When unknown virtuoso guitarist Tosin Abasi released his debut solo album under the moniker ANIMALS AS LEADERS in 2009, few would have predicted the band's meteoric rise over the next two years. Although Abasi earned acclaim as the lead guitarist in the Washington, D.C.-based metalcore act Reflux, it was still a long-shot that an instrumental album of progressive metal with jazz, electronic and ambient flourishes would develop anything more than a cult following. With "Weightless," the group's sophomore effort, ANIMALS AS LEADERS is revered worldwide as a trailblazing pioneer of modern heavy music. The group's genre-defying compositions have earned extensive praise; Steve Vai called the band "the future of creative, heavy virtuoso guitar playing," and MetalSucks recently ranked Abasi #2 on their list of modern metal's top guitarists. Whereas the group's self-titled debut was a collaboration between Abasi and Periphery's Misha Mansoor, "Weightless" features the recording debut of ANIMALS AS LEADERS, the true band; Abasi (guitars), Javier Reyes (guitars) and Navene Koperweis (drums). After nearly two years of touring together, the trio wrote and recorded "Weightless" together in mid-2011, with Koperweis producing and Reyes mixing. Over 25 years trash metal band Annihilator has brought us nothing but fast, technical and energetic trash music. Led by axeman Jeff Waters, these Canadian musicians have acquired the status of trash metal legends and are the highest-selling Canadian trash metal group in history, having sold more than three million albums worldwide.

Since their formation in 1984, Annihilator has released 17 studio albums and several live albums. Their sophomore album Never, Neverland was released in 1990 by label Roadrunner. It is the only album of Annihilator where Coburn Pharr recorded the vocals and features their hit “The Fun Palace”.

Canada’s answer to Metallica? The Eddie Van Halen of thrash metal? Both these terms could have easily applied to Annihilator and its mastermind, lead guitarist and songwriter Jeff Waters. A fan of both speed metal and classic rock, the Canadian emphasized a flair for both. The fresh invention of Waters’ guitar work was a major reason why Annihilator got off to a promising start and have survived to the present, with a dozen or more albums under their belts.

THE BEST OF ANNIHILATOR compiles cuts from the band’s first three studio albums, a rarities collection, and a live disc, all of which emerged on Roadrunner between 1989 and 1996.

There have been many records in the years since, as Annihilator has continued to be one of the few bands to fly the flag for the classic thrash metal sound, earning themselves a devoted following and a regular spot on the European concert and festival circuit. Carnival Diablos is an album of red-blooded metal that connected Annihilator’s legacy to their present-day and re-established Jeff Waters’ place in the thrash pantheon. From the frenzied call-and-response of album opener ‘Denied’ to the progressively-edged mid-tempo sway of the title track, Carnival Diablos is a wholly satisfying offering of steak and potatoes heavy metal thrash – more heavy metal, less thrash, but 100% Annihilator at one of their many peaks.

Criteria for a Black Widow was a love letter to old-school Annihilator fans. It hit record shops at the precise moment the delirium of the 90s cleared and metal was ready to get heavy again. From the pummeling attack of opener Bloodbath to the classic brawl of Back To The Palace and the album's searing title track – all festooned with Jeff's ability to fuse the finesse of six stringed virtuosity with the auditory effects of a hand grenade – this was more than a return to form; it was the sound of Annihilator coming full circle.

Meet Änterbila, the most recent addition to the Nordvis community. Their self-titled debut album is a conceptual homage to the struggles of the 18th to 20th-century peasantry in their home country of Sweden. The anguish and fury of the downtrodden are embedded in every fibre of a musical score ranging from - and transcending - what would traditionally be categorized as black and folk metal.

Lurking amidst the metallic darkness are passages featuring violin, acoustic guitar, and traditional arrangements. This formula has produced a collection of songs deeply imbued with that wistful, sinister, and folkloric feeling present in various Nordic masterpieces by the likes of Storm, Isengard, Taake, Panphage, and Arckanum.

Fistful of Metal’ is the debut studio album by American thrash metal band Anthrax, released in January, 1984 by Megaforce Records in the US and Music for Nations internationally. It includes a cover of
Alice Cooper’s “I’m Eighteen”.
Critical reception to ‘Fistful of Metal’ was mixed. Xavier Russel of Kerrang! called it a great debut album, with songs played “at a hundred miles an hour” Canadian journalist Martin Popoff praised the well-produced sound and the “almost operatic anti-thrash vocals” from Turbin, considering the album responsible for “putting New York back on the US metal map, and quality back in the books of bruising and uncompromising underground metal.”
The term thrash metal was used for the first time in the music press by Kerrang!
journalist Malcolm Dome, referring to the song “Metal Thrashing Mad”. Guitar World magazine placed the album on their list of “New Sensations: 50 Iconic Albums That Defined 1984”.
In June 2019, Decibel inducted ‘Fistful of Metal’ in their Hall of Fame, due to its reputation as one of the best early examples of thrash metal.

Vinyl re-issue des ANTIMATTER Klassikers "Leaving Eden", Gatefold-LP (schwarzes Vinyl) inkl. gefütterter Innenhülle und Schutzhülle

Die Aufmerksamkeit der Welt richtete sich 1996 plötzlich nach Finnland und auf die bis dato der Heavy Metal Gemeinde unbekannten Band Apocalyptica. Als die vier Musiker ihren Vorbildern Metallica huldigten indem sie deren Stücke für vier Cellos arrangierten und als Akademie Prüfung während ihres Studiums vorstellten, war eine neue Sensation geboren. Die Resonanz war überwältigend und führte ihren Weg schließlich sogar als Opening Act in das Vorprogramm eines Metallica Auftritt in Finnlands Hauptstadt Helsinki.

Seitdem konnte ihr spezieller Sound eine enorme Gefolgschaft vereinen quasi und ein völlig neues Genre schaffen. Längst sind die vier Finnen den Fußstapfen von Metallica entstiegen und präsentieren ihre eigenen Kompositionen erfolgreich in der ganzen Welt.

Das 2007 als sechstes Album erschienene "Worlds Collide" erreicht schließlich die Top 10 nicht nur im Heimatland, sondern u. a. auch in den deutschen Charts. Japan feiert die Band und selbst in den USA erreichten Apocalyptica mit „Worlds Collide“ einen beachtlichen Platz 59 in den Billboard Top 200 wo sich das Werk ganze 39 Wochen in der Hitliste festsetzt. Gleichzeitig wird das Album zudem noch auf #7 in den US Top Rock & #7 der Top Independent Charts geführt. Fast schon bescheiden kommt da der Single Hit daher „I’m Not Jesus“ – aber fast! Das 2010 folgende Album "7th Symphony" kann den Erfolg des Vorgängers sogar noch ausbauen. Mit Platz 31 der US Charts zählen Apocalyptica mittlerweile zu den Mega Acts der Metal Szene. Mexico verbucht Platz 15, Polen zeichnet das Album mit Gold aus und auch in Deutschland erzielen sie mit Position 6 außergewöhnlich gute Ergebnisse. Natürlich lieben die Finnen ihre Finnen: Platz 2 zeugt davon.

Umso verwunderlicher, dass es nunmehr fast 10 Jahre gebraucht hat um beide Erfolgsalben auf Vinyl zu veröffentlichen. Bei "7th Symphony" gab es einen ersten Versuch, doch die Zeit war aber noch nicht reif für die Wiederauferstehung der LP, „Worlds Collide“ erscheint nun erstmals auf Vinyl.
