The definition of the word 'fado' is technically 'fate', though the Portuguese meaning bound up with this term is more complex. The music itself can be fairly closely compared with that of Greek rebetika - also the American blues or the original working-class tango music of Argentina and Uruguay - and similarly takes it's common subject matter from the various cruel realities of the world. Though perhaps what distinguishes fado in character is it's often poised acceptance of the pains of life rather than protestation or resistance - as writer Paul Vernon says "It speaks with a quiet dignity born of the realisation that any mortal desire or plan is at risk of destruction by powers beyond individual control"

Death Is Not The End compile here a spine-tingling collection of fado recordings, taken from records issued in the mid 1910s through to the 1930s. The fado's Lisbon and Coimbra variants are presented here by some of the music's earliest recorded stars - spanning a time period leading up to the emergence of the fado's all-conquering star, Amália Rodrigues.

Fellow Rome techno figurehead Adiel debuts on Spazio Disponibile with some heavy heavy low frequency cuts. Setting the tone is the title track, a tongue in cheek laugh in your face. Originally conceived as a D.J. mixtape dedicated to friends and the time spent with them in the morning hours after the parties over (or beginning) - it quickly morphed into a soft focused meditation on all things warm and intangible.

Raising the stakes on an already bulletproof discography, Black Yukon Sucker Punch returns to drum and bass with "Casino" and "Weathervane", his most unforgiving neurofunk to date.

For the third instalment of Liechtenstein‘s Silum Records, CCO presents another quality 12“ featuring his signature Detroit-infused sound. The tracks boast classic drum machine beats combined with jazzy chords and tasty leads leaving no feet standing still.

The interstellar electronics are once more pushed to the fore on closer '80 Axes', where jaunty synth lines combine with soft bongo hits to create an instinctive rhythm, and intergalactic melodies sprint between the speakers. You can dance if you want to, but lying down is very much encouraged.
As part of the label's mission to champion Dutch talent, Voyage Direct has always promoted new, up and coming, and little-known producers. Boss Tom Trago's master plan includes building a family of artists, in part through helping unheralded local producers to fulfill their potential.

On the label's latest release, he continues that approach, serving up a debut 12' from a mysterious young producer known only as Darling. Those paying close attention to the wider Dutch house and techno scene may have spotted his recent rework of Awanto3's 'Star Butchers' on Dekmantel, in which the man or woman of mystery added some killer keys to the Amsterdam legend's woozy, deep house original.

While that rework was undoubtedly superb, Jacob's Lead offers a truer reflection of the shadowy producer's previously hidden talents. As debut EPs go, it's a bit of a cracker.

The title track, in particular, is a beauty. Its' restless, hypnotic rhythm tips a wink to classic Dutch techno of old, while the undulating, analogue electronics and swirling pads recall the far-sighted retro-futurism of vintage Motor City material. Throw in some of Darling's trademark spine-tingling keys and a deliciously loved-up breakdown, and you have a choice chunk of life-affirming techno.

On the flip, Darling heads towards deeper territory with the bubbling melodies, starburst electronics and saucer-eyed chords of 'Video'. Unashamedly positive in sound and intent, it sounds like the kind of track that will be cited as a classic in two decades time. Melodious and infectious, it casts Darling as the Netherlands' answer to Larry Heard.

In 2021, we welcomed Endrik Schroeder to the Bordello family with his Second Breath 12”. The memorable hooks and attention to detail that characterised his first appearance run deep in his latest. The Hope sees the French producer accompanied by a true legend of electronics, Caroline Hervé aka Kittin. Hervé’s penchant for combining brighter tones with darker shades is evident from the needle. Industrial hiss pierces swirling vocals. Clean claps, warm bass and crystalline chords give way to woe-streaked lyrics, lyrics that ascend into an arc of pulsating synthwave pain. A driving force in the local underground for over two decades, Fragedis is renowned for his eclectic, genre-blending, DJ sets and productions. Staying loyal to the craft and deeply committed to the culture, he is also co-hosting Healthy Summer in Crete, one of Greece’s most revered festivals for authentic rave culture.

This release features six tracks that perfectly encapsulate FERMA’s sound identity and forward-thinking vision. The A-side opens with “Teras”, an atmospheric piece with immersive vocals that lay the foundation for the journey ahead. “Thrust Reverse” cranks up the intensity with industrial-driven arpeggios, primed to ignite the dancefloor. Closing out the first side is a stripped-down reprise of “Teras”, reimagined by a legendary artist who has shaped the Athenian industrial sound – true name strictly confidential.

Flipping to the B-side, “Live in Lies” drifts into deeper territory, weaving atmospheric pads and trancey synth sequences for introspective, eyes-down moments. Bringing it all home, “Fasaries” delivers an electro spinoff that rounds out the release’s sonic character and journey.

The catalog of Discomagic’s sublabel Sensation Records is a true treasure chest of surprises. Rare gems sought after by collectors, whose prices on the secondary market often exceed €100, €200, and sometimes even €500. Once again, Vintage Pleasure Boutique reaches into this vault of highly coveted obscurities. This time, the focus is on SNS 8017.

It is one of the cult productions by Raffaele Fiume, revered, cherished and long admired mainly thanks to the distinctive vocal presence of Giusy Ravizza. Upon its original release in 1984, the record did not achieve major commercial success. However, with the resurgence of Italo disco, the rise of the internet, discussion forums, collector communities, online marketplaces and web radio stations, places where fans and collectors gathered to rediscover forgotten tracks, “Light” gradually emerged as a highly desirable, much-loved and increasingly hard-to-find title.

Once again, Vintage Pleasure Boutique steps in to meet the expectations of all those who wish to own a vinyl copy of Giusy Ravizza – “Light.” This is not the original Italian pressing with the SIAE stamp on the label, but it sounds absolutely excellent.

Kasper Marott is featured on the second release by Courtesy’s imprint Kulør, a label whose introduction to Copenhagen’s fast techno scene, Kulør 001, contributed a long-sought spin on contemporary techno. With his Forever Mix EP, Marott offers a 14-minute musical expedition through the slower-paced “Drømmen om Ø (Forever Mix ‘19)” and a personal take on his hometown’s accelerated blue euphoria with the floor-crushing “Sky Dreams”.

Kulør is proud to present My Space – Kasper Marott’s 2nd record for the label following 2019’s luscious, longform Forever Mix EP.

The EP represents the latest addition to a diverse but uniquely crafted discography for the Danish producer, DJ and label owner. After scoring something of a mega-hit in 2018 with ‘Keflavik,’ released on Modeselektor’s Seilscheibenpfeiler label and named by Resident Advisor as “one of the biggest club records of the year,” Marott would use that momentum to launch the community-focused label Axces alongside close friend Alfredo92 and release a string of records representing some of Denmark’s finest producers. At the beginning of 2021 Marott released his debut album Full Circle, allowing a more complete picture of his distinctively melodic sound, one described by Pitchfork as “stimulating the imagination as much as the limbs… This is music for dancing but also music for dreaming.”

The four pieces that make up the My Space EP seem to take that last quote as a jumping- off point, oscillating between the beatless serenity of ‘Mosens Tone’, the unashamed force of ‘NV Laser’ and the shades in between on the opening title track and closer ‘Microfest’. Marott’s influences snake over one another, folding crisp percussion underneath his signature glassy textures and intimate field recordings alongside supersaw riffs. This fluid shape-shifting results in an EP that hints at different genres while confining itself to none.

Kurtiss is a shadowy and enigmatic figure working on the boundaries of civilization. A sporadic figure on the House music scene with eccentric habits, Kurtiss’ music is a rarified sonic experience for those who seek it out. The Ameri-can artist is hard to pin down and his music is a tantalizing little secret only for adept diggers who appreciate the style of Hi-Def House music that the artist has cultivated. Although he’s a known Soundcloud fixture, he’s only put out a handful of digital singles as Curtis Vodka in the past, with Mutual Intentions facilitating his latest and immortalizing his music on their next set of releases. A nomadic artist, who’s worked on music ranging from Ghetto Tech to House, his music has spanned the known musical spectrum, forging uncanny relationships with everything from 50 Cent to Mall Grab. Under the pseudonym Kurtiss (or Curtis Vodka), he’s all about HIGH-Fi House, life, aliens, Jazz and no trends. It’s an attitude that he lays bare on this rare contribution to the physical, recorded format for Mutual Intentions on ‘The Curtis Vodka EP’. The EP weaves classic House music influences through a penchant for vintage sound machines and arrangements that evoke a solemn air. Elements of Gospel and New York’s deeper inclinations in House music seep through his sound as archived vocal samples and noisy machines give his work its defining character. On his new album always centered at night, moby has once again conjured into reality a collection of heartachingly beautiful, tender-yet-defiant songs, made in collaboration with uniquely talented, soulfully aware, other-worldly vocalists. All the songs are love letters to the unrestricted and enchanting music scene of late ‘70s, early ‘80s New York that shaped Moby as a musician. The featured vocalists were given the same assignment: “Please don’t write anything commercial. Let it be weird. Let it be personal. It doesn’t have to make sense.”

“Because of that randomized freedom, I’ve been on the receiving end of so much genius work,” says moby. “And the result has been one of the most exciting, surprising things I’ve ever done as a musician, and it’s one of the most worthwhile things a human being can do: make tender, gentle, vulnerable music that’s a clarion call to act.”

Featured on this album are some of the most exciting vocalists of our time. Some are well-known - such as serpentwithfeet on the breathless daydream of a song ‘on air’, the jazzy soulstress Lady Blackbird on the haunting ‘dark days’, or the astounding poet and activist Benjamin Zephaniah on ‘where is your pride?’. Other contributors have been found in relative obscurity - such as friend and vocalist Brie O’Banion on the Cream cover ‘we’re going wrong’, or Sheffield poet laureate Danaé Wellington on the powerful ‘wild flame’.

Nick Viola is a versatile electronic music producer known for his distinctive blend of industrial and techno music, drawing inspiration from a wide range of influences spanning from the gritty sounds of powernoise to the pulsating energy of techno.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Nick began his musical journey immersed in the industrial club scene, where he cut his teeth performing at the legendary Los Angeles industrial club Das Bunker. Here, he honed his craft and developed a deep appreciation for the raw, aggressive textures of industrial music. As the driving force behind the project Fractured Transmission, he made a name for himself with his uncompromising approach to power and rhythmic noise, earning recognition for his intense live performances and relentless sonic assaults.

However, Nick was always drawn to the rhythms and sounds of techno, and in a bold move, he embarked on a new chapter in his musical career, transitioning from the abrasive sounds and rhythms of powernoise to recontextualizing those sounds into a more techno landscape. Ninja was a niche Italo disco project formed by Cristina Peri (vocalist, composer and producer) and Enzo Benetti (DJ and producer). Together they managed to compose and produce only a handful of tracks, three of which were released under the Ninja moniker. Their collaboration resulted in a highly distinctive synth-pop sound, marked by a rock-leaning drum approach with a strong, metal-sounding snare, and melodic lines that deliberately avoided obvious, immediate catchiness.

The unique and “super obscure Italo treasure” reissued by Vintage Pleasure Boutique, titled “Mad About Love,” carries an additional point of interest: Pier Michele Bozzetti, better known as Miko Mission, was also involved in the production. “Mad About Love” is a rare and collector-sought track that has never been reissued before. With this new vinyl release, Vintage Pleasure Boutique once again steps forward with an archival initiative, hoping to bring genuine excitement to underground Italo fans and collectors alike.

Originally issued in 1996 and now re-pressed for the first time by A.R.X. and Krisis Publishing, Pressure of Speech ''Our Common Past, Our Common Future'' remains one of the best-kept secrets of 1990s British electronica. Founded by Mickey Mann, together with fellow explorers Luke Losey (lighting designer for Orbital) and DJ Stika (already part of Spiral Tribe), their elusive second album is an obsidian relic of screwed ambient techno, mutant breakbeat and hypnotic radical sounds excavated from the goldmine of the UK's post-rave underground.

Occult Vision; a new LP based imprint, offers a space for artists to share a more complete body of their work. We create windows into the deeper, alternative and often more authentic sounds of carefully selected artists. It's rare a producer in the underground house and techno scene has this type of platform and Occult Vision aims to fill the void. Our first album is from one of Frankfurt's finest producers, Frank Heinrich. Within this struggling continent there were those who saw the hand of authoritarianism at the wheel, past criminals ruling and lands being led back to dictatorship. Like a non-local entanglement between Lisbon, Sheffield, The Hague and somewhere in the American Midwest, 'Gastric Pulse' EP opens with a saturated, modulated acid line over a tight, industrial-tinged techno beat, peppered with sonic dirt of the highest order. It sounds like music projects like Downwards and Mathematics would put out. 'Enzyme Breaks' follows suit with a comparably raw spirit, adding some mysterious atmospheric scintillation and drum variations. A certain recluse techno (is that a thing?) comes to mind (and heart), Unit Moebius style. Toms abound in 'Pepsin Drive' - always a promising sign in our book - and the playfulness continues in the cheeky bassline and the intricate clap work. Soulful stabs give the tune extra magic via the mantra-like structuring power of repetition. The final track in the record comes from Pacific North-West transplant Doc Sleep and her collaborator Elias FS step in for remix responsibilities and flip the B1 into a hypnotic, dubby - and yes, jazzy - piece complete with a dive into glitchy, sonic sculpture territories towards the end of the arrangement. Quite the brilliant take. Music still counts (and always will), after all is said and done - and nothing like two hard-working music-makers to remind us of that.
