Music had always been important to Quaid, 'As far back as I can remember, music has always been a big part of my life. My third cousin was Gene Autry, the original Western movie singing cowboy. My grandmother played piano and sang songs from the '20s, songs from her youth. My dad played piano and crooned like Bing Crosby and looked a little like Dean Martin.' Among Quaid's musical heroes you'll find Buddy Holly, Hank Williams, Willie & Waylon, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, The Doors, James Brown, and more. With influences like those, it's no surprise that members of The Sharks have serious musical pedigrees of their own with Jamie James having led The Kingbees; and Sharks, Tom Mancillas, Ken Stange, and Tom Walsh having worked over the years with artists as varied as Harry Dean Stanton to Roger Miller, Tina Turner, Joe Cocker, Supertramp, America, and more! August 2018: It's already been three years since Domenique Dumont made its entrance in the music world with a debut EP named Comme Ca. Despite a seemingly very quiet musical activity (the opening song to Antinote's compilation Five Years Of Loving Notes was the only song released by the band in 3 years) a few things have changed in-between these two summers: Domenique Dumont is no more the mysterious lone French producer we introduced last time but a Latvian duo, Arturs Liepins and Anete Stuce, which has been collaborating with 'an enigmatic French artist whose existence cannot be confirmed nor denied' (sorry, but it sounds like there's still some mystery in the air, and, again, we're just as clueless as you might be), the duo have been touring live and, most importantly, they kept on broadening their musical palette experimenting in a definitely pop field. Eight of these experiments are now tied together in Miniatures de Auto Rhythm.

The record probably begins where Comme Ca ended: frantic but light drum programing backbones a solar and slightly melancholic melody on Le Début De La Fin ('the beginning of the end'). However, the scope gets enlarged as soon as one reaches the second tune, Quasi Quasi, or Quand, on the flip side, perhaps the most overtly pop-rock oriented song on the record with its Mediterranean guitar and emotional bridge.

The road towards the apex of the record, Le Soleil Dans Le Monde, is a narrow and windy one, punctuated by toy instrumentals like Ono Mambo Haiku or the Donkey Kong Country-friendly Message Of The Diving Bird; however it never departs from its original tongue-in-cheek attitude. It's quite pleasant to imagine these eight 'miniatures' as field recordings from an enchanted world of pop music designed by some Pierre & Gilles' disciples - or are there
musical interpretations of half-mechanical, half-organic creations from a certain Otto Rhiesem (who might have inhabited the Locus Solus villa) There might be no definitive answers to this second set of riddles by Domenique Dumont.

""By Fire" is a burial song," says frontwoman Nai Palm, about the personal track. "It discusses the creative and destructive forces of fire and uses this element as a reference point to express about my father passing away in a house fire."

Five years since their last album, Mexican acoustic rock guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela are ready to embark on the next chapter of their remarkable story, with the release of the most ambitious music of their twenty year career together.
Entitled 'Mettavolution', the new album brings together Rod and Gab's passionate interest in Buddhism, the history of human evolution and the liberation of the potential we have as a species; all expressed through the medium of two acoustic guitars.
Three years in the making, the duo vowed to go back to the heart of their music, to feel the same way they did when they first moved from Mexico City to Ireland back in 1999, searching to reconnect with the original intention and (in their own words) 'the reason of why we do what we do, to share something we do with all our hearts in order to inspire, even to heal people through music'.

Conceived and composed in their studio in Ixtapa on the Mexican Pacific Coast, then road-tested in South America and the USA in 2017, before more fine tuning and further tweaks on their Australian tour of 2018, a long list of new material has been distilled down to six new Rodrigo y Gabriela compositions and one audacious, jaw-dropping cover version.


A white-hot side one that acknowledges the duo's thrash-metal roots back in Mexico City gives way to an incredible new arrangement of Pink Floyd's 'Echoes', inspiringly reimagined for two acoustic guitars, which takes up the whole of the second half of 'Mettavolution'. Long-time Floyd fans (the title track of 2009's '11:11' album was dedicated to the band) Rodrigo y Gabriela lovingly pay homage to the 'Meddle' era prog-classic, while at the same time weaving their own golden threads into its timeless textures, to create something exciting, contemporary and unforgettable.

Recorded in Los Angeles with noted producer Dave Sardy, best-known for his work with Oasis, LCD Soundsystem, A Perfect Circle and Fall Out Boy, 'Mettavolution' is Rodrigo y Gabriela reborn, reaching for a higher state of consciousness, pushing themselves as writers, interpreters and players, and challenging us the listener to absorb, engage and respond to them.

James Yorkston releases his new album 'The Route To The
Harmonium'. The album was almost entirely recorded by James
himself, in the small Scottish fishing village of Cellardyke, where
he lives. Yorkston's studio is a ramshackle old loft space,
originally used to repair fisherman's nets and now stuffed full
with the antique instruments James has collected throughout
his life as a musician.
Having created hours of recordings, James called up his old
collaborator David Wrench - the mixer and producer who has
worked with the likes of Caribou, Four Tet, Frank Ocean, FKA
Twigs and David Byrne - to help make sense of the sessions.
'The Route To The Harmonium' (or, 'the search for peace') is
the sound of home, of undisturbed craftmanship. Listen closely
and you can imagine him putting it together.
Friends and family past and present swim all over his songs.
Remembering them - and those you've shared life with - is the
strongest thread running through these affecting, extraordinary
songs. 'When a friend jumps ship it's always a haymaker to the
gut, you know And this album is about them, but it's more
about us, us who are left behind...' he says.

Pom Poko are Ragnhild (lead vocals), Ola (Drums), Jonas
(Bass) and Martin (Guitar). The four met whilst all
studying at the Trondheim Music Conservatory in Norway
and quickly garnered interest from a wider audience as
they began playing and writing together.
The group cite a range of influences for their unique
sound, including '(West)-African music like Oumou
Sangaré and Ali Farka Touré; indie bands like Vulfpeck,
Palm and KNOWER; noisy high-energy bands such as Hella
and Death Grips; and music with interesting lyrics such as
Jenny Hval and Nick Drake.' One would struggle to pin
them down to one or two forebears however, given their
resistance to anything resembling a prescriptive approach.
Speaking about the origin of their name, which taken from
one of the more vigorously outré films by Japanese
animation visionaries Studio Ghibli, the band explain, 'The
Pom Poko film captures a lot of what we'd like our
concerts to be: high energy, fast pace, lots of stimulus for
eyes and ears - and most importantly, really crazy and fun.
The movie is basically the time of your life for two hours,
and afterwards you're in some state of exhausted ecstasy.
Plus the raccoons in the movie, and raccoons in general,
are really badass.'
Between the quartet's sweetly punky melodies and disco
fried art-rock eruptions, a spirit of free-firing, balls-out
individuality courses through this exhilarating debut.

With Bail Was Set at $6,000,000 Batmobile was looking for a sound that was more fitting to the live sound of that moment, something they always did when recording an album. The main difference with the previous albums was they putted more emphasis on the guitar, which led to a slightly 'heavier' sound than Batmobile had before. The album itself contains songs that became long time live favorites such as 'Kiss Me Now', 'Calamity Man' and the Motörhead cover 'Ace of Spades'.

The legendary Dutch psychobilly kings Batmobile formed in 1983 and were the first band not from the United Kingdom to perform at the influential psychobilly club, Klub Foot.

With 2019 marking 50 years since David Bowie's first hit, Space Oddity, Parlophone is set to release a 7" vinyl singles box set of nine previously unreleased recordings* from the era during which Space Oddity was first conceived.The title 'Spying Through A Keyhole' is a lyric taken from the previously unknown song, Love All Around, and though most of the other titles are known, these versions have never been officially released until late last year. Most of the recordings are solo vocal and acoustic home demo performances, unless otherwise stated. 
The design of each single label is presented to reflect the way David sent many of his demos to publishers and record companies, featuring his own handwritten song titles on EMIDISC acetate labels. The singles themselves are all mono and play at 45 r.p.m.
 
Due to the nature of some of the solo home demos where Bowie accompanied himself on acoustic guitar, the recording quality isn't always of a usual studio fidelity. This is partly due to David's enthusiastic strumming hitting the red on a couple of the tracks, along with the limitations of the original recording equipment and tape degradation. However, the historical importance of these songs and the fact that the selections are from an archive of tracks cleared for release by Bowie, overrides this shortcoming.

Former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke released his debut solo album Pawnshop Guitars 25 years ago. It's a collection of rootsy hard rock songs, featuring guest appearances by the other Guns N' Roses members, guitarist Ryan Roxie, Pixies vocalist Frank Black and others. This lost classic contains some of his best songs, including the energetic rocking title track and The Rolling Stones cover 'Dead Flowers', featuring Axl Rose on vocals. Gilby Clarke is an American musician and record producer known for his 3-year tenure as the rhythm guitarist of Guns N' Roses. Afterwards he started a solo career and played guitar with Heart, Nancy Sinatra and MC5.

In an age where music is available instantly and bands appear and fade just as quickly, the power and resiliency that is OVERKILL who's initial social media was stuffing show flier ads under windshield wipers in the 80s, has remained as resolute as ever, and even more so. New frontiers aren't often conquered in the modern world of heavy metal, yet OVERKILL remain unfazed by the growing presence of social media, modern internet, a demand for streaming services, and a general sense of competition between the sea of other metal bands trying to make a name for themselves, today.
    It's with over 30 years under their leather belts that these New Jersey natives are prepared to unveil their latest offering: 'The Wings Of War.' With 10 tracks and fifty one minutes long, their 19th full length album is the ultimate combination of sickening brutality and addictive melody. It was yet another incredible album cover design by Travis Smith that sparked the idea of what to name this next album. With 5 of the iconic Overkill winged skulls brooding powerfully around the table seemingly prepared for battle, 'The Wings of War' simply rolled off the tongue.
    With the fresh addition of seasoned drummer Jason Bittner (ex-Shadows Fall, Flotsam And Jetsam, Stigmata), OVERKILL is experiencing a new chemistry this time around, truly giving the record a unique feel. The writing was funneled through its familiar foundation, but now had a fresh influence and energy that inspired the entire band.

    Album opener 'Last Man Standing' is OVERKILL kicking the door in with a hard and loud tune that's rooted in some of the best angst that thrash possesses. Memories retained from this song are memories similar to the classic 80's vibe but with a new-age mechanical feel that thoroughly updates it. This was also the first song recorded with newcomer Jason Bitner. The album's second single 'Head Of A Pin' is a lyrical journey about disappointment and trust. Musically, the song comes across as 'Black Sabbath on meth' proclaims Blitz. It intertwines riffs and vocal melodies that pick it up into a real pounder and create something truly special.
'The Wings Of War'  also holds something to look forward to for east coast metal heads with a track entitled 'Welcome To The Garden State.' Bobby Blitz explains: 'It's all about us. It's the way we grew up as kids, it's a certain attitude about the area, it's responding to 'we don't do that where we're from' with: 'well guess what, you're not where you're from! You're here, now!' The song sums up the New Jersey attitude with over 4 minutes of thrashy, punky, honest vibration, and defines OVERKILL, as well.    With at least the next six months already blocked off for a Southern American tour, European tour with Destruction, Flotsam & Jetsam, and an American tour with Death Angel, OVERKILL are on overdrive as usual with no signs of coming to a halt. This most recent cycle has a different feel; an old formula that evolved with new life and new breath and that after all these years, still generates an exquisite power.

British rising star Yola's debut solo album, Walk Through Fire, is produced by The Black Keys' eight-time Grammy Award winner Dan Auerbach. Yola has blazed her own trail with an unshakable passion for the soul and country music she loves. Walk Through Fire is a contemporary twist on a traditional sonic tapestry of orchestral strings, fiddle, steel and shimmering tremolo guitars, it provides the perfect soundtrack to Yola's arresting vocals, which first came to the attention of Auerbach after a friend sent him a video of Yola performing in Nashville. The album includes the single 'Faraway Look'. Yola was an audience favorite when she performed the song on Jools Holland's Annual Hootenanny on New Year's Eve (performance here).

Dan Auerbach stated, 'The moment I met Yola I was impressed. Her spirit fills the room, just like her voice... she has the ability to sing in a full roar or barely a whisper and that is a true gift. She made everyone in the studio an instant believer.' Yola said, 'Lyrically the song is about escapism and the video adds an awesome twist. We wrote the song about getting away from an oppressive environment. I was in an abusive relationship a while back, so I drew on the feeling of relief and release that I had when I truly felt free.'

Hailing from a small town outside Bristol, Yola grew up in poverty with an unsupportive parent who 'banned' her from making any music. She later became homeless, living on the streets of London and also experienced stress-induced voice loss. Yola overcame these challenges to launch a successful sideline in writing, performing on pop hits and briefly joined Massive Attack. She was also the main writer and front woman in Phantom Limb, opening for artists including James Brown and Dr. John before pursuing her solo career in 2016. She quickly made her mark in the US with her vocal powers and innovative songwriting winning early supporters, including Rolling Stone, the Wall Street Journal, Paste, Stereogum, NPR and The Current's Bill DeVille who exclaimed, 'She's a powerhouse of a singer: she's part Southern soul, she's part gospel and she's completely amazing. You'll want to remember her name: Yola.'

Written and recorded at Auerbach's Nashville studio, Easy Eye Sound, Walk Through Fire is a truly collaborative record. It was written in the studio by Yola and Auerbach with contributions from songwriting legends who between them have written songs for artists from Glen Campbell to Aretha Franklin. Auerbach also assembled his Easy Eye Sound all-star house band composed of legendary session players. Musicians who performed on the record include bassist Dave Roe (Johnny Cash) as well as drummer Gene Chrisman and pianist Bobby Wood who played on hits by Dusty Springfield and Elvis Presley. Guest performers include up-and-comer Molly Tuttle and country music icon Vince Gill. Yola's debut album Walk Through Fire is the latest release on Dan Auerbach's record label, Easy Eye Sound, distributed by his longtime label Nonesuch Records. Originally released 3 December 1978, Back to Earth would be Cat Steven's 11th studio album and his last for almost 30 years.

1977 and 1978 were a period of great change for Cat Stevens. He had formally embraced the Muslim faith, changed his name to Yusuf Islam, been awarded the Sun Peace Award by the United Nations and had reunited with producer Paul Samwell-Smith and guitarist/collaborator Alun Davies to embark on one last record before turning his back on the music industry, seemingly for good.

Sonically, the album was a return to the acoustic sound of Yusuf's earlier work. Intended, in part, as his swan song to the recording industry. 2006's An Other Cup saw Yusuf return to music and with a re-found verve for his exceptional catalogue of work.

Blues Creation was founded in Tokyo in 1969. They released this, their impossibly rare debut of American blues covers, that same year. Featuring covers of Sonny Boy Williamson, Chester Burnett, Memphis Slim, Willie Dixon, and more, this is the greatest recorded example of the Japanese obsession with American blues music. The band would record several more albums and then come back as, simply, Creation, but nothing reached the sheer blues rock heights of their debut.

To celebrate the release of the new album, Drenge have announced they will tour the UK in spring 2019, taking in eight shows including a night at the Electric in Brixton. Into the light proudly picks four utterly spellbinding highlights of this totally unheard material. Mac DeMarco here covering one of his biggest musical idols, Haruomi Hosono. Having referenced him in numerous interviews and on his album covers, DeMarco now pays direct homage to the Japanese legend with his sincere take on 'Honey Moon,' originally released on Tropical Dandy in 1975. DeMarco effortlessly sings the original lyrics in Japanese, while maintaining his own unmistakable cool.

In 2019, Hot Water Music will be celebrating their 25th anniversary as a band and tour the world performing tracks from their entire catalog. Epitaph Records will be repressing three of the band's albums on vinyl for release in 2019: 2001's A Flight and A Crash, 2002's Caution and 2004's The New What Next.

Live At the Palomino, 1983 features 12 tracks from the early Lone Justice line-up consisting of Maria McKee, Ryan Hedgecock, Marvin Etzioni, and Don Willens. Songs from their yet to be issued debut are coupled with classic country covers, and songs which have appeared on various collections throughout the years—but never with this live power from this L.A. landmark. Packaging features photos and new notes from Etzioni and Hedgecock, and is issued with full cooperation from the band. Industrial Silence is the debut album by Norwegian alternative Rock band Madrugada. The album contains the singles 'Electric', 'Higher' and 'Beautyproof' plus live favourite 'Vocal'. The album kicks off with the majestic 'Vocal', with its dense and thick guitar sound and singer Sivert Höyem's distinctive crooning on top of it all. What's really impressive on this album, besides the quality of the songs, is guitarist Robert Burås' creative and versatile playing. He plays everything from country-like slide guitar leads to fierce punk rock power chords, gentle acoustic strumming, and something not unlike flamenco on the apocalyptical 'Salt'.

Madrugada, although having successful singles and EPs on the Norwegian charts, are most definitely not a singles band. Their strength is not catchy three-minute pop songs; it is their epic, melancholic ballads like 'Electric' and 'Shine,' and intense rockers like 'Higher,' that make Madrugada stand out.

US thrash metal titans, Megadeth released their tenth studio album 'The System Has Failed' in September 2004. Following the
direction set by its predecessor 'The World Needs A Hero' it headed further into the bands thrashier past and was a hit amongst fans and critics alike. Debuting at number 18 on the Billboard charts, the album received positive reviews across the board stating it as vital and solid.
