Just in time to the beginning of northern hemisphere summer Giraffe Records presents two outstanding and unknown versions of one of world's most famous compositions Summertime (G.Gershwin).
On side A you listen to the sound of the the Old Metropolitan Jazz Band (OMB), Poland's best-known Dixieland combo. The song was taken from the 1974 album entitled Dixie Funk Spirale, starts slowly and full of calmness until it blows off your mind from the middle part up to the end. It's the OMB's hand-shaking with the amazing performance of Mister Billy Stewart.
Side B presents a Vocal Jazz cool-down version performed by The Dave Harris Trio with Shirley Harris (drummer) as vocalist. This song has been taken from their album Wise Owl recorded in 1973 and catches the audience at the deepest point of musical quietness.
This pressing is limited to a total number of 400 copies and gives an impression how creative a song or composition can be interpreted by different musician.

There have been plenty of bigger labels, a great many more storied ones, and quite a few whose ratios of killer to filler run a bit more in favour of the curious purchaser: but there's something special about Seven B. The powder-blue label and plain, simple logo may not always be an iron-clad guarantee that the music in the grooves of the 45 is great, but there's a real sense of magic about each and every one of the New Orleans label's releases, and here we've picked out the best and the rarest.
Of the 3x7's contained in this pack we first come up with the full length of "Pass The Hatchet", with Eddie Bo playing the musical chameleon linking funk, soul and the Mariachi. Eddie continues on side 2 with the bewitching "From This Day On" on which drummer James Black ended up kicking out the trumpet player and doing it himself; then 17-year-old Lenny McDaniel blasts a fiery trail of pure energy through 'Something Out of Nothing'; Inez Cheatham teams up with Eddie Bo to give us "Lover And A Friend" over James Black's monstrous backbeat; and finally Pat Brown renders her sole 45 "Good Got To Suffer For The Bad" before seeing the light and joining a church.

Spiritual vocal jazz of the highest order! The 11th release in the JAZZ DANCE SERIES comes from Deep Jazz, one of the finest bands on the Munich Jazz scene. Band leader and bass player Jerker Kluge is deeply rooted in the jazz music of the 1960s, as released on legendary labels Impulse and Blue Note. The core of his new album is the spiritual and modal jazz from this era, but of course Kluge´s own musical ideas and influences are added, creating a special musical cosmos that is additionally spiced by the individual talents of the involved musicians. Their debut 45RPM single features the Roland Kirks original Spirits Up Above backed by Kluge's own composition No Doubt. Both tunes feature the phenomenal voice of Julia Fehenberger who is best known for her work with the Boogoos and their now classic interpretation of the Art Ensemble of Chicago's Theme de Yoyo.

I am a pianist, composer, improviser, performing artist and a multitasking musician in life,
currently living and working in Reykjavík.
I was born 1978 in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland and have been playing the piano and keyboards since age of 9.
My main focus and interest is in improvisation, composition and performance of music.
How improvisation and composition can meet effortlessly as a creation of musical ideas and sounds.
I am also thoughtful of the general passion & drive behind creation of things, in what way they are presented and passed on to people, in music, arts and life in general.
Since childhood I´ve collaborated with a whole spectrum of artist, from obscure troubadours in the countryside to stadium bands, covering all fields og music, both in Iceland and abroad.
I have also composed and arranged a great deal of music for Theater, Film, Art installations, performances and videos of all kinds.
Released my first album Rask in 2002, and now I am currently composing and working on a series of records with solo piano music for Radio Bongo with Improvised Pianoworks I (broadcast01) as the first Radio Bongo release.

Finally, after 2 years of touring her debut album with the Mighty Mocambos, Gizelle Smith is now ready to reveal a first sample of her newly recorded solo material. The 45 is available for sale in very limited quantities as most of the edition is for DJ use only. Comes in authentic brown paper sleeve, with DJ-friendly vocal version and instrumental edit.

The single was released in the latter part of "82" it became pick hit of the week in Billboard Magazine in early "83". Both tunes were the first songs ever written by Harold, and his first recordings as a single artist.

The early 80's was a time of uncertainty. The economy was in a shambles and male/female relationships were starting to deteriorate, thus why is "A Shortage Of Love" is a pure reflection of the sentiment during those times.

Ironically, no one had flipped this record over until recently.

The band was a dynamic group of guys called The Brew City Band, with Johnnie Mills on guitar, Tommy Ford on bass, Michael Reese on keyboards, and Leonard Washington (deceased) on drums. The horns were arranged by Warren (Vito) Wiegratz now the leader of The Milwaukee Bucks (NBA) Basketball band. He is also the sax soloist. The background singers were Harold's sister, Charity Marie, his cousin, Cora Kemp, and his daughters, Latasha, and Taneka. This was recorded at Cornerstone Recording studio, a state of the art facility, engineered by David Seibaur.

Herbie Hancock is one of the most prolific jazz pianists of the 20th century. A child prodigy, he played with the greats such as Donald Byrd and Miles Davis. He was one of the first to embrace and master the electric piano, but he always stayed true to the acoustic sound. In fact, he always bounced back and forth between his electronic and acoustic sound, touching upon almost every development in R&B, Funk and Jazz while retaining an original and distinctive voice.
'Sextant' from 1973 was recorded just before 'Headhunters'(MOVLP030), and can be seen in the same vein, but it's more than just an introduction to a masterpiece. It features a kind of post-modal, free impressionism while gracing the edges of funk. Three long instrumental tracks explore how far minimalism in jazz can go. Music On Vinyl is re-issuing this Hancock gem for the first time since 1973!

This record is the result of a 1964 jam session organised by Astor Silva and Wilson Das Neves and was originally released in 1975 on the Brazilian label Discos CBS.
