Though she had been performing professionally since the late 1920s, as a teenager in Harlem, during its Renaissance, the immortal Billie Holiday didn't play a single night on the European continent until 1954. It was in that year that the great journalist and musician Leonard Feather, and a Swedish promoter organized the Jazz Club U.S.A. tour, named after Feather's wildly popular radio program. Featuring Red Norvo, Sonny Clark, and more, the centerpiece of Jazz Club U.S.A. was, undoubtedly, Lady Day. Recorded at various dates across the tour, Lady Love shows Holiday still had it, despite the turmoil, and drug and alcohol abuse, her voice remained strong, a stunning document of one of America's greatest treasures on her first ever tour of Europe. Guy Clark's debut from 1975 is one of the all time classic country singer-songwriter records. By the time of its release the Texas native had been shopping his tunes in Nashville for a few years and the songs from Old No. 1 were already well aged and often covered. Regardless, though Clark considers himself more a songwriter than a recording artist, nobody holds a candle to these performances. From the rollicking Texas swing of opener "Rita Ballou" to the finger picked heartbreak of closer "Let Him Roll" there is not a stinker to be found. Max Roach's 1960 masterwork, We Insist!, is a suite based on the Civil Rights Movement, and involves variations on the theme of the struggle for African Americans to achieve equality in the United States, a struggle that is still all too relevant still. Roach began composing with lyricst Oscar Brown Jr. in 1959, with the initial intention of having the suite performed in 1963, on the 100th anniversary of The Emancipation Proclamation. Featuring the wonderful Abbey Lincoln on vocals, as well as Booker Little, Julian Priester, Coleman Hawkins, Olatunji, and more, We Insist! is a truly stunning album, one that knows no equal from that time or since, reissued on 180 gram LP with download code.

"Good Times" is the debut album by Chicago harpist and vocalist Shakey Jake (uncle to Magic Sam) which was released in 1960 on Bluesville. Recorded in New Jersey by Rudy Van Gelder with Brother Jack McDuff on organ and guitarist Bill Jennings rounding out the drummer less trio. Reissued on 180 gram vinyl on a tip on sleeve with a paper and poly lined inner sleeve.

The pride of Passaic, New Jersey, the girl group The Shirelles was formed in 1957 by four friends from high school. After some early singles with chart success, they released their debut album in 1961, Tonight's The Night. Blending pop with doo-wop and R&B sensibilities, and with songwriting from the classic team of Goffin/King, Tonight's The Night is notable for "Will You Love Me Tomorrow", the very first Billboard #1 hit pop single from an African-American girl group, making this a truly groundbreaking record. Essential girl-group pop from one of the genre's true innovators, reissued on 180 gram LP with download code and 2 bonus tracks.

Following up Tonight's The Night was a difficult thing to do for New Jersey girl-group The Shirelles, but they did it the very same year with great The Shirelles Sing To Trumpets And Strings. Featuring further songwriting from Luther Dixon - who had previously written for Elvis, and more, and wrote the great "16 Candles" by The Crests - The Shirelles Sing... includes his all-time classic "Mama Said" which marched to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1961. Lee Hazlewood spent a good part of the late 1960s traveling the globe, cutting records and inking business deals. A string of hits with Nancy Sinatra enabled Lee to build a mini media empire Lee Hazlewood Industries and afforded him nearly unlimited resources...for a time. By the end of the decade LHI Records had burned piles of cash, gone through a half dozen distributors and failed to achieve the kind of chart success Boots" had promised.

Fortunately for Lee there was a land where he was still on the top of the charts, a place where women flowed like Brannvin...Sweden was calling.

While on an LHI promotional tour in Stockholm, Lee crossed paths with Swedish director Torbjörn Axelman. I met Lee through my script girl, in Stockholm in 1969,' remembers Axelman. "We noticed we had very many similarities, interests, and the same backgrounds. It led to many productions during our 38 years of close partnership and friendship.' The partnership showed Lee the way forward and allowed him an easy exit strategy from the LHI house of cards that was crumbling in Los Angeles.

Light In The Attic records continues its Lee Hazlewood series with this expanded reissue of Cowboy in Sweden. Released as the last LHI LP, Cowboy in Sweden was a soundtrack to the 1970 cult classic film of the same name starring Lee Hazlewood. The film was a surreal psychedelic account of Lee's journey to his new homeland, while the soundtrack was a perfect compilation of Hazlewood's strongest songs recorded over a prolific globe trotting three year period. The production scope of the album was the most ambitious of his career, recorded in Paris, London, Los Angeles and Stockholm with a slew of talented session musicians, producers and arrangers.

Blues harmonica innovator Little Walter was a critically important creative force.

Between his brilliant, combustible musicality, equally incendiary temperament, penchant for hard living, and tragic death at 37, he exerted an influence so pervasive and profound that, much like his bandstand boss Muddy Waters, he has assumed an almost mythological stature

in blues hierarchy.



As the first musician ever to bring the microphone right up to the harp, cupped within his hands, Little Walter was revolutionary. Prior to that breakthrough, the microphone was almost never removed from its stand, it was static, an immobile object which the performer catered to, but Little Walter completely exploded that limitation.



The simple physical act alone was audacious, but Walter took it the full route, also experimenting with squeezing the most out of an amplifier, cranking it all the way up and adding distortion, introducing wild new sonic dimensions for the instrument. His development and use of these techniques were nothing short of revelatory and profoundly enhanced and expanded the entire genre s impact and range.

Muddy Waters changed everything. He proposed a modern blues reality so tangibly potent and loaded with soul deep appeal that it was like a portal to an undreamed of realm, and all who entered therein were made a gift of Muddy's singular philosophical rhythms and truth. As a ringmaster for rock & roll - a Godfather who not only facilitated but also participated by leading Chuck Berry to the recording studio, inspiring and touring with the Rolling Stones - he is completely unique all over again.

Chemistry. You either got it or you don't. When the five members of Royal Southern Brotherhood convened in February at Dockside Studios, Louisiana, there was magic in the air. Just seven days later, the acclaimed US soul-blues collective emerged triumphant with The Royal Gospel: the fourth album in their rocket-heeled rise and further proof of a lineup born to play together.



Like all the best groups, Royal Southern Brotherhood have evolved. Elvis, the record, was released in October 1956 and remained at US No.1 for five weeks. For Elvis, the man, an
incredible year was drawing to a close: he made his first album, saw his records become available all over Europe,
made his television debut, appeared in his first film, and celebrated his first US No.1 single. It seemed inconceivable
that things could get any better, or that the fan fever could grow even more hysterical. But with the release of this, his
second record, Elvis had proved beyond doubt that he was here to stay. And this was just the beginning...

Night Train serves both as a marvellous offering for James Brown completists, and, on another level, as a brilliant on-record
instrumental jukebox, full of booting saxes, guitar sounds that practically force you to get up and dance, and all propelled by a
beat that's spanned the years without ageing one little bit.
So there you have it... a great album that proves what James Brown and his friends were doing at the start of the '60s still
sounds amazingly fresh.

Featuring a sound described as "rockabilly from hell" and a strong passion for Americana, cars, guns, aeroplanes and broadcast evangelism, the group released the mini-album 'Good and Gone' on Big Beat Records. Its six songs which had been selected from eleven songs recorded in spring 1984 with producer Vic Maile during a session at Elephant Studios in Wapping, London. It included a version of Hank Williams' 'You're gonna change'. Upon its release, the EP entered the top twenty in the UK independent record chart, where it remained for six months.

Man is a Welsh rock band whose style are a mixture of West Coast psychedelic rock, progressive rock, guitar driven hard rock, blues and pub rock. Formed in 1968 as a reincarnation of Welsh rock harmony group The Bystanders, Man are renowned for the extended jams in their live performances.

Man was initially signed to Pye Records for whom they recorded their first two albums: Revelation, noted for the simulated orgasm on Erotica', which received a UK ban, and 2 Ozs Of Plastic (With A Hole In The Middle). 2 Ozs Of Plastic (With A Hole In The Middle) captured something of the group's live fire and their concert performances often followed pretty much along the lines of the track listing. While their first album had a strong British feel, the follow up was nicely spiced with touches reminiscent of several American west coast bands such as Quicksilver Messenger Service and Frank Zappa's Mothers Of Invention.

The album cover was intended to be impossible to look at. An optically unstable geometric pattern was chosen and a clashing contrast of colours applied. The band each had their faces painted a different unnatural colour and the resulting photographs were distributed around the pattern. Lettering was outlined in 'Yellow Submarine' rainbows.

My Way: The Hits is a posthumous compilation album with music by Dutch rock and roll and blues artist Herman Brood, released shortly after his suicide on 11 July 2001.

The album produced a number one single, the first of Brood's career: "My Way" reached number one on 18 August 2001. On the Dutch album chart, the album reached #5 on 20 October 2001, and stayed on the chart for 57 weeks. The album was certified gold.

This compilation is available on vinyl for the first time and includes all his biggest hits, "Saturday Night", "Never Be Clever", "Als Je Wint", "Sleepin' Bird" and many more.

Blind Owl Wilson was a truly great guitarist and vocalist whose deep well of psychedelic blues songs were buried amongst the catalogue of major label rockin' blues band Canned Heat. He served as the band's guitarist and would chip in a song here and there as a front man. A couple of those songs were huge hits in the 60s - "Going Up The Country" and "On The Road Again". Blind Owl's songs for Canned Heat stood in stark contrast to the bands blustery blues rock - his was a gentle and nuanced voice and the themes of his song were all about personal heartbreak, grasping for cosmic understanding, and ecological justice. Here we have an LP of Blind Owl's songs from Canned Heat's records - left to sit alone and take you somewhere unexpected. Blind Owl's personal quest can be heard throughout these songs. "Poor Moon' tells the tale of Alan's heartbreak as he watches the moon being misguidedly bombed by man, 'My time ain't long' confronts death, "Parthenogen in 3 Blind Owls' and 'Parthenogen Childs End' take you to the psychedelic limits, and, we have the hit tunes on here too. Co-release with Sutro Park records. A true psychedelic masterpiece!

These Billy Boy Arnold cuts are amongst the finest he issued. His 'spoken' delivery of lyrics coupled with his brilliant harmonica playing make his recordings both hard hitting and effortlessly lilting at the same time. These are all blues masterpieces and issued here with the original A/B sides.
