Giorgio Records is an independent label whose purpose is the rediscovery of some Italo Disco tracks that have never been reprinted to present them to the new generations who love the genre. The Mad Work musical project with the song A Night Alone is one of those. Italo Disco gem of the mid-80s now available in vocal and instrumental version and enriched with Casionova Edit and Flemming Dalum Remix.

Ethel Beatty is an artist from New York who primarily worked as an actress in theatre, appearing in Broadway musicals. She appeared in “Dreamgirls”, “Sugar Hills”, “Bubbling Brown Sugar” and (with Gregory Hines) in “Eubie”. Her most significant recording is this double header with writer/producer and master of the vibes Roy Ayers on Uno Melodic Records. While both songs have been reenissued on 7” and compilations over the years, it is still the 12” people that people want. Rare original copies have sold for £500. “It’s Your Love” is co-written by another soul jazz icon, Dee Dee Bridgewater, both tracks having that Roy Ayers vibe that makes this record extremely sought after by rare groove fans. Both tracks continue to be endlessly sampled on the hip hop and r&b scenes

Soul Jazz Records' new Nigeria Soul Fever is their first release to explore the vast wealth of Nigerian music recorded in the 1970s. The new album comes with introductory sleeve-notes by Bill Brewster (author of Last Night A DJ Saved My Life).
Packed-full with Afro-Funk, Disco and Boogie all from Nigeria, this triple album/double CD set brings together a stunning collection of diverse West African sounds. Whilst a small handful of the artists featured (Joni Haastrup, Tee Mac, Christy Essien) have seen the light of day outside Africa, this is essentially a collection of killer tracks by an array of artists completely unknown outside of Nigeria. Artists such as Don Bruce & The Angels, Akin Richards & The Executives, Angela Starr, Jimmy Sherry & The Music Agents. It's no surprise that these records are extremely rare and expensive to buy individually so this album will save you going broke trying to find them.
These recordings were made at a time when Nigeria's trade restrictions banned imported records. Whilst new musical trends (such as American soul, funk, disco etc) entered and influenced the country, the local music scene remained just that - local. Consequently, these recordings remain practically unknown to anyone outside of the country.
Nigeria Soul Fever is released as triple-album vinyl + download, double-CD digi-pack and digital download. This album follows on from Soul Jazz Records' 1960s collection Nigeria Freedom Sounds, released last month, and will be followed by the reissue of the incredibly rare and groovy Nigerian 1980 disco boogie funk album Tee Mac's Night Illusion.

Recorded in 2019, the EP marries ambient, dub, and house influences to create an enticing body of mid-tempo magic. Using limited hardware 505, Juno 6, D50, and a Space Echo the four-tracker bears a hazy vibe throughout and pairs simple drum programming with sun-kissed synths and hypnotic bass lines. Quattrovalvole is the future/past/disco/drive project designed by Joone and Miss Zagato. Four on the floor Italo-disco, glossy 80s new wave pick us up in this afterdark lifestyle EP. The title track ‘Into the Night’ is a curb crawler’s seduction. Dedicated to the leather hand-notated black book, our dial up lover calls with arpeggiators demanding, then teasing like feathers over the phone. Big chords push us to drive fast, ready for what we long for.

B-side ‘Too Many Lights’ squeezes us, just what we need when broken glass is swept up from the disco floor. Tame drums and retro claps dictate, as the chords are stargazing with Miss Zagato’s vocals. They preside over the party, with potions of bliss and intoxication, we are invited intimately into this dream life.

Joone’s ‘Into The Night’ remix takes us into the future, driving at the wheel of an alcantara suede upgraded Ferrari 308 Vetroresina. The layers of well-informed 80s synth wave sends us into another dimension.

A lost UK boogie gem from 1982 / Brit Funk era, recorded by singer Tony Crockett and Ralph Lewars' band "Pastiche" !

All in their early to mid 20's and born in London of Caribbean descent. The group were short lived, working on material for just a few years with the "Queen of Hearts" 12-inch being their only release. The track immediately demands the listener's attention with it's jazz piano, thumping drums, heavy bass, guitar licks and laced with funky flute, synth stabs, spacey sound effects, then dropping into soulful silky vocals and slinky rap - bringing together this killer boogie groove. Now finely re-issued for the first time by Diggers Dozen, giving this incredible rare record a more deserved chance to be heard and loved!

'90% of Me Is You' is widely known and loved, oft sampled and searched for high and low by soul aficionados and music lovers across the globe.

Vanessa Kendrick's take is a breathier, sweeter affair. A ridiculously rare 45 to obtain and boasting a $500+ price tag too. Recorded a year before Gwen McCrae's and arguably the original version, hence it's top billing spot on the A-side. Obviously, Gwen McCrae's version is more widely known, and it is astoundingly good. Her sultry and yearning vocals complementing the lush arrangement and tough backbeat drums in a different way. Obviously both versions bring something to the table in their own respective ways, with our 2 fabulous vocalists channelling different feelings and different moods, but they are both simply amazing and worthy of a place in any self-respecting music lovers stash. Flawless.

Chicago veterans Rahaan and DJ Emanuel have teamed up for a remix project for new label “Yams n Rekkids.” Reworking this collection of classics, the pair brings a reimagined take on disco era dance floor staples with Rahaan’s trademark minimalism and punch. In 2021, these mixes shine a light on much of what was missing over four decades ago.

Side A side contains a session remix of “Burnin’ Up,” a UK dance-pop crossover from seminal vogue performers, Imagination. With stems derived from a combination of the original 1981 mix and 1983’s Night Dubbing album remix, “Up In Flames” is a combination remix of a remix bringing to light a different side of Leee John and company’s original concept.

Side A also includes 1976 Motown disco classic “Love Hangover,” by Diana Ross. Only this time it’s not actually Diana on the track! Expertly crafted, DJs Rahaan and Emanuel’s “The Cure” excerpts Diana while bringing to the forefront a mysterious background vocalist to helm the lead. The result is pure dance floor magic.

Across the entirety of Side B is a dubbed out 1978 groove from female P-funk phenomenons Parlet. Originally known as “Pleasure Principle,” the “Lucky Starships” remix remains close to the integrity of the original composition, while bringing to light that which has been buried in the original mixes.

Remixes From The Dungeon is the second project from DJs Rahaan and Emmanuel and the first of many for nascent label Yams n Rekkids. Primed for the dance floor, these songs bring a Chicago take on dance music history,

Washington collective, The 3 Pieces, privately-pressed Iwishcan William on their own DL Records in 1982. The 12 has Discogs, for one, confused. Is it soul, rap, jazz, go-go, funk, electro, or educational? By nature of its birthplace and date of birth, it`s all of those.

Synths shimmer in harp-like glissando. The bass grumbles, rumbles, machine-made. The beat pops and locks. The whole thing grooving and exuding positivity. One part the cosmic funk of say Cloud One`s Patty Duke. Another, the balearic chug of Will Powers` Adventures In Success. Like Brother D it looks to “agitate, educate, and organize”, and stirs in the sentiments of Razzy`s I Hate Hate. Imagine if the Last Poets jammed with sister Sarah Webster Fabio. Keys parp like car horns, a real trumpet blows a Don Cherry solo, but the track really revolves around its sweet Sesame Street call-and-response chorus:

“I wish love. I can love. I will love. I am love.”

Swiss gentleman DJ and Phantom Island resident, Lexx, produces a killer remix - smoothing out the OG`s jerky edges, upping its sophistication. The result is a mind-blowing, psychedelic, almost ambient, Larry Levan-like, Paradise Garage dub. Where fragments of song fly at you from four corners. Trippily pan from left to right. The horn blasts now paying tribute to King Tubby`s Hi-Fi. François Kevorkian going bang!

After one and a half years of extensive research we are exhausted but ecstatic to present to our fans and critics the third volume in the "Can You Feel It?" compilation series. This time our journey leads us through various musical styles, originating from countries as diverse as Barbados, Guyana, Germany, and the US. But the one quality these tunes all share is that they, once again, will make you get up, get down, and get ready for some more highly underrated MODERN SOUL, DISCO and BOOGIE!

SIDE A: Compton Hodge, originally from Georgetown, Guyana, South America, recorded his self-released debut 45 "I Wanna Dance" in 1978. Some 2500 miles up north in New York, Kip Carmen, of Montauk Indian descent, put out "Stampede" two years later. Right next to the Canadian border in Detroit, Michigan, the Vernon brothers were doing their thing as Monofide in 1981. Just like the latter two records, original copies of H. Andrews & Company's 45 are super easy to find. Alhough they may be easy to find, it is still up to us to elevate them to 'Tramp Records' status, therefore these three quality cuts have made their way onto our CYFI 3.

SIDE B: Recorded one year prior to their never-released "A Distant Star" album, Teakwood's "Can You Dig It?" has developed into a certified Rare Groove classic. The contribution of Parnassus is quite obscure as is "Take The 'A' Train" by Hot Cakes while Third Stream is best known for being featured on "Praise Poems 2".

SIDE C: Our absolute favorite track on this album is by blues singer (James) Van Buren. Released on 45 in 1983, "Bronco Queen" with its positive and uplifting vibes will certainly put a smile on the face of all our listeners. "S'port City Rock" as well as "Turn It Out!" (previously unreleased!) are boogie-funk specimens at their finest, which, without doubt, will set any dance floor on fire! JAVA released their one and only 45 in 1983. "Say Wah Choo Mean" was the b-side which could explain why the song is still relatively unknown in boogie collector circles.

SIDE D: ...starts with a track from Barbados. Ivory's "Warm Love" is a wonderful composition just as is "So Trusting" by James Kelly Duhon (featured recently on Praise Poems 7 along with another great song). The band Nature from Germany delivers the feel-good love song "She's The One" which has a similar positive vibe as "My Woman, My Woman." The album finishes with the sexy "Feel-In" by Florida's The Unit III.

So there you have it, 17 obscure but brilliant Disco, Modern Soul & Boogie grooves of which all but one song have not been compiled anywhere else. We sincerely hope you enjoy our guided tour back into the late 1970s and 80s Disco era.

One year has passed since the man who fell to earth left us as a black star. David Bowie was one of Jean Claude Gavri's all-time heroes, JC pays tribute to the man in this special one off release of his classic Let's Dance remix, scheduled for release on Bowie's 70th birthday.

13 years ago, while Jerome Derradji was Djing in Liverpool, he was approached by a young lad named Andy Ash.

Andy handed Jerome a CD. It was so great that all the tunes ended up on “Carnival De L’Spirit”, his (now legendary) debut D12” for Stilove4music.

In the last decade, Andy has been releasing critically acclaimed House and Disco 12”s on some of the best labels on the planet such as On The Prowl, Delusions of Grandeur, Dessous, People Must Jam and many others.

Finally on March 29th, Andy will drop “Not At Home”, his first (official) full length on Still Music.

In more than a decade, Andy’s production has matured and evolved. It is now more sonically subtle,
superbly arranged and it seamlessly brings you straight to Detroit, Chicago and New York with the perfect blend of Disco, Garage, Acid and House.

“Not At Home” is a fantastic DLP with 6 songs that showcase how much Andy has mastered his craft while staying true to his roots. This is how real house music sounds like.

To top it off, Andy, who is also a fantastic painter, created his own artwork which perfectly matches his music. (Fans of Keith Haring will not be disappointed….)

With “Not At Home” Andy demonstrates incredible maturity, creativity and talent.

Leoparden dive into the summer with the warm, lovely space anthem "hoyt oppe" and the dancing synth-disco groove "Lopebass" on the B side.

After a long break (6 years!) mysterious ARTIFACT label is back with a new private pressing of juicy Bottin re-edits. Fist off, "Domenica" is an upbeat synthesizer disco number, complete with happy chanting and funny instrumental hooks. Second track "Cha Cha Cha" leans towards Italian new wave, with English, French and Spanish vocals. Maybe what Tom Tom Club could have sounded like - if they were from Milan. Side B starts with a thick, throbbing funk groove "Chico Train", topped by hilarious narration of a surreal train ride to, station to station. The closing number "Vital Grace" is a dark, sexy disco thing, with lush female vocals and over-the-top strings. As often in all things Bottin, this EP is all-Italian affair - Vinyl-only and very limited quantities as usual.

Cult Italian producer Jenny Rocco passed away in 2020, and in tribute to the work of this dearly departed artist, Best Record Italy is reissuing of one of his most sought after productions in "Evita (Avoid)" by Coco Bill. Produced by Rocco in 1983, the track comes in two versions, with the vocal cut setting romantic disco rhythms over pounding bass percolations while pianos morph between soul chords and starscape leads. Sequential synths race through the air and a crooner pleads into the night--the voice at once innocently sweet and darkly sensual--while elsewhere, tribal drums lead manic grooves and marimbas and palm-muted guitars color the air in equatorial hues. As for the instrumental version, the disco drums hit with a heavier and futuristic sheen, while angular bass synths slam beneath rimshots and ricocheting claps. Dreamspace pianos and fantasy synths are woven together into mysterious tapestries of exotica, while cosmic arps and crystalline chord cascades soar through the heavens.

Limited Vinyl - Edits for the Dancefloor!

Doug Payne is a graduate of LaGuardia High School of Music & Art (also known as FAME) in Manhattan NY, and Howard University in Washington D.C. He performed as a member of the Sister Sledge tour ("We are Family") has produced several recordings for quite a few East Coast acts and worked as the Music Director for The Dreamlovers, Eddie Holman, The Coasters and the house-band for the Atlantic City television show Chat-24.

We are happy to present two of his self released singles in full on one long 12". She Is On The Money is a A+ Boogie floor filler this previously unreleased in this full version massive 15 Mins long mix direct from master tape. On the flip we have Doug's first single "Holiday" which was previously 45 only and very hard to find, plus some other mixes of "She is On The Money" from a second tape, HEAT!

Good Block return with a second EP of original productions following the success of the '4 Corners EP’ released in 2019. Their sound continues to evolve and mutate, exploring the use of organic instruments, otherworldly samples and synth heavy themes. Delving into more sonically dense ideas, Good Block distil their wide-ranging musical taste down to its essence in the form of the 'Aquaculture EP'. Limited to 300 copies, with full cover artwork by the duo, and pressed on clear vinyl.

It is with great joy that we present the Mr Bongo edition of Marcos Valle's 1983 self-titled masterpiece. A pure vintage that features the ultimate Brazilian-boogie cult-classic ‘Estrelar’ and iconic 80s cover art that sees a gloriously sun-drenched Marcos dressed in a pink v-neck t-shirt surrounded by a generous selection of deadly-looking neon cocktails.

The album was produced by the legendary Lincoln Olivetti and Marcos' brother Paulo Sérgio Valle. It showcases a real who's who of Brazilian music at the time, with stellar performances from vocalists and musicians such as Rosana, Serginho Do Trombone, Robson Jorge and Oberdan Magalhães to name but a few. This was Marcos’ second album, after having moved back to Brazil from his time living in Los Angeles, and that US influence is evident through its prominent boogie, soul and funk sounds. It also features collaborations with the US singer-songwriter, composer, pianist, keyboardist, and record producer, Leon Ware, who co-penned three tracks including 'Estrelar'. To complete the album there are tracks such as 'Fogo Do Sol', which is pure AOR / Balaeric vibes, and tracks that are more MPB and pop-inspired, making a well-balanced track list for both home-listening pleasure and dancefloor business.

What could we do to give one of Marcos' most celebrated albums the treatment it deserved and produce the most definitive re-issue possible? The answer was to enlist the services of Miles Showell, Abbey Road Studios Mastering and lacquer-cutting engineer and all-around audio-magician, to cut a special half-speed master edition. Miles had previously worked his half-speed magic on our Arthur Verocai album re-issue, and once again we are totally blown away by the richness which Miles has brought out in his mastering technique. He has enhanced the listening experience and taken this wonderful album to another level.

To celebrate the release we have pressed up several vinyl versions; both standard master, and Miles' half-speed mastering editions on Black vinyl, alongside special limited edition Rose and Mint-Green coloured vinyl variants that were inspired by the audacious-looking cocktails on the cover - sheer 80s excess!
