Sons Of Slum released three singles on Stax and Gamma in the 1970s. They were reputed to be Chicago's finest live band of their time, the band broke up in 1978. 'Music Is Message' is a high octane funk and soul crossover jam which which has the potential to be a future classic. On the flip the tempo is lowered and a rasping horn supplements the killer groove with a smoothing vocal delivery. Cordial Recordings will release an album of previously unreleased songs that were recorded back in the mid 1970s in 2019.

Peter Richard's "Walking In The Neon" is rightly regarded in some circles as an Italo-disco classic. Originally included under a slightly different title on his 1983 debut EP, it was reissued on a number of occasions throughout the '80s. The two versions here are from the 1986 issue on Holland's Injection Disco Dance label. Richard's full-vocal original - a stylish slab of mascara-clad dark synth-pop with a distinctive Italo-disco pulse - is joined by the little-known instrumental Dub, which strips out the vocal and offers the Walter Beinat's chiming, chugging production room to breathe. Dark Entries' new artwork fits the bill, too, offering an authentic-looking take on Italo-disco sleeves of the period.

Copenhagen's Music For Dreams comes with yet another strong release - a double album of personal favourites compiled by Jan Schulte.
According to all maps and witness accounts, Germany does not officially have any tropical forests. This is of no concern to Schulte however, who has unearthed many stunning examples of tropical drum music recorded there. Perhaps the number of botanical gardens and palm houses in Germany confused musicians into mistaking the climate, or maybe it was just a happy blend of escapism and multi-cultural integration within musical scenes that spawned such a curious output of undefinable tribal folk jazz.
Most of the tracks picked by Schulte were released on small labels in the late 80's. The musicians involved were mainly traditionally schooled, born and raised in Germany. At that time to be interested in foreign folk music might have seemed a gimmick to some, what with the emerging "world music boom" already snowballing into the mainstream. But these songs, while they may be based on musical traditions from foreign lands, deal much more with introspection than exploitation. Schulte himself points to his "general fascination for music that describes places where the artists have never been. Songs about the jungle or the rainforest made by people that know the rainforest only from television and books. Somehow I think you can hear their mythical imagination and fantasy in those tracks," he explains.
We certainly hear it in the extensive use of wildlife samples on both "Tagtraum Eines Elefanten" by Argile and on "Wuhan Wuchang" by Total Art Of Percussion. Or on the repetitive and trace-inducing drum circle re-enactments of Ralf Nowys "Akili Mali" and Bob Moses' & Billy Martin's "Boat Song Part II". And while Austrian band Sanza stands out with their interpretation of the traditional folk song "Sounouh", many of the inclusions take an avantgarde stance towards their visions of the tropics. The works of Om Buschmann and Trimopen seem to convey the stark and feverish nature of the jungle and its dangers, without relying on clichés. And while there is certainly a European approach in the production techniques on many of these recordings, the artists created something beyond all templates. In fusing folk music traditions from various corners of the world with avant-garde jazz improvisation and a distinctly European sound, they carved out a path of their own.
Düsseldorf-based Jan Schulte has been following this path with his own productions in the past years. During the present resurgence of tribal influences in underground dance music, his recordings under the alias Wolf Müller and Bufiman have stood out as the most interesting, funky and mindblowing within this niche. With the compilation "Tropical Drums Of Deutschland" for Music For Dreams, Jan Schulte re-traces this path to its origins. With the inclusion of two exclusive edits he also engages and re-examines these tracks and incorporates his own musical expression into the mix.

Returning to the full-length format with the second album THIS SIDE OF PARADISE (KOMPAKT 335 CD 126) in October, COMA never stray far from their well-established modus operandi: rich in melodic and rhythmic content, the new material appeal to fans who love their music at home and in the club. Lead single LORA is no different: a truly refined electronic pop gem from artists commanding their craft with confidence and style, bolstered by powerful, glistening revamps from electronic luminaries PIONAL and ROBAG WRUHME.

Buckle in for an orgasmic Italo trip, courtesy of Argentinian duo Furor Exótica. The result of a sweaty and shaky journey in their Buenos Aires studio, here they deliver two stir-crazy babies, crafted for dancing lovers worldwide.

The title track ‘Macchina Bum Bum’ builds energy gradually from minimal beginnings, adding spine-tingling vocoder vocals, shimmering synth melodies and a familiar sample as it builds towards a euphoric climax. Prime sunset material.

Meanwhile ‘Fractal’ is a hot and heavy chugger, with its throbbing bassline, trippy vocals, and euphoric synth melodies swelling and swirling together. You can practically smell the sweat on leather.

On remix duties, Donald’s House kick things off with a brilliant reimagining of ‘Macchina Bum Bum’, complimenting the vocals with a squiggly, wiggly, funky and propulsive retro-futurist instrumental. Just try not to throw your hands in the air when the synth melody comes in around the halfway mark! A certified stone cold banger, ready for peak-time deployment.

Bringing things home, label founders Kayroy and GREETINGS deliver a dreamy, psychedelic rework of ‘Fractal’. The vocals are transformed into a trippy, gated refrain, taking center stage alongside mellow, warm synth lines, and underpinned by a robust 808 kick. The track ends in a final crescendo, which should please dancers in a club or lovers in a broom closet alike.

The title track fuses the stankin’ bassline, slick wah guitars and dope drums with MC Nosaj’s free associative raps. Nosaj (aka Jason Furlow) is a true hip-hop maverick. Raised in New York City, the MC and producer’s trailblazing sonic experimentalism began with his role in cult ‘90s psychedelic rap troupe New Kingdom. Nosaj’s thirst for innovative musical styles has led to him collaborating with dub-master Bill Laswell, new wave singer-songwriter David Byrne (Talking Heads), and trip-hop acts Tricky and Morcheeba.

When on the mic, Nosaj attacks songs with an impressionistic rasp of a voice that channels punk rock energy and hip-hop swagger in an exhilarating fashion, emoting rhymes influenced by Divine Styler, Bad Brains and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Over 25 years on from Nosaj’s recorded debut, his reputation endures as one of hip-hop's most consistently boundary-pushing artists—and as simply one of the most distinctive and emotive voices you’ll ever hear.

Side B, Demerara Dash is a kinetic funk workout. The instrumental is a whirlwind tour de force of instrumentation – drums, percussion, sax and guitars alternately take to the fore in this dancefloor frenzy.

Strangers For Love is a solo band project by Alessio Di Mezza, also known as Religius Order. He sings, plays guitar and programs a bunch of synthesizers and drum machines, all in his home studio in Frosinone, Italy. The 7" is the first physical release and forms a connection between the past and the present where all his influences from punk over shoegaze to dark wave come together. While the A-side takes you on a melancholic and in hall flooded journey of self-discovery in which nothing seems to matter, the B-side lives from screaming guitars and vocals that will bring you back to the here and now. An emotional and weird trip from hate to love and just the vehicle to write your own journey.

2021 is being a very prolific year for Spanish label Night Shift Records with all their releases reaching the top of the sales charts. After the success of the past references by the owner of the label Javi Frias and the San Diego superstar Never Dull, now it is the turn of Solazz, founding member of the Supa Disco project born five years ago in Ibiza, which debuts at the label with an amazing four track EP titled 'Highlife Disco'. Side A includes 'Work It Out', a great rework that includes a great bass line added to the original that makes it irresistible to dance, and 'Time's Running' a groovy summer vibe track that contains high-pitch voice side-walking with a top synth bass. On the B side, 'Roller Skate INC' strikes your body with conga rhythms and a funky bass, and last but not least 'Highlife Music', a killer track of afro-disco with piano house touches, evolving synths and great sax solo that will make you dance again!

RNT is going back to the roots of their Reserve series with Rose Cutz 2, a pack of burners and heaters from Rose Records honchos Luvless and M.ono. Four years and ten releases later we can say that Apparel Wax -the vinyl-faced hero- has been able to always renew itself and its sound because, as our manifesto says, we try not to submit to any genre. We wanted every release to be the outcome of a long research through uncommon sounds and APLWAX010, yet again, is an unidentified sonic object picked up by our radar. The last one though! We didn't plan it, we just felt like the time has come -eventually- to close this beautiful chapter. More than one factor led us to take this decision: the progressive concern about the planet (therefore the impossibility to keep producing plastic bags and gadgets), the desire to leave at our peak and to invent something new are just two of them. The constant process behind the renewal of our sound -which we embraced ten years ago with the birth of Apparel Music- sometimes passes through hard choices and we need to feel again that sensation of 'void' in order to create something fresh, different, as we did when we started Apparel Wax. We won't drag our masked hero to a point of sonic stagnation. Robin Lee returns under his Rudy's Midnight Machine guise delivering a sold dose of blissed out Mediterranean Jazz Funk circa 1981! Bringing in all the right sounds to take you away on a sun kissed cocktail dream. The opening track ''Dyane'' is full of light breezy keys cascading over a subtle rhythm track. ''La Rochelle'' is full of sunlight with great melodic hooks and light piano solos drift in and out,''Shy Smile'' takes the tempo down with a seductive breezy style.''Crytsal Dragonfly'' the title is more of a neo classical piece featuring a Korean lute and lush cello and string arrangemnets.Closing off with ''Pre De Minuit'' Robin starts off with the piano and adds dreamy rhythms as the track builds to close off the EP perfectly.

Russian Producer Volta Cab presents himself i n MM Discos with Balearic Balsam EP, a record that explores the borders of the sound that was born i n the white i sland, blending i t with a “new-wave” oriented vibe.
On the A side, Saint Petersburg based producer, shows us what he l ikes the most partying obscure rhythms with summery-soothing atmospheres. “Shujumi'' plays along with more ethnic and oriental sounds while “Balearic Balsam” gets highly influenced by t he 80’s new wave.
On the B side, the talented Greek producer “Anatolian Weapons” takes over the control by remixing Shujumi, he twists the original track and adds different acid elements building a perfect 4x4 killer straight to your brain. Volta Cab finishes the EP with “Vedic Space Vehicle”, getting a l ittle darker than the previous tracks on the
A side but without changing the vibe, delivering an excellent new-age-elektro rooted anthem.

Completing a fantastic triptych of LPs for 2016, Will Saul's Aus Music is delighted to announce a debut full length from Youandewan. The Berlin based Brit's ten track 'There Is No Right Time' lands in October 2016 and shows a very real development of his deep house style. Youandewan is Ewan Smith, a DJ and producer who has quietly but consistently gone about fomenting his own tender brand of deep house. He has been doing so since 2009 and most recently settled on this label with tracks that are shy but seductive, and full of both motive and emotive forces. This album stays true to that narrative, but really sees the producer finding his feet with his most accomplished and elegant work to date. Much of the music was sketched out during a wintery Berlin three years ago. Having left London, hungover from a breakup, Smith found himself broke and secluded in an apartment for four months. All this lent the music he wrote a melancholic vibe, one that nods to the lonely nature of the job and to the darker side of constant partying and all that comes with it. A swelling, expansive piece of melodic atmospherics starts things off, then the soft hues of some analog chords bring a neon glow to the weightless whirl of 'Be Good To Me, Poly'. Soaring synths marry with a raw drum and bass combo on 'Waiting for L',
then 'Time To Leave (Can't Mix)' resets to a piano laced beatdown vibe that is willfully wallowing. '10405 (Alice)' is a
shimmering, crescendoing piece, and from there the second half of the album begins to take an upward and optimistic swing through the floating, graceful harmonies of 'Our Odyssey'.
'Something Keeps Me Real Quiet' is a concession to the floor with its rusted electro slither, 'Left On Lucy' calls upon friend Huerta for a flailing bit of hi-tek soulful house Derrick May would be proud of, and 'Earnest Kelly' nods to the '80s with its stomping retrosynthesis. Finally, '4D Anxiety' allows all pent up emotion and energy to dissipate via a playful hip-hop jam effortlessly tapped out on an MPC. Essentially, this is a listening album that proves deep house done needn't be reserved for the club. It is
vulnerable and musical, and stays with you long after it finishes playing.

Japan's Dai San returns with his second EP on GAMM and this time he goes on a jazzy escapade with three cuts ranging from Disco-Jazz, Fusion-Funk and deep Rare Grooves.

The A side begins with Sundance, a peak time Jap-Fusion Disco jam sounding like if it was Azymuth's Jazz Carnival twin sister...a definitive dancer for the jazzier crews.
On the flipside, Dai San goes deeper with a fusion-funk edit and a spaced-out jazz-glide.

Jonny Rock a familiar face on the London house and disco scenes is recognized by many for working behind the counter at Phonica Records & Blackmarket Records during the 00's and as the dude for playing the guitar in 'Freaks' project. Rock skillfully joins the dots between the old school house, underground disco and boogie vibes in a party setting.
