Toy Tonics' main men Rhode & Brown come back with a new EP full of their very special, funk influenced, analogue sounding dance tracks. The two guys are part of that new, growing German scene of producers that are interested in the more jazz and analogue orientated and weird side of house music. As their label Toy Tonics is. Rhode & Brown's new Snabsnus EP shows a great range of their musical inspirations: funky acid basslines, hazy breakbeats, rare soul-samples - and this very special nasty atmosphere that is becoming their trademark sound. Aus Music follow up a string of releases from Shenoda, Recloose and Marquis Hawkes with a Disco-tinged 12' courtesy of a fresh signee and Millionhands head honcho Tee Mango. Having so far almost exclusively released on Millionhands alone, Tee Mango makes a rare appearance outside of his home turf and in doing so follows on from his acclaimed 'Imperfections Vol.1' LP which garnered widespread following from the likes of Axel Boman, Palms Trax, Gilles Peterson and Bonobo. His EP#1 for Aus carries forth the sense of raw, sample heavy soul that was the real spark of Imperfections Vol.1, while maintaining a feel for the needs of the dancefloor. Five hundred and seventy-three moons ago (give or take), Thunder Tillman and his personal shaman emerged from the ESP Institute with an epic debut EP of baked psychedelics entitled Jaguar Mirror. We now bare witness to the duo's glorious follow-up as they initiate us into the Night School Of Universal Wisdom. These two cosmic jokers possess a vibrant and fearless sense of exploration that knows no boundaries, as if their dreams translate directly into song and their bodies exist merely to channel music they've tapped into from another world, one where influences are uncharted and any instrument imaginable is available at their fingertips. As with Jaguar Mirror, their grasp of all things analogue begins with guitar laying the slightly imperfect foundation for four harmonious narratives, a journey that begins with a fast paced gallop across vast landscapes in search of the Incan god of thunder, Catequil, and gently concludes with us lying horizontally to absorb sporadic beams of healing light. The discourse throughout Night School Of Universal Wisdom is as charming as it is exquisite, orienting the listener with a bouquet of warm tones whilst layering plies of musical dialogue so subtle they require repeated study. Thunder Tillman manage to weave the past into future without diverting to pastiche, successfully merging their characterized production with melodic mastery and a sense of humor, a creative achievement that accredits them as two of our most esteemed scholars.

It´s quite some years after Starburst , the first record on Internasjonal the japanese duo Traks Boys, consisting of Kawasaki based producers and Djs Crystal and K404 did for us. But a short 7 Years down the road the magic is still there. "Be With you" and "Weekend Lights" are mesmerizing, sparkling with creativity and beauty. "Be With you" is modern disco cut up of the finest while Weekend Lights is a hypnotic stringinfected warm groover that we can´t get enough of. Finally Weekend (Light) Lover and Friend of the House Axel Boman takes it all home in the biggest of ways.
Reduced with care and then build up again to one the neatest breaks that we heard this year.

Having already earned his Balearic stripes some time ago, as one of the resident DJs at We Love.... At Space in Ibiza, Ian Blevins has since relocated to Berlin, and has been immersing himself in the esoteric vibes of the city. On the strength of his latest EP on Futureboogie, this is clearly a good thing, as the 'Round Trip' EP is laden with the deep magical vibes that have also shaped his recent releases on labels like Banoffe Pies, Not An Animal Records, Blind Jacks Journey and ESP Institute. On 'Round Trip', an abundance of driving, arpeggiated synthesizers weave around sparse yet sturdy drumbeats, as thick pads rise and fall in dramatic fashion. Panthera Krause (Permanent acation/Riotvan/Lobster Theremin) is on board for the remix of 'Round Trip', re-shaping the original into a merry, space organ led, tribal dance; with a splash of garage house vibes that soon become immersed in its own synth heaven, it's a cracking remix from the Leipzig based producer. On 'Roland's Rat', Blevins keeps things tight with soaring strings, organ stabs a strolling bassline for a quality jam, whilst 'Can You Count My Dream' is a dense, and cinematic slab of transcendental dance, an almost claustrophobic atmosphere only intensifies the drama and delivers the heat that seals this superb EP from Blevins.

All that changed when Morrison received an email from Spacetalk Records two years ago, asking about the possibility of reissuing 'To See One Eagle Fly', the B-side to one of their 7' singles that has long been a favourite of label co-founder Danny McLewin. Once a deal had been done, Morrison mentioned that he had hours of unissued recordings in his loft; a treasure trove of ultra-rare multi-track master tapes that could be freshly mixed and mastered for release. When the Spacetalk Records' team finally got a chance to listen, they were astonished by the timeless quality of the songs. Put simply, they just had to be released.

The resultant album is a stunning set: an intoxicating glimpse into the world of two previously unheralded master songwriters whose musical vision encapsulates all that was good about Californian music during the late '60s and early '70s. Rooted in the American folk revival and folk-rock movement of the late '60s, the album's 15 thoughtful, heartfelt songs are laden with sly nods to the likes of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Ned Doheny, Michael Deacon, Cy Timmons, Gene Clark and Buffalo Springfield. The tracks were recorded at various times between 1970 and '82 and gives a small glimpse of the duo's total body of unissued work. The release comes with extensive liner notes telling the remarkable story of two lifelong friends and musical collaborators who thought their moment had passed.

A long-term legend of the Detroit scene, Rick Wade is presenting three deep and organic house cuts on Moody Records, written with the soul and finesse that has gained him the reputation as one of the most influential deep house producers. Liem & Eddie Ness infuse their Hamburg-House sound with the remix to Insensitive, while San Proper treats us with a suprise remix which is digitally available through the link etched to the record. Alma Negra is a Swiss collective that consists of four musically driven friends, the Figuiera Brothers Dersu & Diego whose roots are established firmly in their Cape Verdian heritage, Dario with his half and half Portuguese/Italian mix and finally Mario with Spanish roots.They are all passionate diggers who love playing music from all over the world, something that's evident in their productions as well. Encompassing Jazz, African and Latin sounds to Soul, funk, Disco, House and even Techno. As far as inspiration goes they mention Donald Byrd, Fela Kuti and Theo Parrish.

French producer Jules Etienne reappears with a 3 track EP including a Jex Opolis remix on Barcelona's finest disco imprint Apersonal Music. Jules shows his most elaborated work to date evolving to a more band oriented production filled with plenty of live instruments and vocals as seen on "Free as a man" and "Dont want to talk about it". On the B side "Rhythm for the garden part I" is a mad ride driven by live percussions and a drum machine. Canadian producer Jex Opolis whos been releasing top stuff through his own Good Timin' label comes on board on the release remixing "Free as a man". Guilty pleasures all around.

A true Balearic classic. One of a handful of records that can comfortably boast this title, Elkin & Nelson's 1979 classic 'Jibaro' sits in the canon of selections that enlightened the ears of the jet-set and globe trotting music fanatics in the heady and much storied years of the White isle in the 1980's. The Colombian brothers Javier and Leon Marin Velez brought their own rustic brand of folksy-Rock-Psychedelia to the listening public in 1974 with their debut LP 'Angeles Y Demonios' on Columbia records. The brothers had relocated to Spain, snared a major label deal and ran with it. The first of 3 LP's it proved a big hit in later years with adventurous DJ's and selectors. A cult record you might say. Of course, this LP featured 'Jibaro' in all it's forms, but it is this 1986 reissue 12" promo pressing with it's iconic, distinctive jacket that was the coveted slab sonic adventurers were seeking. Fully sanctioned and legitimately remastered from the original sources and packaged in it's original Columbia promo sleeve 'Jibaro' is back on the shelves, still an incredible record that gets pulled by the most discerning selectors across the globe. A true classic, featured here in it's long and short versions as per the '86 release. Absolute top-shelf stuff here, essential, must own and classic.

The band's only ever record, originally released in June 1985 in a small pressing quantity of just five-hundred copies, 'Reggae Down' has been a staple semi-unknown weapon for various well-known selector DJs across the globe, and we feel that it is now perfect time to share this gem with you as well. The A side is perfect for moving the dancefloor into next gear, whilst 'Smile On Your Face' is a joyous reggae track designed for the more chilled occasion.

Queen and house music: not necessarily the most obvious of bedfellows, but Music For Freaks has never been a label to take the path most travelled. Over the course of their de-cades long journey the label founded by Luke Solomon and Justin Harris has released uni-quely idiosyncratic dance music, establishing the label as a go-to imprint for those seeking imaginative, unpredictable records that still undeniably work on the dancefloor. Their latest release might well be among the most out-there of them all. Originally released back in 1984, 'Two Sharp Pencils (Get Bad)' is a record by Queen drum-mer Roger Taylor, featuring him on vocals as well as drums, bass & guitar. Now brought bang up to date via a fully official and endorsed remix courtesy of Anna Wall & Corbi, this overlooked album track looks set to become one of the summer's most essential records. Born and bred in the UK, Anna Wall is a DJ, producer and label owner who is a key player in London's underground house music scene. Her label The Bricks champions up-and-coming producers, while Anna herself has DJ'd all over the world, most recently for Mixmag at Pacha for their IMS launch party. Corbi is an Ibiza-based DJ and producer, A&R for the highly respected FINA Records and co-founder of Melon Bomb, a party and DJ collective that has in the space of just a couple of years become one of the White Isle's most talked-about exports. Having met while working at house giant Defected Records some years ago, Anna felt that Corbi would be the perfect studio accomplice to work on the remix of 'Two Sharp Pencils'.
