champeta soundsystem culture not only in Colombia but all around the world.

Ironically the word Renacer in Spanish means “rebirth” or to be
“reborn.” We hope that with this timely release we can commemorate the arrival of a new year and the beginning of a new dawn. ( By Sanjay Agarwal)

Naná Vasconcelos with Agustín Pereyra Lucena - The Incredible NANÁ

Often missing in Naná Vasconcelos' discographies, this is in fact the first recorded work to his name, one year before recording for Pierre Barouh's Saravah label in France the records that introduced him to a wider audience. Offering an early glimpse of his unique approach to music, THE INCREDIBLE NANÁ features the first recorded version of "Concerto pra Mae Bio", a composition Naná redid for his ground-breaking album Africadeus, which effectively appointed him as the world's most skilled master of the berimbau, the single-stringed Brazilian instrument intrinsically linked to the Capoeira tradition.

A brief set of concerts in Buenos Aires in 1971 with saxophonist Gato Barbieri, whose band he had just joined, would result in this one-off studio session with Argentinian guitarist Agustín Pereyra Lucena. Although Naná was already a respected musician back in Brazil as a member of Milton Nascimento's band and for his participation in numerous albums of the era (often uncredited, as in the third album by tropicalist psych-heads Os Mutantes), it is here that Naná was given the first chance to truly display what music meant for him, and what a berimbau could do.
The vertiginous chain of feats that followed the recording of this album include several Grammy awards, a string of albums for the leading contemporary music label ECM, work with Don Cherry, Pat Metheny, Egberto Gismonti, Caetano Veloso and too many other top-class musicians to be listed here, several original soundtracks as well as being elected best percussionist by the critics poll of the prestigious jazz magazine Down Beat for seven consecutive years.

Agustín Pereyra Lucena, then a young musician who had just released his debut album and received praise by the great Vinicius de Moraes, would pursue a life-long career in search of the perfect chord and became the de facto ambassador of Brazilian music in Argentina. Despite having several excellent albums under his belt, he rarely played outside of Argentina and therefore remained relatively unknown to the wider public, but his skills didn't go unnoticed to visiting Brazilian musicians like Dori Caymmi, Toquinho or Ed Motta, some of whom he befriended or shared a stage with.

The recording of this spontaneous, one-off affair remains a witness of what this relationship between two gifted musicians could have yielded had it lasted a bit longer.

Number 81 is our Brazil.45 series sees further digging into the magical world of Jorge Ben’s lesser-explored 1980’s productions. ‘Ma Ma Ma Ma Ma (A Lingua Dos Anjos)’ is taken from his ‘Al Al , Como Vai?’ album from 1980, which is arranged, produced, and features keys by the don, Lincoln Olivetti. The song contains trippy lyrics singing about flying saucers and angels.

‘Dona Culpa’ finds Jorge featuring on a cool mid-tempo groove track taken from Cauby Peixoto’s ‘Cauby! Cauby!’ album (also from 1980). Singer Cauby Peixoto had a long and stellar career, recording and releasing music from the mid-1950’s all the way up until his passing in 2016.

Mawuli Decker - Lololi-Lomko

"Matasuna Records" has found another musical treat from the African continent for its latest release - a song by the Ghanaian musician "Mawuli Decker". It was released in 1983 on the rare and sought-after album "Ayo Special" and is available for the first time as a 7inch vinyl single, which is supplemented by an edit from "Renegades Of Jazz". The esteemed London label "Kalita Records" was able to provide the audio material for new masters and is also acting as music publisher with the new "Kalita Music Publishing".

Mawuli Decker was born in 1949 in Ghana, where he also grew up. His musicality has been given to him from an early age, so that he not only attracts attention as a singer, but also plays drums, percussion and bongo. He played in various dance bands, which were very popular in Ghana especially from the middle of the last century onwards and made the Ghanaian highlife known beyond the borders. He has played in various dance bands such as New Planets, Sawaaba Sounds, The Tops, Caprice 73, The Volta Pioneers and others, which have performed in Ghana and other West African countries.
His first release was in 1975 with the band "Dzobi Soundz" on the Polydor label. Further releases of projects with his participation followed, until 1983 when he recorded his album "Ayo Special" at "Otodi Studio" in Lome (Togo) with an illustrious group of musicians.
He is still deeply rooted in music and performs in West Africa and is still very active in recording.

On the A-side is the original version of the song "Lololi-Lomko", sung in the "EWE" language, which is spoken in the south of Ghana as well as the southern parts of Togo. "Lololi" means "There's Still More Love" and "Lomko" stands for "Please love me" - classical themes that have appeared in countless songs in music history. Although a certain catchiness of the track cannot be denied, it doesn't seem cheesy at any point. Mawuli, who also contributes the vocals, creates perfectly formed harmonies through his compositions and arrangements, which are especially apparent in the bassline, guitars & brass and of course the vocals.

This was certainly also the idea behind the edit of "Renegades of Jazz" on the B-side, which did not want to break up and alienate the organic composition. Listening closely reveals the approach: a steady tempo, a more powerful bassline and additional drums and percussions bring the song back directly to where it belongs: to the dancefloors of this world!

Enrique Rodriquez and The Negra Chiway Band - Fase Liminal

Powerful new spiritual jazz from Chile on Soul Jazz Records!

This album comes as a very limited one-off unique pressing of 1000-edition vinyl, limited editon CD and digital release.

Enrique Rodríguez and the Negra Chiway Band group have an instantly powerful and unique sound that is reminiscent of the ensembles of Sun Ra and his Arkestra as well as Horace Tapscott and his Pan-Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, one that channels the righteous spirits of Alice Coltrane, John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp and McCoy Tyner together with a stunning Latin rhythmical and new consciousness and percussive energy. Added to this are elements of the Samurai film soundtracks of Akira Kurosawa, Popol Vuh’s musical spirituality (especially their work with film director Werner Herzog), Tibetan Buddhism and over-blowing chants, that all combine to give a truly unique new sound.

Enrique Rodríguez is a composer, percussionist, keyboardist, and producer from Santiago, Chile, whose work shows many similarities with the music featured on Soul Jazz Records’ recent collection ‘Kaleidoscope - New Spirts Known and Unknown’, featuring new forward-looking jazz artists including Mathew Halsall, Theon Cross, Emma-Jean Thackray and Makaya McCraven.

Like all these artists, Rodríguez’s work is a progressive and experimental fusion of earlier influences that combine into a new and definitely 21st century ground-breaking sound that, on account of its South American setting, give the group its truly unique feeling. Hypnotic modal piano riffs, powerful brass and flutes, an army of Latin percussion instruments, and addictive vocal chants all combine in this powerful mix of radical 60s Afro-centric jazz, eastern spirituality and cosmology, and Latin American rhythmical movement.

ALFREDO LINARES Y SU SONORA - Yo Traigo Boogaloo

Long sought after by collectors, DJs and lovers of hard salsa and boogaloo alike, 'Yo Traigo Boogaloo' is now lovingly reissued in replica form with the original cover art, remastered from the studio tapes, reproducing that magical MAG studio sound for today's aficionados to enjoy like it was 1969 all over again. Alfredo Linares is a globetrotting pianist, composer, bandleader and producer from Peru with a long, prolific career in latin music. His long sought after by DJs and collectors of hard salsa and boogaloo alike, 'Yo Traigo Boogaloo' is now lovingly reissued in replica form with the original cover art, remastered from the studio tapes, reproducing that magical MAG studio sound for today's aficionados to enjoy like it was 1969 all over again. Details: Alfredito "Sabor" Linares is a globetrotting pianist, composer, bandleader and producer from Lima, Peru with a long, prolific career in hot Latin music spanning more than half a century. Though Linares has come to recent international fame through his work with William "Quantic" Holland, he was already quite popular and famous in his adopted countries of Colombia and Venezuela in the 1970s and 80s during the salsa boom. However, his career began in Lima, backing timbalero Ñico Estrada at age 17 in 1961, and Alfredito's first notable recording as a sideman was a few years later on the now legendary 'El Combo de Pepe' album for IEMPSA/Odeon. Subsequently Linares would advance his career by recording two fabulous records under his own capable leadership as Alfredo Linares Y Su Sonora at the end of the decade for the MAG label. These releases capitalized on recent developments in New York Latin music, namely Latin jazz, boogaloo, descarga (jam session) and what would later be marketed as "salsa" with roots in the Cuban guaguancó and guaracha genres. One can hear direct inspiration coming from Joe Cuba, Ricardo Ray, and Eddie Palmieri, especially on the first album, 'El Pito', and yet by the second record, there are plenty of original tunes as well. More importantly there is a 'swing' and assertiveness to the playing (and arrangements) that prove every bit as authentic, tough and danceable as their New York inspirations. As Linares himself recounts, "In that era, we fought against a generation that was half-blind, because the people who understood what we were doing were few. We had to fight hard for our space in Perú, that's where the swing comes from." That special 'swing' also emanated from Linares' ace backing band, which happened to be a talented stable of MAG studio musicians who all understood Cuban and jazz music: percussionists Mario Allison and Coco Lagos, bassist Joey di Roma, Kiko Fuentes and Carlos Muñoz on lead vocals and Melcochita on coro (vocal chorus). According to Linares, the studio band was "open-ended, some musicians came some days, others on other days_Nilo Espinoza on saxophone, Betico Salas and Tito Chicoma on trumpets. Otto de Rojas played piano, and so did Charlie Palomares, who played vibraphone. Another good musician was guitarist Carlos Hayre." Though the recordings were cut "live in the studio" and many were basically composed on the spot, the intrinsic strength and maturity of the performances on 'Yo Traigo Boogaloo' stand the test of time as one of Peru's most important contributions to tropical music across the decades, establishing Alfredito Linares as a master of the idiom and serving as a harbinger for great things to come for him in Colombia and Venezuela. Jorje Ben/Baby Consuelo - Waimea 55.000 / Curto De Véu E Grinalda 7"

Two giants of Brazilian music back-to-back!

Jorge Ben can do it all - vocalist, songwriter, musician, producer and to many their ‘all-round’ favourite Brazilian artist. Jorge has had an amazing career, involved in music from the early 60's through to the current day, writing countless classic songs for him and other artists.

This awesome samba-disco-funk joint 'Waimea 55.000’’ is a lesser-known production, taken off a 7” B-side released on Som Livre in 1978. This is a gem which needed to be dusted off and given the
wider audience it deserves.

Baby Consuelo with her distinctive voice is one of Mr Bongo’s favourite Brazilian singers. The only female founding member of the mythical group Os Novos Baianos, Baby is a real innovator andpioneer, changing her persona and musical styles over the years, but still staying unique.
Here we have Baby at the start in raw psychedelic hippy mode,
giving a powerful vocal delivery where she manages to sound simultaneously badass and lovable. This early song was released in 1970 on RGE records on a compacto 7” credited to Baby Consuelo and additionally featured on OsNovos Bahianos’s debut album 'É Ferro Na Boneca!’ in the same year (re-issued on Mr Bongo in 2019).

LACHINOS - AMERICA LACHINA

In a world governed by stereotypes, Lachinos break down the boundaries between people and gender. It is impossible to clearly distinguish the origin, roots and cultures that are specific to each of its members. An association that turns out to be as unexpected as it is effective on their first EP America Lachina, out on Goutte d’Or, a sub-label of french team Cracki Records.
America Lachina is also and above all an ode to Latin American music. One travels to the rhythms of merengue, cha cha cha, cumbia or even Brazilian surf, always with a musical commitment to rock accents.
