Don't be fooled by Spellacey's lower profle: amongst those who know, the Melbourne-based New Zealander is widely regarded as a seriously dusty fngered digger, capable of unearthing and championing ridiculously good records from all four corners of the globe. He sells some of these exceptional fnds through his Crown Ruler online store, though there are many more that he keeps hidden from the public.From synth-laden Zambian reggae and sumptuous orchestral Afro-soul, to humid Trinidadian boogie and horizontal Italian jazz-funk, Spellacey offers a whirlwind trip through the most kaleidoscopic and exotic parts of his epic collection.
As you'd expect from a man who has traveled the world hunting down records, the majority of the 15 tracks will be unknown to all but a handful of similarly minded crate diggers. In fact, some are so obscure that you'll struggle to fnd any mention of them at all online. This could be your only chance to own the boogie-era reggae-disco brilliance of Le Banda De Martin's Mi Dueno' and the tear-jerking Afro-soul shuffe of Kosmik 3's I'm Gonna Pack' (here featured in exclusive Jeremy Spellacey re-edit form).
Spacetalk Records' frst compilation, Beauty, offered listeners the chance to take a trip through the record collection of noted Parisian crate-digger and DJ Jeremy Underground. It was a runaway success, so the label has decided to repeat the
exercise. This time, though, they've turned to a lesser-known hunter of rare and obscure records, namely Crown Ruler Records co-founder Jeremy Spellacey.
Spellacey has previously shied away from sharing the secrets of his extensive record collection. Crown Ruler Sound, then, is a rare treat: a gloriously colourful, sun-baked compilation of tropical treats from Africa, the Caribbean and beyond, hand-picked by the man who helped license this year's most essential reissue, the South African boogie brilliance that is Focus's Zulu.

Highlights come thick and fast, from the frst note to the last. Check, for example, the wild P-funk of Acayouman's Funk Around', the dancing marimbas and undulating grooves of Feladey's Forest Music' and the impeccable South African jazz-funk of Stimela's sought-after 1983 debut single, I Love You'.
Other notable highlights include Ezy & Isaac's spellbinding 1977 cut Let Your Body Move (Oba Balu Balu)', seemingly the missing link between Rotary Connection, Fela Kuta and soundscape disco, Devon Russell's inspired reggae-soul cover of Curtis Mayfeld's Move on Up', and Mike Fabulous' Wang East', a
sublime chunk of summery electro-reggae from Spellacey's native New Zealand.

We could go on, but we don't want to spoil all the surprises. Suffce to say, Crown Ruler Sound will surprise and entertain you in equal measure.

Most famous for his Remix of Stevie Wonder "Signed Sealed Delivered", Smash Hunter aka 'DJ Smash' was released on the Mowtown Remixed project, alongside such heavyweight bedfellows as DJ Spinna, Jazzy Jeff and King Britt. Smash was also prolific compiler, producer and label boss for the acclaimed Fat Jazzy Grooves series on New Breed Jazz.

Toy Tonics' MUSHROOM HOUSE series brings together different shades of afro-weirdo-psychedelic vibes in dance music. All tracks have been made exclusively for Toy Tonics. The musical range is wide: The third EP goes from Arabic guitars to Nubian chants and looots of percussions. The bass drum is four-on-the-floor, but switches from midtempo (Kiwi: We are here) to classic New York LoFi -Disco grooves (Ponty Mython). The other 2 tracks on the EP feature an emptier vibe: Less toms - more Drum machines. More Techno. Red Axes deliever probably one of their weirdest works. Their Munk rework is pure craziness. The melodies come from another space. The last track on the EP is made by old Toy Tonics friends from Milano: The Barking Dogs. They teamed up with Tom Trago in the basement studio of the great record store they run in Milan: Serendeepity Records. They are known for selling obscure, but classy music for dance floors and that's what they do when the make music on their own. Like on "Your High": An obscure groove meets a sloppy bassline and stoned vocals.

XOA is an exciting new project fusing sounds from the golden era of 70s Afrobeat with contemporary electronica and modern production.The debut release AIYE LE, features the vocals of former Fela Kuti musical director and afrobeat royalty Dele Sosimi. Label boss Dan Shake steps up for the remix on the B side, bringing his signature Detroit house aesthetic.

If you read interviews with Stuart Leath, you'll probably be aware of the amount of work he was put into tracking down Trinidadian husband-and-wife team Carl and Carol Jacobs. Some 24 months later, the fruits of his efforts have materialized in this superb reissue of their obscure (and ludicrously hard to find) 1986 electro-calypso gem "Robot Jam". It's one of those records that shouldn't work - it's effectively a fusion of replayed and re-sung bits from records by Santana, Rock Master Scott and Rappin' Duke - but still sounds brilliantly futuristic nearly 30 years after its' initial release. The two-part original is joined on the flip by a brilliantly fitting, echo-laden "re-rub" from Nick The Record and Dan Tyler, better known as one half of the Idjut Boys.

The man known as DJ Nature holds a long and illustrious list of releases that spans all the way back to the early 90s, when, as Nature Boy, the Bristol born DJ and producer was carving out sample heavy house music for labels like Ruff Disco Records and the Underworld affiliated Tomato label.
His relatively modern re-incarnation, as DJ Nature, has seen singles and two albums come correct on revered labels like Golf Channel Recordings and Jazzy Sport.
Following on from Futureboogie's landmark 50th release, DJ Nature drops a heavyweight four track EP on the Bristol label, each track promising and delivering Summertime vibes in abundance.
'Born Lifted', with its deft guitar licks and soulful vocal chops over lazy, hazy beats, is a great example of the Nature aesthetics that make his tracks so very popular across the house fraternity. 'My Life' picks up the pace, deploying granite hard snares and cosmic chords with dusted vocal samples.
On the flip, 'What It Isn't' packs some jazz chops with its sampled pianos and saxophone riffs over a discordant beat that swings with the best of them, whilst EP closer 'Loving U More' again serves up some delicious summertime grooves with the perfect marriage of deep, funky bass and seductive samples.

Originally released on the V.A. Quintessentials 50 and making rather big waves, 'Grooff Machine' from Ponty Mython gets the remix treatment for some more dope grooffs! Chicago hotshot Chrissy (The nite owl diner, Classic, Razor n' Tape) puts enough Disco and Acid in it and offers a great clubby alltime classic. Ponty himself fuses lost of House, Disco, Funk and 808 busines so that you can grooff to the max. And our mexican buddy Soul of Hex (Vicario Ltd, Freerange) keeps it dark and loopy before adding some splendid riffs. Time for the Grooff Machine!

London-based DJ HAAi has released her latest single, 'Be Good' on her own label, Coconut Beats. Best known for her Saturday night residency at London club Phonox, HAAi has gained widespread recognition thanks to her vibrant sets and eclectic mixes.
'Be Good' echoes HAAi's former work as lead singer and guitarist of Australian psych-rock band The Dark Bells; the new song features all her own vocals, making the track an entirely organic and self-produced HAAi release.
HAAi's wistful vocals are contrasted against driving drums, rattling percussion and dark synth chords for a stirring yet understated anthem that reflects HAAi's tastes for the ' bassy, textured and percussive'. An accomplished production, this is still only HAAi's second release under her electronic moniker following on from her 2 track 'DaDaDa' EP.
The release comes in the midst of HAAi's busiest summer yet as a DJ. It comes shortly after her much-anticipated headline back to back set at Sunfall Festival with The Black Madonna, an appearance at Pikes Ibiza alongside Midland and ahead of her gig at the tastemaking Oasis Festival in Morocco. This is all on top of her residency at Phonox, where she has become not only a resident but a curator of her own forward-thinking Coconut Beats nights, where friends including Daniel Avery, Chaos in the CBD, Moscoman and Auntie Flo have joined her at the decks. 'I just want to keep people excited and dancing,' she says. It's a simple and honest mission, but one that HAAi completes effortlessly each and every time.

'Don't stop' has long been a favourite with the diggers with it's sweet vocals, synth heavy production and overall cosmic vibe. A beauty of a track indeed and one of TK's lesser known cuts. Side B sees fusion guitarist John Tropea's 1979 cosmic classic 'Living in the jungle', a long time spin of DJ's like Daniele Baldelli and DJ Harvey. Infusing Tropea's rock sensibilities with the throb of the Disco dance-floor the track is a low slung, midtempo groover that touches all the right spots. Overall, this essential double-header is a must have for all Disco heads and left-field DJ fiends.

With early support from the likes of Ben UFO, Jackmaster and Damian Lazarus (who recently opened his Sonar set with Tumbi) we anticipate it being a BIG release throughout the festival season.

We've waited really too long to release this ep. These tracks were given to Musique Risquée more than 10 years ago and waited since then on harddrive before they got rediscovered on a boozy night in Tokyo. They have not aged a bit, fresh as when they were given to us. Maybe we weren't ready then. But we are now and hopefully you are too.

After a busy eighteen months promoting his debut album, Essex-hailer Max Chapman brings us his La Fiesta EP on Hot Creations. The title track features alongside remixes by the versatile Luca Cazal and house veteran Todd Terry.

With Latin vibes from the outset, Max has encompassed the essence of The White Isle. La Fiesta is a migration of percussion, chanting and melodic vocals and flirtatious basslines. 'Music For Dreams - The Sunset Sessions #2' is a 50-track album compiled by esteemed Balearic, ambient and techno DJ/producer Kenneth Bager (aka Dr Baker), also head of the Music For Dreams imprint, plus promoter of Coma Club and Apple Flower Festival in Denmark. Kenneth has used his wealth of experience and knowledge to pull together an top eclectic selection of revered names such as Dusty Springfield, Roisin Murphy, Javier Bergia, Hollie Cook, Todd Terje, Nils Frahm, Faze Action and Jan Akkerman alongside recent Balearic favourites such as Mop Mop, Baby Alpaca and Habibeats.
This vinyl sampler features a sneak preview of what we can expect from the compilation with a choice of quality Balearic gems including brand new unreleased track by Lucci Capri 'Kilimanjaro' full of jazzy/African Balearic vibes, plus Mop Mop's chilled steel drum heaven and the Turbotito remix of Baby Alpaca bringing back memories of the Boys Own era. From Naples in Italy comes the smooth and beautiful Solo Un Delay produced and sung by Tuccinelli, then we have the poppier Emil Germ sounding almost like a cross between Royksopp and Arthur Russell. Finally The Kenneth Bager Experience delivers a dubby, melodic electronic excursion with live drums with a distinctly tropical feel.

Lovefingers heard The Atmospherian years ago on Milk Beach Settlers, a promo-only mix CD comprised solely of Australian artists, mixed and released by seminal Melbourne DJ duo and good friends Hey Convict! (Tamas Jones & Jason Evans). Tamas explained that Warp Factor 9 was a one-off project by John and Russell Kilby of esoteric post-rock bands The Crystal Set and Bhagavad Guitars respectively, and who are brothers of Steve Kilby (frontman of The Church, a prolific Australian band we've adored since adolescence). We had an immediate epiphany and this project was set into motion.

Tamas, now living in Sydney and working with Melbourne producer Harmon under the name Carpentaria, sought out the Kilbys in an attempt to collaborate and license The Atmospherian which originally appeared on their self-released 1993 album Five Days In A Photon Belt. The idea was to unearth this lost cosmic noodle and repackage it with a couple contemporary remixes by the ESP's Australian family members but, as is often the case, there were no usable multitrack tapes in existence. This wouldn't be Tamas' first time at the rodeo however, it was the same situation with Hey Convict!'s collaboration with Dominik Von Senger entitled No Name 2009, on Golf Channel Recordings. Being limited to a single stereo mix and no remix stems to play with, Carpentaria had to edit linearly and replay certain elements from scratch along with some re-recorded vocals from John. During this process, Tamas and Paul generated elements that would subsequently be used for a remix by fellow Aussie producer and prodigy Tornado Wallace.
Now finally, after three years of obstacles, the ESP Institute is proud to announce this beautiful release, The Atmospherian — a celebration of a lost tune that originated, was re-discovered and re-imagined down under, but sits far left of center.

Ewan Jansen joins the Butter Sessions crew with five unique tracks spanning Deep House cuts to Electronic Jazz, recorded in Perth, Australia between 2002 and 2016.

On the A side, Ewan offers up two memorable and moody gems 'Credo' and 'Harbinger' that are just as effective on the dance floor as they are in your lounge room!

The B side sees something more obscure brewing, kicked off by 'Blueprint' a Balearic Compu-funked tune that makes you wish it lasted for hours, followed up by the timeless piece of Jazz infused Ambience 'On The Beach'.
The tail end of the EP leaves us with 'Erewhon' an oddball jazz tinged house jam of incomparable qualities!

Kicking off in February 2015, Hilton, Rob Garza and their DC-based live rhythm section settled into the deep part of Jamaica Port Antonio and began recording in Geejam Studios. "People couldn't believe Robbie Myers, our guitarist, wasn't Jamaican," laughs Hilton. "I think they're used to people coming down from London or LA to record rock and pop records, and they were thrilled that we had such a handle on their sound. It felt like the respect was mutual. It was beyond gratifying. High Grade ganja and bottles of Appleton rum started to show up on the reg."Rife with inspired sounds of the island, The Temple of I & I kicks off with "Thief Rockers", easing the listener into a reverb-heavy tropical sway that introduces Kingston-newcomer, vocalist Racquel Jones. "I met her on my first trip to Port Antonio and she played some demos at Geejam. She had actually used Thievery Corporation as her demo backing track, and it was a perfect match when I heard it. We've been waiting years to find a conscious, brilliant, female Jamaican singer and MC. As a model and former Miss Jamaica contestant, you'd never expect the pure lyrical fire and tough delivery could come out of her. It's impressive," explains Hilton.

Permanent Vacation returns with the fourth instalment of, well, Permanent Vacation. The longest on going compilation series of the label (the first volume also marked the very first release of pv) is dedicated to the more beachy side of the dancefloor. But no need to stress the B word, the C word or even the big D. Blissed out vintage modernism from around the universe. 12 exclusive tracks by old heroes and new stars for eternity. Although not a band in a traditional sense of the word, this record was created by a rotating ensemble of players: for a brief moment, musicians from different backgrounds (in this iteration: Preslav, Kenny Peagler, Waajeed, Joe DeFazio and Phil Boyd) became a band and then went their separate ways.

Play It Say It welcome Jasper James, one of the hottest artists of the day, for their next EP, calling upon Rob Mello to serve up some of his legendary No Ears remixes to seal the deal on this fine package.

Glaswegian DJ/producer Jasper James has been on the scene for a number of years now. He has released on labels like Leftroom and Optimo Trax with his well-informed house sound joins the dots between the past, present and future, the original he offers here is another essential offering from the in-demand star.

The brilliant, instantly party-starting 'Dirty Wrong' is a dirty disco-house tune with a tightly coiled bass riff that rolls on and on. The percussion is loose and playful and more trilling guitar riffs all help colour the groove as it builds and builds. After a steamy, drawn out and intense opening crescendo the thing finally drops and will send crowds wild with its firing vocals, explosive synths and authentic old school feel.

Rob Mello has put out his iconic mixes and originals mainly on labels like Classic, and years later they still sound as good as the day they were released. First up here, his fine No Ears remix is a wild style jam with flailing hits and funky synths all underpinned by big rubbery drums. It's more direct than the original but is just as heart warming and human in its party vibe. A clever use of filters cuts out then drops in various elements for even more liveliness on the 'floor.

His equally effective No Ears Dub is more deep and stripped back, with cosmic keys and well-crafted bass swagger all making this one ripe for intimate dancefloors. Some classic vocal samples only stoke the thing further, and as with all Mello mixes, this one is another classic.There is a timeless nature to this package that is sure to make it one of the biggest releases of not just this summer, but many summers to come.

The ambivalent, Hebrew word "BAAL" is a hint to the spiritual background of the two Munich artists Matthias Dräxler and Matthias Schüll. The direct translation of "BAAL" is "Lord". The term is used to address God in the Bible but can also refer to false gods or demons. It is up to the listener whether they want to focus on the dark power of the devil or the epic glory of God in the music of BAAL.

Following on from his return to dance orientated music on Neroli records with the lush and endearing 'Music for The Golden Age', multi album artist Lars Bartkuhn (Sonar Collective & Needs) brings contrasting sides of his musical character for Alex Bradley's burgeoning Utopia Records, touching on Detroit, Jazz Fusion and Ambient. Tokyo Burning is a youthful and stripped back electronic club track harking back to the Detroit house heyday of Galaxy to Galaxy and Happy Records but with a modernist approach and Bartkuhn's unique musicality for what has all the hallmarks of a peak-time club classic.In contrast title track Nomad brings the full spectrum of Bartkuhn's musical range with a more organic and rhythmic dance composition.
A fusion of afro percussion, his own emotive vocal hook, melodic keys, joyful flute playing, bound together with the guitar playing that has had many compare Bartkuhn to the likes of Jazz master Pat Metheny. The track builds into a breakdown that is perhaps best described by Anthony Nicholson as; 'a combination of truth, inspiration and cosmic energy'.
Rounding out the EP a gentle acoustic reprise, a deeper introspective piece for ambient music lovers.

Having delighted dancefloors around the world with his infectious discoid funk of 'Baby I'm Yours' and 'Fantasy', and killer re-rubs for Justice and Metronomy amongst others, 'One Out Of Two' is the first single to be taken from this multi-instrumentalist's highly anticipated debut album 'By Your Side'. Crammed with soulful, robo-disco and emotive ballads, 'By Your Side' conjures up the ghosts of the Doobie Brothers, Todd Rundgren and Hall and Oates, as well as the nostalgic TV themes to 'Silver Spoons' or 'Punky Brewster'. Berland explains : 'My elder brothers had a huge influence on me when was I a kid. David the oldest introduced me to soul, funk and pop, making me tapes of michael jackson, prince, stevie wonder, madonna, phil collins and many other things.
