Fresh off of ‘Bobby’, Caserta and co. waste no time getting back in the kitchen to chef up another heat rock, simply titled ‘Luther’.

The Bridge crew take one of, if not the most recognizable voices in music and deliver 2 mixes dedicated to two of the most iconic eras of dance music. Caserta’s King Street Mix takes you back to the live drums and bass grooves of late 70’s early 80’s DISCO. While on the flip, the Henry Street Mix harkens back to the hard beats and synth stab of late 80’s to 90s HOUSE.

Listening to Marcella Bella's "Nell'Aria" (In the Air), immortal masterpiece of the Italian disco-music, it seems that the virus of spring 2020 took inspiration from this cult piece interpreted with sensuality by this versatile artist who often introduces in her songs innovative and provocateurs elements. The covid-19 is in the air we breathe and the song reads: "Air, I still breathe you know. In the air, I drive you away, but you are there. So much desire inside me. A fever that assails me, I feel so bad, Air, in the air ...! ". On the A side of this Popart reissue we find the "Classic Version" of 1985 - made by the Fonoprint recording studios in Bologna - and "Aria Latina", a refined video made in 2017 with the delicious arrangement, while on the flip is the 5-minute re-edit by Francesco Cicchini DJ. And now breathe please.

After a relatively quiet 2018, 2019 has seen Craig Bratley back on form with edits and remixes on Magic Wand, Secret Fusion, Wonder Stories and Rebirth. This first release on new label Automatism sees Bratley continue to develop the themes presented on his ep for Futureboogie. The first track, 'Ursa Minor', is straight up cosmic disco. The influences behind 'Dark Matter' are apparent on hearing the first four bars and should strike a chord with fans of Vangelis and Carpenter. 'Exquisite Corpse' was previously released on a Throne Of Blood compilation. Here we have the Zero Gravity Mix , mixed down again and with the drums removed, we are presented with a new perspective, providing more space and dare I say it 'Gravity' Beautiful. To finish the EP, 'Running To Paradise' sees Bratley in full on Balearic mode and will sound perfect sat by the Adriatic

Born and raised in South London, Hector Plimmer is a multi-faceted producer, composer and DJ whose sound is drenched in tribal rhythms and beautifully crafted bass. Influenced by beat-makers like Flying Lotus and Theo Parrish, but with the subtleties of the classic Metalheadz era drum and bass, his second album 'Next To Nothing' is released on 25th October 2019. The album features guests Ego Ella May, Emma-Jean Thackray, Andrew Ashong, Pie Eye Collective and Alexa Harley.

After featuring on Brownswood Bubblers 11, curated by Gilles Peterson, Hector proved his talent when he was selected as a winner of the PRS Steve Reid InNOVAtion award. At a performance at ‘Sounds Of The Universe’ Record store, Hector caught the attention of Albert's Favourites' label heads Adam Scrimshire & Dave Koor. A conversation was started which led to the transfer of almost a whole album's worth of material and resulted in his debut full length record ‘Sunshine’.

'Sunshine' was met with rapturous acclaim. The record went on to be awarded Gilles Peterson’s album of the week on his BBC 6 Music show and was championed by both Lauren Laverne and Tom Ravenscroft on the station as well as Jamie Cullum on BBC Radio 2. Its success on the airwaves transcended to streaming with the inclusion in the top 50 viral US chart on Spotify.

"This album has been a real labour of love. I spent the most part of a year trying to make music I thought would be fitting to follow my last album, whilst not actually knowing what that might sound like. 'Sunshine' had been received way more positively than I had anticipated and although praise is a lovely thing, it was the cause of much anxiety when the time came to start on this record. I put a lot of pressure on myself to produce music and kept going down routes that felt forced or just didn’t click for me, in hindsight I realise this was me making music not for myself, but for what I imagined other people might want to hear. In a way 'Next to Nothing' is my first real album, 'Sunshine' was more like a collection of four to five years worth of music compiled into the shape of one. This is my first dedicated attempt at creating a cohesive project, something that shows who I am right now and what got me here."

He has played alongside the likes of Gilles Peterson, Kutmah, Alexander Nut, MNDSGN, Onra, Dego, Kaidi, Max Graef & Glenn Astro; Hector finds himself in the good company of those talented selectors who play genres across the spectrum of Hip-hop, Beats, Funk, Soul, Disco, Afro-beat, House and Jazz.

Following Musta’s exquisite release on Viaggio in 2019, the Sardinia native returns with a three tracker of far-reaching, club ready rhythms.

‘Carosello’ was born out of a chance sampling session, with Musta digging through a bunch of dusty records he’d never thought of sampling before. The result? An absorbing trek through a tropical jungle, strange sounds call out, enticing melodies attempt to lure you off into the undergrowth. Decaying chimes, twisted rhythms, and a pounding bassline, it’s a tribal trip of surrealist oscillations.

‘Amico Mio’ & ‘Gnamelo’ came from a desire to leave the software as much in its box as possible. Instead, a week-long recording session with a range of Sardinia’s finest talent laying down a range of afrobeat infused parts, on instruments of the era. Worked around bumping live bass and infectious afrobeat percussion - ‘Amico Mio’ is a joyous sunshine filled, trumpet trilling groover whilst ‘Gnamelo’ takes the route of mesmerising, bass heavy slow burner.

The King & City reissue series continues with Paul Robinson's disco boogie jam Come On Sister. Moving from the Lovers sound of his early productions, his first solo recording was aimed straight at the blues, clubs and pirate stations of South London and beyond - a prolific artist on the rise.

Appearing as a 13 year old protegee drummer in The Simeons, recording for the legendary Freedom Sounds label out of Kingston; to forming the influential Roots / Lovers Rock outfit One Blood; then vocalist in the Nick Straker Band; and through to a 30 year career as "dubplate" producer / singer Barry Boom, Robinson is a man of talents and serious legacy.

This highly sought after debut, part of Neville King and Lee Laing's family of labels, followed releases in One Blood and productions for female Lovers groups Blood Sisters and Charisma. A pure disco boogie party cut, Come On Sister sees the Robinson family hit the Brit funk.

In label style, the flip is given the Discomix treatment, here by up and coming digger, dealer and producer, Bruno (Perfect Lives). Letting the horns, dub bass and drums build in anticipation before the keys and guitar join and it all drops to Robinson's vocals - Come On Sister.

Record store owner, DJ, producer, and digger extraordinaire Tom Noble comes to RNT with a superb edits EP of sought-after Caribbean and African sounds. From the magical mountains of Sydney Barney In The Tunnel (Barney Kato and Tunnel Signs) spew forth an EP of day to dark dancefloor moods over 4 luxurious tracks drawing from the friendship of the party, the synthesizer, the shroom, the drum machine and the science of fiction.

Coming as the eighth edition of the series, ‘EP8’ stays true to committing Defected’s biggest digital releases to wax, delivering an upfront package of house heat previously unavailable on vinyl. ‘EP8’ features four of Defected’s first releases of the decade, with David Penn’s collaboration with renowned house vocalist Roland Clark ‘The Power’ kicking off the A-Side, as Roland Clark’s mighty spoken word narrative paired with David’s rolling bassline and percussive breaks combine for a sincere and uplifting track.

Up next, Italian duo Supernova deliver their dancefloor cut ‘Can’t Stand It’, featuring Los Angeles vocalist Marley Monroe, who delivers her heavenly top-line, a track infused with Chicago house influences, Supernova’s cut is a start-to-finish groover. Limited information on this release, it contains two super edits that have been heavily road tested on a certain soundsytem that is currently doing the rounds. Not much information beyond that but the music speaks for itself. Slow mo with impact and energy. More soon.

Body Music (Bosq and The Rapture's Vito Roccoforte) return with another dose of 21st century mutant-disco and nocturnal New York swagger. Following up on their lauded Just One EP (Razor 'n Tape), the new two-track 12" delivers on the epic stomp and punch of that debut with two instant classics.

A-side 'Don't Think Twice' is a tightly modern and muscular re-imagining of some long-lost Paradise Garage-era gem, replete with head-snapping claps, an expansive sonic palette and full strut groove.

While, low-slung flip-side 'Give My Love a Try' rolls on a flirtatious arpeggiated bass-line and gasps of steamy synths that make it the perfect vibe to open or close a party. Lending soulful and sultry vocals across both cuts is Christian Holiday.

Holiday darts in an off the slick synth stabs and bouncy live-drums of Don't Think Twice and reaches a yearning falsetto that draws out the romantic swoon of Give My Love a Try, helping elevate the scope and craft of both tracks.

Hooky and virulent, it's a venerated sound that fits seamlessly into sets of Arthur Russell, ESG and Liquid Liquid classics with a crisp and deep production that remains infectiously of the moment.

At parties from Brooklyn to Ibiza, this 12" will no doubt be a go-to slice of wax coaxing dancers to move a little closer all summer long.

Persian-American cryptic electronic ingenue Farah can't be solved or explained. She makes dreamy, archly somber disco tunes that somehow sound both spontaneous & immaculate, painstaking & off-the-cuff. Crooning laconically — sometimes in English, sometimes in Farsi, but always with the taste of a woman too cool to betray anything as vulgar as emotion. 'Come, come, come, come, come, come, come' she commands on 'The Only Ones', the chant a wanton incantation. It's difficult to tell if the majestic synths that swirl around her are in harmony with the spirit or its counterpoint.

B-Side 'Baby Girl' delves into a chorus of Persian idiom: 'Dooset daram,' she sings, or 'I love you' in the Iranian expression. The song has the air of enigma — another of Farah's dance floor mysteries.

Italoconnection is back on Bordello with a remix EP of the song 'Humanize', which appeared on their critically acclaimed Metropoli album in 2017. Accompanied with the beautiful voice of Francesca Gastaldi an all-star team of producers got on remix duties. On top a bonus track with a new version of 'Neon Disco' by the King Of The Cut!

The flipside is Fouk's turf. 'That’s Pretty Vague' amps it up as a groovy bass line house track, broken with toughened up synths.
The tongue in cheek vocals lighten the mood, while staying pretty vague. What the **** is he talking about?

'Paahdy' says it all, straight up house with nods to Chicago, perfect for a "Paahdy".

Viaggio is back!

Two powerful originals, showcasing a range of different influences to label head, Stefano Ritteri’s music alongside a killer, cosmic house remix by WOLF Music’s, Medlar.

Giving a fresh take on an ‘80s sound, ‘Dope Mania’ slams with rough rhythms, snappy drum machine sequences and warped vocal samples. It wouldn’t be a Ritteri track without a generous helping of analogue synthwork - heavyweight hazy pads sending you straight back to the old school, yet interspersed within a modern, modulating Viaggio sound.

Having been a fan of Medlar’s work for many years, Ritteri enlists the WOLF Music and Delusions Of Grandeur family member to provide a driving, spaced-out house cut full of frenetic arps, crunchy 808 hits, sci-fi samples and an insatiable bassline that’s bound to cause a stir.

Closing it out, ‘Ready For Tonight’ weaves African samples and joyous refrains to form a punchy, bubblegum-esque number. And with all these tracks getting heavy rotations from the likes of Axel Boman, Midland , Kincaid, Soul Clap and many more, it’s destined to become a certified weapon for any discerning DJ.

Russian brothers Sasha and Sergey Lipsky return to Disco Halal for the third time under their famed Simple Symmetry project. Following off the back of Auntie Flo’s ‘Kabsa’, the duo’s ‘Gilgamesh’ EP is the fourth release for the label this year and continues to build upon Disco Halal’s successful trajectory.

The ‘Gilgamesh’ EP draws inspiration from the epic novel of the same name, the oldest story known to man. Leading with the title track, Simple Symmetry teams up with Mexican producer Inigo Vontier for a signature Shamanic chugger whilst one of their solo efforts ‘Fight’ is a string-heavy, psychedelic soundscape. Named after Gilgamesh’s faithful sidekick, ‘Enkidu’ continues this kaleidoscopic theme with Krautrock influences with Adam Port’s ‘Tulum By Night’ contrasting edit turns the record into a big room melody. The edit has already been heavily supported by Moscoman, Keinemusik, Âme and Dixon.

Based in Berlin, but firmly rooted in the diverse and forward-facing musical scene of Tel Aviv, Moscoman’s Disco Halal label hails from beneath the minarets of the Holy Land. The imprint exists to present a tight-knit and growing community of musicians and producers, each transmitting their unique musical identity, yet each united by a unique sensibility, as well as a harmonious balance of rhythm and experimentation.

Encompassing elements of downtempo, new-wave and alternative pop, stitched together with a leftfield dancefloor throb, Disco Halal’s back-catalogue, filled with efforts from the likes of Simple Symmetry, The Organism and Moscoman himself, has seen the imprint rapidly emerging from the once-overlooked nightlife and club scene of Tel Aviv into the worldwide spectrum.

NBAST continues to pile on the pressure with a stellar 10th release ready to drop in June 2020. After his smashing Whiplash EP earlier this year HDSN returns with a super heavy weight record inspired by the raw energy of the house sound which spanned the Eighties and early Nineties. “Soulside Rollers” takes a handful carefully chosen samples and gives them a futuristic flair courtesy of the iconic Roland 909 and other machine wizardry; an EP that bridges the sensibilities of House, Disco and strains of Soul. The hard-driving “Detroit" is the graceful and uplifting opener on the remarkable four-tracker. It´s a near-mythic homage to the city that shaped HDSN´s music over the years and seems to perfectly encapsulate the feeling of being lost in music with no way out. “Happiness Machine” is party music to play as the sun comes up. The ebullient hook and the silky vocals that join in the driving beat guarantee instant joy and give the song it´s name that reflects the spirit of our soul brother which is jaunty but never corny. “Tear It Up" sounds effortlessly cool, the stripped-down track, devoid of extraneous flourishes, still sounds like an absolute belter, it hits an almost church-like, surging, religious ecstasy and it's a concentrated laser beam of energy that seems powerful enough to melt dancefloors. “Late Bloomers” is more lush, more conventionally tuneful it´s deeply moving and quietly haunting, melancholy strings swelling over a minimalistic guitar line and the barest of beats. It may be a bit more soulful than the other tracks as it's born out of a desire to spread faith through tunes helping listeners find another plane - but it's simply hard not to be swept up in the sheer sense of conviction and it completes another certified record by HDSN.

In 2006 the musical landscape was a very different place. Social media, as we know it, was in it's infancy. The constant stream of likes, notifications and digital interruptions of today didn't fully exist yet. Those of us 'in the know' and with a thirst for the overlooked regions of the record store had to quench ourselves in the finely curated and generous climes of the online world's myriad music sites, but LA's Lovefingers site was something different, a watering hole in the burgeoning digital desert, a zone where Wally Badarou rubbed shoulders with the likes of Holger Czukay, Sylvester, Mr. Fingers and many others with ease and nobody had an issue with it. A space where a $1 thrift store score b-side could breathe the same dusty air as a $300 private press Folk rarity in comfort. Through an ongoing 'single track per day' posting Andrew 'Lovefingers' Hogge created a truly open-minded, democratic and educated selection of music for our secret, late-night right click and 'save link as' pleasure.

Did we mention that this was before almost everything that we now take for granted? That's right, you see all those Euro Pop dubs, or the 'classics' that we play at the wrong speed, or those private gems that have been reissued to the moon and back? Well, they very probably popped up on our collective record radars via the medium of first. Rightfully so, the site became an instant 'go to' and mark of quality among diggers, DJ's, voyeurs and lurkers around the globe and undoubtedly lead Andrew to instigate his much loved ESP Institute imprint, that is now almost a decade old. The Lovefingers site certainly contributed hugely to the wondrous, many faceted and open minded galaxy of records that is now the language we all speak fluently, inspiring a generation of curious diggers to delve even further into the racks.

This compilation you have within your grasp is merely a snapshot of the aural delights that were on offer to those of a 'leftfield' persuasion who found the site and dutifully tuned in for the daily shot of sonics proper. A finely and carefully crafted, lovingly curated handful of records that Andrew has revisited in order to tell the story of his most influential and essential modern musical resource. The tracklist is classic Lovefingers, an insight into the free-flowing nature of the daily posts, context free but somehow all connected via the same creative threads and energies - lo-fi loner jams brush up alongside sleazed-out Italo powerhouses, Greek new age obscurities tussle against overlooked Hawkwind related cuts, and much much more. Rumour has it that this is merely the first volume of this tale. Isn't that exciting? In the words of the man himself - 'That's not all folks' ...

Heavy disco fused house shit...you need this in your bag, collection, LIFE!

Theo Kottis’s celebrated ‘Turning Around’ and ‘Clear’ get a joint 12” vinyl release on 24 April on Skint Records, alongside the Gerd Janson remix of ‘Turning Around’ and an exclusive remix of ‘Clear’ by Hubie Davison.

‘Turning Around’ was one of 2019’s stand-out tracks, receiving top reviews, Annie Mac’s ‘Hottest Record in the World’, and played widely at festivals. One of the main supporters was Running Back label boss and “the DJ’s DJ” Gerd Janson who gives the uplifting disco workout a high-octane sheen, with a cascade of shimmering
beats and a poignant, powerful refrain.

On the B-Side is ‘Clear’, born out of a sample clearance issue which inspired TheoKottis to write an original piece of music that was ‘clear’ of samples. The end result is an exciting fusion of Italo disco and ‘80s synth-pop, complete with a euphoric vocal.

Exclusive to the vinyl release, acclaimed Irish-born and now London-based producer Hubie Davison delivers a deeper and tougher reworking, which is perfect for peak-time dance-floors. In Hubie’s words: There’s nothing better than being given a load of quality source material and license to have fun with it, and that’s exactly what happened here. I’ve been following Theo for a while now, so it was a joy to open the hood on ‘Clear’ and have a go at it. Having Gerd Janson on the other side makes it even better. Hopefully people enjoy these mixes as much as I do.”

Yoshinori Hayashi debuted his musical career with 'The End Of The Edge EP' on Going Good Records (UK) in 2015. This release was received with critical acclaim and ended up at #6 in Juno's top 50 Singles of the year. He then dropped two other killer 12s the following year ("Asylum' on Lovers Rock & 'The Forgetting Curve' on JINN Records, the latter included a great remix by DJ Sotofett) Born & based in Tokyo, Yoshinori Hayashi debuts on Disco Halal (Moscoman's already cult imprint) with an out of this world 4 tracker, blending his unique take on house with psychedelic & jazz influences. Life And Death’s next album project finds label boss DJ Tennis work with Israeli duo Red Axes to express themselves with total freedom and explore the similarities and differences between their respective sounds. Entitled Redrago and due for release as a 2 x 12” on October 11th, the adventurous and subversive full length is preceded by one two track single release and will will also be taken on the road for a series of unique live shows.

DJ Tennis and the Red Axes duo were first introduced to each other by The Pachanga Boys at a festival in Corsica. “Their faces, their expressions and their attitude—gentle, smart, loving and funny—impressed me at first sight“ remembers Tennis. That was many years ago, and since then they have deepened their personal and musical connections, but “always by chance” says Tennis. Around a year ago, they were having a discussions and decided they should attempt to combine their “love of psy and mediterranean influences” and scheduled a week of recording sessions together.

After making at 9am and having a proper Israeli breakfast, the artists went to a studio on top of a decadent old shopping mall in the Centre of Tel Aviv. Each of them then set up in one corner of the studio with their own instrument (including Tennis’s Pearl Syncussion, a small modular setup, a Juno and bunch of guitar pedals, while Niv and Dori “used their usual weird cheap instruments including bass and guitars”) and they began playing, experimenting and jamming, recording everything they did then swapping stations and repeating the process. “It was a friendly and loving experience” say Red Axes, who add that they then took all the recordings into various editing sessions and finalised the adventurous, multi-genre exploration that is Redrago.

“The aim was to find a kind of Italian-Israeli connection in our musical approach, “ explain Red Axes. “So the album journeys from psychedelic Italo disco to Israeli trance rock with a lot of rave elements. We call it falafel disco mixed with a 1/4 of spaghetti sauce.”

The album opens with the freaky synths and punchy drums of ‘Rave ’N Roll’, which has layers of exotic instrumentation and beguiling sound design. ‘Redrago’ is a Balearic track with expansive pads and sun kissed melodies washing over you like breaking waves, while ‘Il Veliero’ is a complexly woven tapestry of intoxicating leads and drunken tabla drum sounds with a psyched-out vibe.

The soft rock licks and conversational synths of ‘The Kohlrabi Session’ make for a chugging disco groover while ‘Plastelina’ is a deep and late night cosmic exploration that continues through the star gazing ambiance and long legged drums of ‘Shalom Alanation.’ Acid squiggles and tropical vocals make ‘Ventilo’ another fantastically fresh track while ‘Phantom Rag’ closes out with a flurry of wild synth patterns, techno drums and intergalactic feels that round things out in intense fashion.

This is a freeform album that knows no musical boundaries and will appeal to lovers of everything from kosmische to ambient, techno to Balearic.

Opilec Music's head man I-Robots joins forces with Hard Ton, a provocative and larger than life act that needs no introduction for anyone who knows their music in the Disco scene. I-Robots turns the clock forward to the late 80's for the on point Chicago '87 version. It's the same track but 5 years later on the other side of the globe. Both original tracks are lovingly detailed and authentic produced, two styles that sit so comfortably together whilst sharing a heritage that cannot be denied.

The fourth release is a double A side release from the japanese electronic music pioneer Hideki Matsutake. Composer, arranger and programmer he is certainly known as member of the Yellow Magic Orchestra with Ryuichi Sakamoto from 1978 to 1982. In 1981 he launched his own project Logic System, producing essential songs like ‘Unit’ and ‘Clash’ that are included in the seminal album ‘Logic’.

‘The first half of the 70s was an era of practices and challenges for me’ comments Hideki ‘I started at the studio of the legendary electronic music pioneer Isao Tomita where i touched a synthesizer for the first time. I explored the Moog modular learning how to create sounds that nobody had heard. It was a stimulating period for music. Loads of the Japanese pop of this era was an active mix of different genres like jazz, fusion, electronic music, enka and more, and there were many experimental sounds. The experience with Yellow Magic Orchestra has been wonderful, but I've always had the desire to produce my music based on my own experiences.
The first synthesizer I purchased was Moog IIIc and then an E-mu Modular System. The Roland MC-8 was also revolutionary in creating never-ending and precise rhythm patterns. I produced the first album ‘Logic’ together with my partner Ryo Kawakami. At the time I was working with him on different projects. Inspired by the principle of transformation, we were transported by thoughts, musical contexts and experimental elements that guided us to the production of this record’

The B side is a special italo disco version of ‘Unit’ produced by the Italian studio team Mito, formed by Natale Bellotti, Italo Portesani and Stefano Secchi. The idea of ​​this remaking came from friend and colleague Stefano Secchi. I think it was 1982’ recalls Italo Portesani ‘I introduced the project to Natale Bellotti who agreed to participate as executive producer. The studio band of Mito was born. The sound of Unit was already electronic and minimal but we thought to make it more danceable and in the mood with the italo disco and electro pop sound’
