The whole EP is furnished with the sinister and commanding vocals of Sophie du Palais, also known as 'Vrouwe Fataal,' creating an infectious vortex of panic and scare to abort your dreams. Even if you don't know her name - you will know her voice. It's 'Melbourne's High Priestess Of Soul' Kylie Auldist's unmistakable vocals on the 2016 global dance hit 'This Girl' by Kungs vs Cookin' on 3 Burners - the track that not only topped almost every pop chart across the planet, featured in many TV shows, adverts and films and social media memes, and has achieved over 1 billion streams & climbing. But of course, that's far from the whole story. Antonin Appaix - Aquaplaning EP

Antonin Appaix's project draws its inspiration from the depths of the waves, under the Latin sun. Passionate about fishing and diving, cradled in the Mediterranean culture, the aquatic universe has always been an integral part of his life. It was by chance in a Marseille cove that Antonin Appaix and Cracki Records met for the first time.

At the cinema university and then at the Beaux-Arts in Lyon, Cergy and Mexico City, Antonin tried out the caps of photographers, video artists, tried poetry, played rock and thought he was a mechanic. Already grew in him the nostalgia for the first baths, first kisses, the city and adolescence.

Graduated in 2016, he converted his plastic and literary research into a minimalist and romantic pop universe. For his first EP "Aquaplaning", composed between Paris and Marseille, he invites us to join him underwater, where he feels best.

Die Kölner Elektronik Band verwebt auf ihrem Album Voyage Voyage verschollen geglaubte Ebenen der Erinnerungen in ein vielschichtiges zugleich aber auch irre zugängliches Album zeitgenössischen Elektro Pops. Musik, die sich freimacht von Zwängen, von Zeitgeist und genau deshalb eine einzigartige Stellung einnimmt. Das Album besticht durch verträumte Leichtigkeit und umarmt gleichzeitig eine melancholische Grundstimmung. Voyage Voyage klingt voller spannender Sound Ideen – es zischt und rauscht und hallt und klappert – und ruht doch entspannt in sich und vor allem aber jagt es nicht irgendeinem flüchtigen Moment hinterher, dieses Album steht ganz für sich, für COMAs leicht entrückten Pop voller Möglichkeiten. COMA sind typische Kinder der aufregenden Nullerjahre, Marius und Georg wurden musikalisch aufgezogen mit 80er-Jahre Zuckerwatte, haben dann in zerrissenen Jeans und Indie-Rock der 90er die Adoleszenz durchlebt, wurden erst von den Prinzen der Kölner Clubwelt wachgeküsst und erspielten sich mit diversen EPs und zwei Alben auf Kompakt viel internationales Lob und Anerkennung. Der britische Guardian attestierte ihnen begeistert “playfulness, prettiness and the kind of intense pleasure that results from perfectly interwoven melodies“.

Es ist genau diese vielgelobte unkonventionelle und spielerische Herangehensweise, die sie wohl auch dazu inspirierte, selbst noch während einer Clubnacht im Berghain ihre Gitarre auszupacken. Es liegt also alles in ihrer DNA, doch noch nie waren COMA-Tracks so persönlich und von Vocals und Texten geprägt.

Washed Out is Atlanta-based producer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Ernest Greene. Over three enchanting, critically-lauded albums and an EP, his music has proved both transportive and visual, each release inviting listeners into immersive, self-contained universes. With Purple Noon, his fourth album, and his return to Sub Pop, he delivers the most accessible Washed Out creation to date. Life of Leisure, Washed Out's 2009 debut EP, set the bar for the Chillwave era, shimmering in a warm haze of off-the-cuff Polaroids and pre-IG filters. Within and Without, his 2011 full-length debut on Sub Pop, morphed into nocturnal, icy synth-pop and embraced provocative imagery. 2013's Paracosm was Greene's take on psychedelia, with a full live band and kaleidoscopic light show, and saw him playing to the largest audiences of his career. The sample-heavy Mister Mellow (2017, Stone's Throw) delivered a 360 audio/visual experience, with cut-n-paste and hand-drawn animation to match the hip-hop influences throughout the album. With each release, Greene has approached his evolving project with meticulous detail and a steadfast vision. For Purple Noon, Greene again wrote, recorded, and produced the entirety of the album, with mixing handled by frequent collaborator Ben H. Allen (Paracosm, Within and Without). Production of the album followed a brief stint of writing for other artists (most notably Sudan Archives) which enabled Greene to explore genres like R&B and modern pop. These brighter, more robust sounds made their way into the songs of Purple Noon and mark a new chapter for Greene as a producer and songwriter. The vocals are front and center, tempos are slower, beats bolder, and there's a more comprehensive depth of dynamics. One can hear the luxuriousness of Sade, the sonic bombast of Phil Collins, and the lush atmosphere of the great Balearic beat classics. Mediterranean coastlines inspired Purple Noon, and Greene pays tribute to the region's distinct island culture - all rugged elegance and old-world charm - and uses it as a backdrop to tell stories of passion, love, and loss (Purple Noon's title comes from the 1960 film directed by Rene Clement and based on the novel The Talented Mister Ripley by Patricia Highsmith). Much like romantic Hollywood epics, the melodrama throughout is strong: a serendipitous first meeting in "Too Late"; a passionate love affair in "Paralyzed"; disintegration of a relationship in "Time to Walk Away"; a reunion with a lost love in "Game of Chance." Purple Noon adds a layer of emotional intensity to the escapism of Washed Out's oeuvre, taking the music to dazzling new heights.

Blood in the Grass, an EP of electro tinged new wave from Hamburg-based producer Johannes Haas, aka L.F.T. (Love, Fist, Tears), the title of which takes inspiration from a 1966 tapestry work by the late Swedish-Norwegian textile artist Hannah Ryggen (1894-1970).

Prompted by Colombi and Haas meeting on the dancefloor of Golden Pudel, the eight tracks run the gamut of darkwave and punk sounds, with Haas utilising Korg MS20 and Roland SH101 synthesisers to meld mutant acid with slamming synth lines, ear-worm melodies and opaque lyrics that are left open to interpretation. The new wave aesthetic he draws inspiration from is most evident on tracks Die Geldsmachine, No Covenent and the glistening Chloe-Rose​,​ and with its howling guitar riffs and driving energy geared for late nights, Manon is a rough and ready punk anthem and a tribute to Haas’ “gang” of favourite people in Hamburg.

A vibrant electronic fusion of lounge, jazz, and disco is maybe not the first (or fifth) thing you would expect to hear from one of the world’s most renowned modern composers and ambient tape loop pioneers, but upon first listen, it makes so much sense that one wonders why it didn’t happen sooner.

After years of producing and mentoring slews of young artists in 1990s Williamsburg, Brooklyn, William Basinski moved to Los Angeles. There he hired a young studio assistant, Preston Wendel, who eventually introduced his own works to the curious composer. That spawned a creative partnership that inspired Wendel to persuade Basinski to haul out his saxophone. Five years later, SPARKLE DIVISION has arrived with their enchanting debut album, To Feel Embraced.

Produced by SPARKLE DIVISION at Basinski’s Musex International in Los Angeles, the duo were joined by a few notable friends: Mrs. Leonora Russo (who Basinski affectionately calls “the true Sicilian Sparkle Division, my Brooklyn Mom, the Queen of Williamsburg”) offers her sparkling voice to “Queenie Got Her Blues”; fabled free-jazz icon and genuine bodhisattva, the late Henry Grimes, contributed upright bass and violin to the aptly-named “Oh Henry!” (“Lotta babies gonna be born from this one,” Henry and Margaret Davis Grimes playfully declared); and London vocalist Xeli Grana offers her ethereal voice to the album’s meditative title track.

Robin, among others, also scored 'Virgin Queen's Fatal Affair' (Best Specialist Factual - Royal Television Society Awards), the features 'Queens of Syria' (Black Pearl Award - Abu Dhabi Film Festival), 'Retreat' (Premiere at Screenplay Shetland Festival, curated by UK film critic Mark Kermode), 'Oh No, Not Rudy Again!' (Cannes film festival 2015), and 'Strings' (British Independent Film Award).""Spectral"" is the first solo album of Robin Schlochtermeier. It's a set of slow, sometimes ambient pieces that function like distant echoes of childlike experiences of the natural and material world."My inspiration for the album is tied up in having become a father recently," says composer Robin Schlochtermeier. "As my daughter's consciousness was forming I would often catch an amazed look on her face or notice that she stopped and stared at some small detail in her environment. This would frequently evoke a profound sense of mystery in me, and I grew curious as to what was causing her to react in such ways."The pieces on Spectral are attempts to capture some of this mysterious, nebulous spirit of bafflement and wonderment. "Seeing the world through my daughter's eyes reminded me of the experiences the world can produce in our minds when we are open, receptive and boundary-less", says Robin. "I started to wonder if I was half-remembering my own experiences of the world from when I hadn't yet been trained to carve it up into neat concepts." The result are pieces like "Lapping", which in its slow, circular motion points to a rhythm of life unaffected by expectations of busyness, while rooted in a sense of grandeur and timeless wonder.Spectral was recorded using a British upright piano from the 1950s with original worn strings, which are occasionally dampened with poster putty. The other elements are all forms of electronics and sound design, including a software synth (Retrologue) and custom programmed sounds generated from the composer's bank of original sample recordings.One of the aims for the album was to explore a limited palette of sounds. Some pieces only contain 3 layers of sound, while some are a little more complex. "The intention was to create space and openness in the arrangements", according to Robin. "This principle also led me to explore longer and longer forms. As I went on I felt increasingly drawn to longer emotional arcs, resulting finally in Sonnenstaub.

It's a set of slow, sometimes ambient pieces that function like distant echoes of childlike experiences of the natural and material world."My inspiration for the album is tied up in having become a father recently," says composer Robin Schlochtermeier. "As my daughter's consciousness was forming I would often catch an amazed look on her face or notice that she stopped and stared at some small detail in her environment. This would frequently evoke a profound sense of mystery in me, and I grew curious as to what was causing her to react in such ways."The pieces on Spectral are attempts to capture some of this mysterious, nebulous spirit of bafflement and wonderment. "Seeing the world through my daughter's eyes reminded me of the experiences the world can produce in our minds when we are open, receptive and boundary-less", says Robin. "I started to wonder if I was half-remembering my own experiences of the world from when I hadn't yet been trained to carve it up into neat concepts." The result are pieces like "Lapping", which in its slow, circular motion points to a rhythm of life unaffected by expectations of busyness, while rooted in a sense of grandeur and timeless wonder.Spectral was recorded using a British upright piano from the 1950s with original worn strings, which are occasionally dampened with poster putty. The other elements are all forms of electronics and sound design, including a software synth (Retrologue) and custom programmed sounds generated from the composer's bank of original sample recordings.One of the aims for the album was to explore a limited palette of sounds. Some pieces only contain 3 layers of sound, while some are a little more complex. "The intention was to create space and openness in the arrangements", according to Robin. "This principle also led me to explore longer and longer forms. As I went on I felt increasingly drawn to longer emotional arcs, resulting finally in Sonnenstaub.

Penya - Super Liminal Remixed

Penya came through the door of 2018 with a bang. Their debut LP Super Liminal had been carefully guided by On the Corner having started the journey with a pair of conceptual cassette releases and remixes of a first single by Jose Marquez and DJ Khalab in 2016.

Super Liminal was tipped as one of the LPs of early 2018 not to miss. The album sold out and the band were soon taking their club ready percussive electronica to festivals around Europe. A prime slot at Worldwide Festival, Leysin led the band around Europe and the UK with highlight's including a support slot for Sons of Comet at the innovative Brainchild Festival. They are finishing the year with a slot at WorldwideFM's second birthday party before heading back into the studio.

Whilst the band hit the festival circuit, On the Corner friends and family got busy reworking the in demand 'Super Liminal'.

The remixes on this 12' pushes the Penya sound over the border of the club ready aesthetic and expands with a variety of energies from club culture across continents.

The A-side opens up with a stylish, uniquely individual and layered rework of Cham Bomb by Photay. Drama weaves elegantly with international flavours and a reference for future Afro-Cuban percussive electronica. This track ushers the listener into a private haven of adventure from the get go.

The pulsing, driven energy of Sarathy Korwar's fearsome drum rework is the closest of these reworks to the source material. The deviation is immediate however with a live feeling ripping, tripping and kicking through the foundation of 'Why So Angry'. This is a definite taste of what's to come with Sarathy a delicious addition to Penya's live work when they push later into the night.

Dengue Dengue Dengue cross more continents and bring their signature dreamy Amazonian-Berlin magic to cast spells over main stages and evoke dreamy emotive dynamics for adventurous floors with 'Search it Out'.

On the flip Indian producer, and Penya's label mate, Daisho straightens up 'Iyesa' and kick's it forward with a solid 4x4 for the tool box. Daisho is quickly becoming a safe pair of hands and is under the wing of On the Corner's A&R future vision.

The release is closed out by Al Zanders adding a UK House groove to the proceeding. The rework of Tribes swings into an electro bounce as the young producer stretches and loiters with a new adventure for the dancefloor.

Washed Out is Atlanta-based producer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Ernest Greene. Over three enchanting, critically-lauded albums and an EP, his music has proved both transportive and visual, each release inviting listeners into immersive, self-contained universes. With Purple Noon, his fourth album, and his return to Sub Pop, he delivers the most accessible Washed Out creation to date. Life of Leisure, Washed Out's 2009 debut EP, set the bar for the Chillwave era, shimmering in a warm haze of off-the-cuff Polaroids and pre-IG filters. Within and Without, his 2011 full-length debut on Sub Pop, morphed into nocturnal, icy synth-pop and embraced provocative imagery. 2013's Paracosm was Greene's take on psychedelia, with a full live band and kaleidoscopic light show, and saw him playing to the largest audiences of his career. The sample-heavy Mister Mellow (2017, Stone's Throw) delivered a 360 audio/visual experience, with cut-n-paste and hand-drawn animation to match the hip-hop influences throughout the album. With each release, Greene has approached his evolving project with meticulous detail and a steadfast vision. For Purple Noon, Greene again wrote, recorded, and produced the entirety of the album, with mixing handled by frequent collaborator Ben H. Allen (Paracosm, Within and Without). Production of the album followed a brief stint of writing for other artists (most notably Sudan Archives) which enabled Greene to explore genres like R&B and modern pop. These brighter, more robust sounds made their way into the songs of Purple Noon and mark a new chapter for Greene as a producer and songwriter. The vocals are front and center, tempos are slower, beats bolder, and there's a more comprehensive depth of dynamics. One can hear the luxuriousness of Sade, the sonic bombast of Phil Collins, and the lush atmosphere of the great Balearic beat classics. Mediterranean coastlines inspired Purple Noon, and Greene pays tribute to the region's distinct island culture - all rugged elegance and old-world charm - and uses it as a backdrop to tell stories of passion, love, and loss (Purple Noon's title comes from the 1960 film directed by Rene Clement and based on the novel The Talented Mister Ripley by Patricia Highsmith). Much like romantic Hollywood epics, the melodrama throughout is strong: a serendipitous first meeting in "Too Late"; a passionate love affair in "Paralyzed"; disintegration of a relationship in "Time to Walk Away"; a reunion with a lost love in "Game of Chance." Purple Noon adds a layer of emotional intensity to the escapism of Washed Out's oeuvre, taking the music to dazzling new heights.

Bernard Grancher - Troublante Tournure

The second of March's PY LPs is one the label has been eager to unleash for what seems an age. The killer new full length from ace experimental electronic musician Bernard Grancher. Coming to the attention of the label via his last record on ERR.REC; PY is mining much of this current wave of incredible French electronic music (as previous releases by Dialectric, Alexandre Bazin, (Arc en) Ogive and the mighty Cite Lumiere attest to) and is in hindsight, somewhat an extension of label head Dom's own record buying and digging habits just now (70s French synth LPs featuring heavily in his Utrecht fair baggage twice yearly!)

Grancher himself began his 'career' as a somewhat under the radar, host / director of 'mostly forbidden' radio programmes, where in Bernard's own words, he created 'incongruous sound collages, that gradually slip towards noisy or disturbing sounds intended to replace the music of others', within its broadcasts'. Then, armed with a large accumulation of 'machines I found at low prices, with an unknowing of quite how they function' he sought the help of friends Yan Hart-Lemonnier and Eric Lumbleau (from the hugely respected 'Mutant Sounds' blog, and his project Vas Deferens Organazation).

Then, having released what he describes as two 'rather talkative' LPs by taking again 'the concept of it's emissions: Hallucinatory slogans and Electro punk', Grancher, then released with ERR.REC, leading in turn to the PY full length here.

A fabulous LP hugely recommended to all kraut heads, experimental electronic sound collages, motorik grooves and minimal synth all figure strongly. To use one final quote from Grancher; 'Abandon any idea of listening comfort; this record leads you into a dangerous race that will be impossible to jump on'.

300 copies on vinyl only, released 2nd week of March.

“Racconti” – a concept album on cassette recounting those extended stays at our favorite overnight establishments in Berlin, Brescia, and beyond – takes Novo Line’s hauntingly disorienting yet danceable polyrhythms and three-dimensional harmonies through ‘Late Night’ (blue side) to ‘Early Morning’ (yellow side), echoing the sounds from within the dark cold walls of an industrial cellar to the outside garden terrace, as the morning’s blau stunde makes itself known. Birthed and bred between the three during the COVID-19 lockdown in their lingua franca of Italian, “Racconti” (translated best as “Stories” alluding to those brief life-excerpts compulsively shared on social media) recounts a prototypical night when we commit to entering that club full of friends, temptations, and an open schedule for the next day(s).

Nicolas Gaunin is the alter ego of Nicola Sanguin, part of the vibrant experimental music scene around Padua, Italy where he plays in outsider rock groups The Lay Llamas and Orange Car Crash. Nicolas Gaunin is his solo electronic project, a bright and playful cosmic mash-up that uses the rhythms of traditional African percussion groups and skews them slightly to create unsettling, off-kilter grooves. These drum machine experiments are laid over a teeming microscopic sound world of bird calls, insect chatter and weird jingles reminiscent of advertising earworms or video game soundtracks.
Noa Noa Noa takes its influences from music from around the world, and inspiration from high and low culture; from composer Gyorgy Ligeti to the cosmic sounds of Italian DJ Danielle Baldelli, from the experimental music of Moondog or Harry Partch to the playful sounds of Francis Bebey or the exotica of Martin Denny, from Iannis Xenakis to 8-bit video game music. Noa Noa Noa ends up sounding something like the imaginary soundtrack to the Nintendo Gameboy version of a lost William S. Burroughs novel.
Incredibly, most of the tracks on Noa Noa Noa were recorded live in one take with the express intention of creating music that is, in contrast to much of today's electronic music, bright, sunny, light-hearted and mischevious. The resulting album is both totally essential and also completely throwaway.
These tracks were originally released in 2018 by Artetetra Records (Italy) as Noa Noa (cassette & digital) and Danse de l'Oiseau (digital only). Hive Mind Records are proud to present Noa Noa Noa on vinyl for the first time."

Frost is a Brighton-based collaboration between French-Swedish sound artist Johanna Bramli (vocalist for Stereolab offshoot Imitation Electric Piano) and Fujiya & Miyagi's synth player and producer Steve Lewis.

For fans of the likes of Broadcast, Silver Apples and Kraftwerk together the duo create angular and electronic music by blending Motorik and hypnotic radiophonics into neatly wrapped often bilingual pop structures. On 28 September Frost release their debut album Matters via Lost Room Records. The duo has previously released two singles, the murkily glitchy 'Crackling on the Wire' (December 2016) which Edith Bowman made 'Record of the Week'with support also from Annie Mac (BBC Radio 1), Nemone and Gideon Coe (BBC 6 Music) and John Kennedy (Radio X). 'On this album we have managed to make beautiful things out of noises and repetitive patterns', explains Andy. 'The trouble is, we just cant help but write a catchy melody!'

The album takes its name from an 1891 painting by the Italian Giovani Segantini and contains everything from the Kraftwerkian 'Isotype' and 'Robot Man' to the blue eyed soul ballads of 'One More Time' and 'The View From Here' as well as more traditional OMD songs like 'Kiss Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Bang' and the synth heavy title track.

Described by The Quietus as not just one of the best synth bands ever - they are one of the best bands ever', OMD's influence has become ubiquitous. The xx, the Killers and LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy have cited OMD as an inspiration, and the likes of Future Islands and Chvrches show traces of OMD's DNA.

Rabii Harnoune & V.B.Kühl - Gnawa Electric Laune

‘GNAWA ELECTRIC LAUNE’ is the magical collaboration between Moroccan Gnawa-master (maâlem) Rabii Harnoune and Frankfurt electronic producer V.B.Kühl. Recorded at Achim Sauer’s 7V-Studio, collectively Rabii Harnoune & V.B. Kühl have produced an LP which represents entirely new territory, building a bridge from old to new, from Africa to Europe, and from to person to person. This melange of traditional North African Gnawa music and modern club sounds results in a fascinating debut, cross-cultural friction which is electric and otherworldly.

“Traveller” (out 19th March) is the first offering from the album, a tale that belongs to the repertoire of “L’Bouhala”, a story which roughly translates as symbolism for multiculturism in Gnawa culture. “Traveller” is a Gnawa-club fusion track that feels equally at home on the dancefloor as it does in its core spiritual home. “The traveller is a character in the culture of Gnawa” Rabii explains, “who is travelling from tribe to tribe, from village to city, looking for experiences and knowledge, then sharing it by singing about it”.

Gnawa music is among Morocco’s richest and oldest continuous traditions, dating back to pre-Islam. Rabii Harnoune joined the Kotab, a place where one can learn the teaching of the Quran, at the age of four. Growing up on a household diet of classical Arabic, Moroccan and Sufi music, Rabii was first introduced to Gnawa through his neighbour’s uncle who was a master in the genre. “Gnawa music was exclusively played by families whose parents came from Sub-Saharan or Central African tribes to Morocco in colonial times” Rabii explains, “it was rare to be able to listen to Gnawa music on radio, so I started to collect rare live recordings”. Rabii’s mastery at the Guembri, a three-string lute and Gnawa singing (a central aspect to the culture), would lead him to play world-class festivals in Essaouira, Fes, Marrakesh, and Casablanca – all spiritual centres for the genre.

V.B.Kühl realised his own musical vision and ambition when he inherited his first ghettoblaster (boombox) and bought a four-track recorder: “rhythm is deep in me, and although music is not my profession, the passion never stopped”. V.B.Kühl caught the attention of DJ Shadow with two stellar remixes, which would later lead to commissioned remixes by Tru Thoughts for acts such as Anchorsong and Lakuta. V.B.Kühl and album co-producer Achim Sauer founded t&TT together, a DIY label that was used as a vehicle to release both artist solo projects.

V.B.Kuhl and Achim first met Rabii while performing live at a house party of mutual friends. Rabii’s wish to release Gnawa music into the world lead to the trio collaborating and releasing ‘GNAWA ELECTRIC LAUNE’, twelve songs enriched with deep vibes and unstoppable grooves, an astonishing global mix of tradition and innovation.

Supported by the likes of Pedo Knopp (Analog Africa), Tom Ravenscroft (BBC 6Music), Dom Servini (Soho Radio) and Moroccan stations such as Medi1 Radio, ChadaFM and Radio Aswat, Rabii Harnoune & V.B.Kühl continue the legacy of Jimi Hendrix, Robert Plant, Randy Weston and more recently Bonobo, Floating Points and James Holden – in bridging together two different worlds, of Gnawa and Western musicians.

Building from where he left off, Nicola continues to develop his exploration of global sounds and cultures, and his fascination for electronics, translating this knowledge into expressive sound pieces that marry earthy textures with electronic sounds. With his new album, the in-demand Ecuadorian producer broadens his horizons beyond South America exploring a rich palette of sounds the world over. On 'Siete' and 'Obsidiana', Hindu harmonies are present amongst raw percussion, which is a common factor throughout the album. 'Okami's colourful jazz-inflected vibraphone creates a woozy, alluring atmosphere that captures the rainy night it was recorded on (which can be heard in the takes) and the album closer 'Esu Enia' is rooted in the raw power of the African balafon, a piece made in collaboration with Portugal's Marcio Pinto.  Yet Nicola doesn't neglect the sounds of his home continent, something instantly apparent on album opener 'Arka', the Colombian cumbia rhythms of 'Hacia Delante' and the poetic 'Criançada', sung in Portuguese and owing much to the melodies and rhythms of Brazilian samba.
