Three men possessed of some of the most recognizable voices in heavy music split frontman duty. Boundary pushers and innovators, born and bred in different cities and tempered by their respective projects, each one is an equal participant in the fresh ceremony of inspired ritual, together with one of the most beloved drummers in heavy music. KILLER BE KILLED’s debut album was a force of nature that demolished preconceived notions of “supergroup” upon its arrival in 2014. RELUCTANT HERO, the band’s surprise follow-up, conceived in secrecy some six years later, doubles down on that mission statement while splashing the sonic canvas with new colors and visions.

Inventive in spirit and decisive in execution, KILLER BE KILLED sound borderline esoteric at times and yet remain unrelenting in heaviness and groove. Like its self-titled predecessor, the 11-song RELUCTANT HERO was produced and mixed in Southern California by Josh Wilbur (Lamb Of God, Megadeth, Gojira). It’s an assemblage of aggressive compositions that blends basement-show worthy carnage and massive festival-ready hooks, anchored in smart, dissident sensibilities, and raw authenticity.

None of these men are strangers to collaboration. Max Cavalera peppered Sepultura’s genre-redefining Roots with guests; a tradition continued on Soulfly’s RIAA certified gold debut. He was one-half of the incendiary Nailbomb, with English producer and Fudge Tunnel mastermind Alex Newport, and leads Cavalera Conspiracy with his brother, Iggor. Soulfly’s eleventh album, Ritual, is one of their most acclaimed. His fire is unquenchable.

Greg Puciato demonstrates his devotion to atmosphere and emotional honesty as one-half of the synth-driven chillwave duo The Black Queen. Continuously unleashing projects in diverse mediums from print to video, his debut solo album (which put him on the cover of Revolver Magazine) was another reminder of why MetalSucks has him at No. 1 on their list of the Top 25 Modern Metal Frontmen. Puciato led The Dillinger Escape Plan across five full-length albums and several EPs, till their multi-night final stand in New York City.

Troy Sanders is best-known as vocalist and bassist for metal shamans Mastodon. Their seven studio albums document an ever-evolving identity as standard-bearers for post-modern extremity, each of them rich and layered in texture, always boundary-pushing. He’s lead vocalist and bassist in Gone Is Gone, together with Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens Of The Stone Age, Failure, A Perfect Circle), Tony Hajjar (At The Drive-In) and Mike Zarin. The Grammy-winning Southern gentleman cut his teeth in the band Social Infestation.

Koller joined the group, after the recording and release of their first album, in time for KILLER BE KILLED’s inaugural live performances, alongside Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, and Judas Priest as part of the Soundwave Festival, and at club shows with Lamb Of God. As the propulsive force behind beloved noiserock titans Converge for two decades, Koller is one of the most respected drummers in the underground subculture. He’s a co-founder of All Pigs Must Die and Mutoid Man, the band he shares with Cave In’s Stephen Brodsky.

Killer Be Killed began when Max and Greg ran into each other at a Los Angeles benefit show for Chi Cheng, the late Deftones bassist who spent years in a semi-conscious state following a 2008 car accident. The two discussed doing a project, which led to a combination of riffs and a 72-hour writing session in the Arizona desert. Demos were recorded with the same drum machine and four-track Max used working on Chaos A.D..

Mastodon and The Dillinger Escape Plan have toured together many times. During one such tour, in late 2012, Puciato was telling Mastodon’s Troy Sanders about the new band.Before too long, Sanders and Cavalera met for the first time at a festival in South America. “Hey, I’m Troy. And I think we’re in a band together.” The electric chemistry was apparent the first time they all assembled together. The collective energy and mutual respect resulted in first-album bangers like “Wings of Feather and Wax” and “Curb Crusher.”

Things went quiet on the public front following the band’s string of shows in Australia, but KILLER BE KILLED remained steadfast in their commitment to rise again. Rather than stir up the heavy music community with talk about what they may or may not do, Cavalera, Puciato, Sanders, and Koller resolved to write and record the second album in secrecy. A cohesive, collective vision, RELUCTANT HERO represents a renewed statement of purpose with even more depth and clarity. KILLER BE KILLED is the sound of the specific chemistry in the room when these four guys are together. KILLER BE KILLED is inevitable.

Tatsächlich markiert Atonement den krönenden Abschluss zweier aufreibender, turbulenter Jahre, denn KsE haben schon 2017 damit angefangen, sich Ideen dafür zuzuwerfen. Den Großteil des Materials hat die Band separat an beiden Küsten aufgenommen. Aber mitten im Aufnahmeprozess entwickelte sich durch ein Geschwulst Narbengewebe in Jesses Kehle und zwang ihn, sich einer Operation zu unterziehen. Die intensive, dreimonatige Reha endete mit Sprech-, Gesangs- und Schreitherapie. Nach all dem liefert die Band jetzt ein Album ab, das ein erneuter Beweis für ihre unbestrittene Stellung als eine der beständigsten Metal-Bands der letzten zwei Jahrzehnte und darüber hinaus ist.

Die aufwendige Illustration des Albumcovers von Atonement stammt von niemand geringerem als dem talentierten englischen Künstler Richey Beckett (Metallica, Mastodon) in Zusammenarbeit mit Bandmitglied Mike D'Antonio, der die Artdirektion und das Layout übernahm.

Killswitch Engage first shook the structure of heavy music upon climbing out of snowy industrialized Western Massachusetts in 2000. Formed in Melbourne Australia in 2014, the band consists of Dave Hill (guitars), Tony Forde (vocals), and David Haley (drums) and have recently added long time live bass player Tim Anderson to their permanent line- up. Zach Cooper and Vic Dimotsis have quietly impacted pop, R&B
and hip-hop with production credits for everyone from The
Weeknd and SZA to Ellie Goulding, Gallant and Billy Porter.

In 2021, Vic and Zach co-wrote ‘Sing’ for Jon Batiste’s ‘We Are’.
It gathered eight GRAMMY Award nominations, including Album
Of The Year. They also penned ‘Sweeter’ (featuring Terrace
Martin) on Leon Bridges’ ‘Gold-Diggers Sound’, which notched
a GRAMMY nod in the category of Best R&B Album.

It’s a taste of retro without being a reproduction. The music is
crispy, searing, spacious, sandy and welded with perfect dimes
at the seams.

Breaking from the ‘rough and ruddy’ vibe of their first record,
Make It Sweat’, King Garbage incorporated a rock ‘n’ roll spirit
within this soul sphere. They teased the album with ‘Piper’ and
Peanut Butter Kisses’ before revealing the single ‘Busy On A
Saturday Night’. On the track, vocals hum barely above a
whisper as clean guitar wraps around horns before the high
register hook takes hold. It ends on a crescendo straight out of
a Sixties cop show.

Bass-y piano revs up ‘Monster Truck’, which Zach calls
“somewhere between musical theater and classic rock.”
Meanwhile, ‘Checkmate’ moves ice cold vocals and boisterous
horns across the board. Saxophone, flute, and clarinet
soundtrack a ‘Fargo-like tale’ on ‘Snow’, unfolding “like what a
big band should play in a strip club.” In the end, ‘Heavy Metal
Greasy Love’ is as smooth as King Garbage are.

American rock band King’s X combines progressive metal, funk and soul with vocal arrangements influenced by gospel, blues and British Invasion rock groups. Recurring themes are their struggles with religion and self-acceptance. During their major label career with Megaforce Records, King’s X secured opening slots for bands like Cheap Trick, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Scorpions, Pearl Jam and Mötley Crüe.

In 1990 they released their third studio album Faith Hope Love, which charted #85 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart. The featured single “It’s Love” peaked on the Billboard Singles Chart at #6. On the tracks “Mr. Wilson” and “Faith Hope Love” you’ll hear the Galactic Cowboys who provided backing vocals.

Gretchen Goes to Nebraska is the second studio album by American heavy metal/hard rock trio King’s X. It is a concept album based on a short story written by drummer Jerry Gaskill.

The album received virtually universal critical praise for its uniquely progressive musical approach and varied styles and is considered as one of their works, a seminal record within the progressive metal genre. It achieved high slots on various Album Of The Year-lists, including #4 in Kerrang!.

The combination of big riffs, driving rhythms, thick yet lithe bass lines and rich vocal melodies has made for some of the greatest music of all time, and in the hands of Kings Of Mercia this recipe is intoxicating. Best known as the founding guitarist for Fates Warning, Jim Matheos is incapable of stifling his creativity. In early 2021, he started working on the songs that would become Kings Of Mercia’s self-titled debut album, bringing his distinct style yet doing something a little different. Churning out songs, Matheos’ next concern was to find the musicians who would help him realize the material, and his first priority was a vocalist. Enter FM vocalist Steve Overland. The combination of Matheos’ riffs and Overland’s vocals makes for perfect bedfellows. Behind the kit for the record is the legendary Simon Phillips (ex-Toto, Derek Sherinian), one of Matheos’ favorite drummers. Rounding out the group is bassist Joey Vera - Matheos’ Fates Warning bandmate - who brings his trademark style and professionalism to the table. With these players involved it was an easy, stress-free process throughout, making music for the love of it, and coming up with something that sounds familiar yet new, expanding the repertoire of all involved. This means songs like the half-acoustic ballad, half-swaggering “Too Far Gone” or the beautiful “Everyday Angels”, and the soaring “Wrecking Ball”, which opens the record on a high note, all brought to life in dynamic style. The hardest part of the whole process was coming up with a name for the band. It made sense to self-title the record due to it being the band’s debut, and given how much life there is in the songs it would not be surprising if it did not become the first of many, the combination of those involved creating something special, and with Matheos’ permanent creative hunger you may well be hearing a lot more from Kings Of Mercia.

The Kings of the Fucking Sea are Sara Nelson (b), Poni Silver (d), and Chet Weise (g,v). All three members have toured and released records with critically acclaimed bands such as The Little Killers, The Ettes, and Immortal Lee Country Killers, respectively. The group's first record, In Concert (forthcoming from Agitated Records), was recorded live on a tascam reel-to-reel in a Nashville screen printing shop called Soft Junk.
