Now, in a time of uncertainty, Belgium’s NASTY is bringing the certainty of crushing sounds with their Century Media debut full-length, “Menace”. According to the band, “Menace” partially manifested itself during these globally turbulent times. “When the pandemic started it hit us all pretty bad during the recording and writing process. We wanted to write about the craziness in this world. This world is a menace for you, but you are also in danger of becoming a menace to this world through the input given by it.” “Menace” is 14 tracks of pure, pummeling musical violence. Recorded by Andy Posdziech (Any Given Day), “Menace” fits perfectly within NASTY’s mantra, “Four dudes doing fucked up music for a fucked up world.” Traditional song structures are sacked and replaced with stream of consciousness time signatures, breakdowns that drop like boulders with no warning, and Matthi - who handles all the vocals on the record - sounds like he’s screaming himself inside-out on every track. “Menace” could be NASTY’s most vengeful release to date. It is the sonic equivalent of a massive contusion. The front cover, done by artist Michael Shantz (Bring Me The Horizon, Your Demise, Drop Dead Clothing and many more), was already finished in late 2019, but turned out to be strangely fitting for these times. The band comments: “Our only guideline was capturing the insanity of the world including all kinds of nowadays’ additions. We gave him free rein and this is what he came up with.” Despite it’s caustic and chaotic nature, NASTY hopes that fans can find some catharsis in “Menace”. “We hope ‘Menace’ shows that you are not alone facing the problems the pandemic brings with it, and gives you new energy to fight through its effects.”

It’s the moment just after the tree-root thick tangle of guitars come in and the luminous clean vocals light up the sky while the keyboards suddenly shine from below: when the singing enters on ‘Astrologer’, the first track of Nattehimmel’s first album “Mourningstar”, that one might actually hear a continuation from In The Woods...’s legendary “Omnio” album from 1997. None of the 5 members are strangers to one another, having met before in bands such as In The Woods... and Strange New Dawn.
We guarantee that the members regard “Omnio” pretty highly.
Enough to revere it though? The similarity is not likely to be incidental, and anyway proves fleeting in the context of the 8 songs on “Mournigstar”, this new union turning out
very creative in shaping their Black Metal with a variety of elements. Primarily, the vocals set Nattehimmel apart from many other acts of this nature by including a variety of tropes from harsh growls to monkish groans to undead rasps, plus other backing parts that overlay the slightly echoey production with a ton of reson.

On ‘Towards the Tomb of Times’ NAXEN consolidates their own contemporary take on black metal which is both truthful to the Scandinavian heritage and incorporates the atmospheric counterpart of USBM and Eastern European Melodies. With four tracks spanning over 47 minutes, the album explores the weakness of mankind, the unavoidable loss and the inevitable failure of our species. Acknowledging that all hope is lost and remains redundant in the end, transcendence is sought through fire, the perishment of flesh and death as the ultimate liberation. These feelings of existential disappointment, depression and despair flow through the melodies, revolve in the lyrics and are captured in the visuals (by Arjen Kunnen). The layout is crafted by Tobias Hahn. The album is mixed and mastered by Andy Roscyzk (Ultha) at Goblin Sound encapturing the veritable coldness and giving transparency to the multi-layered essence of the songs. All those elements constituting ‘Towards the Tomb of Times’ and their songs of darkness and loss engraved on this record are illustrative of how NAXEN has progressed dramatically in terms of sound and song-writing since their original conception in 2018.

Ihrem Stil sind Neaera definitiv treu geblieben, haben sie doch noch eine Schippe mehr melodischen Death Metal auf die Waagschale gelegt und ihr Songwriting um einiges reifen lassen. "The rising tide of oblivion" - das Debutalbum der Münsteraner Metalcore-Combo Neaera! Dichte Gitarrenwände, ordentliches Geknüppel und ein Schuss schwedischen Death Metals weisen den Weg in den Metalcore-Himmel. An der Produktion haben die Herren natürlich auch nicht gespart. Fetter geht's nimmer!

On February 28th 2020 NEAERA released their 7th album – it was their self-titled comeback record after a 7-year-hiatus - which caught everyone by surprise. Despite having been very well perceived the pandemic impeded the band’s long awaited and already scheduled return to the live stages. On February 29th 2020, NEAERA played a successful and sold out release show in the band’s hometown, but it remained the only show for the record in years since Wacken, the Impericon festivals and other shows had to be postponed until further notice which was a huge setback for the ambitious quintet. Sebastian Heldt (drums), Tobias Buck (guitar) and Stefan Keller (guitar) used the unfortunate state of the pandemic and the impossibility to play live shows to create something new. Together with Marcus Bischoff of German metalcore institution Heaven Shall Burn and old friend Tristan Hachmeister they unearthed a black metal project by the name of OUR LOSS IS TOTAL and released the bleak full-length record “I” end of 2022 through the project’s own label. After that release, the NEAERA band members decided it was time write new material. The band wanted to go back to an old school approach, like in the old days, when they wrote the songs together in their little rehearsal room in their hometown of Münster, North Rhine Westphalia, Germany. The band started the writing process in September 2021, skipped the first material and then started with a new approach to a more free and less comfortable style, trying to leave old boundaries behind. By 2022, NEAERA played the postponed Wacken Open Air show – which was an overwhelming experience – and asked Janosch Rathmer (drummer of long-time friends and post rock institution Long Distance Calling) to record the band’s new album ALL IS DUST. The mixing and mastering was skilfully handled by Kristian Kohle at Kohlekeller Studios (Powerwolf, Aborted, Electric Callboy) who adorned the songs with the exact right powerful yet organic sound. In terms of lyrics, NEAERA shifted their approach a little bit and put the individual and its survival and well-being center stage – beside lyrics that deal with global or social clamour; a shift that can be called pandemic infused. 2024 marks the 20th band anniversary and is the perfect timing to release the eighth studio album, ALL IS DUST. Nothing can stop the band this year with two video clips at hand and prestigious summer festivals confirmed such as Summer Breeze, Reload and Vainstream Rockfest, the latter being the album release show in front of 20,000 people!

French/Swiss/Canadian hybrid Death Metal of the absolute highest calibre. Essential listening for fans of Immolation, Akercocke, Morbid Angel and Celtic Frost.
