PRESCRIPTION PRICING AUTHORITY - SONG FOR YOU / GREEN MACHINE

The PPA duo outta London is back with another burning hot 7inch on GAMM. Just like on the first 7" they go for two rare Jazz-funk tracks where they not only rework the originals but also add their own instrumentation on top. Song For You (by Popcorn) got a real nice boogie funk feel and sounds like an early 80's production from the UK even though its actually a rare Florida production. Green Machine is Jazz-funk original by O'Donel Levy but now re-tweaked and with vintage clavinet and percussion added over the original track. Another PPA home run !!

Angelo Ioakimoglu - The Nireus Years (1995-1997)

Into the Light continues its journey to unearth and update overlooked Greek music. This time focuses on a smooth, warm, youthful yet intelligent work that finds effortlessly its place in the tiny Greek electronic scene of the mid 90's.
.
"The Nireus Years" is a rare selection of eight unheard home recordings produced between 1995 and 1997 by the then 16-year old Angelo Ioakimoglu in Athens. The album encompasses his most special productions ranging from bucolic new age to dubbed out midi electronics, jazzy r&b to Mediterranean ambient trance!

Angelo was born and raised in Zografou area of Greece's capital in 1981. It was there where his father had a typical 80's electronic lab and it was that specific environment where Angelo spent most of early childhood. A first attraction for electronic musical equipment was developed that very soon became a passion for hunting down used pieces of gear soon to form the basis of his well equipped bedroom setup.

During his teens, his connection with music was either practicing the piano at home or listening to the most recent dance hits at his uncle's place who happened to be a professional DJ. Big part of Angelo's demos around that period is driven by those two aforementioned worlds. But there were moments of escape. Moments where the music went for the unexpected. Leaving the producer following a solitary path where he could express his teenage dreams and fantasies...through extensive midi programming, live keyboards mimicking string, brass and steel instruments and sampled portions of his live percussion burst.

Angelo's work, which can sometimes seem naive or surrealistic, is supported by his unique and surprisingly energetic approach, one that gives us the courage to continue something different.

Fiero - Modus Operandi Ep

To some of you, Fiero will need no introduction, the Colombian via New York analog synth wizard has released some of the most highly sought after proper disco music this side of 1978. Here is his first time on Giallo Disco, with his darkest compositions yet. Hot flanged pads, detuned basslines, 606 madness, space choirs, it's all here. Imagine if Goblin and / or Stefano Mainetti did a New Beat tribute to Carpenter and you'd be getting warm. You've fallen, it's rising from the swamp, and you can't get away... Amazing!! Maricopa - Pastel Love Part One

We're very happy to welcome aboard new imprint Back To The Balearics

It's a label on a mission to uncover music with significance, special sounds that can make a moment out of nothing.
In an increasingly fast and disposable world the need for such moments is more important than ever.

The first release, by Belfast's MARICOPA, perfectly defines that sound. His electronic tracks blend naïve beauty with emotional depth in a sonic landscape devoid of all the usual musical clichés of dance music.
Back To The Balearics is a journey to nowhere in particular with plenty of musical stop overs on the way.

We hope you will take the trip...

Permanent Vacation
03.04.2018

Brazilian born producer and self-confessed 'studio freak' TERR will be making her debut with 'Have You Ever' on Permanent Vacation this March. She found recognition with her creative, quirky electronica productions, said to be heavily influenced by her use of analog gear, her sound is a combination of techno, house and disco with futuristic textures and elements. Throwback disco meets techno, alongside a scintillating synth in 'Have Your Ever', not forgetting the mesmerising robotic female vocal hook. A thunderous kick drum bass line combo takes the dub version into a more late-night dance edit of the original. Hauntingly cinematic with its hook line, 'Memoir' hints on some intergalactic synthetic inspiration, which builds into a nearly disco-esque breakdown. This track lends well to roll into 'Twenty Thousand Leagues' - metallic and bubbling with its multi-layered textures. Its delicate and finely tuned.

Les Yeux Orange - Togosava 12"

Allez les presales! Everybody's favourite Parisian party fiends are back, polishing up another batch of patchy pound bin finds and not-on-Discogs delights for your next summer soirée. Putting their orange-eagle eyes to good use, the LYO crew have trawled the crates of Europe and beyond for this sunkissed set, working the scalpel to the max to pack the dancefloor in arms aloft ecstasy. Our party starts with the kwaito groove of 'Avidiyo'', a killer bit of late 80's Afro-action boasting synth marimba, alien bass blasts and life affirming vocal chants. Not only is this cut moving in the ants-in-your-pants/dancing-like-a-madman sense, but its Sting-on-safari emotion and clarinet solo could bring a tear to a glass eye. Cartwheeling between aspirational jazz-funk and afro-cosmic, 'Yanga Mbiwaa' makes its way to the heart of the party like a bewildered Parisian at an Ivorian wedding. As tumbling toms rumble like thunder on the Serengeti, an oddball exotica chant encourages the nearby wildlife to shake a tail-feather to the Club Tropicana guitars and buzzing synthbass. At last you have something to keep Quantum Jump's 'Lone Ranger' company! Last but not least comes 'Autoradio', a very well mannered monsieur living the French highlife by the sea and sun of the Mediterranean coast. Effervescent Afrobeat guitars and swooning sax dance over a rolling rhythm section of buoyant bass and 80s percussion, while a spoken vocal drawls in your direction and the girls ask if you're ok. It's only when the pinging, ringing, madly modulated bass breakdown bounds through your surroundings that you'll wonder who slipped what in your drink...

GABE GURNSEY - EYES OVER

Taken from Gabe Gurnsey's upcoming debut solo LP, 'Physical' on Phantasy, 'Eyes Over' zones in on a proto-Hacienda groove that's undistilled militant funk, loose and lucid elements of electro and dub-laden drums conspire to offer an alluring landscape for Gurnsey's restless vocals. The harder-hitting Extended Dub takes more precise aim at the dancefloor, allowing each disparate, analogue element more room to unfold across a throbbing baseline.

Various - Tokyo Nights: Female J Pop Boogie Funk 1981-1988

Following successful disco excavation from the Caribbean to South Africa, Boston-based label Cultures of Soul booked a first class ticket to Narita to bring you the latest release, Tokyo Nights: Female J-Pop Boogie Funk: 1981 to 1988. This compilation presents 12 of the most memorable and sought-after songs of the era recorded by female artists. The music is a reflection of the unbridled optimism, technological achievement, excess and exuberance of Bubble-era Japan. More than catchy melodies and funky baselines, these are reflections of a time when Japan was the center, and futureof the world. The Bubble can be characterized as an endless, extravagant party where personal and corporate wealth soared through the explosion of real estate and stock prices. Scores of young Japanese men and women moved to cities in search of affluence, transforming them into neon wonderlands. Changes in morals, values and gender roles followed suit. Prosperity leads to indulgence, and the taste for nightlife, from flashy restaurants to glitzy discotheques, was unquenchable. A soundtrack to this new, lavish lifestyle was necessary and the latest sound, City Pop (urban pop music for those with urban lifestyles), epitomized these attitudes. While influenced by American R&B and boogie, elements of fusion, YMO style Technopop, and adult-oriented rock (AOR) are front and center. Sung primarily in Japanese (with a word or two of English sprinkled in), City Pop is Japanese music for Japanese people. Producers like Tatsuro Yamashita, Toshiki Kadomatsu, and Haruomi Hosono were quick to embrace the latest studio equipment and technology. Synthesizers like the Yamaha DX7, Roland Juno-60, ARP Quadra, Moog Polymoog and Oberheim OB-8, as well as drum machines like the Linndrum, were prevalent. Digital reverb was applied liberally. Compiled by Eli Cohen (Alliance Upholstery) and Deano Sounds (Cultures of Soul), Tokyo Nights includes tracks by Hitomi Tohyama, Junko Ohashi, Mizuki Koyama, Kaoru Akimoto, Aru Takamura, Mariko Tone, Rie Murakami, RA MU, Kikuchi Momoko and Yumi Seino. Each selection celebrates the unique traits and meticulous production that define the sound. Think sandy beaches and metropolitan skylines, illumination and romance. Embrace the feeling of movement, from a coastal highway stretching towards the horizon or the city sprawling into the future. Turn on the hi-fi and slip into these Tokyo Nights.

Mr. Fingers - Can You Feel It / Washing Machine

There's a reason why so many of house music's early releases have endured over the decades. The best
of them have a quality that defies logic. Early house records like Heard's own "Washing Machine," or
the "No Way Back" by Adonis, still have the power to stun listeners and drive clubs wild. They sound
alien and beautiful, simultaneously ingrained within us and so unlike everything that followed. And
few sound as beautiful, or as alien, as "Can You Feel It."
By 1986, Heard—who was born and bred in Chicago and been playing in bands as a drummer—had already
proved to the world that he was a master of poignant, enthralling house. The previous year's elegant
Mystery of Love,' originally released on Alleviated Records, had featured an insistent ascending
bassline repeating under a plaintive, swooning analog synth, with a gentle, conga-led rhythm setting
the pace. It was soon rerecorded in a slightly more fleshed-out style, this time featuring frequent
collaborator Robert Owens on vocals—'There's a moment in our lives when we all must try the mystery of
love'—and rereleased on D.J. International.
The song helped to set the Larry Heard template: A hollowed-out bass underlies percolating percussion,
while a deceptively spare instrumentation lays out a wistful, yearning melody, all blanketed with
ethereal ambience. But Can You Feel It,' released by Trax Records the next year on an EP that also
boasts the equally dreamy Washing Machine,' took that mold and refined it into exquisite, crystalline
form. As with most house of the era—the components of Can You Feel It' are few. There's a throbbing
kick, tuned so loosely as to make it feel like the head's in danger of falling from the drum, cascading
hi-hats, shivering and shimmering, a three-chord synth pattern that flirts with melancholy, occasional
distant pads and crisp countermelody, and most of all, that angular, acidic low-end. With this track,
along with Washing Machine,' Heard had perfected his signature bass sound: an alien signal, caving in
upon itself, that's simultaneously soothing and a little bit disconcerting. In 1986, it seemed like a
beacon from the farthest reaches of the galaxy, even today, it's one of the most identifiable tones in
electronic music.
Heard himself has claimed to have little distinct memory of making Can You Feel It,' saying it was
merely the result of fooling around with some newly acquired gear. But apparently, Can You Feel It'
was first laid down on tape in 1984, the same session yielded a much slower, 110-BPM prototype of
Mystery of Love.' Roland's Juno-60 polyphonic synthesizer provided the bass and melody, while the
drums were courtesy of a TR-909. A friend came up with the song's title, Heard has admitted in
interviews that he's not adept at naming his own work. The track ended up in the hands of the
influential Chicago DJs of the era—Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy, et al—and eventually made its way to
Trax Records' Vince Lawrence. A few years later, alternate versions of Can You Feel It' surfaced, many
of these with Vocals Samples that detracted from something that was already graceful and full of
feeling. And really, how could anything improve upon the transcendent '86 Trax release, a song that
feels like a blissful caress

Tyv - Miau! Ep (lauer Remix)

As felines usually do, TYV's latest effort and Gop Tun's fourth enterprise purrs and prances along with elegance and nonchalance. From the first elements of percussion up until the last trace of reverbed and delayed textures leave the speakers finally at rest, Miau engulfs its listeners in a powerful stream of melodic strength and rhythmic intensity. Not surprisingly all of this mojo relies heavily on very typical chromatic nuances, familiar to anyone who's acquainted with Brasil's rich musical diversity and solid foundations.

Miau is a ritualistic utterance, an onomatopoeic journey that takes us deep into an utopic place where innocence is untainted and our best memories are left untouched, but never forgotten. Features that are somehow enhanced in Tuff City Kid's own Lauer's version, which is Idyllic in its pads and entrancing in its beats, but still elegantly nostalgic in its feel.
Da Terra maintains the festive atmosphere and heats up the oven a tad more. Some earthly delights await those willing to cross the dense layering of percussive vegetation and arrive at a beautiful glade where the main hook meets the strings and chants that conjure a particular vibe of uplifiting melancholia.
This is a feast for your senses, guaranteed to overload your neurotransmitters just like our native meals.

In:state & Guili - Vizitoz

New to the NAAR stable, In:State & Giuli make their debut in stunning style.Visitoz is a straight forward techno affair, as bumping as it is surprising. Using a deceptively simple gated arp and horn to dazzlingly complex effect. The track is potentially the most peak time NAAR has gone yet, and it's an incredibly welcome addition to their canon. On remix duty Lauer takes a hold of the main arpeggio and turns it monstrous in the style of Liasions Dangeruese, yet balances this with his trademark lightness of touch and his ear for a heart wrenching synth line, creating an instant classic that feels like it was beamed straight in from 1986. "Plus 1" has been sent from a parallel dimension where the evolution of music took a turn so different that Proto Garage stands where Proto House should be. The track has the step and swagger of the most compelling end of the 2 step movement, but balances that with the surprising naivete and earnestness found in Italo, EBM and early forays from Chicago. Finishing things off, Lizards return to the label for a welcome encore following last years success with their 1st release,Tanni.
