Toby Tobias has been at the coalface of the British leftfield house movement for many years now, releasing, without fuss or fanfare, on an array of fine releases for labels such as ESP Institute, Delusions Of Grandeur, Rekids and many more.

Tobias opens up Futureboogie’s 2020 account with ‘Trippy Steve’, a trio of spaced out dance cuts, which come complete with a remix from Fantastic Man. ‘Trippy Steve’ blends energetic and raw disco rhythms with wide eyed and transcendental deepness, a powerful dubwise bassline that really drives the energy here. Australia’s Fantastic Man (Superconcious Records), keep’s the proceedings
lively on his remix here, a rasping b-line and rolling beats thrust forward at a pace, dubbing out the vocal samples and opening up the bass for some wiggy acid business.

‘Cosmic Slang’ charmingly chugs with reverb soaked piano chords and ascending synths, whilst ‘Deo Mort’ is loose and carefree, with a myriad of classic samples cropping up amongst fragmented beats and a cap doffed towards the Sheffield bleep sound of old.

More new members in the Toy Tonics family: JOEL HOLMES & CODY CURRIE joined the Berlin crew. They will release a couple of EPs.

You might know Joel Holmes: American jazz pianist and keyboard player who has been member of Roy Hargrove’s legendary Grammy nominated band, but also is part of Carl Craig’s synthesizer ensemble. Joel is living in Berlin now, where he is involved in the new vibrant Neo-Jazz scene. (Yes! Berlin used to be a Techno city, but it’s becoming kind of a Jazz town now!)
In Berlin Joel throws monthly jam sessions (the Urban Base Jam) where the creme de la creme of Berlin ex-pad jazz musicians meet up. Americans, Europeans... Crazy things can happen here. Like when Erykah Badu played Berlin in 2019 and her complete band came to jam at Joel’s session after their gig.

Joel now takes the next step: he teamed up with Cody Currie: 24 year old London born talent, who already made some waves in the house scene. Cody is known as a stylized producer, with a unique recognisable sound. Much of his craft was owned in studying a bachelors in music in London. His most known work by now might be a jazzy reinvention of ‘Devils Shoestring’ with over half a million plays on SC and YT. With his new works Cody is coming away from sampling, working only with live instrumentation.

Joel & Cody both live in Berlin now where they met Toy Tonics head honcho Mathias „Kapote“ Modica. And when they met there was a vibe. All three have their roots in jazz music share similar ideas about how dance-music should evolve and could sound in 2020. (In fact Kapote Modica studied jazz piano, too and has been playing in bands before getting into electronic music)

Joel & Cody are working in a great Berlin basement studio, at Cody’s home. Working on a new way of combining jazz-funk with real musicianship, MPC grooves and live instruments to get a new, fresh approach on dance music. And there will be a lot coming up in the next years

Sfire 1 was the incarnation of Sfire. I met Sophie at a Motherland show in 2008 (Sophie and Marcella's berlin based band). I suggested she make a dance version of a song they played and she asked me to come to the studio to help produce it. She had heard me djing many times and was a fan. We became good friends and made a few more tracks along the years. we hope to make more soon.
As for me I've been a dj since i was 16. Grew up in Detroit. Fell in love with underground 80's music (house italo freestyle) and have been djing regularly since.

Futureboogie unearth more dancefloor magic with next signing The White Lamp and their first single 'It's You' - a perfect rendering of electronic soul for 2012. World-class talent Ron Basejam of Crazy P fame and the unstoppable Eats Everything with Futureboogie staple Christophe provide the remixes. Not even we know who the Producer and DJ are for this release on FB however they are both stars in their own right and have come together as The White Lamp.

A Producer & DJ from London and a Musician & Vocalist from Bristol have joined their creative forces to create The White Lamp. A project for the soul & for the dance floor, expect several high calibre releases throughout 2012.

Opening track 'In The B' kicks off proceedings in no uncertain fashion. It's 100% wall shaker material, the type of techno music best paired with strobe lights and towering speaker stacks. It mesmerises with its low-slung undulating bassline and Detroit rhythms before giving way to some riotous old school Essex stabs and sharp claps. No messing, this is a certified 3 AM red light burner! Track 2 'Chocolate Biscuit' accelerates proceedings! Beginning with unfussy drums and a robotic, bleep-heavy melody driving it off into a wonderfully off-kilter direction. Its arpreggio'd rhythms may be brutish and wrestle a growling sense of menace out of the track, but the overall feel, however, suggests considerable care and attention has been paid to make it sound this way. There's clearly an uncommon musicality at play here to make something this complex feel so simple.
The BPM drops next on 'Jenny's Hall' but from the offset, there's enough funk and thrust in the motorised synth line to get bodies gently grooving without the beauty getting lost in the slower loop. This is blissed out, psychotropic techno - the kind of track where it feels like you're floating and falling at the same time, but all the while making sure you still remain fit for purpose on the dancefloor. Ian Blevins takes on remix duties this time and the Berlin-based DJ/producer offers up a sleek peak-time banger that fizzes, bubbles and percolates. He gives the rhythm on 'Jenny's Hall' less space to swing and ties it to a tight motorik beat turning it into a slice of shiny, modern techno but with extra shoulder-checking force. Its vibe drawing from a sense of outsider-party fun with a wry smile, and a knowing wink running throughout before bringing the package to a suitably left of field crescendo.

Jeremy Campbell and R. Zanzibar return as Out 2 with their debut full length, Showcase. Following their recent Moving EP, the duo expand their mix of New York off-kilter pop lyrical poetics riding over percussive desk-dub funk grooves.

After collaborating on releases for Lectric Sands and L.I.E.S (Zoovox and Locks & DDM) the Brooklyn team dug deep in the studio to create 6 vocals and their dub versions in a true 'showcase' style.

With that, after its appearance in longer 'discomix' form, the album starts with the original version of Moving. Just under 3 minutes of hectic New York funk - chop guitar, punch bass and blasting horn jump ups. Rolling straight to the Version, Campbell's mixing desk skills let it all hang out and back. Snares rattle, hats ride, bass in and out, a voice rightly interjects "...are we moving".

Sliding in to Dancing, the tryptamines start to flow and skip atop a steppas beat. The "raps", dubs and fx weave their way in to your subconscious as electrons whirl in a warm psychedelic fuzz. This is further exemplified in side closer, Pale Fens. The improvised vocals fit seamlessly among the beats, bass and guitar haze. As the skin, lips, eyes, pull you in, the Version takes it deep. Sole guitar solo and the rest rides from the desk. Perry, Bovell, Sherwood. The beauty in the space between is the essence of music itself.

Side 2 starts with a crowning gem, Some Air's Red There. Flute rides a hook that is simplicity in its ingenuity. Zanzibar in his wayward element "...she said I had the wrong rhythm". By now ears twisted to what the Version brings, the laidback vibes, with wind solo, drift to an Upstate/White Isle summer's day that is long remembered.

Don't Stop comes on as a No NYC love paean. Congas, rhythm guitar and impro' lyrical flow, contorting bass, flange, flange, flange. "Run all day, we don't stop". Version just glides and glides. Finally, to close, Run is the lazy finale dub (master)piece. A simple Jammy's style riddim; a midi-funk groove. It swings low alongside lyrical imaginings, encapsulating Out 2's place in the New York firmament, where disco, punk, hip hop were and are very much fellows with the often overlooked, but amazing dub reggae that has been produced in the city for decades.

Over the past couple of years German producer Tim Bernhardt, aka Satin Jackets, has established himself as one of the biggest names on the nu-disco scene, clocking up more than 25 million streams of his debut 2016 album 'Panorama Pacifico' on Spotify alone. Earlier this year, Tim compiled 'Diamonds Are Forever', a 7 track mini-album of re-mixed and re-mastered tracks from the early days of his career.

"I had been chatting with some fans on Facebook about the first Satin Jackets productions and we realised that there were quite a few tracks that, for various reasons, were no longer available anywhere" explains Tim. "So I dug through my back catalogue, making a list of some gems from around 7 - 8 years ago, then revisited each track to give them a little nip and tuck and apply the benefit of almost a decade's more experience. Honestly it's been an experience to revisit these tracks and reminisce on the stories around them as they all helped shape Satin Jackets into what it sounds like today."

Four of these tracks get a vinyl release now on Tim's very own imprint.
The A-side opens with the synth-pop anthem 'Hollywood' that helped put the Satin Jackets sound on people's radar back in 2012. It features a rare occurrence of Tim's alter ego Eric Cozier on vocal duty. 'Got To Be Love' is a chilled and laid-back instrumental track that also appeared on the highly successful 'Milchbar' series of fellow German Chill and Balearic producers 'Blank & Jones'.

The B-side starts with 'Olivia' that went into high rotation on US wide satellite radio SiriusXM while 'Latin Jackets' rounds off the picture with one of the earliest Satin Jackets tracks ever which also opened up the live shows around the world on many occasions.

Manchester-based producer, DJ, So Flute Co-Founder and radio host, Yadava debuts on Omena with "Earth Tones".

Just like his previous music released on fine labels such as Ad Hoc Records, Church and Banoffee Pies, Yadava is offering an unique twist on melodic and rhythmic jazz influenced music that highlights his growth as an artist.

Mr Beatnick's Mythstery imprint returns with a two track 12" for the collectors, purpose-built to wreck your discoteque. Side A features a speaker-crushin' Bollywood refix by Breakplus, fresh off the back of his iconic mini-album "Instant Bull". Side B finds Mr Beatnick making his Mythstery debut with an acid slow-burner, a lazer-lit dystopian rollerskating jam. Artwork by Optigram, limited to 300 copies.

Two soaring love songs from DJ Rogers, 'Love Brought Me Back' backed by 'Love You Forever', remastered and reissued on South Street's new disco reissue arm. With original's trading hands for upwards of £70 it's high time a reissue dropped of these classic cuts.

'Love Brought Me Back' sweeps in first as gentle chimes and whirling winds blend with a delicate bassline and staccato strings that open up to behold Rogers' powerful prowess on the mic. Influenced and honed in the church, there's a spirituality to the delivery that few can match. An honesty and warmth resound in the arrangement with a definite dose of funk making this a sure-fire '70s soul hit that was big on the disco dancefloors.

On the B side the second of Rogers' sweet serenades, 'Love You Forever' marries clavinet chords and plucked live bass riffs with tender female harmonies, providing a perfect accompaniment to Roger's soothing tones. The ultimate end of the set song and a way to win over any hearts and minds that need to be swayed.

Two essential treasures fitting of the first reissue on South Street Disco!

G. Markus returns with two fresh edits after his first G-Edits release sold out and enjoyed heavy support from all sorts of discjockeys. '70s soul/disco is the flavour here with a legendary diva getting the treatment, with one big peak-time banger and a slo-mo chugger for good measure. Danvers helps thickens things up in the bass department with some live electric bass on both tracks.

Back with his third EP for Dave Harvey’s forward thinking Futureboogie label, Kiwi serves up three pulsating jams on ‘Charlie’s New Vision’, backed with a remix from Johnny Aux.

Drawing upon his many influences across the house/disco/funk spectrum, South London based Kiwi has been illuminating the more discerning dancefloors of late with a strong of releases for Cin Cin, Needwant and his own new label venture, Crossbreed.

A low-slung groove is explored on ‘Charlie’s New Vision’, incorporating tripped out film dialogue, bleeps and dubby tones, and a serpentine bass riff, all forging an off kilter yet infectious & hedonistic chugger. Johnny Aux follows up recent appearances on Man Power’s Me Me Me, Party Central, and Multi Culti with his own take on the lead track. Churning over a bleepy and epically transcendental remix of the highest order, this is the stuff of sunrises and enlightening moments!

The sprightly ‘Ghiaccio’ draws together a kaleidoscopic array of opulent synth melodies with an compelling rhythm, whilst ‘Italian Heat’ doffs its cap heartily to the Italo disco choons of yore that always strikes a potent chord to this day.

New York dance music royalty Louie Vega and The Martinez Brothers have joined forces on new single ‘Let It Go’, out 15th November via Cuttin’ Headz.

First featuring on The Martinez Brothers’ recent fabric presents mix, ‘Let It Go’ is a gloriously stripped-back dose of New York house. It features the nonchalant yet hypnotic vocals of San Francisco-born singer-songwriter Marc E. Bassy, who delivers a catchy hook that underpins the track. The record’s artwork has also been crafted by NYC graffiti legend Lee Quiñones, with its vintage style harking back to the golden era of the city’s music scene.

“We had been trying to get our schedules together so we can work and it finally came to fruition. Once we were in the studio we just gelled and complemented each other. Last winter in New York City during the holiday season we came up with some hot tracks, one was the music to ‘Let It Go,’” Vega explains.

“The Martinez Brothers were then in Los Angeles doing some recording sessions and they met up with Marc E. Bassy. Once they gave Marc the mic in the studio he just came with this super hot song on our track. I received the vocal stems, then myself and TMB got together and did some arranging on the vocals and this masterpiece was born!”

One half of legendary house duo Masters at Work alongside Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez, Louie Vega has previously collaborated with everyone from Luther Vandross, Gloria Estefan and Janet Jackson to Will Smith, Jamiroquai and Madonna. ‘Let It Go’ marks the second time he’s released a track with The Martinez Brothers, following last year’s single ‘Shut The Door’.

Previously citing Vega as a primary influence during their formative years, The Martinez Brothers were touring the world with the likes of him, Dennis Ferrer and Erick Morillo before they had even finished high school. In the years since the bros have become one of the hottest double acts in dance music, again making Ibiza their launch pad this summer and throwing Cuttin’ Headz parties on the White Isle for the first time.

With two generations of New York’s vibrant dance music scene joining forces on ‘Let It Go’, it’s little wonder the results are so slick.

Ralphi Rosario is a pioneer of house music, kicking off an influential DJ career in Chicago when he was still in high school. The remixes and productions that followed have garnered him #1 Billboard Dance Chart hits as well as more than 20 well-respected years spinning records. He's an artist who represents the ethos of Glitterbox Recordings, with decades of quality house music history woven into every beat. Also in line with the spirit of the label, 'Wanna Give It Up' is a classic track given some very tasteful modern updates, from Dr Packer and Jamie 3:26. The familiar 'Légo's Dub' from the original release is present and correct, alongside a suitably funked-up version from disco edits maestro Dr Packer. Finally, fellow Chicagoan Jamie 3:26 amps the party up a further notch with some irresistible clinking percussion and a lazy-cool groove.

Pacific Horizons are outliers, largely unconcerned with much that goes on beyond their LA studio. Immersed in their own universe of sound, the pair cherry pick from genres to create their own raw, lo-fi take on what, if you must pin it down, can be defined as loosely Balearic. The duo's sound calls on various eras of pyschedelia through the years. From the scene's roots to the very modern but always circles back to the initial shamanic intention of mind altering ritual. Drawing heavily on the raw and rugged West Coast for inspiration they posses a sound entirely indigenous to their locality and peers. This stark individuality has brought the project to the attention of such seminal characters as Francois K, Andrew Weatherall and David Mancuso. Pacific Horizons are drawn back down to earth again by Deus Records for a rare excursion away from their Pacific Wizard Foundation imprint, teeing up one side of an exclusive 7". On remix duty Peaking Lights provide the perfect foil. The fellow West Coast artists are kindred spirits in pushing against the norm but here bring some order to the release, segueing the raw ideas into a their own blissful, rolling Balearic experience. Equal parts melancholia and euphoria, Burning Stars Dub version is entirely complimentary to the original track, giving space and structure to some of the more volatile elements of the original. Anything Pacific Horizons put their name to exists to revel in the purity and energy of the original moment of creation, little if any editing is done once the song is whole, making them the perfect artists for this limited edition release full of spontaneity and ideas.

Roisin Murphy’s disco-hued ‘Incapable’, created in partnership with long-time collaborator DJ parrot, was met with universal acclaim when it was released in early June. A masterclass in effortless cool, shuffling house beats meets Murphy’s pirouetting vocal which moulds and morphs across 8 perfect minutes, whilst lyrically it brilliantly subverts the tropes of the traditional heartbreak lament. Alongside the original, the B side also offers his darker, deeper ‘PRT 3’ remix that puts a heady spin on the track, heavy on a shape-shifting, reverberating bassline in constant flux.

Balla et ses Balladins were one of Guinea's national 'orchestras' formed as a result of the newly elected President, Sékou Touré's 'authenticité' policy of the early 1960s, which sought to promote Guinea's cultural identity following independence from France in 1958. Gomori takes the scalpel to two cuts recorded during their years on the state-run Syliphone label, making good use of bandleader Balla's lively trumpet playing. The gently haunting 'Nyo' is taken on a stomping slo-mo chug with a head-nodding bassline and stuttering FX creating a shimmering effect on the tropical guitars, while the rousing horns of 'Wilikabo' are laid over with rasping synth bass for a punchy juxtaposition.
Sterns Edits is an official collaboration between African music stalwarts Sterns Music and London's Ben Gomori.

Paradise is the next single from the epic Jasper Street Co. album, featuring production by Baltimore’s finest and most esteemed House Music Heroes Teddy Douglas and DJ Spen of the Basement Boys. This is a cover of the seminal tune originally recorded by Change in 1981 and featuring the vocals of a young and unknown Luther Vandross. This updated version includes vocals by two legends in their own right Ten City lead singer Byron Stingily and Chic lead singer Norma Jean Wright.

The single includes a special edit by the renowned “King Of The Edit” Danny Krivit, along with remixes by two of Europe’s premier producer / artists Mark Knight & Michael Gray, who embellished the original disco keys that made this song such a classic but juiced up the percussion and bass to make it into something massive for today’s dancefloors. Also included in the package is the forward – sounding “Sunrise” remix by the Chicago-based and genre-bending DJ - Chrissy, along with an original album dub produced by The Basement Boys

Alan Abrahams aka Portable aka Bodycode is an artist very much defined by his past and his journey from South Africa to Paris via Berlin and Lisbon has seen him develop into a critically acclaimed producer, singer and video artist working with some of the biggest players in house and techno.Part of his constant drive to evolve and challenge himself, this autumn Abrahams launches new project RANGEr, teaming up with London label Waella's Choice for the debut release. The five tracks on Portable Presents RANGEr are a delicate mélange of jazz , soul and electronic and one of Abraham's most explicit nods to his South African roots.
On the A-side, the EP makes a steady start with 'Bazokonwaba' accompanied by a lullaby from South African a capella group Korus, hailing from the small township of Mbekweni in the Western Cape. They also feature heavily on the EP's most exuberant moment in 'Nomaliso' - already a favourite in Esa's recent Boiler Room - and the more languid B-side opener 'Indaba' with a choir of cowbells all harmonizing in unison. 'Reset' and 'Vessel' provide a self-reflective conclusion to the EP, holding their own as instrumentals with Cameroonian bass player Stan on bass and Parisian saxophonist Chisneg lending a hand on the latter.
