This is a very special EP. As many might know Toy Tonics started as a sublabel of now sleeping German indie dance label Gomma records. Gomma, along with DFA, Output Records and a few other was knownn for a very ecclectic, different approach in dance music. On this LOST GOMMA MIXES EP you find 4 now lost tracks that came out ca 10 - 20 years ago on Gomma, but fit very well in today’s zeitgeist again. Pete Herbert, In Flagranti, Jacques Lu Cont are featured. Who knows about modern disco - knows these producers. And there is a very special name here too: Nicky Siano. The now legendary New York DJ used to be resident at Studio 54 and other legendary NYC venues of the 1970ies and 1980ies. One of his are remix works was for the Gomma rcords band The KDMS. Pure disco euphoria.

It's been almost three years since the Berlin based producer and Off Recordings label boss Andre Crom (alongside Luca Doobie) last appeared on Freerange with their Attica EP. Well summer is upon us and what better way to return to the label than with an amazing sun-drenched vocal track accompanied by a remix from the hotly tipped Diynamic artist David August.

Since we first heard the first draft of Tell Me about a year ago we were well and truly smitten. How could you not be The easy-paced but still nicely pumping groove is simplicity itself with Andre keeping things confidently stripped-back and bare-boned providing more space for 8Dennis Degenhardt's* understated vocal refrain. The chopped up Summer Madness chords add a soulful, classic-sounding element to the track.

Edoardo Florio Di Grazia is a singer-songwriter from the Amalfi Coast, born in Florence and living in Paris. After moving to Paris he began collaborating with the French producer Bruno Hovart "Patchworks", here working under his "Voilaaa" alias. Together, they created "Indossare Il Mare", a hymn to the return to one's origins, characterized by a fresh and Mediterranean sound. After the digital release in France only, Groovin Recordings will release a special vinyl edition for Record Store Day 2024, also including a remix by Giacomo Lecchi D'Alessandro.

The fifth release on Tempo Dischi comes from one of the true pioneers of Italian disco: Maurizio Dami aka Alexander Robotnick. 'Problèmes d’Amour' and 'Computer Sourire', included in the mini album "Ce n’est q’un début" are two fundamental songs in the history of electronic music made in Italy.

'I started with music very late. I was 27 years old. In the early 80s Florence became the music capital of the new rock in Italy. There was a movement, different from what we were used to in the 70s, varied in activities ranging from theater to music, from design to fashion to graphics and comics. There was also a lot of attention to what was happening in the world, starting with northern Europe and the United States, but also other countries. I went to popular music school and started learning to play jazz guitar, but I was immediately hooked by the music of Kraftwerk and in 1982 I founded my first band, Avida. It was a sort of electronica and new wave, with “stupid” and ironic Italian lyrics. Irony is a fundamental part of my music, probably due to my feelings. The following year I met the Bigazzi brothers, from Materiali Sonori, a very small avant-garde label from a very small town in Tuscany. One day Giampiero told me "You can make some money with disco music". My dream was to be able to live on music’.
Within a year he produced in the same studio "Problèmes d’Amour" and "Computer Sourire", with Marzio Benelli and the production and direction of Giampiero and Arlo Bigazzi. Both songs are included in the mini Lp "Ce n'est q'un debut" released in 1984, considered a milestone of the electronic music made in Italy.
‘It wasn't Italo Disco, of which I don't consider myself either a pioneer or a progenitor’ recalls Maurizio ‘My sound, I think, influenced more than anything else Chicago and Detroit house and then Dutch electro-disco and 2000's electro-house’.
The vinyl includes the highly sought after Remix version of Computer Sourire, never reissued so far, the Tempo Dischi cut of the original version and the bonus track 'Dance Boy Dance', still played a lot by DJs today.

These three songs by Kasso re-edited and mixed by John Jellybean Benitez between 1981 and 1982 represent a musical bridge that allows us to move from Europe to North America easily, but only if equipped with roller skates. JJBB with his skillful work in those early 80s was able to open new paths to Italo-Disco by fusing it with other styles, thus leaving an indelible mark on musical culture and the evolution of various genres. "Key West", so happy and melodic, is an extraordinary piece of music that has become a classic of the underground house music scene of New York and Chicago, contributing among other things to building freestyle music in the early 80s along with pieces like "Dirty Talk", "The Mexican", "Rapture", etc. it could be heard at night in East New York, Brooklyn, anywhere on any Saturday circa 1983. Also "Walkman", one of the best instrumental dance songs, could also be heard in every handball court and schoolyard in Brooklyn and Queens as it embodied the vibe of gritty New York at the time, but it also became a staple in Chicago during WBMX 102.7. it was fm Hot Mix 5, which influenced house music. This song and countless other pieces have crossed and transcended trends such as uprocking, roller skating break dancing, webo dancing. "Kasso", which in addition to the title of the third song of this splendid reissue published by Best Record, is also the pseudonym of the fairy Claudio Simonetti. This piece actually is a classic Jazz funk, not disco, which is to be enjoyed and to dance, dance, dance, takes us back to the Funhouse and the unique way of mixing music, sometimes with brutal, energetic, stimulating changes of rhythm, of Jellybean Benitez, who as always blessed every track he touched with his talent.

Ruffneck feat. Yavahn – Everybody gets a couple of disco boogie rubs. The Disco Dub does just that by chopping & looping the vocal in a minimal yet hypnotic way to create a real up club vibe!

Inspired and influenced by the music of his friend Michael Gray, UK DJ Steve Newsome utilizes his 30-plus years as a DJ and brings in some proper pure disco bizniz. His version stomps with an addictive energy and percussive disco groove.

Mr. K goes Gospel on the latest seven from Most Excellent Unlimited’s series of collaborations with the master editor. As is often the case, both of these edits are appearing on vinyl, and on 45, for the first time, with all the hallmarks of MEU’s commitment to quality.

A massive favorite with audiences who’ve attended Danny Krivit’s sets around the world, his “Churchapella” edit of Madonna's “Like A Prayer" is finally on wax. One of the singer’s greatest tracks, it has always fascinated with its combination of the sacred and the profane, leaving it up to the listener whether she is referring to a secular or holy love. In Krivit’s hands, focused largely on the undeniably massive sound of the Andre Crouch Choir, the divine nature of the lyrics shine through. Uplifting, moving, even transcendent when presented at the right moments, it’s both an inspiring piece of music and a seriously powerful DJ tool.

“Like A Prayer” is paired on the flip side with a fantastic edit of the Clark Sisters funky, slinky rare groove classic “Ha-Ya (Eternal Life).” Never officially released on 7-inch before, Krivit has taken the loose original recording and given it a steady pulse not by adding post-production elements, but via his experienced hand at building a musical movement that audiences will respond to. A slight tempo change, a bit of careful repetition, and at last connoisseurs of the smaller format vinyl have a definitive version of this powerful song.

A new project by Dicky Trisco and JKriv, Sentimental Animals is a celebration of dancing, late night antics, and musical togetherness.

This offering of all-original disco features lead singer of Brooklyn disco outfit Escort belting her heart out, and Robin Lee of Faze Action showing his muso side on guitar, bass and keys duties. Art of Tones gets down and dirty on the flip side with a rolling and raucous funk remix.

B2 Recordings is a label run by Greek talent Bengoa as a platform to offer up his own diverse sounds. Here he serves up a new single featuring Pan that is sublime, seductive and deep. The vocals you will recognise from a classic pop hit but here they get all resung in an even more libidinous fashion. The drums roll, and the percussion is loose, and bright but soft chord stabs heighten the mood. Flip it over for an instrumental version of 'Thelxis' that is all about the late-night grooves. Two stylish sounds for romantic moments.

The ever-playful and seriously skilled mash-up and edit maestro The Reflex has been out in a class of one for many years. Few in his field managed to cook up the sort of delicious disco brilliance that he manages and this new 12" on the fledgling Discolidays isn't going to change that perception. 'Overture' (The Reflex Revision) is a glorious fusion of instrumental disco and withering sci-fi designs next to a catchy as hell vocal. On the flip, things head south with Latin melodies and percussion and glorious flute lines bring the joy to 'O Ba Ba' (The Reflex Revision).

It always gives us an extra little buzz to bring you a debut release from a new artist, especially when you know it’s going to be the launch pad for someone that is going to grow to become a heavyweight player. Parisian Larry Quest has been slowly but surely paying his dues, promoting, DJing and generally immersing himself in the underground House Music scenes of Paris and then London after moving to Hackney eight years ago. Growing up playing in punk bands, then studying Jazz at music college has given him the attitude as well as the skillset to create music which is both intensely raw and rugged whilst still being musical and deep. For his debut EP he delivers four drumheavy cuts which bring together elements of Detroit techno and house to form a forward-looking sound which will make an impact wherever you play them.

Opener Conun Drums packs a serious punch with simple synth line sitting on top of a lo-slung bumpy groove. Perfectly timed synth stabs bring a touch of light to the thumping bass and metallic percussion and already we get a sense that we’re in safe hands with Larry Quest at the controls.

Red C Mellow D follows, treading similar water with live drums laying the foundation and touches of colour coming from echoing synth lines and an acidic bassline.

Flip over for the curiously titled A Frog Rovin’, which is about as quirky and off-kilter as the name suggests. The major tonality brings an optimistic vibe which sits in contrast to the thundering saturated 909 drums and speakerwobbling low-end.

Closing out this brilliant release we have Solar Assailer which plays with our sense of time as drums and filtering stabs dance around the beat completely throwing us off the scent of where the one is. Finally the elements fall into place and lock into the groove which is underpinned by the pulsing throb of the bassline. Larry’s jazz background rears it’s head now and then, coming out in the little flourishes of fusion-era chord sequences and moogy lead lines. What a debut, we hope you agree!

Sanctuary’s Life Classics label sees its third installment with a mixture of Disco and Funk, edited for the dance floor with respect to the original work.

Your favourite deep fried potato-based label is back. Pomme Frite regular Benjamin Groove serves up his endearingly titled debut EP, ‘Mr Chips’.

Benjamin Grooyve has featured previously on Pomme Frite, collaborating with head chef Alex Virgo. This time Alex returns the favour, featuring on their B Side track ‘Night Train’.

A local Detroiter who knows Classics!!

Vladimir Sivc (Funky Destination a.k.a. Mr. Louie) was born on August 19, 1979 in Osijek (eastern Croatia). With dedication to the retro sound of pure funky instinct, he set out to create a wild and groovy sound with this project. Louie took his first step into the world of music by taking guitar lessons. Later he devoted himself to rock singing and playing rhythm guitar.

At the end of the 90s the move from the eastern part to the western coast of Croatia (on the Adriatic Sea). The encounter with the turntable makes him experiment working as a DJ.

Subsequently he begins to produce his own music, traveling through various styles, using house and tribal elements trying to avoid artificial sound processing as much as possible. By using live instruments, the sound remains fresh and alive, resulting in a musical product whose vibrations contain an indestructible power of movement.

He has collaborated with several European labels including IRMA Records, Timewarp Music and Sound Exhibition Records.

In this single we find two of his most famous songs in remix version: Take It Down by LTJ Xperience and Mr. Bong by himself under his pseudonym Louie. Plus the original versions of Take It Down and another of his classics Praise Me Now. While compiling these notes and preparing the release of the single for distribution, we received the terrible news of his sudden passing at just 44 years old. We are completely shocked by this news and we plan to honor him in any case by publishing this EP to which he was very attached.

Up next on Jimmy Rouge’s Orange Tree imprint is Moving Still aka Jamal Sul. Following his Dar Disku release, supported by Hunee and Palms Trax, Jamal steps up with an eclectic four track EP full of Arabic influenced chuggers, a style quickly becoming synonymous with the young Dublin based producer.

Floors Records is set to release a new vinyl project titled ‘Trinity Various’ at the end of May. The release will bring together an original track composed by a member of the Floors Records collective, a rework by Gin Tonic Orchestra, and a remix by an international DJ. This project is the first of a series of recurring releases by Floors Records that will follow the same format.

The French producer Kaffe Crème, known for the highly sought-Kaffe Crème EP in 2016, has contributed an original track to the project called ‘Nuits Sonores’. The track pays homage to the festival of the same name in Lyon, France, in a classic old-school House style.

In addition, Chicago legend Ron Trent, widely considered one of the most talented and accomplished deep house producers of all time, has remixed the Gin Tonic Orchestra’s rework, adding his own unique touch as the Godfather of the genre.

Norwegian Demi-god, Rulefinn is back. On his semi-annual trips to Florida, he snagged a number of gems while digging with WD label honcho, Sleazy McQueen. Three of these songs have been distilled to pure boogie essence for the Fedora Files.

The Concrete EP is a four tracker, with 'Dark Room' sleazily bass slapping it's way across the dance floor to you, building and oiling you up before flourishing into the synth laden house stomper that will work you into a tizzy, while 'Once Upon a Time in Guilin'zones in on a trippy far east setting, drawing you in before an acid takeover.

Having previously released music via Soundway Records and Five Easy Pieces, South London based producer XOA (AKA Nick Tyson) caught the ears of Gilles Peterson, DJ Mag, Boiler Room, Red Bull, XLR8R (and more) with his use of rich analogue sonics, steeped in the electronic sounds of London’s musical underbelly, blending vibrant textures and cosmic melodies, melding afrobeat and jazz sensibilities with house and techno.

Re-emerging last year with a new direction and meaning: hard hitting Jazz with big analogue electronic sounds, along with a four-person outfit (which features Tyson (Bass & Electronics) joined by Johnny Tomlinson (Synths / Fender Rhodes), Josh Arcoleo (Tenor Saxophone) and Joost Hendrickx (Drums). AVNU (UK) follows up his fantastic recent single on Ellum Audio with a long-awaited and hugely adventurous new album, ‘Tough To Love But Worth The Effort’.

AVNU (UK) is based on the East Coast of Scotland and has been deeply immersed in music for twenty plus years. He has a love of everything from rock, soul and blues to disco, electro, techno, trance and rave. All of that comes out in his innovative sounds, which range from sweat-inducing club tracks to hooky and feel-good grooves. This album finds him working his magic across 15 tracks that bring plenty of fresh perspective to house, electro, synth, techno and pop. They add up to a storytelling record filled with left turns and tracks that work in a range of different contexts.

'Surprise!' opens with a glossy electro beat and shimmering 80s synths that set the tone for the whole record. 'I Love You' brings a French touch influence with plenty of filtered synth loops and crisp drums under a soulful vocal, then 'Supaflake' cuts loose on an old-school funk vibe with nods to early Daft Punk. This most colourful of records plays out through the likes of sombre cosmic techno offering 'Bad Karma,' the longing chords and heavy-hearted electronica of 'Odyssey Jam' feat Mariel Ito and distorted bass of 'Phlegm In The Street' which comes with laser-like synths and menacing vocals.

The future styles continue on 'Yo E, Check This Out' which collides jungle breakbeats with brain-melting sine waves, while 'Wilkie' is a moment to catch your breath amongst bright and shiny synths and deeper drums that suspend you in a celestial sky. 'Proud You’re Mine' is a perfect electro-dance-pop gem that has potential to be a summer festival anthem and the title track closes down with six minutes of enchanting and mystical synth lines and hypnotic drums.

‘Tough To Love But Worth The Effort’ is a spectacularly broad and accomplished album that lives in a world of its own.

Groove Line Records Autumn series of properly licensed rare disco / funk reissues continues with two superb slices of dance floor soul from the little known Candy Bowman - 'I Wanna Feel Your Love' and 'Since I Found You (Love Is Better Than Ever).'

Released through RCA on 12' in 1981 under the production guidance of the team behind Stephanie Mills successful 1979 album 'What Cha Gonna Do With My Lovin'' (James Mtume, Reggie Lucas), both these tracks exhibit the same smooth, subtle orchestration, instrumentation and soulfulness, and have found a loving home on dance floors and in record collections on both sides of the Atlantic and further a field ever since.

'I Wanna Feel Your Love' opens with jazzy interplay between the guitars and synths then settles on the tight groove at 0m18 before Bowman's stunning, harmonised vocals build up with an intense yearning while the fluid bassline and Chic-esque rhythm guitars play with the drifting synth and horn lines all the way to the fade. The single version is also included on this release.

'Since I Found You (Love Is Better Than Ever)' is incredibly smooth, mid-tempo R&B heaven, favoured by many UK DJs. The ascending piano riff which opens the track can't help but give you an immediate glow even before the beat kicks in and Bowman's joyful vocal hits the first verse. The heightened verses, in contrast to the smooth choruses, make this track perfect for the dancefloor, with a great chorus breakdown at 2m46 which rises back up and glides on the chorus to the fade. The innovative production on this track surely influenced many that came after. Due to the high quality of both of these tracks the original 12''s are always in high demand by committed collectors. Making them the very definition of 80's Rare Groove!

Third chapter of the "Milano Undiscovered" series, curated by Fred Ventura, takes us on a journey through the vibrant Milanese techno and house scene of 1988-1992.

This latest installment unveils a treasure of unreleased demos, showcasing the productions that emerged from the city's flourishing underground during this era. Inspired by the pioneering sounds emanating from Chicago, Detroit, London and Sheffield, a wave of Milanese producers embarked on a creative odyssey, crafting their own unique sonic interpretations of the electronic dance music landscape.

Brazilian DJ and producer Rafael Cancian delivers a veritable United Nations of diverse international disco flavor for his first outing on Razor-N-Tape.

The A side delivers cheeky horns and gyrating synths with 'Ç'est La Douceur', followed by a flurry of string stabs and vocal fourishes with the Italo-tinged 'Fascino Di Milano'. On the flip we get a taste of Rafa’s native Brazilian boogie with the stomping 'Frágil', and the EP winds down with the sensual slow groover 'Besos Libres'.

This is a 4-tracker of serious heat representing all four romance languages…perfect for romancing, and dancing!

Over the Course of just two- and half years, Tropical Disco Records now reach their 17th release. They have remained utterly consistent, producing statements of a timeless and moving calibre.

Moodena kicks off the EP with 'Jezebel', which keeping to its namesake, launches with floozy whistles and punchy, strutting drums. The initial drop lets loose a trumpet and plinking strings naughty enough, yet second time round hydraulic screeches and further brass send the mood through the roof, recalling golden era hip hop, funk and peak Oliver $. It's a powerful opener, no doubt ready to slay any dancefloor it encounters.

Sartorial's 'Night Shade' has a haughtily proud, head-high body groove. Chimes shimmer amongst divine sax workouts and subtle keys. The live elements really come alive, sure to allure dancers at any point in the night.

Dubai based Strictly Rhythm and MN2S Recordings affiliate Conan Liquid shares his debut for TD with 'Gotta Scratch'. The bass is what sets the track apart; deep and righteous, effortlessly joined by a whirl of bold synth leads, tribal drums and playful piano dabs.

To close the EP is another label debutant hailing from Russia, Igor Gonya. 'Caprice Mood' is a meaningful finisher, late 80's esque vocals elevate all surrounding elements, perfectly succinct strums and rolling bass, evoking an uplifting essence of reassurance and bliss in a troubled time.

Did you know that for decades, record collectors across the Dutch-speaking region have overlooked a significant portion of their own musical heritage while avidly searching for rare grooves and breaks in bins filled with more exotic music? It's a fact! And that's where Harde Smart comes in. After delving deep into dusty crates of Belgian and Dutch music, Harde Smart's inaugural compilation in 2019, dedicated to music from the 1970s, brought to light a selection of smooth, jazzy, funky, and soulful gems from Flanders (the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium) and Holland. In addition to exquisite grooves and hard-pounding drums, these songs shared Dutch lyrics, offering a unique compilation of lyric-driven Flemish and Dutch music from back in the days.

Yet, nothing is as certain as the unexpected. This compilation marked the first time a Dutch album uncovered the authentic Afro-American funk and soul vibe, which, albeit sporadically, influenced the work of both popular and lesser-known singers and musicians in this corner of the world during the 1970s. Undoubtedly, influences also stemmed from French chanson and rock music of the era. This 21-trackalbum shattered all musical predictability, taking listeners on a strange and nostalgic journey, offering a revised collection of "essential homegrown classics" for local listeners while also captivating non-Dutch-speaking audiences.

With the second compilation, Harde Smart shifts its focus from the 1970s sound to explore the next decade, the 1980s. Vinyl aficionados No Sleep Richy and Micha Marva joined forces with Sjefke De Kok, one of Holland's premier crate diggers, to continue their musical odyssey. Digging even deeper into dusty bins filled with Dutch and Flemish records once again unearthed an exquisite selection of tracks-too weird to play, too rare to ignore. From butt-shaking boogie to weird disco adventures on wax, this album encapsulates all the good stuff of the 1980s: smooth and seductive alongside dark and wavy. Get ready for an atypical introduction into the Dutch lyric-driven music from the 1980's.

Released for the first time in CD and Digital format in 2017 this is the sixth album by Luca Trevisi LTJ Xperience.

It contains some of his most played songs such as Get Down, Let There Be Groove, Put Me Down and the one that gives the title to the album Beggar Groove here in its two versions.

The release is in a limited edition double album on White vinyl. Luca LTJ Trevisi (LTJ Xperience) trained as a producer DJ in the late 1980s. Resident first at the Kinki Club in Bologna and then at Cap Creus in Imola, he is one of the first Italian DJs to program house and above all to re-propose Black Music, Jazz and Latin Bossa, all the genres that then over time gave way to Acid Jazz and Nu Jazz.

He began his work as an artist and producer with Irma Records and in the 90s also his activity as an international DJ who saw him play at the Blue Note and the Jazz Café in London, at the Giant Steps in New York and at the Jazz Festival in Montreux.

In 1999 he released his first solo album under the name LTJ Xperience. To date he has released 7 albums all on Irma Records, several compilations, many singles and remixes also collaborating with international labels such as Far Out Recordings, Sleazy Beats, Future Classics, E.A.R., Music For Dreams, Apersonal Music.

His first single release in 1988, titled First Job, together with Kekkotronics, was also the first release ever on Bologna based Irma Records. It was featured in a lot of compilations of the time and entered several playlists, rapidly reaching cult status for many UK and US djs. During the early 90s LTJ delivered a couple of singles in a kind of pre-breakbeat style: Dont Stop The Sax, released all over Europe, and Funky Superfly. He also produced US singer Tameka Starrs single Going In Circles, always for Irma Records, still a classic in the downtempo/r&b field. In the second half of the nineties Luca began to produce acid jazz bands like Bossa Nostra, still today one of Irma Records main acts. Their first album had Vicky Anderson as special
guest and today is still considered one of the most important European acid jazz albums. In the following years he concentrated on developing his activity as collector and rare vinyl merchant, which gave him the chance to get in touch with djs from all over the World and to discover many forgotten gems from the past years. Thanks to this experience he was able to create two extremely successful rarities series on Irma Records:

Groovy and Suono Libero. In the meanwhile LTJ started to dj outside Italy too, performing in important venues like the Blue Note and Jazz Café in London, Giant Step in New York and Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. In 1999 saw the release of his first solo album under the LTJ Xperience moniker. The album was produced with the collaboration of fellow Irma artist and producer Ohm Guru and had Taka Boom and Jackson Sloan among the guests. Two of the main tracks on the album are brazil house classic Sombre Guitar and title track Moon Beat, which became a true hit of the Chill Out genre, featured in dozens of important compilations.

After making countless productions for Irma Records, including their second album When The Rain Begins To Fall (with the participation of the historic Spanish-American singer Joe Bataan), and the recents singles as ORGAN MIND / I LOVE YOU (favorite track by Larry Heard ) & ON THE FLOOR / SOUND MACHINE, LTJ is devoted almost exclusively to re-edit and reconstruct tracks from the past with the addition of sounds and rhythms in post production for labels like SUPER VALUE, SMALL WORLD DISCO, HOT GROOVY RECORDS, OH CRISTO! increasing the production of this new musical genre that is currently defined as beatdown/slo-mo, working with international labels such as Far Out Recordings, Sleazy Beats, Future Classics, E.A.R. Music For Dreams, Apersonal Music, Roam Recordings, !K7.

Deepening of a Groove is the new album, the fifth dedicated to the research of sounds Disco Funk from its origins revisited by today's
