(Disclaimer: release notes refer to the combined CD double-album release of Vol. 3 and 4 on which all tracks appear together. These two volumes are released separately on vinyl format)

Get ready for two brand-spanking new chapters in Perfect Toy's high octane, Down & Wired series of garage-mod-soul nuggets because the label has once again persuaded the man responsible for Volumes 1 and 2 - crate digger par excellence 'Chan The Man' - to unearth even more gems from his record collection!

The goodness kicks off with The Revival's virtually unknown, but irresistible, blues-funk head nodder I Chose To Sing The Blues followed by Take 5+2's stank slice of fuzz-heavy rnb, Motherless Child, originally (not to mention bizarrely) released on an EP handed out as a election promo giveaway for a man who later became mayor of Bonn - Hans Daniels of Germany's Conservative party, the CDU. Elsewhere, Heather Black delivers a blisteringly fast version of Third Avenue Blues Band's Come And Get It while The Turks provide an equally scorching take on Hendrix's Fire. The covers (and the treats) continue with teenage band The Aftermath's heavy take on Junior Wells' Messing With The Kid and Hunger's Brian Auger-ish Mind Machine. Babe Wallace mixes up English and Yiddish lyrics on big band rhythm & blues monster Dizengoff and there's yet another cover (easily the best one you've never heard) of Allen Toussaint's New Orleans funk classic Get Out Of My Life Woman by the Fabulous Impacts. There's also room for The Inn Crowd's super-rare harmonica-drenched groover Run Clarence Run and Friends' My Land which sandwiches two minutes of organ-led craziness between its deceptively mellow intro and outro. Towards the end of this epic double set comes yet another Hendrix cover - 49th Blue Streak's funked-up, fuzzed-up Foxy Lady and there's an appropriate closer in the form of George Brigman's hypnotic Drifting.

This is a super-hot collection of vintage rarities (accompanied by detailed liner notes and never-before-seen photos of the artists!) imbued with all the glorious imperfections of the golden age of the analogue era that artists now often strive so hard to recreate. Little surprise then that these cuts should sound so fresh today.

Eddie Cochran - C'mon Everybody

It was a tragic waste of a life, but the influence Cochran imparted on those he'd played and toured with, like Joe Brown, Georgie Fame and Marty Wilde, would ensure he'd not be forgotten. And with acts as diverse as the Who, Sex Pistols and Rush reviving his songs in future years, it was certain he would not be forgotten. But who needs an excuse to enjoy Eddie Cochran's music These tracks, some well known and others less so, tie up the first half of his tragically brief but unbelievably influential career. Pull your blue jeans on and enjoy!

Prior to the Beat Boom of the 1960s, classic British rock & roll songs could be counted on the fingers of one hand - Johnny Kidd & the Pirates' Shakin' All Over, Cliff Richard's Move It, and... Brand New Cadillac by Vince Taylor.
Like so many young Londoners fascinated by skiffle and rock & roll, Vince took to hanging around Soho's 2I's coffee bar, waiting to be discovered. Together with his backing group the Playboys, Vince began to make an impact. But it was only posthumously that Vince Taylor achieved the fame which had eluded him in his lifetime. That was thanks to The Clash, and a young man, desperate for pop stardom, who remembered meeting Vince in London in 1966.

Iggy Pop & James Williamson - Kill City
  • 1: Kill City
  • 2: Sell Your Love
  • 3: Beyond The Law
  • 4: I Got Nothin
  • 5: Johanna
  • 6: Night Theme
  • 7: Night Theme (Reprise)
  • 8: Consolation Prizes
  • 9: No Sense Of Crime
  • 10: Lucky Monkeys
  • 11: Master Charge

Ltd edition of the original 1977 mixes on Starburst Vinyl. LP STARBURST COLOR VINYL. Kill City helped bridge Iggy Pop's musical career from the drug-fueled and blazing rock of the Stooges (Raw Power, etc.) to his artier (but just as influential and passionate) David Bowie-produced solo albums (The Idiot and Lust for Life). After the Stooges broke up for good in 1974, Iggy (who was depressed, suicidal, and addicted to hard drugs) checked himself into a mental hospital to straighten out. When he emerged sober, Iggy hooked up with ex-Stooges guitarist James Williamson and began collaborating on demos. The duo tried to land a record contract on the strength of the compositions, but failed to do so. Although it's not as jaw-dropping as the releases listed above, Kill City certainly has its moments. And surprisingly, the songs sound more like laid-back Stones rockers than what the duo was known for at the time (which was barely containable near-heavy metal). There are a couple of Stooges leftovers ("Johanna" and "I Got Nothin") which lack the bite of the originals, but make up for it in Iggy's heartfelt vocals. The title track opens the album, with the lyrics painting a picture of a desperate and dangerous metropolis, and musically is the closest to the classic Stooges sound. Iggy and James' admiration of Jagger and Richards shows on the tracks "Sell Your Love," "Lucky Monkeys," and the instrumental "Night Theme." Also, synthesizers and keyboards are featured on "Master Charge," signaling the new direction Iggy would soon embark on. Also included are informative liner notes which do a good job of showing where Iggy's head was at during his mid-'70s, refocusing period. An interesting release, worthy of belonging in any Stooges/Iggy fan's collection.

The world is mourning the loss of rock and roll pioneer Chuck Berry. The iconic guitarist, singer and songwriter passed away Saturday at his home at the age of 90.

His impact on popular music cannot be underestimated. John Lennon once commented: If you tried to give rock- and-roll another name, you might call it 'Chuck Berry,''. Berry refined and developed rhythm and blues into the major elements that made rock and roll distinctive. Writing clever lyrics that focused on teen life and consumerism and developing a signature style that included guitar solos and showmanship, Berry was a major influence on subsequent rock music.
One Dozen Berrys' was the second studio album by Berry, released in 1958. Rockin' at the Hops' was his fourth studio album, released in 1960. Its opening track, Bye Bye Johnny', is a sequel to Berry's earlier hit, Johnny B. Goode'. New Juke Box Hits', his fifth studio album, was released in 1961. It was recorded and released while Berry was in the midst of legal difficulties, which led to his imprisonment in 1962. Also presented here are several bonus tracks, including Back in the U.S.A.', a top 40 hit in 1959.

With the eventual rise of bands such as Dara Puspita and an overall excitement and impatience to form a band, the Asian continent stirred with the sound of rock and roll thanks to the arrival of The Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Assisted by Rediffusion and various other British colonial networks, the sound and the fury were being absorbed by a new generation. Where else will you hear a Mandarin Nancy Sinatra chewing on Sugar Town Or an indescribably baffling masterpiece of Chinese Bubble-gum Toss away your potential pop prejudice and absorb the hidden treasures of life in an esteemed selection of forgotten 45s from the Far East. Past and Present presents an Oriental twist on pop with professionally re-mastered original audio, expanded liners and a plethora of rare archival photos.

For more than 20 year Eblis Alvarez (Meridian Brothers), Mario Galeano (Frente Cumbiero, Ondatropica) and Pedro Ojeda (Romperayo, Sidestepper) have been exposed to latinamerican tropical types of music that for many years (and still these days) have been relegated to the last place of good taste. Vallenato, peruvian chicha, colombian raspa, champeta, some african sounds and cumbia in its different genres (sabanera, rabajada, sonidera) make part of the new style that Los Piranas expose in the agitated Colombian music scene.

Tony Sheridan may be famous for only one thing at this point in time: performing with The Beatles in their earliest incarnation. But, at the time, in 1961-1962, he was a top beat performer and a charismatic singer in his own right. Featuring several tracks backed by The Beatles, My Bonnie is classic early-60s European beat and early rock and roll. Essential for any Beatles collector and any fan of early-60s Euro-beat. Reissued on 180 gram LP with download card and five bonus tracks.

Roy Wood is an English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He was particularly successful in the 60s and 70s as member and co-founder of The Move, Electric Light Orchestra and Wizzard. As a songwriter, he contributed a number of hits to the repertoire of these bands.

The BBC has described Wood as being responsible for some of the most memorable sounds of the Seventies' and credited as playing a major role in the Glam Rock, Psychedelic and Prog Rock movements'. In 2008, Wood was awarded an honorary doctorate for his contribution to rock and pop by the University of Derby. In 2015, his long and eclectic career was recognized with the Outer Limits' award at the Progressive Music Awards in London. Wood will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 as a member of Electric Light Orchestra.

Boulders is the first solo album by Roy Wood. Apart from harmonium on track one played by John Kurlander, all the instruments (including guitars, cello, saxophones, recorders) and voices were recorded by Wood, who also wrote, arranged, and produced the entire album, and did a self-portrait for the front cover. Originally issued on Harvest, the album peaked at No. 15 in the UK Albums Chart.
Two singles were taken from the album, When Gran'ma Plays the Banjo' and Dear Elaine'. The latter reached No. 18 in the UK Singles Chart.

Roy Orbison was a rare solo hitmaker in the group-dominated Sixties, using the experience gained following in the footsteps of Elvis at Sun Records to register UK and US chart-toppers. His music will surely be enjoyed for many years to come, and this fantastic collection, covering the story from Sun to his Sixties heyday, gives you many good reasons why. Enjoy this excellent 2LP set including "Only The Lonely", "Running Scared", "Crying" and many more.

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band - Live At The Main Point, Pennsylvania, April 1975 - Fm Broadcast

The year 1975 found Bruce Springsteen on the verge of super-stardom. August of that year would see the release of Born To Run, which vaulted him into the stratosphere, but before that he was still a young man from New Jersey with a couple critically acclaimed but poorly selling albums under his belt. That said, his star was rising on the live circuit, where he and his group, The E Street Band, were becoming known for epic and electric shows. Few shows from that year are more legendary than the April performance at Bryn Mawr, PA's The Main Point. Covering material from earlier in his career, as well as several tracks from Born To Run which would not be released for several months, this is Bruce at the top of his game, an unparalleled glimpse into that mythical era of one of America's all-time greatest songwriters and live performers.
