Formed by drummer Bill Curtis in 1970 the Fatback Band signed to Perception Records who issued this debut album in America in 1972.

Recorded at Blue Rock Studio in New York, “Let’s Do It Again” featuring the soon to be patented Fatback sound, the album included originals like ‘Street Dance’ – that became a Billboard R&B hit in 1973 – ‘Free Form’, ‘Take A Ride (On The Soul Train)’ , ‘Give Me One More Chance’, ‘Goin’ To See My Baby’ and the title track. There were also cover versions of Jimmy Webb’s ‘Wichita Lineman’, David Gates ‘Baby I’m A Want You’ and the evergreen ‘Green Green Grass Of Home’.

“Let’s Do It Again” has been out of print for many years and Ace are delighted to be reissuing it on vinyl – with the full cooperation of Fatback founder Bill Curtis.

T.H.S (The Horne Section) is a brilliant Boogie band by Henry Horne, the writer of the song "Kinky Girl" by THE CREATIONS. T.H.S also performed the memorable classic tune LADY SHINE. "The Unreleased Album" is a compilation of previously unreleased boogie tracks, recorded during 1981-1984. For the first time issued as a CD on Boogie Times Records in 2010, first time on vinyl on Saph Records in 2016 (a sub-label of Boogie Times), reissued on vinyl in an extremely limited edition of 200 copies

Originally released as a promo album in blank sleeve (now impossible to find) on the band’s own Artemis label, it was subsequently issued in Belgium (under the Reverie – Get Up And Dance title) and Japan, both housed in picture sleeves.

Here’s the first ever reissue featuring new artwork (based on the band’s original idea for the intended but never finished US cover) and master tape sound.

The Pro-Teens are Melbourne’s most mysterious soul band. Between 2017 and 2018, the group recorded and released three crusty, left-field instrumental soul LPs: Tumultuous Times, Tactile Living and Thanks Team. The albums were self-produced, each put down to tape in DIY studios in Fitzroy over the space of one weekend per album, resulting in a charmingly rough sonic aesthetic. The LPs were pressed in small quantities on the group’s own Many Naps imprint and distributed to a small handful of local stores, where they were snapped up by the city’s funk & soul diggers for their crusty drum breaks and wonky grit.

Whilst the musicians that played on the three Pro-Teens records individually perform in some of Melbourne’s most popular and recognised groups (The Cactus Channel, Mildlife, The Seven Ups, The Teskey Brothers), each player was designated a pseudonym in the albums’ credits. This, along with the group having never played a live gig, gave the entire project almost complete anonymity.

On this release, Melbourne soul label College Of Knowledge Records compiles two of the Pro-Teens wonkiest and most brilliant tunes: Cold Vein (from Thanks Team) and Full Recovery (from Tumultuous Times).

What’s the point of running a label if you don’t open it up to homies? Leave exclusivity to posh people, inclusion is the word. Pordenone is a small town in the NorthEast of Italy at the heart of what EU calls “Corridor 5” which is the complex road network linking the italian peninsula with the Balkan regions and Austria. If you are heading east, most likely you’ll find yourself passing through this nice little town which happens to be my hometown aswell. Further than that, or most probably thanks to that, this area (Western Friuli region) has alway been prolific mother to a variety of musical activities. Beyond The Great Complotto and the Perseo’s Mods and Rockabillies
- the prime movers who put Pordenone on the italian map of the underground youth - from the late 70’s to the early 2000’s there has been quite a lot of other relevant subcultures. At the dawn of the 90’s, while the whole world went crazy for house music and
quite fast transformed it from a neighbourhood tale to a massive business, from the underground to uptown, becoming the soundtrack of jetset crazy nights with ultrapaid djs and door selections, in Pordenone a bunch of carachters kept doing their thing. They
were all about finding new barns where to party hard, putting together Frankenstein Sound Systems, mixin up original funk 12" with the house stuff comin from uk and the states, travelin in n out of the balkans with their record boxes, finding empty parking
lots at the sunrise to sit on the tarmac and let the party night fade away passing spliffs in between brothers. I will always remember once, during the usual quest for the best sunday morning parking lot, we stumbled on a group of hobby anglers going fishing
on the shores of the very same creek we had just partied hard at. An embrassed silence while crossing eyes, us with dark shades on and beats on background, them carryin’ fishing rods all dressed up in camo stuff. I still piss myself everythime those memories
spring to my mind. Tigers Den is the name of this posse and “North East Groove” is a production of today, with the flavour, the roughness, the colours and the sound of those times.

"As one of the biggest albums of the ‘80s, Foreign Affair showcased Tina Turner at her very best, further cementing her position as The Queen of Rock ‘n Roll. Celebrated in this 2LP white vinyl edition (33rpm), it includes the original album fully remastered for the first time.

Foreign Affair was Tina’s third studio album since her dramatic global resurgence, following the monumental success of Private Dancer (1984) and Break Every Rule (1986), as well as her lead role in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome in 1985. It went on to be a multi-platinum record across the world, including UK, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, Australia and many more. The biggest track to come from the album was the 80s anthem, “The Best.” The track continues to transcend generations, with one of the most recognisable choruses in music history. On top of The Best, the album is complimented by several Tina favourites, such as Steamy Windows, I Don’t Wanna Lose You and the title track Foreign Affair."

The group "Onyx" was formed in 1972 the members
were Aaron and Wendell Basey, Malvin Scott, and
Ronald Busby. Ronald left the group to pursue other
interests and was replaced by Cornelius Weekly.
We were reared in the San Francisco Bay Area,
specifically Oakland and Alameda, California. We grew
up singing in our School and Church Choirs. We all
began singing in quartets while we were teenagers in
Junior High School. Malvin sang in the group Morry
Williams and the Kids. They had a national hit
titled "Are You, My GirlFriend." The Basey brothers
sang with several groups in California, none with
any recording history. The Basey's were
the founding members of the soul group Natural Four. After
that, along with Malvin, they started the singing group "Onyx."

Later, the Basey Brothers started their own label NIA. The
name NIA was selected for, in the Swahili language, the
word NIA means purpose. The first song recorded by Onyx on the NIA label was "Break It Loose."
They subsequently recorded the songs "Time Take me Back,"
and "Keep on Waiting." Other songs were recorded but never released, "Help Me," "Give a Little Bit," and "Spellbound."

Welcome everyone to our 2nd previously unissued tv soundtrack, & what an honour to put out some of this amazing tv & film music history. Back around 1977/78 Stu Gardner and his group "The First Cousin Ensemble" who recorded the wonderful LP "For the cos of jazz" were signed to powerhouse label Capitol records. The group consisted of many members of Stu's close musical network. And often changed personnel. On the Two Block Hero soundtrack we had such heavyweights performing like James Gadson (Drums) , Rudolph Johnson (Saxophone) Ray Parker Jnr (Guitar) & Melvin 'Wah Wah" Watson . Stu was approached by the big wigs at Capital to lay down a soundtrack for a new TV movie that was in production called "The Two Block Hero" a tale of growing up too fast , not learning life's real lessons of family values and working hard to make a living. For some reason towards the end of the production the TV movie was scrapped and the subsequent music lay dormant on a reel at Stu's house for all this time. The music represents the feeling towards the end of the 1970's, creating lush layered production skills but keeping the raw energy of a film score.

It has been said that Richard 'Nappy' Mayers (1951-1993), the copiously gifted musician, composer, arranger, producer and singer began his earthly sojourn in an era inappropriate for the fullest exploitation of his creative potential.
From his teenage years he exhibited an innate impulse to craft melodies that were distinctive and enticing yet reflecting his attraction to the dominant influences of the period particularly American, Jamaican and homeland Trinidad and Tobago. Charismatic and a natural leader, Nappy's enduring passion for creating, performing and producing singularly progressive music so fired initial band members comprising relatives and close friends, that their loyalty and willingness to co-create with him proved key to its extensive popularity.
From teenaged music-makers styled The Tornadoes, his group evolved through several personnel shifts into Embryo to enjoy their most productive and successful phase from the early '70s to 1980 as a trailblazing recording and stage performance outfit.
Nappy's ever-fertile mind originated a continuous stream of unique creations with lyrical content ranging from his 1975 premier release 'Cash In Calypso/Breakaway' through the 1977 all-time best seller Wanna Make Love To You with sultry frontline songstress Nadie La Fond, down to his bittersweet plea in 1991's Bring Back The Ole Time Days.
After he was so unexpectedly taken from us in 1993, it was beyond doubt that Trinidad and Tobago and the world of popular music he too briefly inhabited had lost a phenomenal talent in Richard 'Nappy' Mayers.
The main focus of this compilation is layed on Nappy's early recording years with his own band Embryo and on artist such like Nadie La Fond, Felix Ceasar or Colin Lucas.

The Classic Cuts series takes seminal retro music genres and delivers slightly deeper catalogue next to the more well-known tracks in order to deliver fantastic packages of in-demand floor fillers alongside some lesser known gems.

The compilation market is full of predictable releases, so to have a series that doesn’t rely on the same old tracks could be a breath of fresh air. Available on both CD and vinyl, the range is perfect for collectors, old and new, plus bedroom and event and bar DJs who will see how carefully the track lists have been compiled.

The vast majority of the featured artists are very well known ; Elton John, Barry White, Chaka Khan, Marvin Gaye, Kool & The Gang, Marlena Shaw, Commodores, Diana Ross, The Supremes & Sylvester. But we haven’t always used the most obvious tracks meaning demand will be high, especially for the vinyl, as many of the included tracks are ones that are selling well as reissues but are expensive as one off items (Sisters Love, A Taste Of Honey, Lamont Dozier, Maze, Cameo, Don Covay & The Undisputed Truth).

The series has a breadth and depth of fantastic catalogue with each release having high end accompanying artwork to complement it.

‘The Original Sound of Burkina Faso’ follows the hugely successful ‘The Original Sound of Mali’ compilation released in March this year, also on Mr Bongo. Here we have a collection of songs that pay tribute to a truly golden age of music; touching on folk, funk, blues, highlife, disco, psyche, latin, rock and soul.

Burkina Faso may be one of the least well-known parts of West Africa but it has a deep history and musical pedigree. A few years before President Thomas Sankara changed his country’s name from Upper Volta to its current one, a new
sound emerged to soundtrack a cultural revolution.

Far from the twin epicenters of New York and Miami, Carlos Ruiz and his Ebirac label were both feeling and generating the aftershocks of the mid-’70s salsa boom. Holed up in their own bustling Puerto Rican community center on Chicago’s west side, these third coast salseros plied their trade outside the hot lights, cutting their teeth in city parks, VFW halls, and Holiday Inn rec rooms. Nearly 50 records survive in the wake of orquestas La Justicia, La Solucion, and Tipica Leal ’79, the most impassioned, singular moments of which are compiled here.

A sound that embraces different styles and different eras, but which has only one basic concept as a common denominator: spreading the “Black Power Sound”.

That’s the spirit of the double vinyl compilation of Soul Fingers, a legendary Black Music traveling party that has now become a cult in Italy, still religiously followed by dancers of all kinds and ages.

At Soul Fingers it is usual to listen and dance to a unique and tasty blend of soul, disco and funk, with rap and latin rhythms. There are no preconceptions other than that of putting songs to feel good and make people feel good.

The real deal is to share with the dancefloor a record that is magical, full of soul and that can elevate us from our state of human beings to become a single beating heart under the speakers of the sound system.

Finnish Disco and Electronic Music from Private Pressings and Unreleased Tapes 1980–1991

Hot on the sold-out heels of the three previous Svart-issued early 80’s synth pop and underground electronic music compilations (Satan in Love, Dance For Your Life, Cold War On The Rocks comes the last part of the quadrilogy: Black Hole, that reaches the final frontier of collectable cult synth disco music: privately released and completely unreleased music from 40 years ago. Black Hole has been again compiled by Mikko Mattlar, whose encyclopedic knowledge in the field of Finnish electronic music produces 20 cuts of electro-cult has helped him dig up 20 cuts of rare groove from obscure regional compilation records, seven inches of which only a test pressing exists, demo tapes and privately financed singles. Stylistically the compilation moves from 1979 disco funk as performed by Peak Funktion on their unreleased record to homebrewed synth visions by late 80’s bedroom wizards. Interesting curiosities among the 20 tracks include the riveting dance number by Jarkko Väljä, who received some fame back in the day as a Michael Jackson impersonator, and released one 7” single, that has become an expensive rarity. Another thing you wouldn’t believe existed at all if it wasn’t included here is “Israel Is Real” by We, a short-lived gospel vocal quartet, accompanied here by a drum machine and a synthesizer, which makes for an unforgettable and surprisingly catchy four minute piece of underground gospel disco from 1983. The compilation Black Hole – Finnish Disco and Electronic Music From Private Pressings and Unreleased Tapes 1979-1991 will be released by Svart Records on double vinyl and CD on October 14th.

Limited to 500 copies! No repress! Transparent red vinyl! Hype sticker on front! 1961 schwappten die ersten Tropfen der neuen Surf-Welle in den Äther. Eine Gruppe kalifornischer Teenager namens The Belairs veröffentlichten mit "Mr. Moto" das ersten lupenreine Surf-Instrumental und viele weitere sollten folgen. Es war ein Lebensgefühl, es ging um Freiheit, Rebellion gegen die miefigen 50er, um Party und natürlich um die nächste Welle. All das spielte sich vorzugsweise im sonnigen Kalifornien ab. Der erste Hit des Genres war "Misirlou" von Dick Dale, das 1962 veröffentlicht wurde. Der Track stellt deutlich die drei Hauptkomponenten des Surf heraus: ein tragendes Gitarren-Thema (eben kein Gesang!), exotische Harmonien und Akkordfolgen sowie ein gehöriges Maß an Wildheit und Lautstärke! Leo Fender entwickelte dann für Dick Dale zwei Innovationen, ohne die die Surf-Musik nicht das geworden wäre, was sie ist: Den Fender Reverb - ein separates Federhall-Gerät - und den Fender-Showman-Verstärker. Dieses Equipment gehört gerade für Puristen auch heute noch zur Grundausstattung eines Surf-Gitarristen, der seinen Job ernst nimmt. Natürlich gab es jede Menge Bands, die nur eine oder zwei 7"-Singles veröffentlichten, die lokal verteilt oder bei Gigs verkauft wurden. Man braucht schon einen Mann mit Spürnase, um die Juwelen rauszupicken und die entsprechenden Preise für das Kleinvinyl zu zahlen. Unser Mann heißt DJ Crille, seinerseits Resident im Komet! Club in Hamburg (nahe Reeperbahn), und anerkannter Surf-Spezialist. Nebenher ist er auch für die Vocal Group Madness! LP und die Born To Hula Doppel-LP in der DJ Set Serie -beide auf Stag-O-Leeverantwortlich. Surfin Burt"s Surfin Safari! - Vol. 2 ist praktisch die perfekte Welle.
