Four Disco bombs blurring the lines between edits and full blown reworks. Nobody does it like Joe.

A total of four killer dancefloor curveballs from Kampala, Uganda, performed and composed by the traditional mataali drum and vocal troupe Mubashira Mataali Group (pron: moo-ba-shee-ra). Esoteric and unusual although fantastically joyous to listen and dance to, the unbelievably tight multitude of percussionists provide the perfect backdrop for musician-come-filmstar Sulaiman Sulait to deliver his entrancing vocal performance with a strong islamic message at the heart.

Hong Kong-based, French-born artist Romain FX delivers a killer quartet for Exploited’s milestone 30th ;Shir Khan presents Black Jukebox’ release. With previous releases on labels like Fantastic Voyage, Fauve Records and 44100HZ Social Club and support for his music from DJ Harvey, Black Madonna, Tensnake, Erol Alkan and Red Axes, he comes with some serious pedigree.

‘A Fuego’ invokes the spirit of early Balearic house with its Latino vocal chants, sampled piano chords playing a triumphant progression, trumpet blasts and sweet chime melodies echoing around the soundscape. ‘Western Outlands’ continues the balmy feel with infectious woodblock melody trading blows with rubbery synth bass and euphoric melody aplenty. Close your eyes and you could be in the open-air era of Amnesia dancing to Alfredo. The authentic ‘80s synth refrains and tribal vocal loops combine in powerful fashion and make for another winner.

‘Jungle George’ somehow manages to rock a panpipe riff and old skool MIDI guitar notes without sounding crass — which is probably something to do with the taut electro bass groove and rolling bongo / conga rhythms that surround it. Rainforest recordings add a heady feel amidst the cool melodies. ‘Dancing In Hong Kong’ provides a madcap end to the EP, a cute little ‘80s electro-funk jam where jaunty keys, organ bass and a little city pop vibe rub up against each other.

Every so often Public Release takes a snapshot along their discography timeline, to pause and recognize the various artists that represent the past, present and future of where the label sits. The last such release was in 2016, and four years, twelve releases later it’s time for another marker. This EP pools together six exclusive tracks from their global family, some on the PR roster for the very first time. From the beautifully addictive melodies by Tendts and Metropolitan Soul Museum, brooding baselines and synths from Richard Sen and Tim Sweeney, to the ecstatic floor energy produced by Fran-key and Earth Boys, the range presented here is impressive. His productions illustrate his deep love of classic (but never cheesy) disco, and an ability to create surges of energy even on the most docile of dance floors.

London based Brazilian artist Laima announces the 12” vinyl release of ‘Disco Pregnancy’. The release follows from her double-vinyl debut album ‘Home’, released by DEEWEE last November. ‘Home’ is a striking proposition. It’s a package which features two records that are designed to be played simultaneously: Laima’s vocal and synth tracks on the ‘Tonal’ disc alongside Iggor’s beats on the ‘Rhythmical’ record. By syncing the two records listeners are offered an unconventional way to experience the music.

The ‘Disco Pregnancy’ 12” will be released on 6th March 2020 and for the first time features the combined Tonal + Rhythmical versions of album tracks ‘Disco Pregnancy’ and ‘Home’, all recorded, produced and mixed by Stephen & David Dewaele (Soulwax/2manydjs).

If It’s Love is a joyous celebration of a soulful house sound that came to prominence in the 90s, where vocals were the heart and soul of a record and the vibe was unashamedly positive. But more than being simply an homage, If It’s Love combines the heady, feel-good vibe of those classic records with production values of the present, delivering a timeless record that will more than hold its own on the sonically rich dancefloors of 2020.

Few modern house records champion original vocals, and even fewer can boast the incredible amount of talent involved in the writing and production of If It’s Love. Laura Davie is part of the House Gospel Choir, a live group and production team that have been performing their awe-inspiring shows around the world for the last six years, and have worked alongside the likes of Stormzy, The Kooks, Annie Mac, Riton, MNEK, Wretch 32 and Gorgon City. Meanwhile The Melody Men are three equally talented women - Amy, Dyanna and Lou – who have written, rapped and sung on house bangers from producers like Kideko, Mason and Tough Love.

Alongside a stellar line-up of vocalists, the track is even further enhanced by the talents of Davos on keys. He is renowned for his ability to play authentic riffs from the golden era of House and over a few years, he’s quickly risen to fame with his online viral video clips of him replaying 90s classics on his keyboard.

“With If It's Love I really wanted to produce a record that had the fundamental assets of all good song production: melody, hooks, meaningful lyrics and a great arrangement an art I feel is being lost right now in house music. So the challenge was to make a big, soulful, vocal house record – the kind that I fell in love with in the mid-90’s – but do it in such a way that would translate in the here and now. I also wanted to make a record that I could actually play at any point in one of my headline sets, as well as working in my soulful sets.

Throw' by Paperclip People is reissued, accompanied by LCD Soundsystem's sublime and inventive cover on the flip. Perhaps the best known release from Carl Craig's long-running alias, 'Throw' is instantly recognisable to the day; a joyous distillation of Craig's house, techno and disco nous, as a chugging, organ-led bassline leads to a sensational breakdown. Once a favourite of LCD Soundystem's live set, the flip of the record captures the now Grammy-winning US group performing a studio-recorded cover, one that instantly, naturally captures the original solid groove, while adding shades of their post-punk approach.

Here is ‘Vortex’....so when Michael Mayer listened to the demo, he tripped and banged his head on a cupboard. When he woke up he said...

“There's something about Rex The Dog that keeps my mind wandering back to the times when it all began for me. It was the early 80s, when young Michael first got exposed to the magic world of dance music. As much as these early sonic impressions (Stock, Aitken & Waterman, Italo Disco, Trevor Horn etc) still resonate in both Rex The Dog's and my current musical output, there's another aspect to those early days that sometimes tends to be forgotten. Do you remember the first time you saw coloured lights blinking, a blasting smoke machine and lasers cutting through the room? I was so fascinated by that first experience that I started spending all my spare time and pocket money on music and lights. My first self-made piece of disco equipment was a shoe box containing three speakers (ripped from old TVs and radios) and three LEDs that actually flashed to the beat of the sound. An achievement that made me proud as hell. Looking at Rex The Dog's self- made modular gear always opens a vortex of childhood memories.

So sehr diese frühen klanglichen Eindrücke (Stock, Aitken & Waterman, Italo Disco, Trevor Horn etc.) sowohl in Rex The Dogs als auch in meinem aktuellen musikalischen Output nachklingen, gibt es in diesen frühen Tagen noch einen weiteren Aspekt, der manchmal vergessen zu werden scheint. Erinnerst du dich an das erste Mal, als du farbige Lichter blinken sahst, eine sprühende Nebelmaschine und Laser, die den Raum durchschneiden? Ich war so fasziniert von dieser ersten Erfahrung, dass ich anfing, meine ganze Freizeit und mein Taschengeld für Musik und Licht auszugeben. But let's look back for a minute, because a lot has happened since Tom Bioly and Benjamin Fröhlich dusted off the mirror balls in Munich. Since the 1970s the city always had a reputation for being one of the world's disco capitals and Permanent Vacation took good care of this precious heritage being partly responsible for the new found love of Disco music and its variations such as BALEARIC, COSMIC, KRAUTROCK or PROTOHOUSE.
Back then Tom, who for several years had been working in the music business, was a regular at Play Records that was run by Benjamin, who had also been busy as a DJ and party promoter. Soon they became friends and discovered their astoundingly similar taste in music. The label name
PERMANENT VACATION also reflects the way the label came into
existence, since the its main concept was developed during pingpong
matches rather than at a conference table.
Already their first release, a compilation of the same name—'PERMANENT
VACATION'—, was celebrated as 'razor-sharp, pulsating, pornographic, all
fuses opening crazy pop' by one of Germany's leading daily newspaper
Süddeutsche Zeitung.
Taking off from here Permanent Vacation managed to become one of the
flagships of the new movement and had several genre-defining hits with the
reissue of Antena's classic "Camino del Sol" album (even the Pet Shop
Boys claimed it as an influence) and the accompanying remixes.
Next up was the album "Miss Diamond to you" by singer Kathy Diamond,
produced by the wild boogie wizard Maurice Fulton. This album was
followed by multiple releases worth mentioning, many of which can be
called modern day disco classics by now: Tensnake's 'Coma Cat', which
entered the UK top 40, Azari & III 'Reckless with your love', albums by
Swedish Italo princess Sally Shapiro and by Vienna heartthrob Wolfram,
Jacques Renault's remix of Midnight Magic's 'Beam Me Up', 40 Thieves
'Don't turn it off', Todd Terje's 'Remaster of the Universe remix collection'

The sixth release from Hong Kong/Tokyo label Palms & Charms sees the return of Barnaby Bruce, and starts with a tale of daring escape.Hearing the approach of a loping synth, the protagonist checks the window: mysterious people are gathering outside his house! As a somewhat Gallic groove emerges, he and his girlfriend are in his car and heading south, driven on by the swing of the percussion. Will he find his deliverance On The Continent
Next up, Ruf Dug steps in with a spacious electronic reggae-esque remix, leading up to a killer piano line which pushes the groove straight onto the Autoroute. Ces't magnifique.
On the B-side, our erstwhile fugitive and partner awake by the side of a country road in southern France. A baguette, a bottle of wine and the sound of chattering insects. Oh, For The Cicadas!
As they head ever further south, they begin to reflect on what Other Worlds await them at journey's end. On the car radio a band plays a curious but driving blend of disco and percussion, with a distinctly house-influenced melody. Cette musique les deplace. After releasing their Yantar LP digitally last year, Hell Yeah now serve up a much anticipated vinyl version of Richard Somerville and Craig Wilson's perfectly horizontal sounds. It features two of the superb originals with remixes from The Beat Broker and Los Gatos Escobar.

Somerville & Wilson have appeared on ISM Records, DWDK (Danny Was A Drag King), Paper Records and Music for Dreams and count the likes of Tensnake and Gerd Janson as fans of their laidback and charming grooves, and this EP is a real slab of heat that will surely sizzle souls across the world this summer.

First up, The Beat Broker proves he is on fire right now with a remix of the classic 'Melt'. His heart swelling remix has impossibly mellow chords ringing out into a yellow-orange sky as melodies rise and fall like a yacht bobbing on gentle waters. It's a blissed out musical sunset of the highest order.

Then comes Somerville & Wilson's 'Cero Gravity', eight minutes of cosmic synth workouts, yawning chords and long legged drums offset by soft acid. Drenched in reverb and rippling out in all directions, it's a warm musical rush that keeps washing over you until your soul melts away.

From New York, Los Gatos Escobar duo offer a more driving but just as tropical remix of 'Yantar' with big rubbery drums, zoned out chords and smeared pads. It's beautifully innocent and honest, heartfelt and meditative music that encourages you to escape to a seaside paradise.

Last of all, a melted Space Edit of Yantar is drowned in saturated chords, scorched pads and heat damaged keys that leave you adrift in a sea of sumptuousness.

Music doesn't come much more majestic, melodic and mellow than this.

The fourth release from Palms & Charms sees the return of label co-owner Barnaby Bruce; ruminating on the perils of fine fabric care. We've all been there â€' a lengthy session on the dancefloor playing havoc with the pile of your velvet coat. Faced with this dilemma, Barnaby reaches for the battered volume, passed down through untold generations of his family, detailing archaic yet uncannily effective methods for extending the life of even the most exquisite textiles.
As he does so, the percussive jazz-tinged boogie of Sweat on Velvet takes over his mind, unleashing a wave of dancefloor euphoria. Not to be outdone, Pete Herbert (Reverso 68), unveils his own masterful fabric care techniques, providing a remix that will starch your collar and shake out the creases. Not the same clothes, but something brand new.
Freshly attired, Barnaby begins to notice curious and somewhat unsettling noises coming from the next room. He gingerly opens the door, and is confronted with a seance in full swing.
Strangers sitting around his dining table wait with baited breath for word from the other side. But the unearthly howling of tortured spirits is quickly silenced by the devilish groove of Seance Fiction. As the ARP makes its entrance, every soul is up and dancing.

Brit Funk at it's best! The 1981 classic Index - 'Starlight', that commands prices of up to £85, gets a much deserved and long-awaited, remastered reissue. A melding of genres, that incorporated elements of funk, disco, soul and jazz, Brit Funk harnessed a raw energy bubbling up in the UK scene through the late ‘70s & ‘80s. Index 'Starlight' is a prime example of this spirit. Timeless in it's makeup, glistening keys, full-frontal basslines and bold funk guitars give the foundation for those divine male and female vocals to sweep over.

Take to the B side for 'The Break' version leaving the vocals at bay and letting the exquisitely arranged instrumentation work the dancers into a frenzy. Favoured by everyone from Four Tet and Motor City Drum Ensemble to Gilles Peterson and DaM-FunK for its extended grooves and uninterrupted breaks, it's a Brit Funk bomb if there ever was one. ... A must for any discerning digger out there, this deserves a place in every collection!

Glitterbox are proud to announce the second single from Horse Meat Disco and founding member of Sister Sledge, Kathy Sledge. An apt follow-up to the stunning disco hit ‘Falling Deep In Love’, ‘Jump Into The Light’ embodies the same uplifting qualities and signature strutting style. Now, both these charming disco numbers will be available on a special 7” package. With both tracks co-produced by Classic Music Company boss Luke Solomon, who worked alongside Chris Penny and JKriv on ‘Jump Into The Light’, the nightlife champions display their expertise of dancefloor dynamics across the package, an exciting preview of things to come on their forthcoming LP later this year. Opening the release is ‘Jump Into The Light’, with its gloriously funky bass, rich instrumentation and perfectly timed hooks, the production forms a perfect backdrop to Kathy’s unmistakable vocal. Joey Negro’s edit of ‘Falling Deep In Love’ follows, a record that has enchanted Glitterbox dancefloors since its release. The second release of the label we are delighted to present you something special from the heart of Russia - handcrafted re-edits by the Moscow-based groove expert Lay-Far of Basic Fingers, GAMM & BBE fame.

The Finnish electropical ensemble Maajo is releasing their second full-length album "Kuru Kuru" on Queen Nanny records on March 2020. Three years after their sought-after debut, Maajo's African and Balearic influences now include more of the mysticism of Northern nature. The record resonates with a desire to connect across borders, and aspire to marvel at life on planet Earth. Live percussion, traditional balafons and kalimbas rattle and clang on top of drum machines and lively basslines. African High-life guitars dialogue with cheap vintage synths, electric pianos, birdsong, homemade flutes as well as the masterly vocalists: Senegalese Ismaila Sané, Zambian Waina and Beninese Akim Color.

The album begins upbeat with the drumming song Soma, followed by Esukey, a slice of Afro-pop cassette nostalgia with maestro Ismaila Sané on the vocals. A Song For Spring steers into mid-tempo funk, while Meje Ibo is a Turkish style 7-beat with West-African guitars and minimalist choir. The sparkly Ghana-inspired beach dancer Nkoranza and the acidy kalimba disco of Aamuapoltan head straight for the dancefloor, the midpoint of the journey.

Ismaila Sané's bonfire chant on Ito Urok leads the second half of the album on a nocturnal adventure. The hypnotic African mallets continue their work on the mysterious Jacana. Gbêmen Nayon is a ride down a flowing stream, while Akim Color sings a dirge. The percussive shamanistic hum-along trance of Yara Mantra points the way to the Waina-lead conscious dance anthem Lost Road.

'Wakusei' is wonderfully confusing and disorienting music, a follow-up EP to 2018’s critically acclaimed album 'Sunizm', not created specifically for life under lockdown, but nonetheless aptly suited to help release angst, guide meditation, and assist in making this moment in history more interesting if not transcendental. Whereas 'Sunizm' relied on field recordings gathered from rainforests, percussions learned from imaginary ancient civilizations, and the somehow organic freneticism of a mission control meltdown, the aesthetic of 'Wakusei' reduces this abstract instrumentation one step further to a more base-level array of gurgling synth scraps, accelerating engine friction and static-bound phonetic mistakes, all scrubbed into dust by a Brillo pad of white noise. The cliché of “great art is born out of hard times” is not lost upon us — of course the world will look back to this turmoil and its residual contributions to culture — but we see today's art as an immediate coping mechanism, and artists like Ground helping to unlock and navigate internal utopias. We’re already indoors, let’s delve inside.
