Simon Herody put together a live solo performance sequencing electronic devices on stage for him to jam over with acoustic instruments. He played a lot in hotels and lobbies. The music had to be present but not too intrusive. Subtle electronics to guide his saxophone and flute playing. The setup proved successful and inspired him to compose the works that would become 'Hard Lounge'.

'At the same time, I was working at a bar/record store in Neukölln called Motif. Everything changed when I discovered the album "Heisei No Oto - Japanese Left-field Pop From The CD Age." I remember this guy, Jamie, who would sometimes bring new releases to the shop. This album really changed things for me; I was constantly playing it and it inspired the creation of these works tremendously.

The composition process for "Hard Lounge" was pretty unclear. I never really made conscious choices; I wanted to escape the conflicts that come with picking the right chords. I aimed to create music that transports your imagination to a sort of retro 80s jazz lounge, where people feel comfortable and at ease just sitting and listening. I wanted to act like a music designer, giving people a chance to listen without demanding too much of their attention.'

Bordello A Parigi welcome the prolific Kirill Junolainen into the fold. He debuts under his Konerytmi alias with four tracks that join the dots of disco, italo, synth pop and wave.

The title piece, “Super Ekstaasi”, is an analogue rollercoaster of emotive lyrics and sparkling synthlines shot through with distant melancholy. The frosty “Klassikkoelokuva” follows. Contrasting its predecessor, this glacial work of electro cuts crystalline chords with crisp claps and bending basslines. Temperatures rise on the flip. Slow and sci-fi inspired, the thoughtful “Hirvijarvi” explores the cosmos through searching synthlines and probing percussion. The gamut of Konerytmic is on display with the finale being no exception. “Uusiaalto” is both brittle and bold. Refracted computer chirps are draped in soaring strings, pinpricks of drum piercing the stern samples that break the delicacy of the track’s composition. Super Ekstaasi through and through.

Tony Price is back again with Street Theatre, an electrifying new LP on his Maximum Exposure label that serves up eight tracks of rude, crude, real-deal house music with absolute attitude.

Following the recent release of the psychedelic jazz reveries of Requiem for the Ontario Science Centre, this is his second release of 2025 and marks a return to the dancefloor.

Street Theatre is total midnight music—eight tracks of ferocious Chicago house worship, replete with slamming drum machine beatdowns, laser-guided synthesizers, and radioactive funk refractions that evoke Z-Factor’s primal neon pulse, trench coat-era Prince, WBMX cut-ups, and Ron Hardy’s splice-happy Muzic Box mania.

Produced in the span of a week at his studio in Greektown, Toronto, these recordings exemplify what can now undoubtedly be called Tony Price’s signature style—an unvarnished, elemental, no-nonsense approach to record production and sound design that reduces dance music down to its crudest textures and core principles, an approach and ethos that have guided his entire body of work.

Tony’s recorded output showcases fearless exploration across genres—classic house, funk, electro, and the outer limits of electronic jazz and musique concrète. Highlighting a decade of working together as ‘Fronte Violeta’, Brazilian transdisciplinary artist Anelena Toku and musician and sound artist Carla Boregas are set to release the album ‘Fronte Violeta’, a captivating blend of aural compositions, scents and experiences.
Switching the moniker name to the album title serves as a way to showcase the culmination of their multidisciplinary project’s journey, developed from compiling fragments, sounds and intentions from their previous body of work comprising electroacoustic and electronic music composition, moving image, scent, installation and live performances.

‘Fronte Violeta’ is a sonic amalgam where synthesized sounds, percussion, voice, feathers, branches and other non-human sonorities coalesce. Toku and Boregas have skillfully woven together those elements creating a rich tapestry of interconnected sounds that tension our perception as something always in motion, never fully settling into an established form.

2024"s retrospective box We Have Dozens of Titles brought the revelatory 1993-"98 output of Gastr del Sol back into the world of physical objects, following a decade in which most of their music was mostly available online. The ruckus that the box generated in the so-called real world was intense enough to warrant some more fun excursions; thus, we begin our vinyl reissue series of the Gastrlog at the end of the line, with their "art-pop masterpiece" somebody"s words, not ours - but we"ll take "em): Camoufleur. Gastr del Sol released Camoufleur in February of 1998. It was a ringing down of the curtain on an extraordinary five years of music making (and unmaking) with one of the best albums of that era - or any other. Once out in the world, Camoufleur went over like gangbusters. Listening in today, it still does - time has only burnished its unique superpowers. Upon release, of course, and with the same sense of enigma in which they"d issued their music, Gastr del Sol abruptly vanished, leaving all that stuff to time. And by golly, in time we"ve found it again, and huzzah almighty, have recommitted it to ol" reliable, the singular magic of the vinyl platter, for the enjoyment and edification of a new nation.

McKinley Dixon’s Durchbruch begann in 2021 mit dem vielgeliebten "For My Mama and Anyone Who Look Like Her" und setzte sich 2023 mit "Beloved! Paradise! Es dauerte nicht lange, und Dixon traf sich mit ihm in London und wühlte sich durch sein Archiv, um eine Fülle von Beats zu finden, die mit seinem eigenen Ansatz und dem aufkeimenden Konzept für "Magic, Alive!" übereinstimmten. The name dreamcastmoe is somewhat synonymous with the Peckham based "Rhythm Section INTL" Label. With a sound equally indebted to hip hop, house, hazy electronics and DC"s very own "go-go" sound - dreamcastmoe, born Davon Bryant-James burst onto the scene with a refreshing mix of styles matched with an irresistible personality.

For his first solo vinyl release Slovenian producer Nitz drops four introspective cuts exploring unusual rhythms and soundscapes. Spanning techno, electro and IDM, this is material built for discerning dancefloors.

Spectral Bounce’s fifth instalment comes courtesy of L.A.’s rave archivist and dancefloor operative Dreams, A.K.A. Jesse Pimenta. Throughout his decade-long career the California native has inspected, dissected and concocted all manner of dance musics, leaving his mark with drops on Apron Records, Pinkman, BANK NYC and his own imprint Dance Data. On SPEC05 — Dangerous When Wet — he hijacks the synapses with 4 accomplished productions, plotting a high BPM course through manifold styles using the raw aesthetic that characterises his output.

“Losing Control” is a frenetic dancefloor invitation, immediately locking into a pacing groove. Beneath wild hand drums, Dreams plays with an insistent 303 bassline alternating between rasping buzz and oily squelch, while stern vocals are layered on top of breaks that have been processed to a viscerally satisfying end.

Taking things from delirious dance circle to underwater biosphere, the EP’s eponymous track explores a submerged 1980s Miami. Weighty & enveloping, “Dangerous When Wet” is pure aquatic pop-n-lock — hydraulic electro for a drowned world. Ocean floor caustics are transmuted into auditory form: arpeggios bubble up; drones shimmer mystically; hi-hats hiss like air from an open valve. Amongst the sonar bleeps, a barrage of pummeling low-end is sure to give subwoofers a workout.

“XTC Messenger” delivers an infectious paranoid dispatch, astutely balancing the sensual with the deranged. A slow-mo dial tone unfolds languidly, running counter to nervously twitching high frequencies. Its punchy percussion is tuned for maximum dopamine release; the track’s abrupt vocal chops and mechanical kick-snare pulsation evoke the leather jackets and jagged edges of 1980s industrial discotheque.

“Pressure Points” closes the EP on a heady and mesmerising polymetric trip. The parting track is a lithe yet spacious number, propelled by a rattling break. Here Dreams follows from track 2, creating an immersive environment in which sounds tightly twist and twirl. Shifting oscillators call out like tiny creatures as the bass throbs and wriggles further into your brain, long after the needle hits the runout groove.

Brooklyn’s Broad Channel drops its first-ever collaborative release, “Intercity Relations Guide – Volume 1”. This special 4-track EP bridges vibrant underground scenes from NYC, Chicago, Detroit, and Japan, featuring tracks from Mark Grusane, Deon Jamar, DJ Monchan & Aota, and Derek Russo & Thomas Xu. MEMOTONE, aka Will Yates, has announced details of a new 12-track album, smallest things, set for release on World of Echo on 1 August 2025 on vinyl and digitally.

The album launches today with first track, ‘Time Is Away Theme’, a live favourite that is finally available on album. Watch the video HERE Talking about the release, Will has said, “Staring at a square inch of neglected concrete, I recognise the beauty of existence. Quietly hysterical. While humanitarian catastrophes bubble across the planet, the tides remain in constant and disinterested motion. Your money is worth less than the dusty moss that powders this pavement.

It's certainly not worth a life. We are the smallest things, along with everything else." Will Yates has made music as Memotone since 2007. He operates in the tradition of what Robert Fripp has called 'a small, independent, mobile, and intelligent unit.' If you book him, he will come. When he arrives, he will have everything he needs to make his complex, engaging music: a clarinet, a guitar, synths, samplers and pedals, quickly unpacked in the corner of a club, gallery or village hall. Starting small, he will build layer upon layer of melody, accompanying himself and cutting across himself, creating a music that avoids cliche and moves beyond easy description. His recordings have followed the same trajectory. Moving quickly, he has released fifteen or so albums across various labels (including Trilogy Tapes, Discrepant, Soda Gong). Taken together, these recordings are the sound of a skilled, inventive composer pushing at the edges of what he wants to listen to himself. It is possible to hear a variety ofinfluences in his music: folk and jazz forms, the textural inventiveness of British DI electronica and Chicago post-rock and the blurred sci-fi brass of Jon Hassell are all discernible. But mostly, Will's work seems to stem from a constant drift between long hours in his home studio, and time spent outside in the woods and hills around his home in Wales.

Listening to the album, lushness creeps in at the edges, tiny green shoots appear on what might at first appear to be bare soil. smallest things sheds the skin of Will's previous recordings, removing the electronics and the looping and layering of previous work, to create something almost entirely acoustic. But don't be fooled into imagining music that's folksy, pastoral or twee. Opening track 'I Could See the Smallest Things' is a statement of intent. Widely spaced guitar is underpinned by earthy cello and sleepwalking clarinet, making a gorgeous threadbare pattern, which recalls a Morton Feldman miniature or a Morandi still life.

Beyond the skill involved and the years of self-taught music making that have gone into putting this record together, it is Will's close, careful attention and his talent for existing, observing and creating in the moment that make his work special. Memotone will perform at World of Echo’s annual birthday celebration on 8 Nov Expected Music, when they take over Walthamstow Trades Hall for an inter-genre, day-long investigation into some of the more outré manifestations of the contemporary worldwide underground.

This is a new project for Spooky’s Duncan Forbes on 49North.

Together with internationally acclaimed violinist Jonathan Hill, the duo have produced a ten track album that is a blend of beautiful atmospheric electronica combined with analogue sonics, treated piano and live strings.

Each track is accompanied by an abstract film created by Matthew Le Maistre Smith alongside Duncan.

This is a very limited new version of what was once a very limited 7" release. The original 7" contained a remix from Pete Cannon and the mash up Mozaik, but in both cases the mixes were cut down in length due to restrictions with the 7" format. So now we have this exclusive 12" version, which not only allows for the full length versions of those classic tracks, but also allows us to add the much requested Gothika Shade remix of Disturbance to the EP as a whole!

Coming correct with a heavily garnished follow-up to his first drop of neo-junglist delicacies, Skins is back with a second volume of Sauce Direct. The name tells you all you need to know about the school of breakbeat science he's coming from, but the learned craft of drum edits is offset by a mischievous thirst for disruption, presenting the matter on this platter as a stand-out serving on the plentiful menu of modern-day jungle.

'Strictly Hardcore' brings together the heavy weather of quintessential dub techno with deft, stepped breaks for a brooding heads down tear-out while 'Lost In The Sauce' revels in vintage synth melancholia as a unique backdrop to Skins' own brand of rabid Amen chops.

'Reaper's Kiss' switches stance with some heavy sub wobble and the teased flicker of Apaches in a patient half-time roll out of serious soundsystem reverence. There's space for some snappier breaks in the second half, but this cut is testament to Sauce Direct being a space for wider ideas beyond textbook jungle.

'Double Dose' keeps the stylistic dexterity on lock with a swerve towards trance-speckled lead lines, deployed with a necessary restraint to play nice on top of the nimble breaks. It's an approach which could be so easily overcooked - in Skins' hands the balance of flavours is on point, capping off another essential round in this must-check series of white label delicacies for heads with real taste.

Das zweite Album von Runnner, A Welcome Kind of Weakness, entstand aus einem gleichzeitigen Riss im Körper und im Leben des Songwriters Noah Weinman. Während der Monate, die er im Bett verbrachte, um sich von einem Achillessehnenriss und dem drastischen Umbruch einer Trennung zu erholen, schrieb er die 11 Songs auf diesem Album, die Weinmans stärkste sind und die vermeintliche Verletzlichkeit des Albumtitels bereitwillig aufnimmt. Aber zur gleichen Zeit sind diese Songs die präsentesten von Runnner, trotzig und selbstbewusst, eine Erinnerung an die Entschlossenheit, die aus der anmutigen Unterwerfung entstehen kann. Langjährige Fans von Weinman haben sich wahrscheinlich in seinen unverkennbaren Indie-Rock verguckt, der fast ausschließlich in Schlafzimmern und Heimstudios aufgenommen wurde, wo seine ergreifenden und selbstironischen Texte über Banjos, Gitarren und hallenden Bläsern schweben, die sich zu kathartischen Gipfeln steigern. Aber auf A Welcome Kind of Weakness erhebt sich Weinman zum ersten Mal in High Fidelity. Wield packs a lot of details, which are fun to uncover over repeated plays. «Collider» is almost completely driven by high precision tapping leads, which are ingeniously mirrored by the chords on the final climax. «The Crush» sees the band's three guitarists chugging away happily over a clever 7/8 rhythm subtly exchanging thrashy, sludgy and prog-inspired stylings. Nevertheless, Wield is still an affair of instant gratification for fans of guitar driven post-rock. Haunting, discordant and deeply unsettling, `Les Maîtres Fous' (`The Mad Masters') was written by French post-metal collective Year of No Light in response to French filmmaker Jean Rouch's controversial 1950's docufiction of the same name. Commissioned by Musée Du Quai Branly in Paris for their 2012 `L'Invention Du Sauvage' exhibition, trance-metal pioneers Year of No Light approached the ritual practices of the Hauka movement as depicted in the film and responded with their uniquely hypnotic heaviness. Performed only twice, once at the exhibition on the 6th January, 2012 and again in Bordeaux on the 29th January, 2015; this release is a live recording of the second and final performance of `Les Maîtres Fous'. Whilst Year of No Light have a long history of collaboration with forward-thinking filmmakers and visual artists, the sensitivity of this documentary's problematic subject matter and the intensity of the band's performance made this performance both a physically and emotionally demanding experience; something that can be keenly felt upon listening. Founded in September 2001 by a collection of Bordeaux's heavy scene stalwarts as an ongoing side project encompassing elements of sludge metal and shoegaze, Year of No Light released their debut album, Nord, in 2006 to critical acclaim. The subsequent years however saw a significant lineup change with the band replacing their vocalist with a third guitarist to become a fully instrumental sextet incorporating aspects of black metal, drone electronica and dark ambient into their already formidable sound. 2010's four track epic Ausserwelt and the 2013 follow up Tocsin saw Year of No Light distilling their punishing sound even further; stalling the tempo to a glacial crawl and tuning guitars ever downwards to new uncharted depths. Consolamentum, the band's first full-length release in nine years and their first with Pelagic Records, brought the outfit's crushing double-drumming percussion to the fore as a masterclass in dynamic control saw Year of No Light embrace the highest highs and the lowest lows of the intervening years. Now approaching their 25th anniversary, `Les Maître Fous' is a pressing reminder that, despite the band's long and ongoing journey, Year of No Light have never been afraid to experiment, to take risks, to square up to life's ugliness and look it straight in the eye. THE DARK FLOWERS release their second album `INDIAN SUMMER' with Paul Statham bringing together a unique collection of collaborators, JIM KERR, GABRIELLA CILMI, DAVID J, THE ANCHORESS and SHELLY POOLE in June 2025 on Loki Records via Cargo.With 2014 debut album. `Radioland', songwriter and producer Paul Statham brought together a group of guest vocalists for a collection inspired by Sam Shepard's `Motel Chronicles'. Featuring an all-star cast of Jim Kerr, Peter Murphy, The Anchoress, Shelly Poole, Dot Allison, Kate Havnevik and Helicopter Girl, the album was characterized by MOJO as "a perfect album for a lonely winter night" (4/5). The new album sees Statham, a member of Post Punk band B-Movie, and co-writer with a host of well-known artists including Dido, Kylie, Peter Murphy and Simple Minds retain his principal role in the project as both producer and songwriter. Once again, Shepard's prose plays a key role with `Hawk Moon', the companion volume to `Motel Chronicles', an additional source of inspiration. Jim Kerr from Simple Minds continues his involvement with 3 tracks as does Welsh songwriter and multi-instrumentalist The Anchoress. David J from Bauhaus/Love and Rockets is also a featured artist along with Gabriella Cilmi turning in 2 dark and beguiling tracks. The project is completed with Shelly Poole (from country/folk band Red Sky July and a long-time friend and co-writer on 3 songs.

With releases on Underground Status London, BaDumTish, Fresh Milk and Statewide Swing, among others, S.R. has been helping to define the US-based UK Garage scene over the last few years. S.R. Volume 3 marks the 5th anniversary of this white-label series and his first 4-track 12" release. Conceived in the early months of 2025, S.R. Volume 3 draws inspiration equally from UK Garage and techy Drum and Bass to create a dancefloor-focused record that firmly captures 21st century tension.

After the explosive Comme à la radio, infused with the free jazz energy of the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Brigitte Fontaine and Areski Belkacem released six albums together or separately between 1972 and 1977. Their music, often stripped down to voice, guitar, and percussion-or performed a cappella-stood in stark contrast to the orchestrated French pop of the time. This minimalist and spontaneous approach highlighted the poetic power of the lyrics and the intimacy of the melodies, earning them recognition in the counterculture and underground scenes. By the end of the 1970s, Fontaine sought to make her work more visible without losing its originality. The Baraka album marked this transitional moment, initially recorded in a home studio without external musicians. Its title (meaning "blessing" in Arabic) hinted at a desire for success. Mixing introspection, absurd humor, and bold stylistic choices, the album was technically ambitious, featuring stereo duets and layered vocals, and lyrically rich, tackling everything from metaphysical themes to playful nonsense. However, the project ultimately veered off course. After moving the recordings to the massive Studio Davout and bringing in producer and guitarist Martial "Mimi" Lorenzini, the album lost its original intimacy. Overproduced arrangements clashed with the simplicity of Fontaine and Belkacem's initial intent, resulting in an album-renamed Les églantines sont peut-être formidables-that the artists later disowned, refusing to allow its commercial release. Recently rediscovered demo tapes, stripped of their bombastic layers, reveal the raw, emotional core of the songs-showcasing the duo's voices with a rare authenticity. These recordings bridge a missing link in their discography, between their experimental lo-fi years and their later, more accessible work. Decades on, Fontaine and Belkacem remain defiant originals, never settling into a formula, always evolving, and continuing to shake the foundations of French chanson.

'Transplant Rejection’ is the work of Estonian artist and IDA Radio co-founder Robert Nikolajev, this collection of seven ‘almost’ dark ambient tracks embody the melancholy of autumn whilst hinting at the forthcoming eternal winter. A man with many hats, Nikolajev operates on the fringes of the leftfield house underground for labels such as Incienso, Collect-Call and Sad Fun as well as being one half of the sporadic DIMA DISK act with Ragnar Rahouja. Eschewing the more rhythmic side of his productions for this Muscut tape, Nikolajev taps into the fictional soundtrack atmospheres the label is known for and brings his own brand of wistful, introspective world-building by way of machine harmony to the now Tallinn based imprint.

There’s a lo-fi, grainy quality running throughout the collection, a kind of sepia-toned nostalgia that envelops the listener and disorientates any perception of time or place. Buried vocal fragments sit in the mix on ‘Stifled’ alongside decaying synthesiser drones whilst ‘DDM’ channels an edgy post-rock dirge with its use of sagged bass guitar. Overall, an inspired look into the more ‘at home’ side of this increasingly prolific Estonian artist.
